Christopher Jordan Dorner; Lunatic on the loose in CA

Christopher Jordan Dorner, a former LA policeman and Navy Reservist who murdered two people so far is running loose in the LA area. He’s issued a lunatic manifesto “To America” that rants and raves trying to scare people with his military experience. From the manifesto;
I will conduct DA operations to destroy, exploit and seize designated targets. If unsuccessful or unable to meet objectives in these initial small scale offensive actions, I will reassess my BDA and re-attack until objectives are met. I have nothing to lose. My personal casualty means nothing. Just alike AAF’s, ACM’s, and AIF’s, you can not prevail against an enemy combatant who has no fear of death. An enemy who embraces death is a lose, lose situation for their enemy combatants.
[...]
Hopefully you analyst have done your homework. You are aware that I have always been the top shot, highest score, an expert in rifle qualifications in every unit I’ve been in. I will utilize every bit of small arms training, demolition, ordnance, and survival training I’ve been given.
Yeah, I’m sure the Navy Reserve beat the shit out of him with all of that training. No one is mentioning any deployments, so I’m sure he’s absorbed all of these skills through osmosis by living in California and wearing a uniform near Coronado. He was fired from the LAPD three years ago, according to Fox News;
According to documents from a court of appeals hearing in October 2011, Dorner was fired from the LAPD after he made a complaint against his field training officer, Sgt. Teresa Evans, saying in the course of arrest she kicked suspect Christopher Gettler, a schizophrenic with severe dementia. Following an investigation, Dorner was fired for making false statements.
The woman he killed was the daughter of the police chief he blames for his firing – and he killed her fiance. So there’s a loot of crazy in that huge head, and little of it has much to do with his military service, apparently. Just enough for the media to call him a crazy vet.

February 7th, 2013 at 7:47 am
and the media blaming vets with PTSD and/or evil assault weapons will begin in 3…..2….1….
February 7th, 2013 at 7:55 am
And of course the acronyms make it scary as hell.
February 7th, 2013 at 7:57 am
His manifesto rocks. It’s like listening to some dip shit field grade see how many army-isms he can throw into a brief:
Sir if we can adjust fire for a moment and go red direct to slide alpha regarding SHARP training, recommend a course of action that allows us to go kinetic on this training, then engage those low hanging fruit…
What a turd.
February 7th, 2013 at 8:32 am
At the most, his deployments probably consisted of sitting at customs in Kuwait making people dump their bags.
February 7th, 2013 at 8:33 am
What an idiot. Hopefully he wises up and drops the dumb act, but if he doesn’t, maybe the HRT boys will find him and grant us two successful missions in the same month!
February 7th, 2013 at 8:44 am
I miss the manifesto days.
February 7th, 2013 at 8:48 am
This guy will be caught and kill himself within 6 hours. No way this moron makes it to another family member of a cop. As someone else said, his ridiculous use of acronyms just makes him look like a looney tune. His ridiculous talks about assymmetrical warfare and insurgency warfare is probably way above his head.
February 7th, 2013 at 8:49 am
According to the local ABC station this morning, Dorner has shot two other police officers. Nothing was said about his military service, only that he was wanted in those two other murders.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:01 am
Based on my intel, IF he’s still affiliated, odds are he’s IRR. He no longer has a valid Navy email address. Was affiliated with Naval Security Force.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:16 am
#8 Ph2, so besides killing that woman and boyfriend, he has killed two officers now? Wow surprising, didnt think he would go through on his threat.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:28 am
@9 I’m seeing him in GDS. Dorner is last name, jordan is middle. https://dod411.gds.disa.mil/
February 7th, 2013 at 9:31 am
@10, not killed, just shot — wounded. A later report says that he also killed one other police officer.
I’m sure we’ll get updates during the day, but I hope the media focus on his being a cop and not on his military service.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:33 am
And he has apparently been arrested.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:37 am
So call me weird, but I’m somewhat inclined to believe his story about the kicking. He shouldn’t be a cop, killed people, and I don’t think I caught a single one of the loser’s acronyms, but I’m so prejudiced against the non-uniformed people of LA after 4 years stationed near there that I’ll probably still give him the benefit of the doubt on that one. And yes, I know it’s the wrong thought to have.
