B-Ball coach rescues players with concealed gun
ROS sends a link from Detroit local news by way of our friends at Weasle Zippers that a women’s basketball coach was escorting two of his players to their car when they accosted by two armed men. The coach was legally armed with a concealed handgun and shot both of the men, killing one and sending the other to the hospital;
The man who shot the attackers was 70 years old, according to police.
One of the attackers was found dead in the median on Lafayette Boulevard, and the other was taken to a local hospital, according to police sources. We’ve learned that both of the men had attended the high school, and one had been recently expelled.
Police sources say the coach has a Concealed Pistol License and is reportedly a reserve police officer. They say he is fully cooperating with authorities.
I can’t remember where I heard this but; the only solution for bad people with guns is good people with guns.

Somebody is going to get in trouble here and I bet it’s the guy with the gun since he was in a gun free school zone. The two punks thought they were in no danger because their targets were obeying the gun restriction. Have to break the law to protect yourself effectively. What a twist!

The article says that the coach was also a resource officer, so I guess he had permission to be armed on school property.
ADDED: My mistake, it says he is a reserve police officer, so that may get him special privileges.

Old Dog, anyone who visits Detroit and doesn’t pack should stay home.

After watching the video, I think this did happen in the school “gun free” zone. And, the two would-be thieves were students at the school. So, going on from there, I think it’s a given that they knew who the coach was, and probably thought that he and the B-ball players knew who they were, I don’t think they’d planned on letting any witnesses survive the encounter. So, doubly good on the coach. Nice shooting.

This story really bums me out. After all, we all know we’re the ones paying the second guy’s medical bills.
