Alex Popovic Subway sandwich shop commando

| June 13, 2012

A lovely young lady who will remain nameless here sent the following piece to us about a guy she met in her local Subway sandwich shop while he was slicing and dicing and telling his war stories. She thought it was a little odd that he’d being working in a sandwich shop after he told her that he’d been advising President Bush on strategy for the global war against terror and did some research on the guy.

She’s been looking for a venue to publish her research when she discovered TSO’s battle against uncommon stupidity last week and settled on TAH.

This is Alex Popovic, CEO and Founder of Greyside Group; you can view his website here

By their own admission they have the “Highest Legal, Moral, and Professional Business practices in the Industry”.

Let’s look at the first paragraph of his bio:

“Born and raised in Sydney, Australia, Mr. Popovic immigrated to the Unites States in 1986, becoming a U.S. citizen in 1994. Earning a degree in Chemical Engineering at Florida State University, he garnered minors in mathematics and physics as well. In 1993 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, rising to serve in elite U.S. Special Operations units for 10 years. Mr. Popovic participated in classified and unclassified missions throughout the world, including Liberia, Bosnia, Iraq, and Afghanistan. He was awarded the Silver Star for valor and the Purple Heart for wounds sustained in combat. He has briefed former President George W. Bush, Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld, and various national security advisors and national military command council members on strategies and tactics during the Global War on Terror after the events of 11 September 2001. ”

WOW! Impressive!

– Silver Star Recipient-
– Purple Heart Recipient
– Briefed former President George Bush and Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld

The Real issue. Confirmation from the Marine Corps-

A degree at FSU? I see an Aleksandar Popovic with a degree from FSU….but he is a Serbian politician.

What a Coincidence!

Sounds like this guy would be working at a Subway store, not briefing former President Bush.

Which reminds me……he WAS a Subway manager, and managed to work his way up to owner. Maybe the CAR is a sandwich, not an award? (Chicken Avocado Ranch?)

Question of the day – With the Stolen Valor issue- doesn’t it seem like this poser has built an industry on military honors he has not received?

I’ve seen her documentation, but I’m not publishing it here at her request since she’s also approached ABC News.

Ya know what I’d do if I doubted what is posted here on this blog that is on the internet? I’d go to the sandwich artist himself and ask for proof that he was awarded a Silver Star or a Purple Heart – that seems more productive than barking at some two-bit blog. But then, you’re not really interested in the truth, are you? Dingus.

  2. Hondo says:

Anonymous: the letter posted in comment 170 appears to have been done in response to an inquiry concerning the individual, and also appears to have come from official records custodians at HQMC.

But I guess I can file a FOIA with NPRC and let them tell me the same.

  3. Ex-PH2 says:

Do you want chips with that?

  4. Hondo says:

Ex-PH2: nah. By the time NPRC sent the chips, they’d be stale. They’re averaging several weeks on FOIAs these days.

And by the time the USPS got done with them, they’d be crumbs. (smile)

    Commnet #148 says it all.

Exactly a two bit blog that for the most part does a good job of exposing posers, but this posting about this Popovich guy and all the subsequent threads are so full of shit …… Is Dingus plural of dingos, did a dingo eat your baby?” Why ask someone about something, or go to the sandwich artist, con artist or impressionist artist himself when it was created by others and passed off as if this individual claimed these? Clearly nothing of the sort happened prior to this “crackpot” story that ABC has yet to break, they wouldn’t shit on it. John, did you or anyone else try to contact Popovich? Or are you so blinded by this females claims that you did zero investigative work and instead blindly posted it, we’re guessing some inside work was done between you and some other blogs based on “anonymous” individuals’ claims and some photos sent that were probably obtained illegally, but I digress, and then linked it to the website owned and operated by Chris Mark Two words…..Screen shot, then that former blog owner quickly throws up a disclaimer in an effort to distance himself from you the day this phoney was exposed. Oooooooops

If I was this guy I’d sue the piss outta you, then maybe you could post a large tirade apologizing, but doing it in such a satirical way that it turns out to be the length of a Tom Clancy novel that everyone praises and loves. Perhaps he should hire the attorney from San Diego. Maybe this post is coming from an IP address in San Diego?

