Douche bag being douchie

| November 19, 2012

Meet Lindsey Stone, a self-proclaimed douchebag. See that picture? She thinks it’s hilarious because she’s being her douche bag self. Of course, she’s at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers, and she thinks that doing what she’s doing is like smoking under a “No Smoking” sign.

This is just us, being the douchebags that we are, challenging authority in general

Whose authority, Lindsey? The folks enforcing the “Silence & Respect” are soldiers. The Tomb is property of the Army, more accurately, the soldiers who are interred there. Of course, the sign is just supposed to remind you of your own proper conduct, the proper conduct you were not taught by your parents, apparently. There is no authority to challenge, really, well, except your upbringing, which by the looks of things is lacking.

Of course, the reason that you think this is funny is because popular culture tells you that the more outrageous you are, the more popular you’ll be. I believe your generation calls it “pushing the envelope” or something. Congratulations, Lindsey, you found the outer edge of the envelope, outside the limits of what we as a civilized society will accept.

Of course, Lindsey’s friends told her that she was wrong, but she left the picture up on her Facebook thingie – right through Veterans’ Day, so she wasn’t chastised quite enough to make her feel any measure of shame for her behavior.

Thanks to JP for the link.

Edit by NSOM:

Pending a follow up from Jonn, do not post home contact information for anyone you think may be Stone. It may not actually be her, innocent third parties may live there and just because YOU’RE mentally stable doesn’t mean the next person to read her home address is too. Her workplace and work number are fine, home addresses are not.

@136 Frank: I agree that many here take things too far – and I say that with friends and family buried at Arlington. At the same time, this was brought on by HER actions, not people here – they didn’t instigate this. Apparently she posed for the picture, then posted it, and when her own friends told her it was disrespectful, she kept it up. Three bad decisions in a row.

Yes, we’ve all done stupid things, and thankfully for most of us we’ve not had the bright spotlight of the internet on us when that happens. What happens now is entirely up to her, though – she started this and SHE needs to be the one to stand up, apologize, and make things as right as she can. That would do a lot to stem the anger. In the meantime, while you’re being understanding of her point-of-view, also try to understand that of someone who lost family and friends to war ones only to see this sort of behavior to our most solemn memorial to their sacrifices.

  2. MCPO NYC USN (Ret.) says:

@ 147 … You are a POSER! Try that out for size. You would not pass for a Mess Crank onboard a decommisssioned FF!

  3. Just Plain Jason says:

For some reason I am thinking of a comic I saw recently. An NCO is supervising a PVT digging a hole and the PVT says, “what am I supposed to learn?” The NCO says, “keep digging it is down there somewhere.” I think this young woman is learning a lesson that most of us know right off the bat there are certain things you don’t do. Secondly once you get called on it you don’t keep being a jackass about it. So she needs to keep digging until she figures out the lesson she needs to learn.

  4. MCPO NYC USN (Ret.) says:

Frank … You are a thespian that likes Italian food .. that explains everything!

  5. Signal Soldier says:

@ Frank – #97 – “harmless joke”. Was it a joke to the families that have loved ones buried there? What about to the widow, father, mother, son, daughter etc. that was there paying respects to their loved one?

  6. Just Plain Jason says:

147 let me guess you are an expert at gorilla warfare!

  7. Navy_Seals says:

    Fuck yeah Just Plain Jason.

  8. MCPO NYC USN (Ret.) says:

Hey Frank … I’ll hand your ass to you on the Rugby field … Meet me at Newports 7’s next year!

  9. Frank says:

Signal soldier i don’t think you understand my point. My point is, she’s had enough, just give it up. Proud of our vets, you think she meant to disrespect? No, it was a joke. Once again, Lindsey is not my friend, i don’t know her. I agree what she did was dumb, stupid, and unnecessary. But she’s had enough shit. And NAVYSEAL, come find me yourself, what are you gonna do, kill me? If you were really a man of respect that fought for our country you wouldn’t sound like such an asshole.
MCPO newport 7’s, next year? Whats the date, I’ll be there.

  10. Virtual Insanity says:

Just curious how you got here and what’s helped you decide to wade in. Not being ugly, want to know who I’m talking to.

FWIW, i’m a retired soldier, 24 years, still serving my Army in a different capacity. 3rd generation Army, with a son in law school who wants to be Army JAG.

I have friends and relatives buried in Arlington; in fact, my son and his wife live right over the hill from the Cemetery.

It is hallowed ground, more than just about any other place in the U.S., to anyone who has served…especially those who have lost someone in service to the nation.

I agree with you on not posting the phone number and address. I disagree that she should be left alone, but it’s likely that enough scunion has fallen to make that point, too.

  11. Nik says:

Hey now. Careful, Chief. He’ll sic his “lawers” on ya.

  12. Frank says:

Actually MCPO never mind, this isn’t about me and you.