February 7th, 2013 at 10:20 am
@11: You are right, but did not see him in the NMCI GAL.
February 7th, 2013 at 10:21 am

LAPD calling the weapon used in the Corona shooting incident was a “shoulder-fired” weapon. The reporters can’t get him to say “assault rifle” but not for lack of trying. Still at the press conference and they ask the same question about the weapon 6 different ways.
February 7th, 2013 at 10:55 am
TWO WORDS:
DRONE ATTACK!
Based on the current administrations policy, this fine US Naval Reverist and former LAPD officer has launched threats against the USA.
Thereofre and in accordance with current WH and DoJ policy, I hereby authorize a Predator Drone Attack on the USPERS in order to nuetralize the threat.
Signed,
The MCPO of NYC
February 7th, 2013 at 11:13 am
If it wasn’t for the seriousness of the ongoing events, his manifesto would be downright hilarious. “Its amazing what you can find on NIPR.” If you could catch the PTSD from attending too many QTBs, this is what it would look like.
February 7th, 2013 at 11:27 am
I sure as hell hope the cops drop his ass soon…..
February 7th, 2013 at 12:11 pm
It looks like the cops dropped two folks who happened to be in vehicles similar to the perp’s but were not the perp’s….

February 7th, 2013 at 12:20 pm
THIS IS A VERY INTERESTING STORY. THERE IS MUCH CRIME AND ALSO MANY GANGS IN L.A. HERE YOU HAVE A OFFICER TWICE. A NAVY OFFICER AND L.A.P.D OFFICER. IF YOU GO TO THE L.A.P.D. WEBSIGHT FOR HIRING YOU ARE DROPPED FROM THE PROCESS IF YOU HAVE CREDIT ISSUES FOR INSTANCE. THIS IS A INDIVIDUAL THAT MADE IT THROUGH THE BACKGROUND PROCESS. SOMEONE LIKE ME,,,,,NO MATTER WHAT THE RATIONAL OR REASON IS DROPPED. THEY SHOULD TRY TO RECRUIT ANYONE WHO IS WILLING TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE AS DANGEROUS AS IT IS IN L.A. HERE IS THE MILLION DOLLAR QUESTION,,,,HOW DID THE PSYCH EVALV AND BACKGROUND PROCESS FAIL THIS TIME. THEY NEED TO START RECRUITING PEOPLE WHO WANT TO BE AT L.A.P.D INSTEAD OF LETTING THE BACKGROUND PROCESS DICTATE/HIRE OFFICERS. THE BACKGROUND ONLY GIVES A SNAP SHOT.
NOW,,,,HAVING BEEN IN LAW ENFORCEMENT,,,,,I CAN UNDERSTAND HIS ANGER HOWEVER I HAVE NOTHING BUT CONTEMPT.IS THIS ANOTHER CHICKEN COMING HOME TO ROOST? ATLANTA P.D. OFFICERS PASS BACKGROUND BUT SHOOT AND KILL 96 YOA LADY ON WARRANT SERVICE. I CAN GO ON AND ON……..
February 7th, 2013 at 12:22 pm
Wow. @24, can you unlock the caps key?
February 7th, 2013 at 12:29 pm
The morning show I saw profiled him heavily, and every shot was either of him in uniform or with a scary black gun. Looekd to me like Big Media, or at least GMA, is heavily pushing the crazed vet/guns meme.
February 7th, 2013 at 12:34 pm
@24, STOP YELLING AT ME!!!!!!!
February 7th, 2013 at 12:36 pm
This is how it may end:
1. Shoot out with police. Suspect shot dead.
2. Suspect fails to show hands to police. Suspect shot dead.
3. Suspect takes own life. Suspect shot dead.
Either way and based on criminal history, all circumstances, and threats, it is my opinion and deservingly so, he will be shot dead.
