Chuck Hagle for SecDef?

| December 4, 2012

COB6 emailed that he just heard that Chuck Hagle is being considered for Secretary of Defense. So I checked the news and The National Journal is reporting that he’s being considered for either Defense or State;

Hagel has been critical of the current Republican Party since leaving office in 2008, even backing Democratic Senate candidate Bob Kerrey in this cycle. In 2008, Hagel traveled to Iraq with then-Sen. Obama during the presidential election.

“Now the Republican Party is in the hands of the right, I would say the extreme right, more than ever before,” Hagel told FP in a previous interview. “You’ve got a Republican Party that is having difficulty facing up to the fact that if you look at what happened during the first 8 years of the century, it was under Republican direction.”

Before Hagle got on his bipartisan kick, I thought he was a good guy. Hagle, a Vietnam veteran, when Strom Thurmond left the Senate, helped us get National Airborne Day through the Senate. Then his office called me on my cell phone and thanked me for helping to get it through. So, even when he went insane, I still kept a warm spot in my heart for him.

Then he started his bat shit crazy “Iraq is like Vietnam” thing and even had VoteVets supporting him. In fact, VoteVets will tell you that Haigle is the only Republican they ever supported – which is a lie because Haigle’s last election was in 2002 and VoteVets didn’t exist until 2006, but it tells you the kind of company Haigle keeps.

Making Hagle SecDef only makes sense, since Panetta was the only Democrat SecDef since 1997, so they need another Republican in that office, and who better than an insane anti-war RINO. I’m not sure how this will work out for veterans, because Hagle always made a show of supporting veterans. He left the Army as an E-5 infantry squad leader in 2/47 Infantry, 9th ID – so we can only hope that he remembers his roots.

    Damn, what turd Gruntshit is.

  2. Twist says:

Yawn. You really cut me to the bone with that one. /sarc

You have absolutly no idea where I have been or what I have done and frankly, it’s none of your buisness. I realise that I put you in a conundrum since you can’t thump your chest and call me a REMF so you went the whole S-3 route. By the way I can count on one hand the number of times I have heard REMF instead of POG in my 19 years as a grunt. I guess you have watched too many Vietnam movies.

  3. Hondo says:

Stück Scheiße (@40): I find it interesting that you claim to know you’re calling yourself dung when you comment here, but continue to do so anyway.

Defensive? No. It’s completely up to me whether or not I choose to satisfy your curiosity. Since you’re acting like a complete jackass here I’m selecting the “or not” option.

Baiting me won’t change anything, so you might as well stop trying. That wasn’t even a nice try – lame, actually.

  5. Twist says:

This topic is like a sore tooth. You want it to go away, but you can’t stop poking it.

  6. Hondo says:

Now, Twist – I’m sure he meant “REMF” as a term of endearment. Everyone knows that means “Really Excellent Male or Female” these days. (smile)

It is interesting how the Army’s slang changes over time – and how those who aren’t currently serving often lag a decade or more behind. Isn’t it?

  7. 2-17 Air Cav says:

@54. That’s just it, Twist. He shows up, cusses Jonn, plays stupid games, and then–what? What’s in it for him? I could understand if he were a disgruntled former employee of TAH (!) or if he’s gay and doesn’t like the way BallDuster or, for that matter, Insipid were treated here but this makes positively no sense to me. Is this his idea of a good time? Is this something his Top Shirt dad would be proud of? I just don’t get it.

  8. Ex-PH2 says:

AirCav, see my post @53 above.

  9. Ex-PH2 says:

This guy almost comes off like one of Whipitnflogit’s recruits, doesn’t it?

  10. Hondo says:

Stück Scheiße (@–): (chuckling) Still fishing? Ain’t gonna work, sonny-boy. You might as well go back to playing with your GI Joe “action figures” (AKA dolls).

  11. 2-17 Air Cav says:

Yeah, I saw it, Ex-PH2. He apparently has his targets and they are Jonn, Sparky, Twist, and Hondo. Strange stuff here. Very strange.

  12. 2-17 Air Cav says:

So, what the heck is a butthorn?

  13. Ex-PH2 says:

The key is the originating point of the posts.

  14. Hondo says:

Stück Scheiße (@–,–): More obvious fishing and baiting? Please. Those attempts were even more ineffective than the previous two.

I see sarcastic humor is beyond your grasp also.

As is current military slang, apparently. As Twist noted above, “REMF” has been pretty much obsolete as Army slang for quite a while now. You just don’t hear the term much at all any more.

But it’s still used by wannabees who get their military jargon from old movies.

  15. Ex-PH2 says:

Note: not adept at creative insults — not real bright.

Repeats the same theme — lack of creativity, lack of intellect.

Ah! I KNOW who it is now. Yes, I do. Mox corvos pasces.

