Agenda Confirmed; Mechanism Identified?
“Confiscation could be an option. Mandatory sale to the state could be an option. Permitting could be an option — keep your gun but permit it.”
Yeah, he was allegedly talking last week about a new potential ban on “assault weapons” (whatever the hell those are) might work in NY. But everyone knows that’s merely a convenient “stalking horse” for their real agenda: gutting the 2nd Amendment.
But he’s apparently not alone. As Jonn noted here a few minutes ago, it looks like that “great scholar” Biden is also considering recommending the POTUS practice legislation via Executive Order on this issue. I’m guessing Joe the Scholar is recommending that since he knows chances of getting any kind of meaningful Federal gun control law passed anytime soon are about the same as those of a June or July snowfall in Phoenix, AZ. Even many of his Democratic colleagues aren’t that crazy.
But what does the Left have to lose? When you can’t get what you want legally, illegal subterfuge is just about all you have left.

What I found fascinating about the article I read about Cuomo is that the journalist admitted that New York had some of the toughest gun laws in the country (they do) and that gun manufacturers made weapons that circumvented NY’s laws. So, the guns are still legal, right? I mean that’s what the laws were written for, so that gun manufacturers would have to conform to the laws. But the journalist made it sound like they were doing something illegal when they really couldn’t.
I wonder how many New Yorkers are going to lose their jobs in Ilion when Remington leaves for friendlier climes.
January 9th, 2013 at 3:25 pm
Permitting wouldn’t have helped in the Newtown, CT. school shootings. After all, he basically stole those weapons from his mom.
The we COULD get into all of the inconsistencies of the Newtown shootings. I don’t know which bugs me more.
January 9th, 2013 at 3:26 pm
Considering that Remington has received over five million dollars in subsidies from New York since 2007, it is questionable on how much they want to say and how much more local officials want them to.

Jonn–I thought the same thing until Thompson/Center Arms here closed a couple of years back. This week they sold the property and are razing it/clearing it to put in a car dealership.
Thompson/Center, meanwhile, moved to Mass. I wish I was kidding.

A Veteran going for PTS Counseling, who has not been legally comitted IS NOT reported UNLESS, they are deemed a threat to themselves or others.
Veterans who have been legally committed for mental health issues and who are deemed a danger to themself or others are reported (as all such cases supposed to be) to the FBI who maintains a list of indivuals who should not be issued a license. You can only be placed on that list if you have certain disorders (and PTS is not one of them) or again are deemed a threat to yourself or others.
This BS Executive order crap is stomping all over the Constitution and the Separation of Powers though.

@rb325th
I think part of the problem remains. I have knowledge of Vets prescribed Zoloft, Ambien and other drugs. The potential problem could exist during the renewal process for a carry, or general pistol permit on the municipal level with questions on the application referring to psychological treatment and/or drugs prescribed….and I don’t mean anti-psychotic drugs. Anti depressants could be exclusionary.
January 9th, 2013 at 4:44 pm

January 9th, 2013 at 4:45 pm
@22 MELATONIN could be exclusionary, and that’s the hell of it. ASPIRIN could be exclusionary. It has NOTHING TO DO with the proper concern for mental illness. If I thought for one minute that they gave a damn about who they were going to hurt, I’d sleep better at night. It’s the fact that it’s all a power play, and that something like 80 MILLION AMERICANS ARE GOING TO BE DECLARED CRIMINALS that has me almost sick with worry.

January 9th, 2013 at 5:30 pm
For all of Joe’s blathering about people supposedly wanting to live 2 1/2 centuries ago, I think the thing that really bothers him is that he wants to go back several more centuries. If we’re talking about throwback living, the ideal Joe timeframe seems to be found at the height of feudalism, where the serfs and peasants knew their place and centered their lives around providing for a nobility that dictated every aspect of daily life and society.
Then and now (with the likes of tax cheat Geithner, DC gun criminal David Gregory and robber baron Jon Corzine as shining examples), the laws laid down for the serfs and peasants are of very little consequence to the nobility, as long as they do the royal bidding and properly kiss the ring (among other places). So when you hear Joe harping on this like he did in #21, just realize that he wants to take things back a couple more centuries.
On a related note, our good buddy Josh Boston acquitted himself quite well while debating Joe’s neo-feudalist fellow traveler Piers Morgan. You can see the frustration in Piers’ face as he realizes that Josh is standing his ground and not giving him any Alex Jones moments.

