Escaped Mental Patient stars in IVAW/VoteVets

Greatest VIDEO EVEH. You’ll notice one of the Lieutenant Colonel’s supporters has a banner across his chest that says “Three Tours - Iraq” - that man is an escaped mental patient and, until yesterday, a powerhouse in the IVAW and Vote Vets, yet he’s never served a day in the Marines, as he has claimed:

How many of you remember this post

So, it came as no surprise today that I found one of the recommended diaries is by a guy named Rick Duncan, a wounded Marine Captain who served in Iraq. Now, I salute his service, as we all do, but this guy has been on my radar for quite a while for his deft (?) acrobatics on issues. For starters, it should come as no surprise that in addition to being a VoteVets guy, he’s also a member of IVAW…

Well, I hereby take back that salute, and to my IVAW and VOTEVETS friends I once again ask, tell me how my ass tastes.

The leader of a statewide veterans group who fought for homeless veterans in Colorado Springs is in jail in Denver today, unmasked as a former mental patient who posed as a wounded Marine officer and 9/11 survivor.

The man who called himself Rick Duncan - purportedly a former Marine captain and 1997 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy - is in fact 31-year-old Richard Glen Strandlof, a former mental patient who never served in the military and falsely claimed that he was in the Pentagon during the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, according to David Walsh of the Colorado Veterans Alliance (CVA), which Duncan founded.

Walsh, who joined the board of CVA at Duncan’s request last year, said his colleagues in the organization grew suspicious of Duncan after discovering “significant inconsistencies” in his personal story.

In a search of the Colorado Secretary of State’s Office records, for example, they found that the name Colorado Veterans Alliance had been reserved by “Rick Strandlof,” whom they had never met, Walsh said.

While probing Duncan’s past, Walsh said, the group found evidence that he was a patient in a mental hospital in Washoe County, Nev., at the time of the roadside bombing in Fallujah, Iraq, that Duncan claimed left him severely wounded.

The group contacted the FBI field office in Denver, which began investigating in early May and arrested Duncan Tuesday night in downtown Denver on a traffic warrant originating in El Paso County.

I will be standing in the corner of my bedroom for a while doing the happy dance that YET ANOTHER phony of VoteVets and IVAW has gone down.

Oh, and I have a call in to the guy responsible for the takedown, who as happenstance would have it, I know pretty well. Actually, my best friend is very close to him. Funny how small a world it is.

This is Mr. Duncan/Strandlof’s biography at IVAW;

UPDATE: “Rick Duncan” goes down the memory hole at IVAW. With no notice whatsoever. Well, good thing I have the screen shots, eh guys? The page above now looks like this in 4 hours;

And here is an article he wrote at VoteVets blaming Bush and Cheney for the death of six of his Marines;

Jesse MacBeth 2.0; A former mental patient rises to prominence in the Colorado anti-war movement. And notice that it’s in Denver so I’m pretty sure he had plenty to do with the IVAW theater there last summer at the DNC convention.

How about Congressman Jared Polis cavorting with a mental patient/phony veteran;

And Polis scores the escaped mental patient/phony veteran endorsement;

He may have been crazy, but he knew how to play the press. In fact we’ve been in contact with KKTV out in Colorado who called us about digging more dirt up on him because they have miles of footage of interviews with Duncan and they want to hang him by the balls. He did interviews like this one in the Colorado Springs Gazette;

At this point, I don’t even know where to put updates. So I am putting them here, and will try to make sense of this nonsense tomorrow. But I was just thinking to myself, what this post needs is a connection to Michael Moore and MoveOn.org. OK, check and check.

All of the videos have been removed so we moved them below the fold;

UPDATE: X2: He has a plate…..in his head…..

UPDATE X3: He also coordinated the mental health at Winter Soldier. He is a subject matter expert after all.

UPDATE x4: At :23 seconds, did this turd really fake pictures? At 3:33 we see X-Rays? What the Fug dude?

UPDATE X5: this is the greatest day EVER.

UPDATE X6: Who wants to befriend Rick on Myspace? You can see all the jobs he has held, and how he graduated the naval academy.

UPDATE x7: And this and many of the videos is a huge hat tip to Brown Neck Gaitor who I have been on the phone with literally all night, but….

Did you know that Brave Sir Rick was an openly gay Marine Captain?

