Yup, looks real to me

Someone sent us this picture and since it’s a slow news day and since I don’t feel like writing a post every five minutes about L’affaire Petraeus, shirtless FBI agents and the media chasing the Lebanese twins around hoping they’ll take their shirts off, here, this picture came from this forum;

Now, I don’t know a Marine uniform from a Navy uniform, but I do know that, with the Saudi Defense and Kuwaiti Liberation Medals, there should be a star or three on that SWAT medal. I’m pretty sure that the Navy Sea Service Deployment Ribbon doesn’t rank higher than a Bronze Star Medal. But you guys go ahead. And, oh, if you know where he is, we’d like to know, too. The only thing visible on that crooked-ass name plate is “Anton”

ADDED: I guess Stolen Valor can be a family activity;

I wish my facial hair looked that good.

I mean seriously if he put half as much effort into his uniform as he does into PMCSing that beard there’d be reason to call his medals into question.

  2. Hondo says:

Love the beard. Thought the Navy did away with those in 1986, though.

And yeah, that does appear to be a SEAL Trident above the ribbons.

  3. Nik says:

Looks “Navy” to me. Tan piss-cutter and some sorta device on it that isn’t the EGA.

  4. NHSparky says:

Holy shit, where do I begin…aw, fuck it. Just take off and nuke this douchetool from orbit. It’s the only way to be sure.

And Hondo–it was 1/1/1985. I remember the day well. Remember one Chief who looked like he had NO lower jaw after he shaved it off and I thought to myself, “I **knew** there was a reason he liked his beard so much.”

While SEALs do let the facial hair grow out on deployment (hell, we even got to do “no shave” chits on long underways with a $10 contribution to the boat’s MWR Fund) it’s a big no-no when back in CONUS.

  5. NHSparky says:

Nik–that’s a Naval officer crest, so he at least got that right.

But the name tag is all jacked up. Not even with the pocket, and I’m pretty fucking sure there’s no command that would allow an unauthorized emblem from a command that doesn’t even exist any longer on it.

  6. Ret12B40 says:

Pretty sure there ought to be at least ONE Bronze Service Star on the SWASM (South West Asia Service Medal).

  7. Nik says:

    @5

I thought it might be, but I didn’t trust my remaining brain cells enough to be sure.

And the way his cover is sitting on his head isn’t right. It’s almost as if…well…maybe it wasn’t his or something. It’s clearly too small. It’s broke down the middle and still doesn’t cover his head right.

  8. MCPO NYC USN (Ret.) says:

    ANALYSIS

Beards in the Navy = NSW DEVGRU.
Sea Service over Bronze Star = Drunk SEAL TEAM 6 Member, cut him some slack!
Top Gun Aviator Sunglasses = “Could not see in the dark and put nameplate on crooked”
Ribbon Lined up ON the pocket line = Perfection in all that he does!
    Pestilent look = Killer instinct!

    REAL DEAL!

    END OF ANALYSIS

  9. Nicki says:

    What the fuckin’ fuck???

Is that one of the Village People?

  10. Nik says:

Shouldn’t there be some daylight between his ribbon rack and the top of his pocket? Looks like it’s flush on top of it.

  11. NHSparky says:

Master Chief–the only thing that would make this more perfect is if he was dressed in a women’s shirt and bloused his khaki pants into some bitchin lookin boots a’la Soup Sandwich.

  12. MCPO NYC USN (Ret.) says:

In the Navy (did I just say that?)… above the pocket is ALAWYS 1/4 inch! Either side and for everything … NOTHING is mounted on the thread or stitch of ANYTHING! PERIOD! FINISHED! I think I am 100% almost pretty sure on that!

  13. RM3(SS) says:

I read these and still wonder why can’t we get someone with dolphins? What the “silent service” ain’t sexy enough? Obviously they never made it to the P.I. back in the day. ;-)

  14. NHSparky says:

    Nik–Yep…1/4 inch above the pocket.

