Marine takes down burgler in WA

| December 30, 2012 | 18 Comments

The Spokane Valley’s Spokesman Review recounts the tale of two Afghanistan tours, 22-year-old Marine Corporal Alex Pohle who, while on leave to his parents home with his wife, returned from the store to find the front door wide open.

After telling his wife to stay in the car, the corporal charged into the house and encountered 43-year-old Christopher Schwanke in his parents’ bedroom;

After a short struggle, Pohle had him in a choke hold and Schwanke pleaded for his freedom. “Let me go, let me go,” Pohle’s mom heard Schwanke begging before he stopped moving.

Pohle credited his military training for the take down move and pointed out the blood on his pants and shirt that didn’t belong to him.

Alex and his parents, Kerrie and Jim, held the burglar down until Spokane Valley deputies arrived within minutes – around 10:45 a.m.

Lucky for the Marine Corps, Pohle has four more years on this enlistment and hopes to become a drill sergeant.

    *sniff* It’s such a beautiful way to end the year.

    But he was “just turning his life around”. Any word on prios? A few years back, a guy confronted a burglar in his garage, after he was already robbed earlier in the day. The homeowner had a samurai sword, cut the dudes arm off, and numb nuts bled to death. Of course, his sistsr said he was a great guy, turning his life around, blah, blah, blah… The deceased was just released from jail two days previously for burglary. This being Maryland, they were looking at charging the homeowner. I think that he should have been recognized for successfully disarming the intruder, but that’s just me.

    “Pohle’s mom heard Schwanke begging before he stopped moving.” Best thing I’ve read in a long, long time.

    And Jonn, I believe the preferred nomenclature is “Drill Instructor.”

  6. Hack Stone says:

    He probably won’t be selected for the drill field. In these politically correct times, when they do a backgroud check, they will find that he he was involved a domestic disturbance and can’t control himself.

  7. karlen says:

    They’re called drill instructors youwho.

  8. Devtun says:

    Risky not knowing how many intruders were inside or if they were armed…luckily just one loser with a 27 yr criminal record – 27!!! He’s 43 now…time to throw away the keys,
    but not gonna happen because of money, money, money. This turd will be back on the streets within months.

    Does this put Cpl Pohle on the Corps breathalyzer hot list?

    nothing better than a properly used choke hold to end the year!

  10. GruntSgt says:

    What we used to call making them do the Funky Chicken til it was banned by the PC pukes. Semper Fi brother!

  11. MAJMike says:

    Shai Dorsai!

    He did what everyone of us thinks we could do, but probably couldn’t. That’s why I’m rarely without a large caliber pistol.

  12. Just an Old Dog says:

    The guy is lucky he didn’t do the full LINE training on him. Grab and break, twist and pull, knee and place, sweep and stomp.

  13. Nik says:

    Warms my cold little heart.

    Semper Fi, Marine.

  14. He should have said: “Choke yourself”

  15. Nik says:

    @14

    Maybe he knew the slimebag wouldn’t do it right and gave him a bit of instruction by way of demonstration.

  16. Mike says:

    He’s not gonna make his cutting score and he’s gonna eas. Meanwhile some kiss ass in security forces with no tours will take his spot…

  17. USMC Steve says:

    Drill INSTRUCTOR, John. The Army has Drill Sergeants.