Having spent 11 years in the Marine Corps, including three tours in Iraq, I know many gay and lesbian service members who serve with honor and distinction.

As a Captain, I commanded a battalion of Marines and there was no secret that I am gay and the majority of them did not care. I was a good Marine, a good officer and loved my Marines and my country.

This policy of don’t ask and don’t tell wil be remembered as a dark time in our history and I celebrate the day it passes

Sent by Captain Rick Duncan, USMC (Ret.) | 2:19 PM ET | 07-28-200

That reminds me of the time I told the judge that I was a Black Marine in 1969. War does terrible things to you man.

No wait, that was the movie Summer School, my bad.

Hat tip to Mr.Wolf from Blackfive for the article that twigged us to the whole story.

    The group that holds themselves up as THE spokesgroup for disgruntled soldiers/vets has:

    1) Been duped by Jessie McBeth. He of the Stuttering Bttn of the 75th Rangers.
    2) Pushed out true Patriots because they don’t agree with the Socialist bent of the groups that hold the purse strings.
    3) Lied their fourth point of contact off when they have crowed that they were checking the DD-214s of their members.
    4) Been shunned by the Senator at the heart of the original Winter Soldier that they pattern their group after.
    4) Chosen an admitted rapist, a congentital liar and an escaped Mental Patient as their spokesmen?

    It is like a train wreck, but they spike the rails in front of their train themselves.

    I’m not sure about this one. I mean couldn’t attending IVAW meetings sort of be considered an out patient mental health clinic? So if he was just getting treatment wouldn’t everything he did with the IVAW just be considered part of his treatment and therefore not representative of the IVAW, and just part of their outreach to the veteran community in addressing the mental health problems faced by veterans?
    Well all except for that part where he isn’t really a veteran, but I mean it could be real and isn’t that all that counts.

    I think claiming to be a graduate of the Naval Academy should have been a warning sign.

    Look I think we need to consult Claymore for a ruling on this.

    Debbie Clark Says:

    For what it’s worth, there have been a number of former commissioned officers who have at least brushed shoulders with IVAW and shown up at protests and marched with them, and some who have been members, so it is not as though it is a really unusual thing for someone to be in IVAW claiming to be a Naval Academy graduate. I can remember meeting a Naval Academy graduate (former O-3, not an Iraq vet, nor did he claim to be) at the massive Sep. 24, 2005 Washington DC protest, along with several other young former O-3’s that very day, one of whom was a West Point grad who was an Iraq vet. In fact, he traveled to DC from the Atlanta area with the group I traveled with. (I always took him at his word on being a West Point grad though. For all I know, he could have just been an agent of the government collecting information on protesters.) Here he is quoted in a Rolling Stone article that was published subsequent to that protest http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/story/7683877/give_peace_a_chance/ - his name is Justin Gordon, and he is identified in the article. I was very proud of him for that interview and honored to have been the one who hooked him up with the reporter from Rolling Stone. He was extremely disillusioned by that protest, and I did not help matters any by being very bluntly honest with him about the fact that it is predominantly Communists and socialists who are behind the organization of these massive protests, and the veterans are their dog and pony show. He was very angry when he saw the way things are.

    I think it is true there is a lot of sloppiness both in Iraq Veterans Against the War as well as in its parent organization, Veterans For Peace, in verifying backgrounds. Requiring a copy of a DD-214 has its limitations as well since it would not be that hard for someone who knows what they’re doing to fake one. It’s not like VFP Headquarters sends the copies of DD-214’s to a forensic crime lab for anaylsis…

    To me, watching Duncan in the videos, he seems fake and he doesn’t resonate with me, but I already knew he was a fake by the time I watched the videos (which was here on this site), so it’s hard to say what my uninformed impression of him might have been without that foreknowledge. But as I mentioned, it is not unheard of to have a true Naval Academy graduate in contact with IVAW. What I would have questioned more was his statements that as a Marine Corps captain, he was the commander of a battalion. Now I never served in the Marines, but in if I’m not mistaken, I believe a captain in the Marine Corps is an O-3 the same as in the Army (unlike in the Navy, where a captain is an O-5) and, again, I wasn’t in the Marines, but in the Army, at least when I was in, no captain was ever a battalion commander, which would be an O-4 or O-5 while an O-3 would, almost without exception, be commander at company level only. But again, I wasn’t in the Marines so I don’t know if it’s the same (though I would tend to think that it is).

