Admiral Timothy Maynard’s booty
Timothy Maynard was a phony from West Virginia who had also defrauded the Social Security Administration out of about $14,000. He claimed to be a SEAL, Recon Marine, Special Forces, CIA Agent, and even an Israeli Mossad agent to name a few. Our buddy Don Shipley busted him out which led to his eventual arrest on the charges for bilking Social Security.
Don sent us pictures of him posing with the remnants of the stuff that a neighbor of Timothy Maynard found in the phony’s house. The neighbor had done some free home repairs for Maynard based on Maynard’s phony stories and this is the extent of his fairy tales;
There’s more about Maynard at this news story.
Don writes;
I outed Phony SEAL, Phony Recon Marine, Phony Special Forces, Phony CIA Agent, Phony Israeli Mossad, to name a few, Timothy Maynard (Admiral Maynard) a while ago and spoke with him by phone. Tim explained he’s never served a “single day” in the Military when I cornered him…
I was sent a large box of Tim’s bullshit today (attached) that included Purple Hearts, Bronze and Silver Stars, Distinguished Service Cross, Navy Cross and a TON of other awards… It was sent by a neighbor Vet that did extensive work on Tim’s house because he though Tim was a highly decorated Navy SEAL. I also spoke to a local Doctor who did extensive medical work on Tim free of charge believing the same thing. I have all their numbers and points of contact, as well as all of Tim Maynard’s…
I was also sent “Official” award citations any other official military “write ups.” Tim is/was a member of local VFW’s in Huntington, West Virginia, and I believe he stole records from the files of Vetrans there and changed the names to his. I have everything…
This has been going on a LONG time…

February 8th, 2013 at 7:15 am
Great job, Don. Real Vets everywhere appreciate your efforts, as well as TAH, Blackfive, POW Network and a bunch of others.
From me and my sons…..thank you!
February 8th, 2013 at 7:20 am
Phony Admiral, eh? Hey, Jonn – I know we’ve had phony GOs before. Is this our first fake Flag?
February 8th, 2013 at 7:35 am
President’s Eyes Only, huh? Also known in secret squirrel circles as a SKEETRET Document.
And do I see a CAV patch on one of the certificates? He’s legit!!!
February 8th, 2013 at 7:41 am
Another one bites the dust. At least Maynard admitted he was a fake, Densmore kept his lie until his death!
February 8th, 2013 at 7:43 am
May I have the books and manuals to add to my library? I’ll pay the postage.
February 8th, 2013 at 8:04 am
I spent over 3 years with the 1st Cav and never knew that there was “1st Cav Special Forces”
February 8th, 2013 at 8:46 am
I think I’ve asked this before, but I’ll ask it again.
Why don’t these idiots get themselves into a Starfleet Command group, or a Roman army or Civil War/Revolutionary War re-enactment group, or some bunch of RenFaire rennies? Then they could be anyone they want to, they’d get to be in with another bunch of people [almost] like them (the majority of whome are good guys, just having fun) and no one would care what title they give themselves.
I realize it’s a rhetorical questions, becuase it eliminates the possiblity of committing fraud for profit, but it was something I had to ask.
February 8th, 2013 at 8:52 am
Ex-PH2: those types of pursuits don’t get them “extra bennies” and the respect of being a “war hero”. And they don’t offer the same opportunities to defraud others.
February 8th, 2013 at 8:52 am
Thanks for “outing” this guy/loser. All the truly decorated soldiers that I have met are humble and are not out their bragging about what they did. My BS meter goes on full alert when I hear someone offer up their acomplishments without prodding. “President’s Eyes Only” muwahahaha!!
February 8th, 2013 at 8:57 am
Go big or go home
February 8th, 2013 at 9:27 am
I know, Hondo. I just had to ask again.
It’s early in the morning and the 10 inch snowfall has completely covered my car again, and the birds are out on my front steps demanding food. I’m using delaying tactics to avoid confronting the ‘real’ world of shoveling by asking rhetorical questions I’ve asked in the past.