Let’s pray no LE and or civilians are injured.
February 7th, 2013 at 12:36 pm
@26 MSM got stuck on stupid a long time ago. And it’s been said before here… you can’t fix stupid.
February 7th, 2013 at 1:24 pm
Ditto #1.
PTS in 5, 4, 3…
February 7th, 2013 at 1:28 pm
@24. How did he get through the background/pysch screen? You did see his picture right? I’m guessing “diversity” hire.
February 7th, 2013 at 1:30 pm
@4, served with him and it didn’t consist of sitting at customs in Kuwait making people dump their bags.
February 7th, 2013 at 1:39 pm
@32 Boat patrols between Iraq/Iran?
February 7th, 2013 at 1:45 pm
Everything I’ve read so far only mentions Dorner’s service in passing and focuses on his being hired by LAPD in 2005 and getting fired in 2008.
He’s gone from being a cop to being a cop-killer, and that is what is being emphasized.
February 7th, 2013 at 2:05 pm
He’s gone from being around corrupt cops to being a corrupt cop-killer, at least hes trying to better him self. I really belive this is a MAJOR COVER UP. This guy is an American GI Joe who just figured out after all this time its all a scam filled with corrupt liars and crooks. You where on the wrong side all that time. The USA is a lawless, invading, criminal cobal ,war crimes machine. wake up will ya,and he did !
February 7th, 2013 at 2:06 pm
Most the people talking shit on here about this guy, are plugged in regulars, just a part of the corruption we speak of who lives to protect its own corrupt interest
February 7th, 2013 at 2:09 pm
Seems whistle blowing about a crime ,carries a bigger penalty then the crime mentioned. How insane is that? This is shamefull at best
February 7th, 2013 at 2:11 pm
I’m somewhat inclined to believe his story my self, I think this guy got used up and served cold. I understand his anger, cops are Ego-scumbags. Maybe he just got tiered of being around loosers and corrupt abusive assholes
February 7th, 2013 at 2:12 pm
…..oh boy, here we go again…
February 7th, 2013 at 2:16 pm
Do we need 3-D glasses?
Would you please pass me my pink cammo tinfoil hat, OT? The popcorn is almost ready.
February 7th, 2013 at 2:19 pm
@ 38 … Really. Tel us more about yourself and how the police so damaged your sensibilities and more …
I am LE type … please enlighten me!
February 7th, 2013 at 2:20 pm
Most of the media didn’t print nearly half of his rambling screed, in which he voices support for Gun Control, Obama, MSNBC and Piers Morgan among a laundry list of rambling screeds and opinions on everything from music and comedy to Anonymous and Trayvon Martin/George Zimmerman.

@ SD … what unit and where? Don’t try to BS me!
February 7th, 2013 at 2:21 pm
It’s probably fair to say this dude will meet his end with a 200 grain round – either self inflicted or LE induced. I’d be surprised if he makes it out alive after killing the relative of a police officer, the killing of another police officer, and injuring the other.
February 7th, 2013 at 2:24 pm
Ok, fess up, who kicked the rock that whistle blower just crawled out from under?
February 7th, 2013 at 2:24 pm
Cobal?
Isn’t that the name for the Lords of Cobal in Battlestar Galactica?
Can we expect the CYLONs to show up now?
February 7th, 2013 at 2:29 pm
@41 – It may be Christopher Dorner himself.
February 7th, 2013 at 2:42 pm
OWB, butter please…I’ll bring the hat with your drink. You want ice?
February 7th, 2013 at 2:44 pm
S.O.B. just showed up in our neighborhood (San Diego) a short time ago….bases are on lock down.
http://tinyurl.com/a3f2dze
Frighteningly, the lock down is called a “shelter in place” aka “remain a target.”