    As far as being a mental patient, that is no doubt why Duncan was able to fit into IVAW, which has never made any secret of being filled with people suffering from all manner of combat stress and mental problems, not to mention widespread drug and alcohol abuse problems, and I don’t say that in mean-spirited criticism of IVAW, but simply as an observation, which they are more than aware of themselves.

    I would be interested to know more about who you think are fake vets in IVAW and/or VFP. While I never made a practice of conducting background investigations of the members (LOL…), I would have to strongly question that. The ones who didn’t serve in Iraq - the ones that I knew anyway - but who are military veterans, never pretended that they were Iraq vets.

    As far as VFP goes, Ward Reilly seems to be the non-combat veteran of choice to kick around, but Ward, who joined the Army (”voluntarily” if I recall correctly) while a draft was going on - a draft for a war that he completely disagreed with - has never pretended to be a combat vet who served in Vietnam.

    As for IVAW, I know they had one other one a few years ago who was a complete fake and to my recollection, they handled that very openly and honestly on their website. I don’t know of any other fake vets in IVAW, other than angry rumors from some of the Iraq vets about one of the other Iraq vets wearing a medal that he didn’t earn. I don’t know if it’s true or not, but I don’t think that particular veteran’s military service in Iraq is of any question.

    Well, I just wanted to provide a little more balance here, where things can sometimes be a little exaggerated. I would think that the truth itself should be more than enough.

    What I find the most interesting, is that this is such a huge surprise to people. Everything I hear out of these scared little sheep’s mouth about what they did or saw overseas seems to be a lie. We first saw their membership lying about what they experienced while in country. Then when they ran out of people to do that, they moved onto lying about even being in country (or being there 6 days). It only makes sense that the next step in the evolutionary chain would be to lie about even being in the military. TSO, Jonn….keep your eyes and ears open, my guess is the next “Vet” they get will be some guy who’s mad we didn’t buy more crap from his store in Krygrystan and starts a video blog about why he hates being in the Air Force.

    by: USMCinCO

    In April of 2006 while on a convoy between Fallujah and Ramadi, the vehicle in which several other Marines and I rode in was hit by an IED. I survived, they did not. In his op-ed piece, Mr. Alexander observed that No. 1 reason foreign fighters flocked there to Iraq were the abuses carried out at Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo. Our policy of torture was directly and swiftly recruiting fighters for al-Qaeda in Iraq.

    I’m starting to think of asking people to “prove” their service (whatever that means - pics, vids, or dd-214’s). I wouldn’t be offended and I don’t think other REAL vets would either.

    This seems like an easy thing to fix except that we don’t want to offend people. Hopefully vets just get over it and take pride in “proving” their service.

His Reserve Command’s reaction upon learning the truth of this via an IG investigation: Promoted him to E-9 based upon the rationale: Well, he did attend the academy. How about the full Colonel in the War College who was caught with two phony Silver Stars he’d entered in his own record while a brigade adjutant in Vietnam? Kerry ‘Flips Off’ Vietnam Vet

    Former Congressman John Leboutillier reports on a Memorial Day confrontation between Sen. John Kerry and a fellow Vietnam veteran:

    Democratic senator - and certain presidential nominee - John F. Kerry gave the middle finger to a Vietnam veteran at the Vietnam Memorial Wall on Memorial Day morning, NewsMax.com has learned.

    Ted Sampley, a former Green Beret who served two full tours in Vietnam, spotted Kerry and his Secret Service detail at about 9:00 a.m. Monday morning at the Wall. Sampley walked up to Kerry, extended his hand and said, “Senator, I am Ted Sampley, the head of Vietnam Veterans Against John Kerry, and I am here to escort you away from the Wall because you do not belong here.”

    At that point a Secret Service officer told Sampley to back away from Kerry. Sampley moved about 6 feet away and opened his jacket to reveal a HANOI JOHN T-shirt.

    Kerry then began talking to a group of schoolchildren. Sampley then showed the T-shirt to the children and said, “Kerry does not belong at the Wall because he betrayed the brave soldiers who fought in Vietnam.”

    Just then Kerry - in front of the school children, other visitors and Secret Service agents - brazenly ‘flashed the bird’ at Sampley and then yelled out to everyone, “Sampley is a felon!”

