Seems to me that there are two possible explanations for this unanticipated resignation:
1. She’s fed up with life in the spotlight.
2. Something really bad is going to happen to her very soon (scandal, indictment, etc.) and she’s trying to blunt the impact.

Lookit… she is not, and was never, a viable candidate for POTUS.
She might have been the RIGHT candidate to deal with things that actually matter, but the MSM would never have allowed her to win.

As Ponsdorf said, no matter how qualified she is, and she’s at least as qualified as the Pretender-in-Chief, the Lame Stream Media would never, ever have allowed her to wind.