February 7th, 2013 at 2:46 pm
Surprise, surprise! Turns out this guy is a left-wing nut, pro Obama, and anti-Second Amendment: http://www.soopermexican.com/2013/02/07/news-media-scrub-cop-murderers-manifesto-of-pro-obama-pro-hillary-loved-msnbc-pro-gay-and-anti-gun-comments/
Now why you ‘spose the media would bury that?
February 7th, 2013 at 2:47 pm
@50, Yeah, the MSM shortened his manifesto by 11 pages. Not hard to figure out why they took out the parts they did.
February 7th, 2013 at 2:50 pm
@ Brockway do I know you from NSW?
February 7th, 2013 at 2:51 pm
He kinda looks like Biggie? ….shit i forget the name of that Rap Turd who was killed in Vegas back in the 90′s ?
Seems a lot of these retreads are making it through the cracks into LE these days.
The fiance (23 years state patrol ) says a lot of it stems form affirmative action hiring practices.
I.e. they take people who would never be hired otherwise.
February 7th, 2013 at 2:58 pm
San Diego? Sounds like he might have decided to make a run for Mexico. Hope the guys at the border crossings are alert.
February 7th, 2013 at 3:03 pm
@52 Su2 and NMBC17
February 7th, 2013 at 3:05 pm
OT! Sorry for the delay – got distracted reading his manifesto. But here’s your bowl of popcorned butter. And thanks, clink, clink, for the ice in the drink.
After reading the manifesto, I can understand why they are going with the cop label instead of the military label – he supports the feds. Could the media figure out how to present him as a nutty vet who is supporting their agenda?
February 7th, 2013 at 3:25 pm
For what it’s worth: Gawker also seems to have the tool’s complete manifesto, less a few names redacted:
http://gawker.com/5982480
February 7th, 2013 at 3:35 pm
@56 He’s been in a military uniform in every picture I’ve seen of him. I haven’t seen one of him in a police uniform yet.
February 7th, 2013 at 3:38 pm
Before my current gig with the feds, I did 22 years as a local cop. If this guy was hired in 2005 and fired in 2008, what was he doing with a training officer? Normal training period is 6 months before you are cut loose. If you’re a real screw up you can get it extended by a few more months but even given academy time, there’s no way he should have been with a training officer that long. Unless he passed probation, and was such a numbnuts that he was re mediated in an attempt to get him up to speed. bet he wasn’t hired from the top of the list either. great job affirmative action, to say nothing of the Psych that had to of signed off on him.
February 7th, 2013 at 3:38 pm
hmmm…does manifesto mean “ramblings of a person who’s as crazy as a sh!t house rat”??
Perhaps I’m just old, but don’t only crazy people have a manifesto nowdays?
Just saying…..
February 7th, 2013 at 3:41 pm
RM3(SS): his manifesto claims the following:
“I had worked patrol at LAPD’s Harbor Division from 2/06 until 7/06 when I was involuntarily recalled back to active duty (US Navy) for a 12 month mobilization/deployment to Centcom in support of OIF/OEF. I returned back to LAPD’s Harbor division on 7/07 and immediately returned to patrol. I worked at Harbor division until 11/07 where I then transferred to Southwest Division. I worked At Southwest division until 6/25/08 when I was relieved of duty.”
February 7th, 2013 at 3:42 pm
CNN apparently got his records. According to them ,he got out of the Reserves on 1 Feb, was qualified expert in rifle and pistol and had served in “river warfare units and a mobile inshore undersea warfare unit”. River warfare units are Navy Special Warfare – right?
Not sayin’ he was Special Operations, but it seems he was at least assigned to some Special Operations units.
More here: http://www.cnn.com/2013/02/07/us/lapd-attacks-mood/
February 7th, 2013 at 3:56 pm
@62- I don’t know, but perhaps they’re referring to harbor security? Had a guy at work here get called up. He was a machinist’s mate, and they had him driving RHIBs at the mouth of a river after 9/11, controlling access to the sub base at Groton or some such. They made him qual on pistol, the 60 and a shotgun as well, and I can see them classifying that as “river warfare and inshore undersea warfare”.
But I’m not 100% certain.
