Absurd Manning claim draws absurd response

| November 29, 2012 | 76 Comments

Remember the other day, we mentioned that Breanna Manning threatened to kill itself with the waistband of his Wonder Woman Underoos? Well, apparently some of the folks who were responsible for guarding him thought it was funny, too, according to Sky News;

…the chief legal officer at Quantico at the time, Lieutenant Colonel Christopher Greer, made light of the underwear episode in an email, composing a rhyme in the style of the popular Dr Seuss books.

The message said: “I can wear them in a box. I can wear them with a fox. I can wear them in the day. I can wear them so I say. But I can’t wear them at night. My comments gave the staff a fright.”

Marine Colonel Robert Oltman, the officer in charge of security in the brig, responded to the email with the signature, “Sam I am,” another Dr Seuss reference.

During his court testimony, Mr Coombs asked the security chief if it was “funny to you that Pfc Manning was being stripped at night?”

“No, it was not, it was a very serious issue,” Col Oltman replied.

A prisoner had committed suicide a few days before Manning was incarcerated, so I’m sure they took it seriously when Manning said he’d kill himself with his Pooh Bear Underoos. of course, the defense attorney brings this up to garner sympathy for Manning, but, the former soldier is a caricature of what we expect from traitors. He wants everyone to call him Breanna, he licks prison bars and dances in his Finding Nemo underwear, lifts air weights and draws the Code Pink/VFP clowns like flies to shit. I guess the only thing missing was a Doctor Seuss rhyme.

You have to make light of what you’re doing. If you don’t, everyone is always walking around angry and annoyed.

  2. USMCE8Ret says:

No expert here, but as the Manning saga continues, I can’t help but wonder if anyone from the staff, including Col Oltman, will be held accountable for these actions (e-mail – whatever else comes up) somehow? It would be icing on the cake for the defense counsel as Manning continues to make a mockery of the whole situation. Interestingly, PBS FRONTLINE did some investigating on Breanna some time ago. Some of you may find it interesting:

  3. NHSparky says:

Would he, could he, in his cell?
He will not off himself, oh fucking well!
Maybe Bubba can help him out,
    Ass-plowing Bradley till he shouts!
Marines they are not weak or sissy,
When Breanna whines and acts all pissy.
They tell him get sand out of his vagina,
And nobody cares that he’s a whina.
So Bradley spends his life in jail,
Poor foolish boy, go cry and wail!
You shouldn’t act so darned surprised,
When by the world you are despised.

  4. Flagwaver says:

Personally, it sounds like “woe is me” syndrome. S/he knows that his/her ass is on the fryer, but it was the cruel unfeeling world that put it there. Just goes to show what the Give-me generation is like. Not taking responsibility for its own actions.

  5. Twist says:

@2, I couldn’t get the video to load, but read the comments on it and some of them really disturbed me. People making the “torture” claim and claiming that he is kept in chains 23 hours a day.

  6. Ex-PH2 says:

It would cost less, and get him less of the attention he wants, to just put a security camera on him with a speaker included.

  7. NHSparky says:

Well, look at it this way–I’d be coming down on the Colonel’s side 10 times out of 10 on this one.

Assume for a minute that he had taken Manning off POI/suicide watch and the little douchebag managed to off himself. Who would be taking the brunt of the shitstorm in that one–the Navy head-shrinker who recommended it, or the Marines responsible for his security/safety?

    Yeah, exactly.

You are in the wrong business. You should be writing mature content based poetry.

    Very pithy!

  11. bob c says:

shows how pathetic and stupid marines are in general

  12. NHSparky says:

Care to explain, bob? See my post @ 8 above.

  13. Ex-PH2 says:

@12, if you’re referring to Manning as a Marine, he isn’t. He’s in the Army. Big difference.

I guess I’ve known a few more Marines than you have. They are a lot of things, but they aren’t pathetic or stupid.

  14. Joe Williams says:

Think about the shitstorm that would happen if the Navy/Marine Corps brought back the red-line brigs. You might be better offing one’s self. All those orgs would be going beserk. The Surpemes changed that. What say the Senior NCOs and Chiefs? Joe

  15. MCPO NYC USN (Ret.) says:

Quantico, Portsmouth, Charleston … notoroius Red Line Brigs … Not sure about Left Coast Brigs.

Other short stay Brigs for those playing at home that were hard core: Newport and Great Lakes!

God I miss those days … as a Brig Runner …

My last Brig Runs were at Quantico 2001 and 2002 … we ran from Naval District Washington to Quantico almost daily and return.

I fully support Red Lines Brigs … bring them back …

  16. USMCE8Ret says:

Pendleton was a “red line” brig back in its day. It wasn’t one when I was stationed there in 86-89. (No, I never spent any time there, but worked as a chaser and baby-sat “trustees” while they cleaned up the base.)

As I suspected. Poof, son–begone. The adults are talking.

  21. Nik says:

    @ Bob C

    “We fight our country’s battles
In the air, on land, and sea;”

Regarding Sand: Marines train for combat in “every climate and clime”. There’s more to Marine training than amphibious assaults and standing guard on a ship.

