Starbuck’s gun control policy fails

| December 23, 2013 | 16 Comments

You remember how a few months ago Starbucks asked it’s law abiding customers to leave their guns at home when they buy the over-priced, over-roasted yuppie beverages, right? Well, I hate to engage in a bit of schadenfreude, but it appears that folks who aren’t abiding by that policy, aren’t the law-abiding types, at least not in Colorado Springs;

Police are searching for a man who held up at Colorado Springs Starbucks Sunday morning.

Employees told officers that after the suspect walled in, he pulled out a gun and demanded money from the register. He left after employees gave him money. No one was injured.

The suspect is described as a black man in his early-to-mid 20s, slim and about 6 feet tall to 6-foot-2. He was dressed in all black. Police say he may have left the area in a black Subaru-style vehicle.

If only there was someway to make the criminals obey the store’s policies….

The power of policies is almost as strong as the power of signs.

    And laws.

Well we have a way to keep them from repeating these crimes, we just don’t like to use it very often….dead criminals have a hell of time being repeat offenders.

WHAT?! ALL those Gun Control laws in place, and criminals STILL don’t obey them? PERISH THE THOUGHT! WE NEED to outlaw Armed Robbery, yeah, that’ll stop them!! OH, and we need to outlaw felons possessing firearms and ammo, too! Yeah, that will stop them!!!

    /sarc, of course!!

So far I haven’t missed going to Starbuck’s at all. Well, maybe that’s because I wasn’t a customer before this new policy? Coffee that tastes like the grounds have been soaked in used motor oil? No, thanks.

But, this is an amusing little story.

    Criminals – 1, Starbuck’s – 0

In September, Mr. Howard Schultz (Starbucks CEO) wrote:

For these reasons, today we are respectfully requesting that customers no longer bring firearms into our stores or outdoor seating areas — even in states where “open carry” is permitted — unless they are authorized law enforcement personnel.

Since this guy didn’t order coffee or food (thus making himself into a customer) and since he was (apparently) not law enforcement he followed the store rules. So we should all feel better because he respected the store rule and only broke the law against armed robbery.

    See? Isn’t that easy?

FWIW, if I picked the right store, it is a couple miles from Peterson AFB, the home of Northcom and a bunch of other interesting stuff and a couple of miles from Ft Carson, home of 4ID and a bunch of other interesting units. Of course, people in uniform respect rules (mostly).

A black man dressed in black driving a black SUV holds up a place that serves black coffee. Hmmm…. Was the gun black?

    Just asking.

@11. Probably not, he wanted a little contrast with his outfit, he went with Stainless.

@9 Jarhead Pat, ROTFLMAO! Thanks for the jollies. I wonder if he got his Grande, Salted, Caramel, Mocha before he left. Still LMAO!

What would they do if a patron stopped the robbery, tell the patron to leave?

    Just something to consider.

    Sign in Starbucks
Non-criminals with carry permits are not welcome.
criminals – we thank you for your patronage.

  16. Jason says:

No way! Starbucks has a no-gun policy. Didn’t the robber see the sign or did he just ignore it since we all know that criminals are the only ones who obey the law.