February 7th, 2013 at 3:56 pm
Hondo, we had a guy in the Marine reserves that was recalled while he was still in the training program-I had him as a trainee. We made a special effort to get him through. It looks like turdbreath was remediated given that he was in training for 5 months prior to his deployment. If he was still with a training officer, he was a textbook screw up that they were trying to get through somehow. been there, done that with “high value” trainees. I read his “manifesto” and I just can’t see how he passed the psych.
February 7th, 2013 at 3:57 pm
Derpy…dude was likely not attached to SO/SW units.
Looks like he was part of the reserve Coastal Riverine Force as they are called today (a merger of the Riverine and Maritime Expeditionary Security Force (once called Naval Coastal Warfare)). Couldn’t be further from NSW if he tried.
February 7th, 2013 at 4:06 pm
RM3(SS): not doubting you, amigo. Just trying to provide possibly pertinent facts so someone with expertise can assess. I’m not an LEO, so I can’t assess.
Having read parts of his manifesto (couldn’t stomach reading all of it in detail), I have to agree that he doesn’t seem to be the sharpest tool in the shed. And his deck might be missing a card or two as well.
February 7th, 2013 at 4:08 pm
Sounds like there was a storm brewing inside this man for too long. Stay safe Angelinos.
February 7th, 2013 at 4:10 pm
Definitely sounds like a Port Security Unit. Since he says he deployed to CENTCOM to support both OIF and OEF, I’m guessing either Kuwait, Qatar or Bahrain.
February 7th, 2013 at 4:16 pm
RIVRON 1 is West Coast at Coronado.
RIVRON is not NSW.
MIUW is NECC.
February 7th, 2013 at 4:16 pm
PORT SEC Units or PSU’s are Coast Guard.
February 7th, 2013 at 4:20 pm
RIVRONs and MSRONs merged into CORIVFOR (http://tinyurl.com/aevjwwy). MIUWs and PSUs were a sub-component of the MSRON, now RIVRON.
Strangely enough, none of the original three RIVRONs were West Coast, despite the numbering convention.
February 7th, 2013 at 4:22 pm
If it weren’t for the serious nature of his murderous rampage, it would be really easy to laugh at the ridiculous word salad of acronyms he uses in his rants. It’s like he set out to use every single one he ever heard on deployment or something.
February 7th, 2013 at 4:22 pm
MCPO: don’t have the right keylist and can’t fully decrypt cmt 69. Could you retransmit “in the clear” for us Army types? (smile)

I’m reading that the Celebrity Shout Out section was fake and added on by someone else.
February 7th, 2013 at 4:29 pm
Hondo, alphabet soups sux:
RIVRON: Riverine Squadron (small combatant craft)
MIUW: Mobile Inshore Undersea Warfare (combination of boats, radars, and acoustic sensors to maintain security of a port or other high value target.
MSRON: Mobile Expeditionary Squadron (deployable unit employing a HQ staff, ground security, C2 element, PSUs, and MIUW)
NECC: Navy Expeditionary Combat Command (head ADCON organization for these units…basically if it’s not a ship, sub, SEAL, or aircraft, it’s under NECC).
Take a look at the PDF here: http://tinyurl.com/az3fopc
February 7th, 2013 at 4:31 pm
NECC provides rapid deployable and agile expeditionary forces, made up of active duty and reserve mission specialists, to warfare commanders in support of maritime security operations around the globe.
Includes:
EOD
Riverine Units
Mobile Inshore Undersea Warfare
and other Brown Water Navy Stuff
Big Navy’s answer to getting in the GWOT
Does Not Include NSW:
SEAL
Special Warfare Combatant Crewman (SWCC) Special Boat Units
Combat Support Tech
USCG
Port Security Units (PSU)
The best at this task and they have LE authority.
Deployed worldwide.
February 7th, 2013 at 4:33 pm
MCPO:
One add and one refinement:
- NECC also owns the SEABEEs, to the tune of about 43% of their end-strength.
