Dakota Meyer attacked from behind in KY
I read about this the other day, but I’ve been waiting for more details to come out. But Chief Tango sent us a link to the story of Medal of Honor recipient Dakota Meyer who was apparently struck from behind with a beer bottle and then beaten while he was on the ground by at least three people;
Police said Thursday they arrested 18-year-old Kanissa’a Thompson and charged him with second-degree assault in the altercation, which occurred early Sunday at a facility called Red Barn Event Rental, the Lexington Herald-Leader reported. The facility near Colombia, Ky., is used to host various events, from wedding receptions to class reunions.
WYMT-TV reports Meyer was injured badly enough that he was treated at a local hospital and released. The severity of the charge indicates that the victim was seriously injured, a State Police spokesman told the Herald-Leader.
Fox broadcast news is saying that he was knocked unconscious and woke up in the hospital. As if the guy hasn’t been dealt enough shit in his life. He contemplated suicide at one point. He kept charging into the battle where he earned the MOH to rescue his team, and even though they were already dead, he still managed to save the lives of several Americans and Afghans. If you haven’t read his book “Into the Fire” yet, you really should.

Erm, is the apostrophe a typo?

Unfortunate wonder what the whole story is.

It’s a real shame. No doubt there’s a tale here we’re all going cringe over

A blind man could see where this story is going ultimately and it’s not going to be pretty.

This bums me out. He’s been getting a lot of BS– and I don’t know if he IS a “problem drinker in a social setting” but who the hell could blame him? From the stories coming out about him, I wonder if anyone has HIS six and is providing HIM cover.

Aw hell. I’ll say what many of us are thinking. Private rental. Party. Booze. Trouble. Ugly.

I’m wondering why there is no mugshot published? Does the name tell us why there is no mugshot? Cat shoots a dood in a hoodie, gets his mugshot printed. Cat puts a MOH winner in the hospital, no mugshot.
Hrmm.

re mugshot. the newspaper will print a relevant photo. in this incident Meyer’s pic is more notable. and they can even get the prez in the shot.

Not good. It is well documented heroes like Audie Murphy, Ira Hayes and others as well had problems with alcohol AFTER the war.

@7 & 8 – Here’s a link I found for a picture of the assailant:

@8, That makes sense. I worried it was because they didn’t want to present this as black-on-white violence or some such in the absence of details. If it was a rhythmic ceremonial ritual with alcohol involved, I’m sure race is ultimately irrelevant, but still.

Hey. Bk- It could be that, or just a bonus for them!
December 14th, 2012 at 12:47 pm
I got info from another form (picture) that the attacker was one of Obama’s sons.

There is a mugshot in the one TV news report of the guy. I have it on my post here: http://www.quintonreport.com/2012/12/14/medal-of-honor-recipient-bashed-over-head-with-bottle-and-beat-down-by-up-to-10-people/

This really sucks. He didn’t deserve that under any circumstances.

Into the Fire was very good, although, like None Braver, I spent a lot of the book being furious about the idiocy of the people high up the command chain.
He’s a good man and a hero. I hope he recovers quickly.

I haven’t read the book but I assume you’re referring to the FDC denying his unit fire support?
December 14th, 2012 at 3:25 pm
I think some kid was just jumping someone from behind and thought he would get some notoriety. Hell can’t a guy have a beer and there not be a problem involved? Plus when I see a chinstrap beard I just get a little suspicious.
December 14th, 2012 at 3:55 pm
@10-yep, pretty much figured with the “name” and omission of race and picture.
The media has to go with the party line of only whites that assault blacks are guilty of “hate crimes”. Media thinks black on white violence is no big deal.
Hope more on the story comes out. Hope Meyer is OK. Why is the media so quick to jump on the drunk/drinking conclusion?
Does that justify a chickenshit gang beat down?
December 14th, 2012 at 4:25 pm
I hope they get the whole story here. I’m from Columbia and all I’ve been hearing is that Dakota started the fight by shouting rude comments at young girls and yelling racial slurs toward Kanissa’a and his friends. It’s sound’s to me like Dakota got what he had coming to him.
December 14th, 2012 at 4:47 pm
@20 And 21. If I had a comment kill switch your words would be so gone. You’re both guilty of the same crime: felonious stupidity.

@26. I read that story and there’s much more to it than Thompson’s denial. Among other things, Meyer called Thompson after the fracas and a reporter listened to the conversation. It is not stated whether Meyer knew the reporter was listening on Thompson’s end. Meyer and Thompson knew one another before the party and Meyer stated that he did not ID Thompson as the person who hit him from behind.
Things are not always as they appear to be and I’m guessing, based on the article, that there will be no trial and that the prosecutor will likely shelve the charges.

Was honored to hang out with Dakota at the shot show. Talked with him and come to find out this is not an isolated event. He has been physically assaulted over 7 times, held at knife point, knocked out, beaten by a gang of over 25 people, spit on (by fellow Marines), and even had his metal torn off (again by fellow Marines). It is to the point where he will not even go out after an event or dare wear his uniform due to the negative reactions to him. When I heard this I was speachless, it is still effecting me and I feel that a part of my soul died alittle. I cannot even describe with words what I feel about this.
