EXCLUSIVE: TMZ suckered in by Poe

Who saw this on TMZ:

Guess what kiddos….

U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Norman Bone directs movement as his patrol turns around on a narrow path in the mountains of Parwan province in Afghanistan on Oct. 25, 2006. Bone is a patrol leader for the 561st Military Police Company, Fort Campbell, Ky., attached to 10th Mountain Division. DoD photo by Sgt. 1st Class Dexter D. Clouden, U.S. Army. (Released)

Way to go TMZ, way to go.

2 updates here real quick:
1) TMZ got the picture from NBC. Which begs the question, when you go to TMZ, why does it say “Exclusive” on the photo.
2) The lady at TMZ told me the story was the exclusive, and not the picture. You’ll have to go to their link and let me know what the exclusive part is.

Everyone apparently has an exclusive on this, except the guy who actually posted the story first, me. And for the record, full credit should go to the men and women of the 114th if it goes to anyone, because they’re the ones we owe credit for all things to.

FROM COMMENT BELOW:

Hey the picture is wrong also, the HMMWV in the pic is an M1114 without frag 5 armor(this became mandatory in 2007 in Iraq) if he was in A-stan in 2009 he would of been in an M1151 which has a very different window on the door, and why in 2009 is he wearing IBA instead of IOTV, and mix matched ammo pouches? makes sense in 2006 which is the actual pic date but doesn’t make sense in 2009.

The commenter here is a former troop of mine who is like a 1SG or somesuch now. I wanted to highlight it, because it is the kind of thing that troops notice, and the media NEVER notices. Just great stuff.

    Anonymous is the shit!

  2. Isnala says:

    Really?!?!??! I mean REALLY?!?!?

    EPIC Face Palm FAIL!

    -Ish

  3. Tom B. says:

LOL! Busted once again by TSO. I’m really starting to love this place!

  4. Sporkmaster says:

Hold one, because that photo is the same photo that was used for Poe background video on America got Talent. So that would suggest that he submitted that photo to AGT. So it would be less on TMZ and more on AGT.

  5. Marilyn says:

Holy shit!! This guy takes pathological liar to a whole new dimension!!! Awesome work, TSO and all!!!

  6. Old Trooper says:

    Wow; just wow.

  7. Doug Sterner says:

I hope Staff Sergeant Norman Bone can SING…He got THREE “Yeses” on AGT the other night.

  8. Bobo says:

For some reason, that 10th MTN combat patch always bothered me. Now I know why.

  9. Hondo says:

One of our PAO-types might be able to help out here: Aren’t photos taken in the course of official duties by Army photographers copyrighted – with copyright belonging to the Army?

  10. TSO says:

Hondo, just the opposite in fact, no copyright attaches to any government picture, document etc.

  11. Doug Sterner says:

SAME photo was used in the WFAA story, so you can’t chalk this up to a stock photo slipped in there by accident by the producers of AGT. This MUST have been provided to both sources by Poe. Wonder what WFAA will have to say about this NEW “evidence” in light of last night’s other “evidence.”

  12. Steadfast&Loyal says:

there has got to be a special hell for this.

    This is beyond insane.

  13. NHSparky says:

If anything, this simply beclowns the entire mainstream media on several levels; first, their failure of due dilligence in checking this guy’s claims. Second, their using bullshit (or at least inaccurate) photos to portray Sgt. Poe. Third, not giving credit where credit is due, because that would mean they have to admit they have been asleep at the switch pretty much since, well, ALWAYS.

As bad as Poe looks, the MSM is looking just as bad here.

  14. The Sniper says:

I wish Poe would just write out a note stating that he totally lied about everything, blow his brains out, and we could be done with this.

  15. Doug Sterner says:

Hey…this is the same MEDIA that filed an Amicus Brief OPPOSING the Stolen Valor Act.

  16. Mike says:

How long does he figure he can keep this house of cards propped up against the building hurricane? He’s gotta know that this is not gonna end well.

  17. Crzyscout says:

Besides the obvious lies, the picture makes no sense. He was in A-stan in 2009 but the picture clearly shows the HMMWV in the patrol as being an M1114 without the Frag 5 kit(the Frag 5 became mandatory in 2007 when I was in Iraq), he would have been riding in an M1151 which has a completely different configuration for the window on the door.

  18. VTWoody says:

Stern said something would happen with him in Vegas, so we’ll see what they do

  19. NHSparky says:

@16 Doug–of course–because how else are they going to push the “crazy vet” meme when only the lying POS poseurs and frauds are the ones who do it? And it’s been 24 years and I STILL haven’t heard CBS apologize for airing, “The Wall Within.”

  20. Hondo says:

Crzyscout: it’s a published Army photo taken in Afghanistan in 2006. It ain’t Poe.

  21. Doug Sterner says:

Those who want to sympathize with him as being delusional or having mental problems need to realize that there is a VERY CLEAR, HI-RES copy of this photo from the DOD website. Yet the broadcast image is poor res and blurred…
Such CALCULATED actions are not those of a delusional man, but a very crafty, sharp-mined con man who is going to great lengths to fabricate his story. There is no legitimate excuse for Poe’s actions. He knew EXACTLY what he was doing.