- PSUs are USCG units, but they were attached to MSRON/RIVRON units with the port security mission.
February 7th, 2013 at 4:34 pm
Thanks, Chris H./MCPO. Acronyms are fine if you have the decrypt key. Otherwise, not so much. (smile)
Please feel free to tell me the same if I use an “Army-ism” you don’t understand.
February 7th, 2013 at 4:36 pm
@ 75 “basically if it’s not a ship, sub, SEAL, or aircraft, it’s under NECC”
Not exactly really kinda sorta maybe not …
The Navy’s org structure is abit more complicated than that!
but for Hondo and the Army guys …
I did not wnat to overload them with big words and complicated non-tangent lines of authority.
February 7th, 2013 at 4:37 pm
@78 …*facepalm*…
February 7th, 2013 at 4:37 pm
Hondo,
Another translation:
MIUW: he sat at Kuwaiti Naval Base or Bahrain providing seaward security for transiting ships during his deployment.
RIVRON: Depending on when assigned, could have been same mission as MIUW or he may have taken a turn at Haditha Dam.
February 7th, 2013 at 4:37 pm
78 what?
February 7th, 2013 at 4:38 pm
I see we have someone who should have been Dorner’s bunkmate posting from an undisclosed mental institution.
February 7th, 2013 at 4:39 pm
MCPO,
I view the overload as payback for having the big green machine inflicted upon myself and my Sailors.
February 7th, 2013 at 4:39 pm
Folks: the last 3 comments from the tool posting from Quebec as “VET H8R” have been placed in “pending”. I’ll let Jonn decide what to do with that tool.
One of them was formerly comment 78. That is what Gruntling was referencing in his comment above.
February 7th, 2013 at 4:41 pm
If the media isn’t shouting at the top of their lungs about the person being a right wing nutjob then just assume the person is a lefty nutjob. Most of these nutjobs are lefties and the chic-fil-la mass shooter that was stopped was one as well. He actually used Southern Poverty Law Center information to find his targets. Nobody is reporting it though.
February 7th, 2013 at 4:41 pm
He’s a persistent trouduc Quebecois. That’s 4 now.
February 7th, 2013 at 4:41 pm
And now there have been 2 mistaken identity shootings by officers looking for Dorner. What a fucking mess.

February 7th, 2013 at 4:44 pm
Hondo … a US Navy Junior Officer (JO) and his Rambo style photos are a bit disturbing.
A LTjg or LT should be back at the houch conducting officer busniness on such deployments not posing for money shots!
As a former Command Senior Chief of reserve MIUW, Inshore Boat Unit (IBU), and Command Master Chief at a active and reserve EOD Mobile Unit … this guy does NOT look normal (as we are seeing here today).
February 7th, 2013 at 4:45 pm

February 7th, 2013 at 4:53 pm
We missed crossing paths; i didn’t start playing until 2005. I ran the comms det at GRU1, was handed out to MU11 for the first MND-N deployment, then back to GRU as the N6/N6A.
I’ll bet we have one degree of separation: James Grimshaw.

On the bright side he has “only” killed 3 people so he isn’t a mass shooter yet.

MCPO,
Yup, us left coasters: office hours daily from 0900 – 0905!
Retired in ’09 when the detailer said no more sea duty for me and I had some rather unkind things to say about her. Still keep my finger in the Navy world as a contractor now, supporting the same groups of bubbas. Suppose that’s why I get so pedantic when talking about NSW or NECC.
February 7th, 2013 at 5:05 pm
T’wasn’t me, MCPO. He’s gone again.

@ 106 … so I will net this one out for everyone to understand in Navy terms.
He was a horrible Naval Officer.
Clearly not supported by enlisted or officer ranks.
He was never promoted.
ENS to LTjg to LT is automatic as long as long as you can pull up your zipper and eat with a spoon.
He was a horrible reservist.
He was a horroble LEO.
He is a horrible person and will burn in HELL!
In short, a dirt sucking scum bucket who in my opinion will be dead by the end of the day!
