John S. Simpson; Marines & Mickey valor thief

| February 13, 2017 | 68 Comments

About a year ago, controversy started swirling around a veteran who ran a charity called Marines & Mickey, John Shannon Simpson, when another group, the Lance Corporal Skip Wells Foundation, cut ties with Simpson. The story goes that Simpson misrepresented his military service – his website said that he had been in a Marine Recon unit and that he’d been a drill instructor on Parris Island. In this picture, it looks like he’s wearing Airborne wings and a SCUBA Bubble on his polo shirt;

From Florida Today;

In an interview last year, Simpson repeated claims previously posted on the Marines & Mickey website that he served in a Marines reconnaissance battalion and as a Parris Island drill instructor.

He also claimed to have served four trips to Afghanistan and that he’d retired as a Master Sergeant, according to media reports.

The Marine Corps disagrees with Simpson;

His training did involve special instruction after a special court martial;

According to the Independent Mail last month, the Feds are still investigating Simpson’s dealings within his own organization.

Two federal agencies are still investigating John Simpson, a former Anderson resident who founded a charity called Marines & Mickey.

A joint probe being conducted by the FBI and Naval Criminal Investigative Service “remains open and ongoing,” NCIS spokesman Ed Buice said in an email last week.

Investigators have spent several months looking into complaints about the financial practices of Marines & Mickey, which Simpson formed in 2014, a year after he moved from Anderson to Estero, Florida. The charity was created to send Marines and their families to Disney theme parks and to pay for families of Marines to attend boot camp graduations.

Simpson also has been accused of falsifying the details of his military career.

Efforts to contact Simpson were unsuccessful. The phone number for his Florida business, Semper Fi Secruity [sp] Systems, is no longer in service.

    What an absolute scumbag!

  2. Graybeard says:

John Shannon Simpson is a dishonorable, lying, thieving scumbag.

I hope the FBI nails his mangy hide to the outhouse.

  3. Wilted Willy says:

Why do they always have to live here? Can’t these lying scumbags pick someplace else to steal oxygen? Maybe because so many trusting honest people live here, or is the stoopid that strong here? I am almost ready to move somewhere else. I hope this cocksucker gets his time in the poundhimintheass prison real soon! Bubba and the gang would really like some fresh meat!

    • Graybeard says:

I think something about the Key West environment draws them like flies to…

      • Tom Huxton says:

It is likely the Key West economy. Nearly Paradise. Problem is that the money comes hard for non-working types. They turn to mail fraud and internet charity for income. It is a long way to the state line and a very difficult hitch-hike.

        • Vicki Clark says:

its beyond an internet charity. He did assist some families with getting to boot grad and sent a few to Disney BUT required these brand new Marines to sign a donation form for an auto debit from their bank accounts for $200.00. THEN he began just debiting money, from their accounts which since they were brand new with 3 months pay plus for thousands of dollars! He deserves to be tortured daily!

  4. Veritas Omnia Vincit says:

Fraud never plays well, it plays really poorly with the feds when it’s based on stolen valor and a pretense of aiding veterans….as it should.

Here’s hoping he gets far more than 75 days of lock up for his civilian crimes…

  5. Claw says:

The first linked story says that Simpson first approached LCPL Wells’ mother with his scam during the LCPL’s funeral.

Now if that is not the mark of a true low life scumbag con artist, I don’t know what is.

  6. SFC D says:

Dipshit has more AWOL time than most of our posers have on active duty.

So he’s got that going for him.

  7. Skyjumper says:

On his Court Martial, page 2…..”except for the bad conduct discharge, will be EXECUTED (emphasis mine)…..”.

If only that had meant something else , and they had pursued that option.

This idiot doesn’t need to be breathing our air.

    • CWORet says:

I no speakey lawyer. Does that mean he DIDN’T get a BCD then? That would piss me off even further.

      • MrBill says:

This is routine. Punitive discharge are not executed until the appellate process has played out. I’m sure he eventually got to enjoy his Big Chicken Dinner. 🙂

      • USMCMSgt (Ret) says:

Punitive discharges automatically are reviewed at the appellate level. This includes dismissals for mid-shipmen or officers.

Punitive discharges are held in abeyance until the appellate court makes its final ruling.

Once the appellate process is over (and if the findings were legally sufficient and the punishment was appropriate for the case), then any suspended punishments is effected.

In this case, I’m betting he ended up getting his BCD.

    • Dapandico says:

All other punishments took effect immediately.

  8. Mick says:

Oh. Hell. No. Not another crooked/embellishing Marine. There have been way too many of these shitbirds lately.

This assclown was a USMC MOS 3432 Finance Technician (a.k.a. disbursing clerk):
    http://www.cool.navy.mil/usmc/enlisted/3432.htm

He was also a deserter (see Special Court Martial info posted above) who did a couple of months in the brig before the Marine Corps finally kicked him to the curb.