  15. NHSparky says:

    RM3/SS–I made it to PI…

  16. MCPO NYC USN (Ret.) says:

@ 13 …. sshhhh … It is the Silent Service for a reason …. the posers don’t know about it … yet!

  17. Nik says:

    @14

Thought so. In the Corps, it’s 1/8″. Figured it’d be something like that in the Navy.

  18. MCPO NYC USN (Ret.) says:

    Did someone say PI:

    1. Midget throwing.
    2. Smiles at Marylines.
    3. SM for 20 cents.
    4. LBFM’s all over the place.

Sorry about # 1 … I should not have said Midgets, that is insensitve. I should have said “Fun Size”.

  19. Twist says:

@16, We already have plenty of posers using the plot for “The Deer Hunter” in their stories. It would be a change of pace for a poser to use the plot from “Hunt For Red October” or “U571″.

  20. CBSenior says:

Prior Enlisted? Good Conduct? No Antons as a LT listed in NKO White Pages, but for this dude maybe I should have looked in the BLACK pages.

  21. Andy Kravetz says:

Honest question from someone who doesn’t know. I get the medals are in the wrong place, the nameplate is crooked and well, he’s sporting a Justin Timberlake style beard, but my question is this.

Is it possible for things to get crooked? I mean, it’s just a pin, right. Could a nameplate become crooked and you would have to notice or be told? I honestly don’t know and am just curious. Not defending the guy but it’s tough for us civilians to grasp the detail that goes into one’s uniform. Makes me wonder why anyone would think they could pull it off…

    Andy Kravetz

  22. CBSenior says:

ALL AT ONCE: Attention to detail. They kick you in the nuts for months in boot camp about it. Plus a shit load of uniform inspections. That is why you always do a self check and a buddy check before manuevering.

  23. Hondo says:

Andy: only if he either (1) snagged it pretty hard on something while wearing it, or (2) didn’t bother to check it before putting on his shirt (or put it on while he was shitfaced). Alignment of ribbons/nametags/etc . . . is something you double-check between putting them on the shirt and putting on said shirt.

In fact, it’s really kinda tough to screw up the nametag after putting it on the same shirt a few times. The shirt gets “pick marks” where the two prongs on the nametag go through it. After a few times, getting the nametag straight on the shirt where it belongs gets pretty easy.

  24. Nik says:

    @21

Possible? Yes. In the sense that World Peace is possible, but very unlikely.

These things are specifically designed NOT to become crooked.

  25. MCPO NYC USN (Ret.) says:

    @ 21 Andy … NO!

Too many errors. PERIOD GUILTY AS CHARGED! Any Mil (or decent former) member would have told him about the name plate and it would have been fixed on site! The Sea Service ribbon above the BS and ribbons mounted on the pocket are DEAD give aways. This guy IS A FRAUD POSER. And even if he is, by some strange and almost impossible chance, the real deal, he should have is ass kicked by a division of recruits from Great Lakes because he is jacked up and he landed in this blog!

Any questions? I did not think so!

  26. MCPO NYC USN (Ret.) says:

And again, I apologize if I have offended any “Fun Sized” people who read this blog!

  27. NHSparky says:

@20–Prior Enlisted? Good Conduct? No Antons as a LT listed in NKO White Pages, but for this dude maybe I should have looked in the BLACK pages.

And if I look at that right, that’s a SILVER star on that GCM, meaning SIX awards, or at least 18 years of service. Yeah, I’m guessing that 18 years ago this douchetool thought girls had cooties.

Hell, he probably still thinks that.