February 7th, 2013 at 5:25 pm
Per the link in comment 106, Dorner had an Iraq Campaign Medal which along with previously listed unit assignments implies he did some riverine patrols in country.
Also, what were the LAPD officers thinking shooting up the truck with two newspaper delivery women?
February 7th, 2013 at 5:27 pm
Old Tanker: I just decided to put them in “pending” until Jonn had a chance to look at them and decide, amigo.
Jonn’s house, Jonn’s call. I just try to help him with some of the obvious stuff when I can.
February 7th, 2013 at 5:30 pm
Newspaper ladies were driving up the wrong side of the road? Real slow? Near the house they were guarding?
February 7th, 2013 at 5:30 pm
This Army guy thanks all you Navy folks for sorting me out. That all makes much more sense than what the Google told me.
Bottom line – this dude’s a nutcase, regardless of any military service.
February 7th, 2013 at 5:30 pm
Possibly, 68W58. Alternatively, he might have been assigned duties at at Um Qasr. Seems to me that we were trying to get that port back in operation about the time he was mobilized (2006-2007).
No mention of a CAR, so he apparently didn’t get shot at much if any while in Iraq.
February 7th, 2013 at 5:33 pm
Hondo,
Yup, no brainer there!
February 7th, 2013 at 5:38 pm
Erick Brockway-that’s not exactly unusual behavior for people delivering the paper, I did it for a while and you drive slowly on the opposite side of the road when you are putting the paper in a box from the driver’s side. What happened to the idea of positive ID before opening fire?
Hondo-just drawing what seemed to me the most logical conclusion. There are plenty of other possibilities, don’t know how much combat the riverine patrols saw in Iraq.
February 7th, 2013 at 5:39 pm
Hondo/68W58,
The ICM was authorized not just for the ground of iraq, but also for anyone serving in direct support of OIF within the air or water-space out to 12 NM beyond the surf line. Cruising the al-Faw or the GOPLATs when based out of KNB would qualify.
Related: it may differ from unit to unit or from timeframe to timeframe, but indirect fire and IED strikes didn’t rate a CAR for most Navy units on the ground.
February 7th, 2013 at 5:45 pm
Chris H.-you’d still have to meet the 30 consecutive or 60 nonconsecutive day threshold though, cruising the rivers or being posted to a base within Iraq seems more likely.
February 7th, 2013 at 5:48 pm
Chris H.: no argument, amigo. He could indeed have served in al Faw or off-coast and qualified for the ICM. Was just pointing out that he might have been on-shore too – we had a number of Navy personnel on our base when I was in Iraq in 2007-2008. The Um Qasr port simply seemed to be a good potential (if speculative) fit.
Interesting point about the CAR. I would have thought that those would meet the criteria (for IDF, only if reasonably close of course). Learn something new daily.
February 7th, 2013 at 6:06 pm
Hondo,
Too, he could’ve been with RIVRON proper (before the merge) who did river and road security out of Haditha. I think that mission started in 2006-ish.
Could be wrong about the IED strikes, as very few of our BN got hit (at least en route). We did however get lots and lots of IDF, some of which was close: BN CO vehicle destroyed, tentage and wire frag, etc.
February 7th, 2013 at 6:39 pm
@113 As far as the CAR goes, we rolled forward with the Marines, had a SCUD launch less than 1/4 mile from us and go up into the smoke over our heads. Big firefight as the tanks peeled off the MSR and blew the snot out of it.
Patriots launched from Kuwait, snuffed the SCUD, and it’s remains fell in the shit pond at Ali al Sallem. The people huddled in their bunker at Saleem got CARs, the people who went forward and stayed got squat. I don’t put much stock in Navy issued CARs. Or NAMs, for that matter. Now a Navy Commendation Medal I think remains hard to get.

@43 MCPON stay in your office!
February 7th, 2013 at 6:58 pm
@MCPO, you left cop killer off your list @108.