February 8th, 2013 at 9:32 am
Ex-PH2: be glad you’re not in Boston or NYC. (smile)
February 8th, 2013 at 9:45 am
I knew this was going to happen, going east, picking up all that moisture from the great lakes, just the right temperature and wind mix.
24 inches predicted for New England.
Do you guys need some salt out there? Hey, we could maybe have a “bored silly snow day column”?????
February 8th, 2013 at 9:48 am
Wow! The extent that some of these idiots will go to protect their lies…
February 8th, 2013 at 9:53 am
Just how much fraud, aside from Social Security, did Maynard commit? How far did he go?
The contractor did free work, the doctor gave free medical care — I hope these guys have filed a fraud complaint against him.
February 8th, 2013 at 9:56 am
@13 Where I sit is usually right on the snow line when there’s a nor’easter blowing up the coast…sometimes a shift of a mile or two in the storm and I hardly get any snow…but with the storm coming from the great lakes meeting the coastal front it should be an entertaining evening for me here in Western Mass….it does seem I will be on the line of 18″ or so and it will be of the light fluffy variety as opposed to the poor b4stards south of me in CT who are expected to get the nice dense wet stuff…
February 8th, 2013 at 9:56 am
Now that will be an interesting answer…
February 8th, 2013 at 9:56 am
Fake classified documents improperly stored at home. Nice. If you’re going to fake being an Admiral, at least fake one with at least some of his shit together.
February 8th, 2013 at 9:58 am
On topic, Mr. Shipley continues to do good work in exposing these turds. Thank you for your service, and keep up the good fight.
I hope this perpetrator is charged with defrauding the doctor for goods/services and spends a little time pondering his life incarcerated.
February 8th, 2013 at 10:00 am
So Old Tanker, you didn’t know about us? (1st Cav SF Group) Well, there is a reason. We would have had to kill you or commit suicide if we revealed….DOAH! Goodbye everone. ARGHHHHHHHHH
February 8th, 2013 at 10:01 am
Our snow started with light fluffy then went to wet, heavy and dense for hours and hours and covered the steps and sidewalk as quickly as I cleaned them.
This storm showed no mercy.
I spent 5 minutes talking with my neighbor in Spanish while the sidewalk was inundated and shoveled again and finally gave up in disgust. 11PM, my other neighbor starts cleaning the sidwalk and my steps. It was covered right away by snow as he shoveled.
February 8th, 2013 at 10:06 am
If you look closely at that second picture I swear that there is a picture of Tom Selleck in amongst all the junk.
So now we know what happened to him after the series ended.
February 8th, 2013 at 10:13 am
It does appear to be Magnum himself.
February 8th, 2013 at 10:21 am
I have to say that’s an impressive collection of medal “hardware”, even if he’s not entitled to wear any of them. Hell, he even has at least one Army Civilian decoration in there – the medal with the green and white ribbon and the triangular design at the lower left is the Commander’s Award for Civilian Service. Don’t see too many of those anywhere.
February 8th, 2013 at 10:21 am
I loved that show as a kid, it was filmed while Dad was stationed aboard K Bay, mom used to take me with her on errands and see the film crews
February 8th, 2013 at 10:44 am
#24 Hondo–Not that uncommon. Our last director gave them to all the GS-13 division chiefs here. Mine is sitting in a box ‘cuz I didn’t particularly care for him.
February 8th, 2013 at 10:50 am
Virtual Insanity: congrats – I think. (smile)
Seriously, congrats on getting the award.
Your organization may be the exception, though. I’ve personally never seen one of those awarded – I only know about it because I got curious one day and looked up what Army civilian awards exist. There are more than most people realize.
February 8th, 2013 at 11:02 am
Hondo–
I suppose you’re right. In general, we tend to give time-off awards, cash bonuses, and step increases instead of doodads. I’ve only been GS for about 9 years, and all in the same place, so my view is limited.
