Nice one. We’re all tired, JL. All of us.

But there is hope. An Earth-type planet has been found orbiting HD403703, 42 light years away, in the habitable zone. Mabye we could all just move there.

Getting along with = caring about. We won’t get anything done simply tolerating each other, and making our interactions adversarial contests where there are “winners” and “losers.” When we do that, we all lose.

I’m progressive and liberal. When I was working on making sure the B-1 was nuclear capable and also dropping bombs and mines (those were for the squids), nobody ever asked what Party you were in. None of the acrimony that just is out there. We did our job and hit the bars for happy hour. Hell I never even knew what party people leaned to. Or cared except when I filled out an absentee ballot.

Now in the real world, will there be RIFs? Yup. Happens every time the war ends. Happened after Vietnam, after the Cold War (remember the BS Peace Dividend?), and now after GWOTT or whatever they decided to call it.

We should have learned not to put boots on the ground in places we never really cared about and won’t after we leave.

And so it goes.