  13. Anonymous says:

i’ve heard of a harmless joke. i’ve heard of harmless disrespect. i’ve heard of harmless mistakes. and how they have all been taken as harmful and offensive. and that’s okay, i respect you all for having that opinion and for taking a stand for what is obviously taking something too far.

i have never heard of harmless hate. and spreading hate is not what the soldiers or the loved ones of soldiers should be doing on the internet. putting the lives of this girl, and her entire family, in danger by posting her home address is too far. wishing for her life to implode is too far. she clearly did have a lesson to learn. But to push the envelope of hatred is worse than pushing the envelope of disrespect.

  14. Navy_Seals says:

@ 152 – I’ll put you in so much fucking pain that it’ll make Jesus fucking christ being nailed to a cross in the desert look like a fucking back massage on a tropical island. I don’t give a fuck how many reps you have or how tough you are IRL.

  15. Nik says:

“My point is, she’s had enough, just give it up.”

Wait…who says? Not her. She’s not shown one iota of remorse or concern.

You say you’re not her friend, that you don’t even know her. Ok. I’ll take you at your word.

How do you know she’s not at the pub drinking and laughing right now? How do you know she’s even aware of her sudden internet fame? How do you know she isn’t perversely amused by the righteous anger displayed?

What proof do you offer that she’s had enough?

  16. Redacted1775 says:

#147 you could have at least posted the whole thing! Better yet:

  17. Nik says:

NSOM rightly took care of the home address and phone number issue.

  18. MCPO NYC USN (Ret.) says:

Frank …. let it go … like I said … NO EXPERIENCE!

You are not one of us … so don’t walk in here Billy Bad Ass … dropping the F Bomb in your first post … then come off like some anti-bully pussy. No one is bullying anyone here.

Go ahead … call me out agian …

  19. Navy_Seals says:

    #166, do you even lift?

  20. MCPO NYC USN (Ret.) says:

Agreed home adresses and the like are off limits!

  21. Nik says:

Bah. I totally missed that. I didn’t take “Navy_Seals” seriously, but didn’t make the connection to that video.

  22. Frank says:

Virtual Insanity i think your getting me. I’m saying this is a lot. I’m guessing she’ll definitely learn her lesson, and that maybe she just wasn’t that mature. I respect that you serve in the Army, and I meant no disrespect toward you in me sticking up for her, and it seems many people didn’t like that I did. I originally said “fuck all of you” and something about tampons cause i was just throwing in my 2 cents. But then it got serious, and I became part of this. I know this won’t do much, but maybe if I can get just a few people to ease up on her, others will follow.

  23. MCPO NYC USN (Ret.) says:

Good night all .. Frank you are a good stand up guy … beer up all!

  24. Redacted1775 says:

    Nah, I drink too much.

  25. Frank says:

MYPO i don’t know if that is sarcasm or not.

  26. Signal Soldier says:

Enough, will be her termination from her employment that she was representing! I am very open minded, but as a combat veteran, I have no tolerance when it comes to someone disrespecting my brothers. She had opportunity to avoid this. This is of her own doing not mine or anyone else that is outraged. This will not be over until she is terminated! As veterans, we are not a group to give up easy, nor shrug something like this off! She will have had enough when each individual decides she has had enough!

  27. Virtual Insanity says:

Yeah, Frank. Wading in from the get-go with the f-bomb and the tampon wasn’t a good idea. Like walking into a gun shop with the intent to rob it with an airsoft pistol, you showed up outgunned.

That said, the legs for this aren’t coming from this blog. It went facebook viral.

I’m pretty sure whatever happens from here out happens regardless of what this bunch of old soldiers/sailors/marines have to say.

  28. Nik says:

    Hey folks. Don’t be fooled.

At least one asshat is on FB posing as Ms Stone and posting things to continue to stir the pot. Here’s an example (

While I don’t agree with easing up on her, at least until there’s some reason to believe she’s learned something on this, I don’t believe in attributing actions to her that she did not take.

  29. marinewm86 says:

Young man for 148 years members of the United States Military have been buried at Arlington National Cemetary. Men and Women who served this country, with honor, dignity, and intergrity, in most cases gave their life. Lindsey’s actions show not only bad taste but a great deal of disrepect. Those Men and Women earned RESPECT.
And if she does not have the manners or dignity to be respectful then she should never be allowed on our hollowed ground.

I think we should file a complaint and have her banned from all National Cemetaries and Parks… That would teach her.

  31. Ptolemy in Egypt says:

Wanted to post the photo of my friend buried at Arlington…died a few feet away from me in 2005 in a little hellhole of a place called Buhriz, but I can’t do that.

Life lessons aren’t meant to be easy…that’s why they’re called life lessons.

She showed monumental poor judgment and immaturity by posting the photo, but that offense could have been at least mitigated with a sincere and heartfelt apology. Instead, she doubled down on her tone deaf, ignorant behavior.

Some of us are so quick to play the white knight and ride to someone’s rescue who is undeserving. Lindsey Stone dishonored thousands with those actions…it’s not a joke when you consider that Arlington is hallowed ground.

Embarrassed for Frank and some of the “Anonymous” commenters here who are applying the victim card to Lindsey. When does she start behaving like an adult and show some accountability for her own actions? Hell, I’d settle for a modicum of contrition, but we haven’t even gotten that yet.