January 9th, 2013 at 5:31 pm
These assholes think because they say something or issue a decree that we will bend over and let them have their way without a fight. They really think millions of gun owners are going to march down to the nearest police station or sheriffs office, line up, sign up, and become a target for confiscation down the road. It’s galling to think they sit in their towers and issue edicts and really don’t have any idea about the biggest part of this country or the people in it. Only they now what’s good for us Peons because they learned it in the faculty lounge. Yeah, I’ll bendover so they can kiss my red, white, and blue ass!

How many times can Obama bypass congress and just issue an executive order and push through illegal “laws” before people will wake up? Will he issue an executive order doing away with presidential term limits followed by an executive order doing away with elections? Of course all for the “good of the country.”

I’m sure you’re unfamiliar with Arlington and a sense of service to anything other than your boyfriend but bear with me a little and I’ll drop you some knowledge.
Veterans are the people that signed a blank check that said “up to and including my life” so that dumbasses like you could be dumbasses. We don’t care if you care. We didn’t sign on based on a poll of thankful citizens. We did it because we’re men. Protectors. Warriors. Fathers. Defenders.
Even of the useless.
January 9th, 2013 at 5:59 pm
It’s a crying shame that when my buddies and I were camping in the Superstition Mountains last week, someone up and stole all our weapons. Every single one of em. We threw the ammo left over in the lake because we didn’t want some poor kid to find it and get hurt.
From the Future Crime Prevention Files:
Report it? What? No, sorry officer. We didn’t. We didn’t want to trouble the County Sheriff, on account of all the weapon theft going on. Dang shame about all that, I thought us Arizonans were such law abidin’ folk, who just wanted to be left alone.
Well, Good luck on your hunt for those guns officer. I’m sure you’ll turn some up somewhere. If you want to search my house, come back with a warrant. I’ll be up in the Superstitions, ‘camping’.
I could go into the historical necessity of private ownership of arms, but most of here are on the same page and understand that an armed society is a free society. I won’t though, but come confiscation day, I’m going to be having one heck of a camping trip. Who’s in for it?
January 9th, 2013 at 6:01 pm
#39 you too! I was out walking my dog, left the house unlocked and dangit if every one of my guns and all the ammo wasn’t stolen! Didn’t report it because I didn’t want to admit to being stupid.
Damned shame.
January 9th, 2013 at 6:12 pm
@38: Preach it, brother!!
Can I get an Amen?!?!
January 9th, 2013 at 6:13 pm
I’ve been camping and hiking in the Superstitions on a number of occasions, and come to think of it I did hear a lot of gun shots in the distance.
January 9th, 2013 at 6:13 pm
@39: Count me in!
January 9th, 2013 at 6:29 pm
@#31, Their frame of reference is the State of Hawaii where the President just vacationed. People are enduring up to 9 hour waits in line, up to 3 hours at a time to 1) apply for a permit to acquire a gun, 2) pick up the permit to purchase the gun, 3) register the weapon within 72 hours of purchase. That’s the requirement for ALL firearms, the waits are due to the large number of people involved. State constitution echoes the 2nd Amendment, and we are a May Issue State (although nobody has been issued a CCW) but they get us with all the little admin regulations. So yeah, they think they can get away with it.
January 9th, 2013 at 6:32 pm

Go fuck yourself.

What Joe doesn’t understand about the military or Vets is that we know what to do, how to set up “command and control” and how to organize ourselves, because we were trained to do so. We don’t need some stumblefuck politician or community organizer to do it for us, unlike leftists.
January 9th, 2013 at 6:55 pm
Like my late father used to say, “he’s like a fart in a gale of wind!” A decidedly proud Irishman.
@Joe is pushing all the right buttons and we’re responding to the taunts…..
I’m curious though….camping and hiking in the Superstitions? I think perhaps camping and hiking at Occupy Wall Street is more like it.
January 9th, 2013 at 6:57 pm
And THAT, Joey is the way it is. How’s Alcatraz Island these days? You polishing door knobs, keeping ‘em bright and shiny for the tourists?
January 9th, 2013 at 6:58 pm
@46 – love that movie. Since we’re Colorado natives, we all know that’s exactly what we would do in a similar situation.
January 9th, 2013 at 7:07 pm
That is why I will never register a gun, unfortunately all of mine have been lost in a tragic fishing accident.
January 9th, 2013 at 7:14 pm
Since, apparantly all guns are capabale of acting on their own, mine decided they didn’t like my wife’s poperie and decided to walk out to the lake and jump in.
January 9th, 2013 at 7:33 pm
Bringing an opinion from the other side of the aisle and presenting it rationally is one thing. Coming on here just to intentionally troll us is different. Having no substance, no argument, and no desire to engage in spirited debate is immature and childish. Typical internet tough guy. Nothing to do in real life, no ambition, no real world experience outside of the 4 different KFC’s he’s been fired from. No desire to learn, or to research subjects in an attempt to educate both himself and us. Just trolling for cheap thrills because he has nothing else. On the bright side, this behavior shows that he is likely too lazy to vote anyway, because that would involve seeing sunlight or climbing stairs or some form of effort which is just too much work. So I guess we should be relieved in a way. You all know who I’m talking about.
January 9th, 2013 at 7:51 pm
@54 – You beat me to it. Thanks!
January 9th, 2013 at 7:55 pm
I tried like a son of gun to get my .45ACP do the self loading and shoot on its own routine. I am damn disappointed in that pistol. It finally let me down. I wonder if its too late to get a refund, now.
January 9th, 2013 at 8:00 pm
Joe (RE #37),
What you do with a pair of Oxen is between you, other consenting adults, and possibly the local laws and regulations of your state or locality. Don’t ask, don’t tell man…