    Kerry was referring to an incident 12 years ago when Sampley confronted Sen. John McCain’s chief aide, Mark Salter, in a Senate stairwell after McCain repeatedly offended POW families at a Senate POW hearing. Sampley, whose father-in-law at that time was MIA in Laos, followed Salter into the stairwell and, when they emerged, Salter had a bloody lip and a broken nose.

    Sampley’s group, Vietnam Veterans Against John Kerry, has garnered huge national attention and has been featured in the New York Times, the Washington Post and on MSNBC’s “Scarborough Country.” Tens of thousands of Vietnam vets have registered their opposition to Kerry through Sampley’s group.

    Clearly Sampley has gotten under Kerry’s skin once again.

  71. 71
    Eagle II Says:

    another ted sampley story I love..

    And another. Year 1993, Sampley convicted of misdemeanor assault and sentenced to 180 days’ probation for attacking a McCain aide:

    As Reported:

    Vietnam vet, Ted Sampley, who’s part of the effort, also ran a Vietnam Veterans against John Kerry website in 2004. They’ve also been after McCain for a while; they registered the Vietnam Veterans against John McCain website back in 2005.

    Sampley* has quite a history with McCain, going back to the 1980’s, even getting into a fight with McCain’s longtime aide Mark Salter. Here’s an account from a long piece in the Phoenix New Times back in 1999:

    In pertinent Part

    In December 1992, as the Senate hearings were winding down, Sampley was making the rounds in the halls of Congress, handing out copies of his latest periodical, which featured McCain and the Queen of Diamonds on the cover with the headline: “Sen. John McCain: ‘The Manchurian Candidate.’”

    The story condemned McCain for his lack of support on the live POW/MIA issue, and cited the U.S. News article and others as evidence that McCain had collaborated with the enemy and was protecting the Vietnamese for fear of being exposed. The article summarized the senator’s political career, relying on reports from daily newspapers and wire services. It touched on McCain’s role in the Keating Five and his friendship with former Arizona Republic publisher Duke Tully, who had fabricated a military career for himself, only to be exposed in the mid-Eighties.

    Sampley claims he never intended to go into McCain’s office, but when he realized that’s where he was, he tossed a copy to the receptionist, requesting that it be delivered to the senator’s veterans affairs assistant.

    Mark Salter happened to be standing by the front desk. Sampley’s version of what ensued goes like this:

    “He [Salter] said to me, ‘You son of a bitch.’ Those were his words. He said, ‘You low-life bastard.’ . . . The dumbass followed me, yakking at me all the way down the hall. I’m thinking, ‘Why doesn’t this guy go away? I’m leaving.’ I turn to go into the stairway, he followed me in there and for some reason he felt frisky and he punched me in the back of the shoulder–not hard–and that was it. I turned around and I fried him.”

    Salter claims he just tapped Sampley on the shoulder to get his attention.

    When are you gonna admit nuffs enough….You can’t save or reinvent IVAW….It’s a lost cause. The organization is made up entirely of screwups and malcontents…Why can’t you see that and move on? Devote your energy to Veterans issues….something that you can be proud of.

    The only thing IVAW has accomplished is the same that VVAW accomplished. Which is nothing. Nothing other than exposing all memebers as being f##kups and non-hackers and pissing off the majority of those that serve with Honor and Courage.

    You see ArmySgt….all of your IVAW buds picked the wrong time to go to college on the taxpayers dime and ooops… a war broke out. That’s the whole enchilada. Wrong place/wrong time.
    They weren’t drafted…weren’t dragged down to the recruiters office by the Sheriff. No….they just had piss poor timing and decided to run instead of standing up and doing their duty.

    When you get to be our age….you’re gonna reflect back on this time and judge yourself for what you did. You’ll be harder on yourself than anyone else could. That’s because your conscience will be your guide. You may not understand it now, but you will when that day comes.

