More liberal media misinformation….

| January 8, 2017

Over at American Thinker, editor, Thomas Lifson, reports on a very misleading report by CBS Radio about the recent racial attack in Chicago by four black “yutes” on a mentally disabled, young white man:

In the brief Thursday morning report– which attracted attention when a listener posted the clip on Reddit Friday– here’s how CBS characterized the attack:

The viral video of a beating and knife attack in Chicago suggests the assault had racial overtones. CBS’s Dean Reynolds tells us the victim is described as a mentally-challenged teenager.

In the video he is choked and repeatedly called the n-word. His clothes are slashed and he is terrorized with a knife. His alleged captors repeatedly reference Donald Trump. Police are holding four people in connection with the attack. [Emphasis added by Mediaite]

The report is technically correct, but widely misleading. By noting the attackers used the n-word during a racially-motivated attack while “referencing” Donald Trump, the clear implication is that the victim was black and his attackers were racist Trump fans.

Now we have some fairly sharp readers here at TAH, folks at accomplished at separating truth from fiction, the purpose of the site in fact, and yet I’ll wager that almost every one of you who heard nothing more than this report:

In the video he is choked and repeatedly called the n-word. His clothes are slashed and he is terrorized with a knife. His alleged captors repeatedly reference Donald Trump. Police are holding four people in connection with the attack.

Would be fairly sure that the victim was black and the yutes were white, right? And that, folks, is precisely why why ol’ Poe believes American journalism needs to be thoroughly and completely purged, from high school journalism teachers right on through college journalism departments up to and including the highest positions in the media news industry.

And folks wonder why Trump tweets and goes completely around the media when possible….

    • Mason says:

Almost like FDR’s fireside chats…Except Trump is evil and forgets that the media is “there to protect him” (as they said when he was callous enough to go to dinner without inviting them).

Rabid liberal does it; what a triumphant victory for the working man, fighting the system from within.

Conservative does it; paint the man/woman with a villainous brush.

  2. Valerie says:

And Democrats wonder why people disbelieve Democratic-colluding-media reports, and go directly to Trump tweets, or videos.

  3. Ex-PH2 says:

Hmmm…. the local news stations all emphasized that the ‘teens’ were visible in the videos, they clearly were blacks, and the video clearly shows that the victim is white.

The insults thrown at him were barely comprehensible, as the audio portion was very bad and I despise it enough to not want to do a microscopic sound bite analysis on it, but the captions provided by WGN clearly indicate that the four of them were yelling “Fuck Trump” and “Fuck whites”.

So if CBS cannot call a spade a spade, but has to misdirect its viewers by implying other than the truth, it’s time CBS went into the toilet in ratings. Or has that already happened? I don’t see the point in its existence any more as a news source. Even Reuters, which is mostly liberal, has made it clear that the victim is white and the assailants were blacks.

They’ve all been charged with a hate crime, among other things – there’s a list – and were being held without bail.

If CBS refuses to face the truth, it has a problem.

I guess the Communist Broadcasting System assumes no one who matters will call them on it.

In addition to the Stolen Valor tournament, maybe we need a “Baghdad Bob” award.

Keep tweeting, Mr Trump. Grind their noses in powerlessness and obsolescence.

    • Inbred Redneck says:

I’ll second that “Baghdad Bob” tourney. Can we go back and start with last year’s stories?

  5. Ret_25X says:

When I was in college (back in the dark ages of 1980-85) we rated journalism majors below poli-sci and even faux sciences (psych, socialism…errr….sociology, etc).

It was clear even back then that these majors (along with education) were nothing more than an apprenticeship program for low paying careers.

We got what we paid for I guess….

  6. Perry Gaskill says:

Dunno, PT. Personally, I tend to go with the idea that you should not chalk up to conspiracy theory that which can be explained by incompetence. It might be worth pointing out that one of the worse trends going on in journalism these days is the idea that it’s okay to screw up initial reports on something because corrections can easily be made later online. In this case, whoever wrote the first draft of the story might not have known the races of those involved at the time it was written. If such was the case, it would not have been hard to fall into the trap of inference to false facts as a matter of keeping with the standard black-folk-as-victim narrative.

It’s a different situation from a writer knowing the races of those involved, and setting out to spin the story to fit an agenda.

Slightly off topic, but something that might be worth passing along is the amusing story on Friday of a meeting that took place between Donald Trump, Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter, and Anna Wintour, the fossilized fashion diva at Vogue. Carter and Trump have evidently been engaged in an ongoing feud after Carter, something of a prissy auntie, called The Donald a “short-fingered vulgarian.” Whatever that is.