I’m much prouder of some of the coins I’ve been given, in general, than the CACS.
February 8th, 2013 at 11:04 am
#16 VOV, yeah I am in Westover/Springfield. Snow is definitely picking up. I gotta work at 6 pm when snow is gonna pick up. I am screwed and will end up doing overtime I imagine as my replacement doesnt come on till 6 am. I cant catch a break, 10 days at work already.
February 8th, 2013 at 11:12 am
Ex-PH2,
Are you in Michigan? That sounds like Muskeegan or Grand Rapids snowfall totals from yesterday….
February 8th, 2013 at 11:16 am
Are there picturesof Maynard actually wearing all that crap? He must have looked like a frickin’ NORK 5-star.
February 8th, 2013 at 11:20 am
No, that’s Don Shipley.
February 8th, 2013 at 11:27 am
Yeah, Jonn–I get that.
I’m just wondering if anyone has seen pics of Maynard all decked out. Wanted to see how amazing he looked.
February 8th, 2013 at 11:36 am
We got 0 snow here just South of Indy thank goodness.
February 8th, 2013 at 11:40 am
Does that Sniper cert say FT Benning or something else? IT doesn’t look like ‘Benning’ but it just may be the photo.
Several of those medals are Vietnam valor medals awarded by the VN government/military back in the day. Wonder how he ended up with those?? What a stud…
February 8th, 2013 at 11:42 am
Looks like he has a Navy Accomodation Medal… good for a free stay at the Navy Lodge.
February 8th, 2013 at 11:47 am
Holy crap, there is an MFO medal in there. You have to work really hard to get an award with lesser precedence.
February 8th, 2013 at 12:26 pm
#7, most of those groups have standards that he probably wouldn’t meet.
February 8th, 2013 at 1:55 pm
@30 – Old Trooper, no, I’m in northeastern Illinois. We really got hit yesterday. Nonstop snow from 8:30AM to past midnight, and then it finally petered out. We’re supposed to have 35F weather this weekend — melting snow, maybe rain, a complete mess. There is a plume of air/clouds/snow coming down Lake Michigan.
February 8th, 2013 at 1:58 pm
Sorry, I meant Old Tanker. SORRY!!!!
February 8th, 2013 at 2:20 pm
So I found this site through “Duffle Blog” and then the Stolen Valor link, needless to say I am floored by the stuff some of these people are trying to pull. I did however go to my personnel file via Iperms (I’m still in reserves) and pulled m 2-1 and it is grossly not up to date. How can I rectify this to get my 2-1 to match the rewst of my records? I save every piece of paper I get from the government as well and my last DD214 includes items not on my 2-1. BTW, the new propmotion process for us (National Guard) goes off of your ERB and no more points worksheet (E-6 and up)
On other thing, the people I know who have done incredible things in the face of danger/enemy never talk about it, it’s the ones who never have done anything that talk (just my experience).
Thanks for the great site and work!
February 8th, 2013 at 2:23 pm
nazbom-you are largely at the mercy of your one shop. If you have a good one, then getting your ERB fixed should be easy enough, but if you don’t have a good one my best suggestion is to go and sit in their office until they get tired of looking at you and fix it.
February 8th, 2013 at 2:27 pm
nazbom: I’d recommend you make copies of all your docs that aren’t in iPERMS and go to see your UA – or someone in your S1 shop, if your unit runs personnel consolidated. Maybe make an appointment at next drill, or take a day off during the week (if you can) and make an appointment to see them then. Go over the docs with them, and then leave them copies (for awards, orders now seem to be more important than the certificates). Make a list of what you left, what date, who you talked with, what was agreed to, take notes, etc . . .
Follow-up periodically. It can take a while, but if your UA and/or S1 is worth a damn, they’ll be able to get the missing stuff into iPERMS for you.
Also ask if the unit keeps local paper files or if the state still does. If so, make copies for them too – and check on that as well.