  16. 2-17 Air Cav says:

Okay, time to move on. Put me down as aye if a moderation vote arises. If not, I fully support the unilateral action that results in same.

  17. Twist says:

@67, Also, as I noted above and in another topic, that he didn’t know that Marines have Infantry. Something smells fishy in China Town.

@63, I’m one of the targets because I couldn’t stand his original buffoonary that had absolutly nothing to do with the topic.

  18. Ex-PH2 says:

    Twist — got it. 🙂

  19. Jonn Lilyea says:

My blogging tip for the day; suggesting that anyone is a “disgrace to the uniform” will not get you out of moderation. My money pays for this place and if you don’t like how I do things – fuck off and bother someone else. I’m not spending my vacation hand-holding with childish little fuckwads.

  20. NHSparky says:

And dropping (false) accusations of spousal abuse and legal actions ain’t real smart, Gruntshit.

  21. Hondo says:

Hmmm. Apparently I missed Stück Scheiße’s last comment(s) that apparently got him pitched. Oh well, it was probably as juvenile and lame as the rest of his insults above.

And no, Air Cav 2-17 – this wasn’t an alter ego for “The Dude”. This tool was posting from the Phoenix, AZ, area. “The Dude” posted from NJ.

  22. 2-17 Air Cav says:

@71. The two have similar styles and content and seem, too, the target a couple of the same people here. What you missed yesterday was a buddy boy’s crass questions to Sparky. As far as I’m concerned, he should have been gone when he rolled in with his first crazed comment. He certainly has problems but he’s history until he gets to the local library somewhere or borrows someone’s pc or laptop.

  23. Hondo says:

2-17 Air Cav: I saw up to the original comment 66, including a couple directed at NHSparky. Nothing about being a “disgrace”, though – which seems to have been what caused Jonn to whack him.

Yeah, I thought the same about “The Dude” and Stück Scheiße; they do seem similar. But unless “The Dude” has a friend who got him access to a proxy server in the Phoenix area, they’re not the same guy.

I’m guessing it’s just another disaffected, immature fool with an attitude, a chip on their shoulder, and little in the way of intellect or common sense. God must love such; he made many of them.

  24. NHSparky says:

I guess the boards over at 4chan just aren’t enough for these tools.

  25. Ex-PH2 says:

I thought it was The Dude, too.

Phoenix, huh? Does anyone besides me think it might be our most recent poster boy for fakery? I refer to Todd Michael Hamilton (11/25/2012), of course. He is (so far) in Chandler, AZ, which is a suburb of Phoenix. He is petulant, not a particularly creative sort, and may have found out that he was found out by TAH, and muttered “revenge!” to himself.

    Anything’s possible.

  26. Hondo says:

Ex-PH2: entirely possible. His other persona from the same static IP (“IRON MIKE”) first showed up on 26 Nov. As you’ve noted, the geography also works.

Further: the source IP is from an IT company, which matches Hamilton’s actual mil background (IT). So assuming Hamilton is working vice living off funds from his “charity”, that works too.

  27. Ex-PH2 says:

    The plot thickens, Hondo.

Let’s see if he finds another way in.

  28. Jonn Lilyea says:

He still comments. You guys just don’t see them. Calling me names doesn’t encourage me to approve them, though.

  29. Ex-PH2 says:

Lilyea, you are one nefarious blogmaster.

  30. Twist says:

Insulting the owner of a blog is not conducive to having your comments posted.

  31. NHSparky says:

We’ve had history with a few fakers in/around the Phoenix area, so none of them would particularly surprise me, but meh.

If he’s got to go to the “when did you stop beating your wife” card when he knows nothing of which he speaks, the word “projection” keeps coming to mind for some strange reason….

  32. 2-17 Air Cav says:

Must be a shortage of apostrophes and commas where he is. Here you go. I have extras: ””””,,,,,,,

  33. The Dude says:

You all owe the dude an apology, I have never come on here and insulted for no reason.. I bring a different view point and for that I am attacked with sheer venom..

  34. Hondo says:

The Dude: I assume you’re talking about “You Aint . . . ” who formerly commented here before he was placed in moderation. I suggest you go read his comments above. But unless you caught them before Jonn whacked them, you’ll not see several that were equally insulting.

Coming here and making your first comment one that calls the site owner a “fucking moron” (while simultaneously intentionally misspelling his name), then doing nothing but insult others afterwards, ain’t exactly going to get a lot of apologies.

  35. NHSparky says:

The Dude abides? Not here, son.

  36. Devtun says:

OK, so maybe Chuck wasn’t exactly well regarded by some highly connected beltway powerplayers. Following article definitely sounds like a disqualifier for SECDEF job (if even halfway true)…Interesting read whatever the merits.