Carter wanted to bow out of the meeting, but Wintour asked him to be there. She was apparently afraid to be in the same room with Trump by herself.

    • Poetrooper says:

Pardon me for this Perry because you usually have well thought out comments here; but I simply cannot help myself.

Might not have known the races involved?

    • Just An Old Dog says:

Donald Trump does not take ridicule lightly. I saw a recent documentary on him.
Back in 2010-11 he made the “mistake” of questioning “The Chosen One’s” place of birth and why he didn’t release his student records.
At the 2011 White House Press Dinner Obama spent about Ten minutes “roasting” Trump, supposedly in good humor but it was in my opinion way to far. An entire event, full of hundreds of people were laughing hysterically at him.
Trump simply sit there stone faced, but people who knew him said he had that look about him that he got when someone had crossed the line and became his mortal enemy.
That night is what cooked the Obama, Clinton and Democrat Goose and put Trump on his way to the white house.
There are some people you simply do not fuck with.

    • 11B-Mailclerk says:

At this point, for that CBS radio story, it requires a willing disbelief in Evil to asssign non-hostile motives to that complete inversion of reality.

-No one- is -that- incompetent. -No one-.

That radio segment was the result of someone -deliberately- inverting reality to fit a political agenda. That none of the various editors and minions objected is simply -monsterous-. Even if you give the -original- author with radioactive-stupid, it is beyond belief that -all- of them were that stupid.

-No one- is -that- incompetent. -No one-.

At some point, you have to acknowledge deliberate enemy action. Or, you become part of their efforts. A good measure is the oft repeated warning: “Once is happenstance. Twice is coincidence. Three times is enemy action.”

What is “Are you (HONK!)ing kidding me? Again?”.

  7. akpual says:

Hey didn’t Dan “the truth” Rather work for CBS?

    • David says:

And had a long and distinguished career there marked by misinformation, lawbreaking, BS pontificating, and encouraging the same in his proteges. You could make a pretty good case that his days of deteriorating reporting started with the Galveston hurricane.

      Yeah, I’m not a Rather fan…

  8. MSG Eric says:

I saw this on molon labe’s fb page today. It is another video these fine upstanding you men did to show how completely innocent and misunderstood they are…. (You might have to scroll down a bit to see it.)

  9. A Proud Infidel®™ says:

The Communist Broadcast System rendered itself irrelevant to me when Dan Blathers did his fake propaganda hit on GW Bush and the rest of the liberal DNC Pravda media can kiss my ass as well. Maybe if they ever decided to return to non-biased and editorialized coverage they might get more viewers, but I’m convinced they’ll let their networks finish going down the sewer pipes before they do that. FOUR cowardly black PUNKS kidnapped and abused a Special Needs White adult and HOW MANY White neighborhoods rioted?

    • Yef says:

      This. Good point.

When the community disorganizer in chief won, twice, nobody rioted. When the totalitarian progressive left, or simply the Left, doesn’t get their way, they riot and claim there is no mandate, and elections don’t have consequences.

  10. Skippy says:

We have a lot of de-bugging to do…

Study the history and the tactics and you’ll see I’m right. the Dems and the Rinos are in bed
With people who are ready and would like to take us out..

    • nbcguy54ACTUAL says:

Only 3 out of 17 intelligence agencies (who knew we had that many) agreed with the Russian hacking report. You don’t hear that in the news.

And I was a decorated vet 2 minutes out of Basic Training-had my prestigious ASR. Reckon I’m some kind of special too….

      • Silentium Est Aureum says:

Yeah, but the day I got my coveted NDSM…I know where I was.

      • Claw says:

I hear that a V Device on the ASR makes one a “Highly Decorated Veteran.”

        Any truth to that? /smile

        • nbcguy54ACTUAL says:

Dammit guys! Can’t I bask in my long lost glory for at least a few minutes???

            • nbcguy54ACTUAL says:

If I was to go back in the Army and go through Basic again, do I get a numeral 2 or an oak leaf cluster on my ASR???

        • MSG Eric says:

It depends on if you got the V at a discount, or paid full price for it at the PX.

      • Skippy says:

I agree with this he number most have no idea Lol.
And out of the three not one shred of evidence to back anything up

  11. alvo says:

Wow…that FB video shows what “sweet boys” mama raised. HANG ‘EM HIGH!”

    • MSG Eric says:

Yep, I saw it and lost it, but went looking for it to find it. FB feeds can get pretty inundated with postings.

Definitely a worthwhile piece of evidence the prosecutor should be using to show a pattern of their state of mind.
