When last we saw Ryan Brashears, he was stealing from folks while claiming to be a WWP solicitor.
Officers contacted the solicitor, identified as Ryan L. Brashears, 18, in the area after the caller to police provided a description.
Police determined Brashears was not affiliated with the Wounded Warriors Project and had been claiming to be a wounded U.S. Marine and combat veteran, Chambers said.
Now, that was back in June. Since then, he had another arrest

Who, coincidentally, is doing “waiting time” in a county slammer. The feds have a hold on him, and according to a former friend, who is staying on his list to feed info to us, says that Barwan had the feds call this guy and ask if it was true that he would take Barwan in if he could be released. He replied that it would not happen, that in fact this kid is sharing expenses with his parents and they too would not go for it. Maybe, just maybe he will have a Turkey sandwich in his hands while bent over his bunk on Christmas day up there in that Kentucky county jail.

Great googly moogly. This is exactly what happened to me when I signed up for Ranger Airborne school, they sent me directly to MCRD San Diego. It was a tough adjustment but once they issued us our sunglasses and tanning lotion I got used to it. After graduating from BUDS at NTC San Diego, I got into Delta Force with no problems. You can check my credentials with my buddies Larry and Bill.
Seriously though, why is Oregon such a magnet for these turds? Somebody needs to check our water sources for contamination.

Sort of Off Topic,but I walked into an army recruiter and walked out a coast guardsman. I got out of the army in 1969 in the Seattle area. If you remember the billboard that said “would the last person out please turn off the lights”. Work was nonexistent. In 72 I went down to the recruiting station to see about reenlisting. The recruiter was in Tacoma and his unit, Sixth Army, was located in San Francisco. His pay was always screwed up and he had a very bad attitude. He convinced me that going back into the peacetime army was a mistake.As I was leaving I noticed a Coast Guard recruiter back in a little cubbyhole, and the rest, as they say, is history.

I’m all for mentoring and helping people, but I can’t be convinced that Brashears knew what he was doing was wrong in the past. It all comes down to being held accountable for one’s actions. If Brashears is behind bars, maybe he’ll learn a tough (but necessary) lesson there. Experience is an unforgiving teacher, and no matter how much “help or advice” he gets by people who want to help him and see him change, it’s ultimately HIS choice to step in the right direction.

Going into the miltary with a GED? Highly unlikely. Haven’t been on recruiting duty in 25 years, but I don’t this clown getting in with a GED, even with the repeal of DADT.

@70 – During my recruiting stint 6 years ago, I were taught the TIER system of prospective applicants.
In a nut shell, TEIR I were your H/S graduates (or higher), who had little or no criminal background, and were mostly preferred for enlistment for obvious reasons. TEIR II applicants were the ones that usually required a waiver of some sort, and had to be approved at the RS C.O. level, but had to have (if I recall correctly) a H/S diploma at a minimum. TEIR III applicants were the bottom rung applicants, rather, those who had a GED or had at least finished 12th grade (drop outs counted, but there was lots of paperwork involved, so I was told), required a waiver for education requirements (or illegal activity), etc ad infinitum. TEIR III folks were not the center of focus, and usually those recruiters who struggled would drop TEIR III papers just to make the monthly quota – with hopes the applicant wouldn’t “attrit” by washing out of recruit training. Perhaps the standards have changed by now, but that was my experience.
And no, I never dropped a TEIR III applicant to make my numbers for the month, EVER.

USMCE8Ret@71, when I was first recruiting, I had a walk in with about four different things that would require waivers, to include criminal activity, dependants, non-high school grad, etc…. I was under pressure for that first contract, so despite my better judgment, I gave him that mini-ASVAB test (the one with Mick Jagger), which scored about 25 points. Showed I him the door. As he was walking out, he said the standard “I made mistakes, trying to change my life, blah, blah, blah…..” A week later, I saw his photo on the front page of the Daily Planet. Him and some other numb nuts broke out of the county jail. After pulling off the great escape, instead of blowing town, they got drunk and passed out on some ladies lawn. BTW, at the end of the interview is when I discovered that the highest education he reached was fifth grade.

@77 – Yeah, those walk in’s are the ones that haunt the loudest, which is precisely why we steered away from them. The younger, eager and less experienced recruiters (the ones who thought they could save the world, but sometimes compromised their recruiting ethics) usually got burned when they found our their applicant washed out of MCRD the first or second week – and had to make up their numbers the following quarter.

How did you know I was a hillbilly? If you love the individual that was the original subject of this post, your standards are pretty low and even if your photographic proof of hotness is presented, you lost major points with those of us that consider honor above all. As a previous poster commented, I also question your morals and recommend you take a look at where you’re headed with your life. Maybe as a prerequisite, you need to take that mini-ASVAB test to assess whether you possess the minimum mental ability to make somewhat intelligent posts to this site. I am talking the twenty minute one, not the full-blown honest to God three hour test. Anyone besides me recall that test? That mini-ASVAB was way old when I enlisted in 1981, and was still being used when I was on Recruiting Duty back in 1988. The reading comprehension portion started out “Mick Jagger is a man used to having doors opened for him…..” I guess that they figured if they threw in a reference to a rock and roller, the kids would “dig it”. I would give the same test to the same kids, and after four or five times, they still only scored in the low 20’s.

Nik- The D-Lab was the worst test I ever took, including the bar exam. I left that thing unable to speak even English. I did really well on it, but damn was I at a loss on how.

I think “Victim” and “Extremely Disgusted” is a double sock-puppet/troll. Looking at the internal structure of the posts, you see the correct utilization and spelling of some significant words, and misspelling of other insignificant words.
Looks to me like someone tweaking our noses and trying to make it look like they’re an uneducated dumbass…when they aren’t.

TSO, I took it too. It’s all about aptitude, not knowledge.
If you can decipher the ibby-dibby language, then you have the aptitude to learn other languages. I approached it like a puzzle. Did well enough to qualify for some of the hardest languages, then realized what I’d done and spent the next several years ensuring nobody knew that.

And the NFQT sucked…little did I know that was the easiest test I’d take in the nuke program. I pissed off more than a few folks in my Recruiter School class when I blew through the 100-question multiple-guess final in less than 20 minutes when we were given 3 hours to take it.
See, “victim?” Capitalization, proper spelling, syntax, and punctuation can make your stories really brighten up if you try them once in a while!