Regarding Vietnam: Don’t blame the Marines, and none of the other services for that matter, because of the policies and mistakes made by civilian leadership.

Regarding Iwo Jima: Go back and learn some history. Iwo Jima wasn’t just “a rock”. Losing Iwo meant a disruption in Japanese supply lines as well as providing a place to facilitate American air strikes. Also, the Japanese used Iwo’s radar to warn of impending American air raids.

When you consider the amount of time the Japanese had to dig in and fortify, and the mentality of a force where out of 22k, 21k+ were killed in combat, any reasonable person would understand that what was done there was impressive.

  22. UpNorth says:

Well, therein lies the problem, Nik. Bob C is neither a reasonable person or able to understand. However, he IS a cretin.

  23. Nik says:

    @23

    Ok. You’re right. My mistake.

  24. PhillyandBCEagles says:

For some reason he strikes me as a wannabe and not a libtard. He probably lives in his parents’ basement and thinks he’s entitled to take part in inter-service ribbing because his favorite Call of Duty character is a Soldier.

Tip for the douchebag next time you’re trying to stick your nose where it doesn’t belong: Those of us in the other three services who have earned the right to engage in said inter-service ball-busting might, jokingly, question the mental capabilities of Uncle Sam’s Misguided Children but would never refer to one another as “pathetic” and would CERTAINLY never mock other services’ war dead.

  25. 2-17 Air Cav says:

Yeah, bob c really has me going. Oh, I’m so upset. Boy, he really got to me. Can’t see straight. Throwing things. Gonna scream some more. Yep, he really got to me. Next item.

  26. 2-17 Air Cav says:

Just wondering. Does this pending deal mean Manning will not kill herself?

  27. Redacted1775 says:

Bob’s butthurt. Butthurt bob’s probably permanently DQ’d for being rittard. Don’t go away mad butthurt bob, just go away.

  28. TacticalTrunkMonkey says:

    LOL…Butthurt Bob!

almost spit my coffee on the screen…thanks, Redacted1775.

  29. bob c says:

1 Regarding Sand: Marines have not won the war , Taliban lives

2 Regarding Vietnam: Don’t blame the Marines, and none of the other services for that matter, because of the policies and mistakes made by civilian leadership.

True , but they kept fighting the unwinnable war, which was dumb! and counting coup as if that meant anything!
    read “Rumor of War”

3 Regarding Iwo Jima: the point wasnt only that it was a rock
point was they did not need to lose 25,000 in that period of time if they had fought smartly not “gung ho”
not demanding ” ten-day heavy shelling of Iwo Jima”
assuming Japs not dug in well

    but it was NOT NEEDED

As early as April 1945, retired Chief of Naval Operations, William V. Pratt, asked about the expenditure of manpower to acquire a small, God-forsaken island, useless to the Army as a staging base and useless to the Navy as a fleet base … [one] wonders if the same sort of airbase could not have been reached by acquiring other strategic localities at lower cost.[31]

  30. bob c says:

and I will constantly call a sadistic lying prison guard pathetic. be he convicted LTC Allen west or this lying
Colonel who thought being Seuss would be construed as serious.

  31. Redacted1775 says:

Apparently butthurt bob can’t read either.

  32. bob c says:

and this vaunted marine corp had such great leadership that had to DRAFT people to fight in Vietnam

    (i guess redacted1775 cant think)

  33. Redacted1775 says:

    Corps*

  34. bob c says:

corp or corps – they are running away from the fight in Aland – but they will have a F35 strike fighter but nowhere to use it!

  35. Redacted1775 says:

Yes, the Marine Corps made the decision to withdraw coalition forces from Afghanistan all on their own. DC had nothing to do with it. FFS man, you’re an idiot.

  36. Yat Yas 1833 says:

bob c, where did you get tossed from recruit training? MCRD Parris Island or MCRD San Diego? Or could it be that you weren’t good enough to get in at all? Obviously you’re an idiot so I don’t expect a reasonable answer.

  37. TacticalTrunkMonkey says:

    I know I shouldn’t feed the trolls…

    bob c,

I just returned from a deployment to Afghanistan (I’m sure you will tell me that I ran away, like I had the option to stay longer if I wanted too). While there, I did not see the Marine CORPS run away from anything. In fact, I saw brave men leave the wire (vehicle mounted or foot patrol) on a daily basis. Regardless of how they moved around the AO (that’s Area of Operations, don’t want your brain that was rotted by CNN to misunderstand me)these Marines ALWAYS moved toward the sound of the guns, meaning they always went to where the enemy was.

So in the nicest tone I can muster, in the most respectful way I can say this, with the most sincerity and heaviness of heart I make this statement to you…

    FUCK OFF.

  38. Nik says:

    @30

“1 Regarding Sand: Marines have not won the war , Taliban lives”

So does stupidity. Thanks for proving that so aptly.

“2 Regarding Vietnam: Don’t blame the Marines, and none of the other services for that matter, because of the policies and mistakes made by civilian leadership.

True , but they kept fighting the unwinnable war, which was dumb! and counting coup as if that meant anything!
    read ‘Rumor of War’”

It’s called Duty and Honor. You don’t get those from playing video games, no matter what XBox calls the achievement.

