An “alarming trend” in Detroit
February 9th, 2013
Chief Tango sends us a link from a local Detroit TV station about a couple of utility workers were approached by teen thugs with guns. One of the workers was legally carrying a gun and shot both of the thugs. The news reader calls that an “alarming trend” on the heels of the news of the basketball coach also shot two teens who attacked a couple of his players in Detroit;
The only people who should be alarmed are the criminals.

I think that finally people in Detroit are fighting back. My wife’s family is from up there and they have seen that city crumble, hopefully now stories of bad guys getting shot by good people will start to outnumber the stories of good people getting shot by bad guys.

Alarming Trend in Detroit – tv station employees clueless as news anchors

I’m all for it. If things are that bad where utility workers who are out doing thier job and providing for the community are being threatened, hell yes packing is a great idea. I just wish the Post Office would change thier minds about it. Make the criminals guess, is it worth my life or not.

The only alarming trend is that the cops won’t answer emergency calls in certain neighborhoods, the mail carriers can’t carry guns or protect themselves in any way, and Motown is rapidly beginning to resemble the Old West, and the coddled idiots at the TV station have no idea what goes on outside their doors.
What’s next? Fast draw shootouts on Main Street? Nothing will surprise me.

This is nothing new for Detroit. I know several utility workers in that area. More people than not carry (legally or otherwise) as a matter of life or death and has been that way for 20+ years.

Stories like this make you think twice about going down for Wings games. I love certin parts of the city, Greektown has great food, JLA and Cobo Hall. But outside of a few hubs the city is a dump.

USAF is right about this being nothing new, about all I can add is that most of the crime where people are attacked(as opposed to property crime)takes place on the East side(areas east of Woodward Ave that are not downtown).

Alarming trend of people exercising the second amendment to protect themselves from criminals. Mark me as alarmed.
February 9th, 2013 at 12:26 pm
The only reason they are alarmed is because Obama supporters are getting shot. Can’t have that.
February 9th, 2013 at 12:30 pm
Imagine that. People defending themselves from thugs.

Oops, well as for the postal sevice workers. I do believe that the pony express carried. What has changed?
February 9th, 2013 at 1:23 pm
“Whatcha doing?” “Nothing much, making bad people go away.”
February 9th, 2013 at 1:23 pm
#12 a removal of the nation’s spine with almost surgical precision by people picked on too much as children, but too unmotivated to better themselves. Instead, they drag everyone around them down. Or pathetic attempts at power grabs by people that couldn’t find their ass with both hands. Take your pick

Alarming Trend:
More bad guys shot, less good guys hurt.
That’s a trend I could live with.

most situations can be summed up with an applicable movie quote. “History of the World, Part 1″ provides one for this story.
“Sire the peasants are revolting”
No longer are the peasants/citizens buying into the media/liberal/Democrat/moron (but I repeat myself) proposition that guns are evil.

@9- Just because they’re dead doesn’t mean they can’t vote for Fearless Leader.
February 9th, 2013 at 5:04 pm
OWB, watch out you will draw the ire of sippy for using a blatant “code word”!
February 9th, 2013 at 5:11 pm
Hilarious, isn’t it, J? Or it would be if it weren’t so pathetic.
February 9th, 2013 at 5:31 pm
@17- This is Detroit, not Chicago. Not saying it doesn’t happen in Detroit, but it wouldn’t be on the scale that it happens in Chi-town!
February 9th, 2013 at 9:13 pm
Well, USAF, Detroit had 386 murders in 2012, Chicago had more than 500, yet Chicago has just about 3 times Detroit’s population. So, I do believe that Detroit homicides, proportionally, are on the scale that it happens in Chicago.
February 9th, 2013 at 9:24 pm
This is great argument over which sh!t hole is better: Chicago or Detroit?
Not that is friggin’ priceless!
February 9th, 2013 at 9:24 pm
Dead people vote multiple times because they can’t be charged with fraud. Philly perfected it.
February 9th, 2013 at 9:49 pm
MCPO, obviously Chicago is better. Less than one-tenth of the decrepit and abandoned buildings in Chicago have been knocked down or set on fire by squatters. Detroit has big, empty spots in it everywhere.
Detroit has packs of feral dogs and a beaver. Chicago has packs of coyotes, plus possums, raccoons, and a complete herd of white-tail deer.
Detroit still has a hockey team and a football team. Chicago has Bulls, Bears, Cubs, Sox, Blackhawks, Fire, and a ractrack.
February 9th, 2013 at 9:58 pm
Yeah, but Detroit has a great airport terminal building with “Family Restrooms” with signs in Arabic! Among other things.
February 9th, 2013 at 10:06 pm
Touché!
February 9th, 2013 at 10:16 pm
Chicago it is!
February 9th, 2013 at 10:35 pm
EX, don’t forget, both cities have packs of feral youtes.
February 10th, 2013 at 1:22 pm
A utility worker who believes in gun control. All hits on target. Well Done!
February 10th, 2013 at 2:54 pm
@28 – UpNorth, you’re right. I did leave out the feral youtes. Sorry.

So much for the “Fight Thugs with Hugs” program
