That’s not a Bushmaster

| January 4, 2013

At Digital Journal, they have a video of the police at the Newtown shooting scene when they discover the long gun which they discovered in Adam Lanza’s car. That’s not a Bushmaster or an AR-15-style weapon that the officer clears.

I also don’t see the officer removing a magazine before he clears it. The weapon looks like a tube-fed shotgun sorta maybe, but it’s certainly not an AR-15 or a Bushmaster. The bolt on an AR is charged from the rear of the upper receiver, not on the side like the officer appears to be doing. The cartridge that ejects from the gun looks too large to be rifle ammo. Again, to me it looks like a shotgun.

But, seein’s how now one wants to show us the actual weapons that were used, we can only speculate. And, I guess Lanza could have had another long gun in the school, but why are we being kept in the dark while politicians are charging ahead blindly with their rhetoric and legislation?

CNN reported Dec. 19th that a shotgun was found in the trunk. This has been known for awhile. Just keeps getting lost in the tin foil hat rumors, probably because the cops have been so hush hush about it.

  2. Just Plain Jason says:

Are we sure that isn’t a RPG? /sarc

  3. Dave Thul says:

Ashamed to admit my ignorance in this, but I thought it was determined that an AR-15 platform rifle was the primary weapon in the school attack. Is that not correct?

  4. UpNorth says:

I don’t think anyone really knows, Dave. The coroner had a presser, or was part of one, and said that “everyone” had .223 wounds. But, that kind of disappeared down the wormhole afterward. Like Jonn said, the idea now seems to be to not show the weapons that Lanza used.

  5. 2-17 Air Cav says:

@3. Yes, the rifle was used to murder those people. The initial reporting was horrible and, because of that terrible reporting, the blogoshere was putting out stuff that had all ready been disproved. Now, the left has done sometyhing similar. It persists in using the AR-15 as the mass murder’s weapon of choice when rifles are used in a small fraction of murders and AR-15s are used in virtually none.

  6. 2-17 Air Cav says:

@4. UpNorth. What? Now you’re sending me on a hunt–unless you can save me from it. I understood that the coroner’s report seled the deal on the AR-15 as the weapon that was used.

  7. UpNorth says:

I think we’re saying the same thing different ways, AirCav. Going by this, “All of the victims of the Connecticut elementary school shooting were women and children, and each was shot by a rifle and hit multiple times, the state’s chief medical examiner said Saturday”.
And, I saw the Medical Examiner on TV, and he said that everyone had “.223 wounds”, which caused me to go “Huh”?
Having attended more than one autopsy, I know that bullets can be identified, however, I’ve never heard an M.E. state that a through and through wound was any caliber.

  8. LIRight says:

The round ejected into the trunk of the car looked like a green shotgun shell.

I believe Jonn is absolutely correct – the action is being charged on the right side of the weapon and “appears” to be a shotgun, possibly with a pistol grip. I also think that there may be a cartridge carrier on the butt stock seen at about 0:14 on the video.

  9. 2-17 Air Cav says:

Hell, all the evidence I need to conclude that the AR-15 was used is to know that Gordon Duff and Co. believe otherwise.

  10. 2-17 Air Cav says:

@7. Thanks, UpNorth. I started my serach and immediately got a headache. There is so much crap out there on this issue.

  11. Thor says:

There’s too much misinformation about the Sandy Hook school shootings. I’ve read that four handguns were used, an AR-15 was used, a second guy was found in the wooded area adjacent to the school, ad nauseum. I’ve also read that an AR-15 & a shotgun were found in the trunk of his mother’s vehicle. It’s truly mind-boggling as to the misinformation floating around on the web.

  12. Common Sense says:

The story I’ve read that has been most consistent was that he had 4 handguns and the AR-15, did all the shooting with the rifle, and they found the shotgun in the trunk of the car.

This is America. Facts not needed.

  14. Cacti35 says:

The shotgun in the truck looks just like my Remington 870 tactical all black stock. It is for sure not a AR-15 platform.

  15. Just an Old Dog says:

A “long gun”,,, Wtf,,, Im surprised the media didn’t call it a “firestick”. they are so lost when it comes to firearms.

  16. Biermann says:

Thanks for finding this footage Jonn. I commented in a earlier post that I thought I saw some aerial footage of what looked like officers checking out a AR framed weapon in the trunk of a black car. Your breakdown of the details in this video are spot on.

  17. MAJMike says:

@#15 — I prefer the term “boomstick”. That’s something the screw heads can understand.

  18. Flagwaver says:

Alright you Primitive Screwheads, listen up! You see this? This… is my boomstick! The twelve-gauge double-barreled Remington. S-Mart’s top of the line. You can find this in the sporting goods department. That’s right, this sweet baby was made in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Retails for about a hundred and nine, ninety five. It’s got a walnut stock, cobalt blue steel, and a hair trigger. That’s right. Shop smart. Shop S-Mart. You got that?

  19. SSG Medzyk says:

You can see the hollowed, SVD style buttstock flash in one segment. It’s a Saiga, AK style shotgun.

  20. Just Plain Jason says:

Honestly, I think that the media is trying to shift from the commie/terrorist AK to the American AR. See if you start making the civilians afraid of the American style weapon when the commies invade with their AKs they will be okay with seeing them….

  21. The Other Whitey says:

I don’t know whether to laugh or cry when the media tries to identify weapons. It’s like my family’s Christmas party last week. We are looking at pictures of my cousin with an HK416 in Afghanistan, and my aunt (not anti-gun, God bless her, she just doesn’t know any better) calls it a “semiautomatic machine gun.” I explained to her that A) there’s no such thing, and B) that’s a rifle and not a machine gun. In her case it’s innocent ignorance. But the MSM? It’s either disengenuous or criminally stupid.

I sometimes, not too often, get people at work giving me shit when I poke holes in news stories like this that blatantly misreport stuff like this. “Oh, so you’re the expert, huh?” No, I’m not an expert, but I can read at a 2nd-grade level and can tell the difference between a fork and a spoon.

  22. USMCE8Ret says:

The shotgun found in the trunk looks like a Izhmash Saiga 12 guage.

  23. rb325th says:

Again, in the days before the damned police held a news conference and laid out all the facts you have the media running around like idiots making shit up as they went along. nameless sources, no one in any official capacity ever came on camera and stated that NO Bushmaster was used in the shooting. It was the media who said it….it was the media who identified the Saiga Shotgun in that trunk as a bushmaster, not the police.
This was the night of the shooting, and longe before any news conference was held where the weapons used were confirmed, including identifying the weapon found in the car as a shotgun. Which that is.
No conspiracy, just shitty reporting and a very piss poor job by the police of getting the word out.
I sure hope this place does not become another feeding ground for conspiracy theories.