It probably didn’t look scary enough. Try spray painting it black and gluing some scary looking eyes to it, then it will load itself and take over a small 3rd world country on its own.

@58- bayonet lug. It’s all about the bayonet lug.
January 9th, 2013 at 9:05 pm
Mine were also lost in a kayaking accident. Report it? No sir, there is no requirement in the law to report a lost weapon, so I didn’t. Best of luck in finding those things, though. When I lost the weapons, I disabled all of the ammo and took it to the landfill.
Hey Joey, as for C&C, ever heard of a cell phone? Texting? Word of mouth?
January 9th, 2013 at 9:20 pm
Be afraid folks. I currently work at a 3 letter agency and contingency plans are being discussed. This is real.
January 9th, 2013 at 9:26 pm
I tried to teach my .45 to walk my Lab, but since that gun wouldn’t learn I had to take it back. I guess I had an untrainable innanamate object.
January 9th, 2013 at 9:30 pm
Or I could mean inanimate object. Please excuse my lack of spelling tonight.
January 9th, 2013 at 10:27 pm
Well this is a fight that’s been a long time coming, the good news is that libratards hate and are scared of guns. So most will be a non-issue.
What scares the devil out of me is how the sheeple will react and go along with the lunacy. But that’s ok, revolutions happen with small bands of folks who know how to take control during a power vacuum.

January 9th, 2013 at 11:25 pm
You know, if I had any weapons, this would be the part where I look those fuckers in the eye and say, “Molon Labe, motherfuckers.”
Sadly, I lost all mine in a bizzare lobstering incident in Maine a few years back and just never got the time to go to Kittery to replace them, dammit.
January 9th, 2013 at 11:26 pm
I think the part I’m concerned about is those of us living on post. As a commander I have been seeing a ton of my guys coming in to register weapons on post and part of me is like… Are you sure you wanna do that?! But word from higher is “if you get busted with no registration your ass is grass”. If you live off post you are good but on post its required. Of course the CG here tried to make EVERYONE register but a grass roots effort by those who know the law put a stop to that. It’s shitty…
It’s a shame that people like joe, that have probably not lifted a finger to do any one positive thing for this nation, are causing this much agitation and issue for millions of innocent people who want nothing more than to live their lives and enjoy the rights that their forefathers bought for them with blood. This nation is a beacon for the rest of the world, even when we are at our WORST, we are better than anywhere else on Earth. The continued immigration from all over proves this. So as someone said above, Joe, shut the fuck up, adults are talking, talking about saving your ass from your own ignorance and stupidity. Remove rose colored glasses and take a good look around, cause loads of shit are falling all around you.
January 9th, 2013 at 11:41 pm
I proactively destroyed my own before it could come to life and kill me in my sleep before shooting up a crowded public place, as it certainly would have sooner or later.