  22. Steadfast&Loyal says:

@NHS…stop it. You’re giving Poe an out. I am willing to bet he pulls the PTSD crap next.

    PTSD made me do it!!

If AGT wants to make it right they need to not mention him on the show….at all. He becomes PNG…done and over. Any more attention by the show itself merely fuels ratings and AGT doesn’t deserve that even for thier lack of diligence.

  23. Doug Sterner says:

Better yet…find SSGT Bone, invite him to come on and introduce a REAL combat vet to the audience!

  24. Whitey_Wingnut says:

    I like your idea @Doug.

  25. Crzyscout says:

Hondo, I’m tracking, just wanted to add some fuel to the fire with my observations

  26. Doug Sterner says:

Methinks TSO’s Got Talent. (Definitely evident HERE).
    I give him a “Yes”.

  27. Whitey_Wingnut says:

I think if they really wanted to get this douchenozzle in Vegas they bring everybody from his unit and explain himself to them as well as SSgt Bone.

  28. Tman says:

    Several thoughts:

    1. Wow, this sure had created a lot of attention here and elsewhere. You can bet that Poe is eating this all up

    2. Early front runner for macbeth poser of the year award.

    3. In this internet day and age, no one can convince me that the likes of Poe was not aware that eventually their shenanigans would be revealed. Poe damned well knew that it’s practically impossible these days to go around making false military claims without consequences. Hell, I am willing to bet my farm that Poe himself frequented this website.

BUT, his overwhelming narcissism overpowered that part of his brain that knew he would be caught. He knew that, yet his desire to get attention, fame, and sympathy points for being on national television over rode all common sense.

In a twisted way, Poe is indeed getting the attention he craves, and perhaps a part of him is happy about that regardless.

    4. Waiting for the tear filled “IF” I offended anyone apology. Probably blame this deception on combat stress or PTSD as these turds always do.

  29. Mike says:

It doesn’t take much for me to imagine Poe’s future singing career. Sitting on a street corner, strumming his guitar and a cardboard sign that reads “Disabled war vet…Please help!”

  30. NHSparky says:

Early front runner for macbeth poser of the year award.

When this broke, I figured he’d be a 1-seed. Yesterday, I figured the only person who could rival him would be “Sergeant Major” Mailman, aka “Gunny Driveway.”

Today? Not even close. Just give Poe the JMB SV trophy now, and while you’re at it, give him the Ballduster Memorial Award to boot.

  31. Redacted1775 says:

Will there be a JMB tourney this year?

  32. Parachute Cutie says:

I was told by Poe (yeah) that he did tape at Vegas but was not put through. I’ll just be curious if they pull that performance (and they sure as hell better).

  33. UpNorth says:

    @#24, I like that idea!!

  34. BohicaTwentyTwo says:

TMZ took the ball and ran with it. They have an updated article and photo, and they interviewed the REAL soldier in the photo.

    http://www.tmz.com/2012/06/07/timothy-poe-americas-got-talent-soldier-photo-afghanistan/

No mention of you guys though. We still love you.

  35. Ret12B40 says:

Well, I just went out for my smoke break, and outside the MP School, in the smoking are a was none other than SSG Bone. A nice frank discussion was had.

  36. i was deployed in afghanistan in 09-10, while there HUMVEES were NOT allowed to roll out the gate in my unit.

  37. Guest says:

Sent the wrong picture from his hard drive? He sent the wrong picture a LOT. wfaa.com’s story had the picture (and others) too. WTF!

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2156080/Americas-Got-Talent-lied-grenade-injury-backtracks-FAKE-portrait-combat.html?ito=feeds-newsxml

  38. Doug Sterner says:

Sent the wrong picture four or five times…all those photos were as stolen as his Stolen Valor. What a CROCK!

  39. TSO says:

Yeah SS, that reporter there rocks. Been talking to her all day today, when Jonn isn’t flirting with her!

    Second look at MSNBC?

  40. timmified says:

what a douch! props to the real soldier

  41. RBiswell says:

Why could’nt this AGT guy just be happy with the service he did? No one would have thought any less of him because of his service whatever it’s capacity if he had just told the truth. I served in Iraq in 2003, ran my retrans site and came home thankfully in one piece and not suffering from PTSD. I am proud of that. I have no need to embellish my story or make up injuries that I received in the line of duty. What a fraud and what is worse than someone who has never served claiming that they have is this guy, a person who knows what it means to serve and dishonors himself by lying about it.

As any Vietnam veteran can tell you nobody wanted to be one when America was using us for a** wipe now every lying punk in America claims to have been there and won the MOH…The media are two faced gullible pri*ks who love a victim not a veteran..pi** on the media they ain’t your friend.

  45. Bruce says:

I was in Vietnam 68/69, serve with the 4th infantry, got my helmet shot off my head by friendly-fire, while on combat mission, CO seize my “helmet, cover-up the shooting incident by never writting “incident report. I was angry soldier leaving Vietnam, an I remain “angry.

  46. Anonymous says:

Yeah, we all have ours. There’s a kid sitting at the BART in almost new utilities, from his cover down to his boondockers.everyday, although his sign no longer reads”former POW, Purple Heart, worked with every branch of services” I saw that and told him he’s a lying piece of s***. he now hides is sign when I walk by. The cops have run him off several times.
