Gun safety; it’s not just for the range
TSO and one of my ninjas sent us this article about the tragic shooting of a young soldier in Killeen, TX outside the gate at Fort Hood. It seems that Pfc. Patrick Edward Myers tried to cure Pfc. Isaac Lawrence Young’s bout of hiccups by scaring him with a gun pointed at his face. Then he pulled the trigger and shot Young in the face and killed him.
Pfc. Patrick Edward Myers, 27, was charged on Tuesday with manslaughter, and Justice of the Peace Garland Potvin set his bond at $1 million, police said.
Myers forgot that training he got with the Army which said you don’t point your gun at anything you don’t intend to shoot.

Manslaughter? Okay…give him the max then double it as a “stupid crime” penalty.

who in the goddmaned hell is that stupid? honestly, if natural selection missed that jag in the bag then i feel like humanity is lost.
the kid’s family must be bewildered, through all the suffering, as to how that kind of asinine behavior goes on in the military
that’s tragic

I’m actually more shocked that this was not at Joint Base Lewis/McChord.
September 26th, 2012 at 9:39 am
Very tragic. Nothing good in this story. And if there is … it has been taught a million times over and over.
September 26th, 2012 at 9:53 am
Aimed at his face, had his booger hook on the trigger, and it was an accident. Yeah, I’m calling BS on that one.

[...] Soldier cures colleague’s hiccups for good. I guess this is proof the A.S.V.A.B. scoring requirement needs to be higher. My condolences to PFC Young’s Family for this senseless tragedy. Just more stupid shit – just like the cop who “accidentally discharged” the pistol that was recovered from the flight attendant’s carry-on at Philadelphia’s airport not too long ago. Didn’t the article also mention something about Myer’s believed the pistol to have blanks in it? Still… no excuse. Just stupid shit.

I feel bad for PFC Young and his family. It is a horrible tragedy that never should have happened. Muzzle awareness is drilled into Soldiers from day one. It must be pure misery to have the misfortune to be PFC Myer’s Squad Leader or Platoon Sergeant right now.

Ya know fellas, I’m at a loss. Some Pvt shoots his rack mate with an RPG, this clown shoots his rack mate in the face and your own stories of people doing stupid sh1t! Maybe this is why my own “dumb a$$” story was so boring. Back in the day if something like had happened, you bet your a$$ you would be in such deep sh1t you wouldn’t see daylight for months if not years! I guess that’s the difference between SNCOs that were from the ’50s and Viet Nam War vets and the Sr. NCOs now.

I am so dumdfounded, I don’t know what to say! My condolences go out to PFC Youngs family.

He intentionally pointed a gun at someone…the reason doesn’t matter. This was not an “accident,” and he needs to be punished.
September 26th, 2012 at 10:28 am
Unfortunately, when someone “plays stupid games” occasionally others also “get stupid prizes”. Involuntarily.
RIP, PFC Young.

Better than the one at the airport this week where the police officer went to secure the firearm and the gun accidently discharged.

1 life ended, 1 life changed forever….too much XBOX, too little real life…in real life there is no jelly-face self healing after a few minutes, in real life boys you are just dead no respawn, no revive.
September 26th, 2012 at 11:15 am
The dumbfuckery is strong with this one.

Cure hiccups with a gun in the face? Really? That is the lamest thing I have ever heard. You cannot cure involuntary muscle spasms by scaring someone. That is a myth.
I think CID needs to look a little deeper into this. However, I have no doubt that DOD will get a “suggestion” from Dictat Obama forbidding SMs to carry weapons. Hopefully, they just interpret it as carry personal weapons. Otherwise, we could end up with soldiers overseas unarmed… oh, wait…

A man walks into a bar and asks for a glass of water. The bartender takes a sawed-off shotgun from under the bar and shoots off a round. The man says “Thank you” and leaves.
Now, why did the man say “Thank you?”

Just read an update that….. shocking as it may seem…. ALCOHOL was involved.

My problem is the bail amount. I moonlight as a bounty hunter and I’ve seen child molesters have a bail 1/20th of that amount

Here in my neck o’ the cactus, this is what is known as 1st Degree Felony Stupidity. Mandatory 5-20 yrs, without the possibility of Parole.

@16
It’s true though. I bet that PFC Young never hiccups again. :p

#17 Ex-PH2: way to much NCIS, though good episode.
#16 Flagwaver: I think it was the only excuse he could come up with when they grabbed him.

@22 0h, HECK! I’ve been found out! Now I have to start quoting “Burn Notice”. Oh, well, I do that, anyway. :O
September 26th, 2012 at 8:07 pm
@16. OFF TOPIC. This is so strange. Next time you’re with someone who is suffering hiccups, ask what their favorite color is. Sounds insane but it usually works.
September 26th, 2012 at 8:25 pm
It is what it is, *dumbass* with a weapon in its hand.
September 26th, 2012 at 8:29 pm
Yeah, this is what a ‘gun’ is supposed to be used for:

@21 your comment is extremely insensitive. This young man has a family in morning.
September 28th, 2012 at 4:24 pm
@29. Yes, it was insensitive–but true. The episode was stupid, bizarre, and deadly. That’s a surefire combination to invite such comments. Did you see the comments regarding the guy dressed up as Big Foot who stood in a road to scare people? Sasquatch squash. Someone died there too–but the whole story was stupid, bizarre, and deadly.