    What is the truth John?

  6. 0311 says:

FOIA and records have been ordered, if this subway shop commando has the Silver Star or any credentials why hasn’t he posted them? And to answer your question someone HAS tried to call him. Crickets. Lawsuits keep piling up. All it takes is an internet search.

Hondo, is commenter @206 coming from Popovich’s location?

Interesting criminal case filed 11/30/12…St. of AZ vs. Alex Popovic…remember…”innocent until proven guilty”

  10. Kaizar Soze says:

#209 Perhaps Popovich’s location is in Missouri, or is it Australia, I guess we’ll have to wait and see when all the information comes in from his FOIA request.

    IP check aisle 1

#207 Your ignorance is reflected in your supposition. If a FOIA has been requested then we’ll wait to see what is discovered then, but a piece of paper from HQMC that answers a question about medals that was concocted by others and enabled by blogs such as this one, answers that question correctly, slippery slope arguement. 11. Green Thumb says:

I would like a roasted chicken sandwich on Italian bread (toasted)with lettece, tomato, bell peppers, salt and pepper, chipolte sauce with a side of stolen valor.

    Hurry up. Chop, chop.

  12. NHSparky says:

I’m thinking that with a pending criminal case someone might be in a bit of trouble if they left the state where charges were filed without the court’s permission.

    C’est non?

  13. Ex-PH2 says:

    Oh, mais si, si, m’sieur.

  14. 2/17 Air Cav says:

@206. “Is Dingus plural of dingos[?]

No, dingus is singular. Its plural form is dungi (pronounced dun-guy). Additionally, unless waived to dingushood, a minor can only be a dingule. I hope this helps you, Dingus.

  17. Classless Tool says:

#209 Any luck on that IP address, what is Popovich’s location, perhaps John can see into his house with his super duper powerful telescope and can see him pounding walls and losing business. This thread and story is joke.

(To the originator: faking another’s online persona is frowned upon, dipstick – hence the edit to a more apropos screen name for you on this comment.)

  18. MCPO NYC USN (Ret.) says:

I tried saying that word … I can’t do it!

  19. Green Thumb says:

  20. Ex-PH2 says:

    @220 – We know.

  21. Hondo says:

By the way, “Classless” – using an anonymous proxy doesn’t really hide much besides your physical location. It’s still obvious that it’s you.

  24. Brian Flannigan says:

    To All:

I know Alex Popovic. He’s a psychotic liar and an asshole. If his lips are moving, he’s lying. He’s a two bit con-artist, who steals and bullshits for a living, pretending to be a hero. If I ever see him again, I’ll put a boot up his ass. For those that doubt these facts about him, you are idiots, the truth will be out soon enough, the cockroach has nowhere to go. I can’t wait to see this asshole arrested, he’s a punkass little pussy that preys upon people.

  25. Anonymous says:

Is this the same Brian Flannigan from the movie “cocktail”? Great bartender flick. IP check aisle 6. Perhaps the blog owners/operators want to change the name of this posting. We, us, they, them.

  26. Taco Bell says:

I got the same crap for my post over at my crappy little blog. Old Kaizar Soze is real crackup only he’s not worth the time to approve. Just to be clear, the letter that came from Quantico is from a POC that I know from my time on active duty up there. He can pull up every Marine and their awards. His letter will reflect what is in his SRB which will come out of the FOIA. Can’t wait until Jonn posts that.

  27. Taco Bell says:

Hey Anybody out there in AZ, it looks like you might get a chance to meet our hero at his court date 3-22-13. wouldn’t that be interesting to sit in on that courtroom. I may fly over for the day to check it out myself then I can ask him some questions person to person since he is no longer located in his office building and the numbers don’t work.

It seems as if a lot of these posts are from ‘popo’ himself. If indeed it was all fabricated wouldn’t he have taken some action to have them removed? File a lawsuit, post his DD214, demand they be removed? Instead it appears as if he is doing nothing more than masqurading as a poster and trying to clear his name. Ask yourself. If it was you being defamed…what would you do? I would personally do more than bitch online. Maybe he is concerned that actual action would result in the evidence being released publicly. AP…if it is you. Why not post your DD214 and put this to bed…end of story? Quit taking potshots at everyone makes you look like this info is accurate.