  28. USMCE8Ret12 says:

Correct me if I’m wrong, but shouldn’t the proper order of precedence be:
Bronze Star, Navy & Marine Corps Achievement, Combat Action, Navy “E”, Navy Good Conduct, National Defense Service, Armed Forces Expeditionary, Southwest Asia Service, Afghanistan Campaign, Iraq Campaign, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary, Global War on Terrorism Service, Armed Forces Service, Navy Sea Service Deployment, Kuwait Liberation Ribbon (Saudi Arabia), Kuwait Liberation (Kuwait), Navy Expert Rifle Ribbon, Navy Pistol Expert Ribbon

  29. RM3(SS) says:

Ahhh Master Chief, the memories of “fun sized” LBFM’s. brings a tear to my eye. Pay my bar fine? :-)

  30. MCPO NYC USN (Ret.) says:

29 .. you are dastardly … you liked “midget (fun sized) LBFM’s. You Marines are always pushing the envelope of fun!

  31. GoddamContractor says:

The guy seems to have a MRAP behind his left shoulder (rear door of RG31 SOCOM variant?), and a genuine raghead behind his right shoulder.

  32. AW1 Tim says:

It’s been awhile, but IIRC, you are only allowed to wear one set of specialty insignia, (recruiters, CO’s, etc excepted). ?

This guy has a SEAL trident above his award rack, but also has Navy parachutist wings below, and I was under the impression you only get to wear one or the other.

And yeah……. someone needs to give this clown some wall-to-wall counseling.

  33. RM3(SS) says:

Only Marine here was a SUBmarine! At the Buzzard you could fit get two for one on fun sized! Adult Disneyland it was…
This is more fun than talking about posers!

  34. NHSparky says:

RM3(SS)…ah, the memories…Island Girls up in Bo Baretto…one of the few bars where skimmer pukes rightly feared to tread. And free beer first night the boat was in.

It’s good having a retired submariner who ran a bar in the PI. I miss that place.

Watching a buddy of mine do an entire pitcher of Mojo and try to walk, only to realize, “Holy shit–gravity WORKS!” Via’s right across the bridge for tacos and lumpia before catching the “special” to the Barrio (or worse.)

I’m too old to do that shit now, but it was fun to get to do it when I had the chance.

  35. kp32 says:

@21- The nametag looks like one of the pins broke, but there is no excuse for the other discrepancies.

  36. GoddamContractor says:

    Detour ahead…
Damn Facebook searches never disappoint…. you can’t make this shit up. https://www.facebook.com/anton.navyseal

  37. CBSenior says:

@28 Yes, besides the Obvious first two, the Battle E is out of place. He has 18yrs service but no NAVCOMS? There is a Reserve Seal Team 17 in Cali. but he does not have the Reserve service ribbons.

  38. OWB says:

Gotta be legit – just look at the shades!

Once made the mistake (OK, I still don’t think it really was a mistake, but I never did it again!) of privately pointing out to a “superior” that his uniform was jacked up. He took offense. Our supervisor understood completely. but made us sit down and talk it out anyway.

    What a crock!

  39. Ex-PH2 says:

I get it. He’s a Marine seal. The photo caption says “good to see a Marine here”. That explains it.

I thought the Navy gave up garrison caps in the 1970s.

  40. MCPO NYC USN (Ret.) says:

@ Ex-PH2 … All ranks still wear the Garrison Cap … aka “Piss Cutter”

  41. USMCE8Ret12 says:

    Marines don’t wear khaki covers.

  42. USMCE8Ret12 says:

Marines don’t wear khaki covers – EVER.

  43. MCPO NYC USN (Ret.) says:

@ 32 … Negative. Two Warfare Devices are authorized. Para Wings are quals and treated like Warfare Device. Ah … SEALS typically wear Trident and Gold Jump Wings or just Trident because wearing Jump Wings violates the double multiple have that already redundancy rule. But chicks dig the two devices … so most SEALs wear both!

  44. MCPO NYC USN (Ret.) says:

@ 36 … Wait … we are talking about a poser Navy SEAL named Anton … then we devolve into a cesspool of debauchery discussing ol’ PI … then you googletwit facetweet mybook whatever and come up with that … HOLY BAT SH*T … There is a God and he is a COMEDIAN!

  45. Mustang says:

Found him. His name is Anton Antonov. Anyone speak Russian?

  47. streetsweeper says:

Antonovich is the posters last name…

  48. Mustang says:
