Imperial Presidency

| May 16, 2013

Gunzrunner and Flagwaver sent us this video;

It’s been cloudy and sprinkling all day since sun-up here in the Metro DC area, you’d think someone would have thought to put a tarp up if the President and the Turkish Prime Minister were going to have a press conference outside today. But then, they had umbrellas ready for the Marines to hold, so I guess that was their plan all along. I don’t know about the Marine Corps, but when I left the Army, umbrellas weren’t authorized while a man was in uniform (I think women could carry an umbrella, though).

Regardless, it just doesn’t look good to me, but maybe that’s me and I’m sure someone is going to tell me I’m nitpicking, but this is an opinion blog and that’s my opinion.

ADDED: This is probably why he needs someone else to hold the umbrellas, it’s a pretty complicated operation, ya know;

  1. Mike says:

The CIC has no understanding of what it takes to be a Marine.
    That’s insulting.

  2. Ken says:

Obama is an America hater. Therefore, it stands to reason that he would have no problem at all humiliating the Marines, or any other branch of service. That doesn’t make him any less the piece-of-shit sock puppet we all know he is.

  3. Neal says:

On a more positive note, when I first saw pictures from a distance the position of the Marines’ hands not holding the umbrellas, coupled with their white belts looked like they were giving giant fingers to Obama and the Prime Minister. 🙂

  4. PintoNag says:

“Who’s the guy standing next to that fine Marine?”

  5. PintoNag says:

I just had to say that, because even though the picture is centered, it’s the MARINE that the eye is drawn to, not to the guy under the umbrella.

  6. Ex-PH2 says:

    @105 – Ditto.

  7. EnTeaJay says:

I cannot conceive why the hell those Marines degraded themselves to that degree. They should have pointblank REFUSED the humiliation, not only to themselves personally, but most of all to the uniform and what it represents. Or, should I say what it USED to represent. But since the leadership (old “Betrayus” – the lefties never knew how right they were! – and the other brass SOBs) has allowed these AHs to totally gut the military’s right to defend themselves on the battlefield, have opened the doors to a total takeover by the gay lobby of the military, why should we be surprised at this additional mark of complete disrespect?? How much longer are we- and most of all our men in uniform- are going to stand for this?? BTW, have ANY military leaders gone on record to protest this? Course not. Gotta defend those pensions!

  8. March113 says:

As a former active duty Marine. That was an unlawful order. I am torn if I should respect that Marines decision to hold that umbrella. The proper response should have been. Sir, I am sorry Sir. But I can not follow that order Sir. Salute and turn and return to post.

  11. Ex-PH2 says:

    Uh… what?????

    Interpreter, please check in ASAP!

  12. rb325th says:

Ahhh the junior high crowd found its way in.

  13. Ex-PH2 says:

RB, are you sure they’re smart enough to be in junior high?

  14. Joe Williams says:

Same situation,a O orders an NCO to do the same as His Kingship. Two career ending words =Personal Servantude.

  15. rb325th says:

Ex-PH2, Jr High was being overly generous on my part.

  16. Ex-PH2 says:

Yes, I thought you were being very generous.

Happy Armed Forces Day, RB, and Joe W.

I’d sure like to send those two Marines a sympathy card.

  17. NHSparky says:

@110/111–Poor kid. Are you still butthurt when the recruiter threw you out of the office cause you couldn’t pass the 20-minute practice ASVAB after four hours?

Newsflash, sonny–you’re not worthy of holding the jocks of those Marines. Sleep well knowing your betters are picking up your slack.

  18. rb325th says:

    Same back to you Ex!!

  19. Truthiness says:

Guess none of you tough guys were smart enough to see if any Republican Presidents would “disgrace” the Marines. Because by my count, here’s a picture of Reagan, Bush and Bush ALL disgracing the Marines by making them hold umbrellas:

So ACTUALLY I guess you all are just aholes.

  20. NHSparky says:

Seems to me I don’t recall DEMANDING they hold the umbrella, scooter. I also don’t seem to recall a President or staff not having the foresight to move a presser indoors. Does nobody on Penn. Ave. read a fucking weather report?

But you keep trying, son. You might have a future at the fryolator if you suck up to the night manager long enough.

  21. NHSparky says:

Oh, and for the record, dumbshit–who’s holding the umbrella for President Reagan again? Point the second, Army regulations DO permit the use of umbrellas in uniform. Marine regs do not for male service members.

Now back to Kos with you, shitbag.

  22. Sparks says:

@120 I don’t give a shit who the POTUS is, it is wrong to have a Marine/Soldier hold an umbrella. There are aides and staffers falling all over themselves to kiss ass who could do that job. Don’t know if you served in the military but for those of us who did it is wrong, against Regs and inappropriate of anyone, President, military officer or whomever to ask this of a serviceman. So if that makes me a tough guy acting like an ass hole (your words)…then at least I hope I stand up to inspection doing it!

  23. Ex-PH2 says:

@ 120 — Apparently, you’re blind as well as stupid.

That’s Secret Service holding Reagan’s umbrella. Army w/umbrella Bush 1 and Bush 2. Neither Bush umbrella person is Marines. But then, you’re ignorant of the difference, so your point is nil.

  24. OWB says:

Ooh, ooh, oooh! PH!! I think I can translate 110/111 for you:

    “Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.”

  25. Fang says:

I couldn’t agree more with Sparks123!! I’m a 28 year Navy Veteran and that display of Marine “unbrella duty” was a slap in the face not only to Marines but Sailors and all military members! There’s no shortage of butt kissing staffer and useless Czars yet he picks the Marines for this shit – WTFO shipmates??!!

  26. Ex-PH2 says:

OWB, I’ll bite: what IS that marone tryng to say?

  27. Green Thumb says:

    Welcome to the Old Guard.

  28. Veritas Omnia Vincit says:

@122 don’t you just love the 4ssclowns who try to school you and don’t have a f#cking clue what they are talking about.

Yes I am referring to you “truthiness”, you’re so lazy you can’t be bothered to see if the 4ssholes who sent you that photo even checked it to see if the point they were trying to make was valid, here’s a clue: it’s not, before running to a website where people who actually served this nation and actually know the regs and attempting to make a point with your silly 4ss photo.

Not sure what public school f#cked you out of your education but you might want to head back there and discuss that with whatever passes for an administrator these days.

In the future remember a simple rule and it will keep people from discovering what a complete and total 4sshole you are, before you rant about sh1t beyond your comprehension just STFU. At least that way no one will be alerted to what a lazy, ignorant numb nuts you really are.

  29. malclave says:

Does nobody on Penn. Ave. read a fucking weather report?
The President was unaware it was raining until he saw it in the news reports later that night.

  30. Nik says:

I understand he had to be forcibly restrained from calling a press conference blaming it on the Bush Administration.

  31. malclave says:

The LA Times has discovered that the head of the DC branch of the National Weather Service will be asserting her 5th Amendment rights rather than discuss when she knew it would rain.

  32. Nik says:

I’ve heard they aren’t releasing the names of the 30-ish witnesses to the incident and won’t let them testify before Congress on the matter.