    Doug Sterner Says:

    I was the guy who outed McBeth. I was NOT involved in the outing of Duncan, but was contacted immediately after the story broke by several reporters and have gone on record on this case as well. This is not a problem the Democrats have…it is a bi-partisan, NATIONAL problem. Before we “R”s point fingers at the Dems, let me make you aware of other similar cases:
    1) Edward Teagartner was the keynote speaker for a GOP event in Ohio last year on behalf of John McCain because Teagartner was purported a former POW. His speech bore that out, but the GOP chair was sure red-faced when we had to tell him Teagartner was a phony.
    2) Senator Arlen Specter introduced legislation last year to upgrade the Silver Star awarded to Terry Calandra, also purportedly a DSC recipient, to the Medal of Honor. It was very embarassing we I had to tell him not only did Calandra not get the DSC, the Silver Star he was trying to get upgraded was a phony.
    3) Three weeks ago a Deputy Sheriff in Arkansas was fired after it was learned the Silver Star on his resume was faked. The investigation into his fraud began after I became aware of a news story of Arkansas Republican Congressman Boozman presenting the guy 16 medals at a Veterans Day event last year.
    4) Last September a Nevada Republican Congressman successfully pushed through the U.S. House a bill to name a Las Vegas Post Officer for WWII Normandy Invasion Silver Star hero Irving Schwarts. In embarassment, he had to jerk that bill out of the Senate when we told him Schwartz did not get the Silver Star and did not arrive in Europe until six months after D-Day.

    I could go on and one…Dems and Reps…making the same mistake. To politicize this is to ignore the real problem, the shabby manner DoD has of keeping a record of our REAL heroes so the phonies are quickly outed. And don’t tell me they need to check DD-214s…I can show you scores of DD-214s for highly decorated combat heroes who got Purple Heart License Plates, even VA benefits…all bogus and many for individuals who never even served in the military.

    I can’t remember anytime when I haven’t been civil to any veteran who’s been civil to me, but I’ll accept that your memory may vary.

    IVAW is not completely made up of screwups and malcontents. There are a lot of good, honorable folks-some of whom volunteered to serve multiple tours. Also, I have to say that I’m sick of people claiming everyone just joined for the college money. The new GI bill is great, but the one I signed under? Not that hot. Would barely cover a community college. A lot of people joined because they believe in the country. They just don’t happen to think the Iraq War serves the country.

    I’m proud of what I did and do to help my fellows. And trust me, I’m already harder on myself than anyone else ever could be. I don’t have to wait for age.

    And notice the “vets” they put on the lefty splash pages are always from the “elite” units. Duncan - USMC, MacBeth - Ranger, I believe.
    Just reading their stories rings the phony bell. I wasn’t in combat arms (MI), but I know a bogus war story when I read it.

    Vet: Kerry Pressured Me to Lie About Atrocities
    Dave Eberhart, NewsMax.com
    Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004
    Vietnam veteran Steve Pitkin claims that John Kerry pressured him to lie in 1971 when he claimed U.S. soldiers engaged in atrocities during the Vietnam War.

    Pitkin had been a key participant in John Kerry’s infamous “Winter Soldier” hearings of the same year, which concluded that the U.S. military was allegedly engaging in war crimes against the Vietnamese.
    These days, Pitkin appears in the controversial anti-Kerry documentary “Stolen Honor: Wounds That Never Heal.” The film features a clip of Pitkin from another documentary film, “Winter Soldier.”

    In that clip, the bearded and bandana-wearing Pitkin seems stunned and vague while being questioned by John Kerry in a preliminary interview – apparently overwhelmed over being asked to describe his combat tour.

    Today, however, Pitkin discloses that his lack of candor in the 1971 film clip actually reflected his efforts to avoid giving Kerry what he so desperately wanted: war stories about how American troops in Vietnam were daily committing war crimes in a last-ditch attempt to turn the tide in that 10-year conflict.

    In the end, Pitkin said, he gave in to Kerry’s pressure and made up allegations of war crimes.

    “The VVAW [Vietnam Veterans Against the War] found me during a difficult time in my life, and I let them use me to advance their political agenda,” Pitkin now confesses. “They pressured me to tell their lies, but that’s no excuse for what I did. I just want people to know the truth and to make amends as best I can. I’d hate to see the troops serving today have to go through what Vietnam veterans did.”

    During a speech at the Kerry Lied Rally on Sept. 12, 2004, Pitkin first identified himself as a vet who, with prodding from Kerry, lied about atrocities in Vietnam:

    “They knew I was one of the very few real combat veterans in the room. I told them I didn’t have anything to say. Kerry said, ‘Surely you’ve seen some of the atrocities.’