“3 Regarding Iwo Jima: the point wasnt only that it was a rock
point was they did not need to lose 25,000 in that period of time if they had fought smartly not ‘gung ho’
not demanding ‘ten-day heavy shelling of Iwo Jima’
assuming Japs not dug in well”

With all respect due to Adm Pratt, he was wrong and history proves it.

You see, Iwo Jima was an integral part of the plan to drop a couple of war-ending bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It was to be an emergency landing point in case anything went wrong.

More than that, thousands of strikes used Iwo as their launching or refuelling point. They were using one side of the island as an air base while they were still fighting it out on the other side.

And they didn’t get 10 days of shelling. They were given three. And they were given orders. They went into a deadly situation so others wouldn’t have to die and suffer. They put their lives on the line in service to others.

In the end, it’s easy to armchair quarterback the heroics of others. It’s simple, with history acting as hindsight, to denigrate the courage of others. It’s facile to plan and strategize with vision unobsfuscated by the fog of war.

It’s another matter entirely to face down danger because of the greater good. It’s another matter entirely to take the lives of men you respect and admire and know that some of them will die, because of the necessities of war. It’s another matter entirely to knowingly put yourself between your enemy and those you’ve sworn to protect, though you may die.

One is a matter of academia. The other is a characteristic of courage.

If you want to call our civilian leadership foolish, fine. I may even stand with you. If you want to call into question the decisions of military leadership and point out a better way, fine. Back it up with more than insults.

But if you want to denigrate as “pathetic and stupid” those who have sworn to protect you and your way of life, you’ve proven yourself to be less of a human being than person you decry as “pathetic and stupid”. At that point, I stand with TaticalTrunkMonkey in his offering.

    FUCK OFF.

  39. MCPO NYC USN (Ret.) says:

    @ bob c

    As per 38 and 39 above …

    FUCK OFF

PS: Just an observation … you don’t capitalize your blog name “bob c” or text in your written responses. As a trained investigator such indicators point towards three possibilities: low self esteem, inexperience (youth or otherwise), and/or lack of formal education.

  40. NHSparky says:

Master Chief–don’t forget the other possibility: spent too many days huffing paint and model glue.

  41. Nik says:

    @40

    Another possibility occurs, abject laziness.

Some people are that lazy. It’s a character flaw.

  42. Twist says:

@33, So the Army didn’t draft people during Vietnam? I will always talk smack to my brother service, but you are taking it to the level of douche.

  43. Nik says:

    @43

I’m not sure what his point was. It sounds as if he’s blaming Marines for the draft. If that’s true, he’s positing that the Corps drafted itself.

Now, that is a complete and utter departure from the reality of what happened, but it sounds like that’s what he believes.

  44. MCPO NYC USN (Ret.) says:

    @ bob c

As pointed out by my bretheren above, other causes include, but are not limited to: huffing paint and model glue and abject laziness.

Forgive me for the accidental ommission.

  45. Ex-PH2 says:

    Master Chief, please note –

bob c is mentally 14 years old cant spell or punctuate and is functionally illiterate also prolly failing basic high subject matter

Because I KNEW people who were DRAFTED during the Vietnam War, including some from my high school graduating class and some that I went to church with, I can assure anyone who asks that the draft was issued by the ARMY, and NOT by the Marine Corps. If young men received a draft notice, they had XX weeks to report to the nearest induction office, and a great many went voluntarily into the US Navy, the US Marine Corps and the US Air Force.

Those three branches of the military DID NOT DRAFT ANYONE. It was an alternate CHOICE. As Zero will testify, it did not necessarily get you out of being sent to Vietnam.

I sometimes think that the ‘tude displayed by bobc’s generation of slackers could be quickly dispersed by some serious hours doing KP and PT under Sergeant Hulka or Gunny Guzman.

However, should bobc wish to do so, I’ll happily meet the little wet-nosed snot in an alley some place, just me and the dumpsters.

  46. UpNorth says:

Gotta go with #38, 39 and 40, bob c. FUCK OFF. Or maybe with what Sparky posted a while back. GDIAF. Look it up.

  47. Ex-PH2 says:

UpNorth, that’s too easy. He gets away with being an utter jerk. He needs manners in lessons and respect.

I’ll bet he doesn’t know how to use a fork, knife or spoon, sits with his feet on his chair at the table (if he even comes to the table) and leaves his trash everywhere he goes, never picks up after himself, and calls his parents by their first names to their faces, but behind their backs uses really vile substitutes for “mom” and “dad”.

  48. BOB CHITWORTH says:

I cant beleive how stupdi and lying some of you are !

the marine corps leadership kowtowed to leaving afghanistan.

the MARINES DRAFTED during nam – look it up!!

nukes were not needed to defeat Japan – ask Ike and Marshall

so fuck you lying pieces of shit

  49. NHSparky says:

Jesus Christ–he’s as unhinged as Duff, Yawn, Witless, and the entire Ronbot Tabernacle Choil all rolled into one.

Bob. You. Meds. Dose. Increase. Now.