I lost my guns in a poker game with Medea Benjamin. No, wait… they were beaten into plowshares. No, wait… uh, what was that again?
@61: does this three letter agency really plan on hitting the streets with body armor and bad attitudes? Jesus, I’m beginning to understand what it must have been like to be in Germany circa 1935.
From my cold dead fingers.
January 10th, 2013 at 12:34 am
I haven’t devoted my entire adult life to protecting this nation only to have the right/ability to protect my own home and family with legally bought weapons taken away from me.
Not gonna happen. I’ll put a bigger fence around the place and tell the whole world to go f@ck themselves…..I’ve got more ammo on hand than my unit armory….
….just saying.
January 10th, 2013 at 5:54 am
So, to be the Devil’s Advocate here, let’s say this goes through without any major issues. Yeah, I’m really pushing it with that one, but anyway, let’s say Joe gets his wish and can now service the truck stop gloryhole in a gun-free America:
What steps do they take when someone with a gun, who obviously obtained it illegally, goes and, I dunno, maybe shoots up a movie theater, or goes to a school and shoots a bunch of kids? After these pending ‘executive orders’ are passed, of course. What will they do then? Who do they come after and who do the laws restrict then?
January 10th, 2013 at 6:22 am
My answer, since I can’t rightfully pose a question without having an answer, is Martial Law. That’s what the next answer will be, IMO. For the safety of the people, the military will be ‘deployed’ on American soil to maintain law and order.
Segue to: As time passes, the lines blur. Informants will be commended and receive a higher status, being allowed to cut in line for two cans of gu’mint cheese and shelf stable bread, while the common folk stand in line to receive their one can and loaf, if available. Information will come flowing in, and people will sell out their own mothers for something as simple as knowing they have a guaranteed next meal. To reduce the deficit and unemployment, factories will produce one style of clothing, paid for by the people with taxes taken directly from their paycheck. Replacement clothing will be more expensive, however. Everyone will have a job in the factory. Even if the job is taking the orders from the customers to the Engineers, so the customers don’t have to deal directly with them.
Geez, I need to write a book. I’ll call it “Remembering 1984″ or something like that. It’ll be about an old man with pneumonia, fondly remembering his youth, as his children bring him to the recycling center for the elderly.
Tangent done.
January 10th, 2013 at 8:11 am
@61: I’m not afraid. I’m sad. Sad that we have come to this. Sad that we have allowed ourselves to get to this point. Sad that there are enough people willing to become subjects (thank you public school system).
However, I am also, determined. Determined to see this national nightmare end. I don’t care what any of the 3 letter agengies have planned, they don’t have the one thing that matters; will. Are they willing to go against their country? Are they willing to possibly lose their life to satisfy tyrants? Are they willing to go against their brothers and sisters?
January 10th, 2013 at 8:17 am
When push comes to shove and those in this country that have sworn to “uphold the Constitution,” namely; active duty military, reservists and the various law enforcement agencies (federal, state and local)throughout this country – - – what will they do when “it” hits the fan? Obey direct orders or be locked up or fired for disregarding same?
It’ll be a difficult decision for many but I think most will do their duty as they see it, like it or not! They will follow the orders of their superiors, which ultimately come from POTUS.
Folks, I have a sick feeling in my stomach….as #61 RM3(SS) said above: “Be afraid folks. I currently work at a 3 letter agency and contingency plans are being discussed. This is real.”
January 10th, 2013 at 10:19 am
76…if they mean to have a war, let it begin here.
Where have I heard that before? Yes, I do recall having read those words somewhere…
January 10th, 2013 at 10:49 am
Some would say that patriotism is the passionate love of country that may divide us. While I still believe this is the greatest country in the world, it is also still one of the youngest. We make mistakes, and will continue to do so. I don’t believe there is one silver bullet to help us get through whatever crisis we are experiencing right now, whether it be the economy, failed foreign policy, disillusionment of the government and its leaders, but I’m damned willing to find those solutions and see this through. There were men who signed their signatures to two documents over 230 years ago who felt as strongly as we do, and I think if they were alive today, they’d be proud of all of you. We owe them to keep the spirit of their intentions alive, so this country will continue to flourish, and not perish from the earth.

January 10th, 2013 at 12:27 pm
I deployed in a few months and had my guns in storage. Sadly, before I got home next year someone broke into my storage area and made off with them, gun safe and all. Left my tools and porn, though…
Oddly, the lock I will put on it in a few weeks showed no evidence of tampering.
As for an outright ban or confiscation, via executive order or otherwise, I can see the feds having the same experience we had when going door to door disarming Husaybah years ago. First day the company seized hundreds of weapons (mostly Kalashnikovs and Soviet-bloc pistols, with a generous sprinkling of RPGs and ordnance). Second day we got maybe 100 total. By the end of the week we were coming back in off patrol lucky to have gotten 10 or 15 antiques. Despite our “generous” offers of $20 for info and our freedom to enter every residence the locals got word around quick: if you don’t want the Americans to take it, hide it well!