I suspect we’ll see it soon, but it’s too late, Lindsey. Like that tooltruck in Carolina who insulted the double amputee in Charlotte after the Panthers-Cowboys game a few weeks back, you’re going to find out that crapping on those who gave you the right to act like a complete moron won’t earn you much sympathy.

Frank and our anonymous namby-pamby pals excepted, of course.

  32. Frank says:

    MYPO Very mature of you.

  33. Frank says:

I’m not applying a victim card, I’m saying she’s had enough. I’m saying what she did was stupid and she has gotten kicked around for it, and now I think it’s enough.

  34. marinewm86 says:

    I meant hallowed..

  35. Will says:

Frank, maybe wait until she’s made at least some effort at apologizing before asking others to ease up on her. Thus far, she has done absolutely nothing other than try to hide the evidence. Her employer has said they will be issuing an apology, but she’s been pretty damn silent. I’ll be much more willing to go easy on her if she apologizes.

  36. Navy_Seals says:

Frank, you are the problem with the country. I see absolutely no reason why people have to go around spouting nonsense and chitter chatter every day about things in life that are just plain wrong. Honestly, this is such a communist country anyways. On the other hand, at least tonight I will sleep well knowing that when the going gets rough, the tough get going. I’m such a dick. Bah!

  37. Frank says:

MYPO I’m what’s wrong with the country? Look at you, arguing here with an 18 year old kid, making yourself look like a chilidish jackass. At first I respected you, now your just despicable.

  38. Navy_Seals says:

MCPO, don’t be so hard. These things can get a guy down. Feels bad man. Let’s look on the bright side though, America is dying anyways.

  39. Will says:

Come on, Frank… the guy who told everyone else to take their tampons out is accusing someone else of being childish? The guy who said “All of you who commented, fuckoff” calling someone else despicable? Pot calling the kettle much?

  40. Nik says:

Really? Is calling everyone “pissy”, saying they need to take the tampon out, and to fuck off an example of how you were respecting him, or anyone else here for that matter?

  41. Navy_Seals says:

Frank, I’m sick and tired of your bullshit.
Signal Soldier… If it weren’t for all these crazy religious nutbags in our country, we’d be fine. Why can’t a gay man marry in peace?

  42. Frank says:

189 and 190 i already said that i regret saying that. I said it because that’s all i originally planned on saying, because i was being childish. I said it, I apologize, but if you’ve noticed, I’ve moved on from that. I already took responsibility for my behavior, so keep bringing it up, it irrelevant now.

  43. Frank says:

MYPO Now your putting down religion? I never said a man can’t marry a man. I am an actor, i have many gay friends and some of them are very close to me. So I don’t know what point your trying to make but it’s a poor approach by starting out with putting down religion. Just like my start to this conversation was with guns-a-blazin.

  44. Will says:

No Frank, it’s still relevant in that someone who flies off the handle and says dumbass things like that doesn’t really have a leg to stand on when they try calling someone else childish. Not even if you apologize for the dumbass comment you admit was childish.

  45. marinewm86 says:

@191 Because if straight women allow gays to marry we will have no one to design clothes, shoes, handbags…and tell us when we really look like crap.

  46. Will says:

And again, Frank, don’t you think it would be more appropriate to wait until AFTER Ms Stone makes some attempt at apology or shows even a hint of remorse before asking people to ease up on her? All she’s done thus far is try to cover up the evidence. Her employer has already done more in the way of apologizing.

  47. Frank says:

Well Will, i’m moving on from it, dwell on it if you must. But moving on. MYPO you said i have no experience blah blah blah, yet we’re still here arguing. Hmm.

  48. Don says:

    Hey Frank.
Maybe if this person were to apologize things would ease up some. Your not getting anywhere trying to defend the indefencable choice this person made.
It sickens me to think there are people out there that think this behavior is okay and cute or whatever.
I guess this is what we have ( This Country ) become. Our forefathers would be ashamed.
    Just sayin…..

  49. Anonymous says:

Frank, I see what you’re saying and feel you’ve conducted yourself fine after the initial bit of stupidity… we may disagree, ultimately, on whether ‘enough’ has occurred yet, since there’s no evidence from the woman in question that she’s sought to apologize, but clearly there is a line beyond which it’s too much.

That said, this is the internet. Discussions that would merit a shrug of the shoulders and tacit acknowledgement of your argument were they happening over beers in a bar results in name-calling, taking things to extremes and unyielding stubbornness online. Technology is wonderful, isn’t it?

Of course, I’m a pariah here, too, so what do I know?

  50. Frank says:

Don i never said the behavior was okay or cute, and if anyone wants to shit on me for defending her in the sense of that she’s had enough so be it.

My first posts said “all of you who commented fuckoff” and
“It was a harmless joke. Maybe if you all took your tampons out before looking at the picture you wouldn’t be so pissed and uptight.”

That was before i realized the importance of the situation. Now im here, just saying my opinion. No intention of disrespecting anyone.