The key is following-up – sometimes repeatedly. Be polite, but do keep at it. If you don’t make sure the stuff is in your records, very likely something won’t be.
February 8th, 2013 at 3:03 pm
Wow! That is a lot of asshattery. However, I think the funniest item is what appears to be a picture of Magnum, P.I. in the lower right hand corner of the second picture. Did this guy use any of the Magnum legend from the TV show to push his lies? Don Shipley is the man.
February 8th, 2013 at 3:55 pm
Ex-PH2
I’m due East of you in southern central Michigan. I live about 30 miles south of Lansing which was the snow line for most of the day. North of Lansing got a foot or better, we only got about 2 or 3 inches so we lucked out….of course my boys didn’t think it was lucky, they still had school!
February 8th, 2013 at 4:34 pm
It that a photograph of Magnum PI?
Did they ever find Maynard’s body or just his booty?
This guy went super balls out.
February 8th, 2013 at 4:42 pm
@41, After you update your ERB keep checking it. On mine my college credits keep falling off as well as some of my awards. At one point I was awarded a secondary MOS in admin, even though I’m a grunt, and was added a tour in Aruba.
February 8th, 2013 at 4:49 pm
REAL DEAL.
Clearly he was so busy last Friday he could not attend the retirement of DEP NSW Commander in Coronado. Many of the NSW ADM’s past and present were there. He missed a great retirement.
I would have put my loafer straight up his sea suction valve if I ever ran into him.
What a Jack Fu@k.
February 8th, 2013 at 7:32 pm
I like his glamor shot pose with all his medals. I’m gonna do one now…won’t be near as impressive as his though
February 8th, 2013 at 7:39 pm
@49, The man in the photos is Don Shipley, not Maynard.
February 10th, 2013 at 10:14 pm
@50
Even if is is the Don Shipley, it’s still an awesome glamour pose. It’s about context… and hair.
February 12th, 2013 at 1:41 pm
What does snow have to do with the topic at hand? Some of you can just go over to AOL and keep out of this forum.
February 13th, 2013 at 10:38 am
Fantastic job! This jerk is sick in the friggin head and a cunning little weasel! He needs four padded walls with which he can spend years hanging all his loot and staring at it until he figures out just what the hell his other personalities were making him do? Sad thing is there are hundreds of thousands more of these freaks still out there worldwide!
February 13th, 2013 at 10:39 am

February 13th, 2013 at 10:47 am
Please excuse the duplicate post the system wouldn’t let it through unless I deleted the last sentence and then it posted both postings anyway? BTW Don you didn’t happen to be a 95B in the service? What about you Hondo? I ask simply because I served with both a Hondo and a Don Shipley thanks.
February 13th, 2013 at 10:55 am
SPEC/SEC: the Don Shipley above was Navy and was a SEAL. I kinda doubt he’s the same guy you served with. I didn’t use the nickname “Hondo” in the service, so I doubt we crossed paths either.
But ya never know.
February 13th, 2013 at 11:18 am
@52 – People who frequent this board often exchange pleasantries with each other, such as ‘how much snow did YOU get’ and ‘what’s your recipe for biscuits and sausage gravy’?
We do that a lot. It’s who we are. Deal with it.
February 13th, 2013 at 11:21 am
You have to be pretty new here to not know that we go off on tangents all the time.
April 6th, 2013 at 3:53 pm
What, no Shellback Cert?
May 9th, 2013 at 7:31 am
The look on Don’s face makes me cringe !! He is lucky he didnt have a face to face with this guy. However it would have been justifiable homicide for sure !
May 9th, 2013 at 7:33 am
Good job as always. This turd has used some major Brasso in his polishing days…I just hope his prison cell “Butty” just loves him.
May 9th, 2013 at 9:37 am
Funny…in all that fruit salad I don’t see a National Defense medal or ribbon. Must have needed the room for more important stuff…
May 9th, 2013 at 2:32 pm
That’s one sexy poser-busting pose you got in that second pic, Don! Just sayin’.