    “I kept saying ‘no’ and the mood turned ugly. One of the other leaders whispered to me, ‘It’s a long walk back to Baltimore.’ I’m not proud of this, but I finally agreed to speak. They told me what to talk about – American troops beating civilians and prisoners, shelling and destroying villages for no reason, and acts of racism against the Vietnamese.

    “John Kerry knew that the Winter Soldier testimony was a pack of lies. I know, because I was there, and I told some of those lies.”

    In “Stolen Honor,” Col. Bud Day, a Medal of Honor winner who spent 67 months as a POW, and 16 other POWs of that war lambaste Kerry for creating the myth of brutal GIs terrorizing the countryside.

    “The thing about the Kerry comments in 1971 is that they were so sensational, so outrageous, that they were precisely the kind of thing that a propaganda expert and the news media were looking for …,” Day said. “He has destroyed the good name of all Vietnam veterans. Now he wants us to forget. I can never forget.”

    In “Stolen Honor,” Day and the sixteen other POWs who served years in captivity while undergoing torture claimed that Kerry’s Winter Soldier hearings gave the North Vietnamese fodder for their attacks on the POWs and their desire to continue the war.

    Pitkin’s About-Face

    After years of living a lie, the turnabout by Pitkin is 180 degrees.

    In 1971 he introduced himself before the “Winter Soldiers” investigative panel this way:

    “My name is Steve Pitkin, age 20, from Baltimore. I served with the 9th Division from May of ‘69 until I was air-evacuated in July of ‘69. I’ll testify about the beating of civilians and enemy personnel, destruction of villages, indiscriminate use of artillery, the general racism and the attitude of the American GI toward the Vietnamese. I will also talk about some of the problems of the GIs toward one another and the hassle with officers.”

    Now, in a sworn affidavit recently executed in Palm Beach County, Fla., he has set the record straight:

    “… During my service in Vietnam, I neither witnessed nor participated in any American war crimes or atrocities against civilians, nor was I ever aware of any such actions. I did witness the results of Vietcong atrocities against Vietnamese civilians, including the murder of tribal leaders. …

    “I joined Vietnam Veterans Against the War (VVAW), at Catonsville Community College in Baltimore in 1970.

    “In January of 1971, I rode in a van with John Kerry, a national leader of the VVAW, and others from Washington D.C. to Detroit to attend the Winter Soldier Investigation, a conference intended to publicize alleged American war crimes in Vietnam. Having no knowledge of such war crimes, I did not intend to speak at the event.

    “During the Winter Soldier Investigation, John Kerry and other leaders of that event pressured me to testify about American war crimes, despite my repeated statements that I could not honestly do so. One event leader strongly implied that I would not be provided transportation back to my home in Baltimore, Maryland, if I failed to comply. Kerry and other leaders of the event instructed me to publicly state that I had witnessed incidents of rape, brutality, atrocities and racism, knowing that such statements would necessarily be untrue.”

    In his affidavit, Pitkin also describes how John Kerry’s famous medal tossing in front of the U.S. Capitol was staged:

    “In April 1971, I attended a VVAW protest in Washington D.C. known as ‘Dewey Canyon III.’ During this event I was present when protestors, including John Kerry, threw medals and ribbons over a fence outside the U.S. Capitol. I witnessed a man holding a bag of ribbons and medals and handing them out to other protestors. I saw that many of the ribbons and medals were not those that would be received by veterans of combat in Vietnam.”

    Pitkin served with the Ninth Division of the U.S. Army beginning May 25, 1969. A mortar explosion wounded him and later the wounds became infected, resulting in his removal from the combat zone. During his tour he received the Combat Infantry Badge, Army Commendation Medal, RVN Cross of Gallantry, Air Medal and Purple Heart. He went on later in life to retire from the U.S. Coast Guard.

    NewsMax spoke to Scott Swett of SwiftVets.com and Wintersoldiers.com, who gave some background as to how Steve Pitkin surfaced after three decades.

    According to Swett, Pitkin placed a comment on the SwiftVets.com bulletin board about a month ago. Swett says it was he who followed up, interviewing Pitkin over the course of a couple of days.

    Says Swett: “Pitkin is unique in a couple of ways. He is the only Winter Soldier investigation subject to come forward and under oath recant his testimony. Pitkin is furthermore the only investigation interviewee to return to the military. But most significantly, Pitkin was interviewed directly by Kerry himself on a segment called the ‘miscellaneous panel.’”