February 7th, 2013 at 7:01 pm
in his manifesto, he claims to have an AR-15 SBR (short-barreled rifle) and at least one silencer that he CLAIMS he paid the $200 tax for the stamp and into the registry via the National Firearms Act.
He claims he got them through the “trust” or “inc” clause of the NFA, meaning he bypassed the fingerprints and chief LEO sign-off. Looks he’s trying to add the NFA’s strict registration laws as being “unreasonable.”
I figured a few that visit here might own some legal, machine guns, silences and other NFA goodies.
February 7th, 2013 at 7:01 pm
sorry for the typo, meant he’s claiming NFA weapons
February 7th, 2013 at 8:05 pm
Pile on SD. He thinks I am the MCPON.
Hondo whois SD and where is he blathering from?
February 7th, 2013 at 8:39 pm
Hes not SWCC obviously.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:23 pm
On another board, it was confirmed that he has at least two suppressors.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:31 pm
I think that or your think that?
February 7th, 2013 at 9:43 pm
SD’s last comment appears to be from an .edu domain in Houston, TX. Earlier today he apparently was posting from a legal firm’s IP address in Houston, TX. From his comments, I’m guessing he’s not one of the partners at the firm. Maybe he works in the copy room.
Have no idea who he is, and frankly don’t give a damn. He’s of little consequence or import, and his opinion is IMO worth the same.
February 7th, 2013 at 9:50 pm
For what it’s worth: Fox is reporting that Dorner “served in Iraq, providing security on an oil platform”.
Latest info is that his truck was found, burning, near Big Bear ski area about 80 mi E of LA.

If it is true, that he owns or is using several SBRs and suppressors (all NFA restricted items) that he claimed to legally buy via ATF Stamp 4s while not even living in the state he bought them as in according to his “mafinesto,” then the ATF is a joke and the NFA registry even worse.
Read federal law, machine guns, silencers, and a boatload of other weapons are perfectly legal. As they should be.
February 7th, 2013 at 10:35 pm
“the ATF is a joke and the NFA registry even worse.”
Uh, yes. Lots and lots info out there. Including video of the ATF supervisor briefing his folks to lie about the registry.
February 7th, 2013 at 10:36 pm
@ 132
How dare you Sir! The ATF would NEVER falsify the registry or sell semi-auto AKs to the very people they vowed to arrest!
February 7th, 2013 at 10:41 pm
Obviously that video of the head of the ATF instructing his agents to lie and commit perjury is obviously a photoshop, just like the 1986 Hughes Amendment should be THE standard for how laws are passed in our “democracy” (not to be confused with a Republic).
February 7th, 2013 at 10:58 pm
If he is still in Big Bear, they may find him frozen. They are supposed to get snow with temps down to 15 degrees.

#35-38 sounds like a Cop hater. Which there are Corrupted cops, but come on. The dude is killing innocent people for retribution. So you are saying its okay to go after Cops families to equal the score.
February 8th, 2013 at 1:09 am
WOW … 11 years and NO personal awards.
As I said >>> a horrble officer and now a cop killer.
February 8th, 2013 at 1:43 am
Which probably mean he was just coasting along in the Navy. Also might explain his overuse of acronyms. Still out there at large, as someone else I think Hondo said…he must be trying to make way to Mexico after he kills some or attempts to kill a few more cops.
Damn didnt get to see the canadian guys post. I wonder what he said.
February 8th, 2013 at 6:45 am
C2/2000AF: you didn’t miss much from the troll Quebecois. His comments were just some blatant anti-establishment/anti-American trolling and comparisons of this guy to Rambo. Seemed to be a pretty obvious attempt to piss people off vice contribute to the discussion.
February 8th, 2013 at 8:59 am
Per news this morning, Dorner is still on the run.
February 11th, 2013 at 12:12 pm
I served with him. Kuwait was it.
February 11th, 2013 at 12:30 pm
C2–even “just coasting along” can get you a NAM if you’re an officer or CPO as an EOT/deployment award. No, you have to be a REAL shitbag to not even get a handshake out the door.