Clearly sandwich boy thinks he is a computer genius by his reference to “IP Check on isle 1″ etc. Although he clearly has no idea what an IP actually is…he certainly does not understand (get ready to copy AP…)…exif and meta data…this is data contained in pictures, and documents that, along with other data (I will not disclose but let you scramble to find), can be forensically confirmed to validate integrity and authenticity…in short…his claiming that a document was not created by AP can be shown to have originated from him and his computer…clever huh?..”IP Check Isle 7…” Fucking idiot…get your shine box…assclown…

Oh shit! you mean that bio I sent to people can be traced back to my computer? “Yes..idiot” mean that the resume I sent to the insurance company in the UK can be traced back to me? “yes clown”…you mean that picture I took on a ship actually recorded the time and date in exif data which cannot be modified? “you are learning you fool…”

If he decides to “sue the piss” out of this blog or anyone he has threatened….I am sure he will get a lesson in technology and what it can disclose about him…;)

Anonymous @198 didn’t just take a trip to Vegas. He had a court appearance just five hours prior to his post to answer for screwing somebody out of their money. The parties settled. Maybe he didn’t like what came out of the settlements and started another asinine post? Well, I happen to live in Vegas and Mr. Poplockanddropit is going to be showing up in court here periodically for the next year or so. Might just have to drop by and let some of the veterans I know working there to be “extra courteous” to him during the security screening.

  40. 11B vet says:

Correction, anonymous @ 198 posted literally within two hours of Alex Popvic’s court appearance. Coincidence?…

I’ve been in the MarSec industry for the past two years at the owner-manager level. I can tell you all that the perception of American PMSCs abroad is that we are all Blackwater Cowboys hell-bent on shooting at will, like renegade bandits in some post apocalyptic B-movie thriller. I fight this perception everyday. This perception war is a sad reality.

The fact is that there is a moral imperative we all have in the security industry to dedicate ourselves to performing our duties with the highest regard for the preservation of life, and the protection of our clients’ property and crew. It’s a delicate and challenging balance, but it’s the life we chose.

Alex Popovic’s presence in the MarSec space these past few years has done nothing to help our image abroad and it all really boils down to his character. I’ve heard first hand from ship owners both in the US and in Europe that he is not to be trusted. In other circles, he’s just a big joke. And I have heard one too many anecdotes and stories about his poor character from those that have worked directly for him.

Each day he represents himself to clients as ‘who he is’ (or, as is more likely the case, who he is not) he sets us back years and, what’s worse than the perception factor, he remains a cancer in a private security world where integrity must be the foundation of execution.

In this MarSec insider’s opinion, I wish he was just a joke….but the fact is, he’s a walking moral harm who needs to either figure out a way to right his own moral compass and start making some apologies to those he disgraced, or, fade away into the obscurity of the red light bar scene in some eastern European village where he can continue to live his lie and peddle his wares to those who will eventually become as uneager to do business or associate with him as the rest of us.

  44. Hondo says:

“ClarkCounty” (or should I call you “Classless”?): possibly, if that’s the case involving Popovic that settled recently and for which the judge ordered the records sealed (Case Number 08A576611). But it appears “Aleks the Pop” will be back in Clark Co, NV, again in late June of this year for case number 08A576528. You can find that one by going here,103,104,105,200,201,202,203,500,600,601,602,603,604,605,606,607,608,609,610,611,612,613,614,615,616,617,618,619,699,700,701,702,703,704,705,706,707,708,709,710,711,712,713,714,715,716,717,718,719,720,721,722,723,724,725,726,727,728,729,730,731,797,798,2201,2202,2203,2204,2205,2206,2207,2208,2209,2210,2213,2214&NodeDesc=All%20Courts

And entering the case number in the proper field.

Well, “Aleks the Pop” will be there if he’s not in jail in AZ. His court case in AZ appears to be in criminal vice civil court, and he’s a defendant in that AZ case. So it’s always possible he’ll be “indisposed” in June.