So yeah, Finance Technician + deserter is pretty much the same as Force Recon. Uh huh.

The mind staggers at this level of blatant stupidity.

Hopefully Forest Green will show up here this morning and pile on with some insights on this jackassery.

  9. Hack Stone says:

I see that he was awarded a much coveted Driver Improvement Certificate. Hack Stone was earned one of them early in his career, and his father was so proud of that accomplishment that he framed it and displayed it on the wall Pappa Stone Corporate Headquarters. The 29 Palms version had an image of a CUCV and a 1957 Chevy Bel Air. It could have been worse, they could have used the image of an early 1980’s Jaguar.

  10. MSGT_RET says:

Well he did actually see a Drill Instructor or two while he was going through Boot, so its easy to see how he might have gotten confused.

Also, if you subtract the lowest enlisted pay grade (E-1) from the highest enlisted pay grade (E-9), you get E-8. That explains why he thought he was a Master Sergeant.

His record shows that he was AWOL for a year. Everyone knows that AWOL is code for secret squirrel operations in Afghanistan.

You guys really need to cut him a break. 🙂

  11. Green Thumb says:

    What a turd.

Court Martial Discharge! What a hero!

And in Florida. I wonder if All-Points Logistics has a Foundation? This maggot could be there guy.

  12. Mick says:

I hope that he runs in to some real Force Recon Marines while he’s wearing that polo shirt.

  13. 2/17 Air Cav says:

What, no POW Medal? After all, there was a war on and he was a prisoner.

    • Mick says:

Yeah; he was held in a ‘Tiger Cage’ just outside of Kabul.

And he was the sole survivor who managed to escape.

And it’s all very highly classified and his military records remain sealed at the personal direction of POTUS. So he can’t talk about any of it. Except on social media and on barstools in the finer establishments that he frequents.

    • Mick says:

C’mon, everyone knows that doing time in the Camp Lejeune brig IS just the same as being a POW, ya know.

      • A Proud Infidel®™ says:

I don’t think that anyone incarcerated there is at risk of becoming the “property” of Bubba & Thor like he will in civilian lockup which ought to be soon, I wonder how long he’s had that scam going and how much money he has conned from people?

        • Hack Stone says:

Not so fast there. Back in 1990, we had a guy in 4th Marines that was advanced party on DADT. A few months later, I met a Brig Guard, and when I mentioned his name, she said he was on the brig softball team, but I don’t know if he was catching or pitching.

  14. HMC Ret says:

Sounds like my brother. About a year in the Navy, most spent in San Diego civilian jail, brig, Tijuana jail, UA, etc. Got him one of those general discharges under honorable conditions. Hell, yeah, he got much better than he deserved.

  15. Jeffro says:

    What a shitbird.

  16. Hossman says:

If you have a BCD and left service as an E-1, claiming Force Recon and E-8 is for pussy posers. GO BIG—claim the MOH and SGM. No one is ever going to find out the truth with that internet thingy and electronic records. Put all your effort into posing because we know you didn’t do it when you were actually a Marine. Scumbag–verba non est fortis.

  17. HMCS(FMF) ret says:

Here’s hoping that ass hamster JOHN S. SIMPSON gets the opportunity to dine at the all he will eat cockmeat sammich deli at the local poundhimintheass jail.

    What a fucking low-life scumbag…

  18. A Proud Infidel®™ says:

All those scams and approaching the Mother of a Fallen Marine at her Son’s funeral? You can’t get much lower than that, I don’t think even The Dutch Rudder Gang would stoop that low! Jesus H. Christ on a brokedick bamboo raft stuck up Shit Creek without a paddle, That lowlife fuckstick dingleberry makes the used car dealers right outside of a Military Installation look honest!

  19. Carlton G. Long says:

I just hope that Semper Fi Secruity Systems can avail itself of a good lawer.

  20. Mick says:

    Well, well, well; lookee here:

‘Marines & Mickey founder accused of sexually assaulting woman in Florida’

    http://www.independentmail.com/story/news/local/2017/01/20/marines-mickey-founder-accused-sexually-assaulting-woman-florida/96833200/

    ‘Published 12:42 p.m. ET Jan. 20, 2017 | Updated 1:05 p.m. ET Jan. 20, 2017

A former Anderson resident who founded the Marines & Mickey charity that is under federal investigation was charged in Florida this week with burglary, sexual assault, kidnapping and false imprisonment.

John Shannon Simpson, 40, was arrested Tuesday afternoon at his former girlfriend’s home near Fort Myers, Florida. He is being held at a Lee County jail. Simpson’s bail has been set at $155,000.

According to a Lee County Sheriff’s Office report, Simpson’s former girlfriend sought a restraining order against him on Jan. 5 that was denied due to a lack of information. She returned to court Tuesday morning in another attempt to get a restraining order.

The woman told investigators that Simpson showed up at her home after she returned from court Tuesday, according to the report.

“Simpson stated something to the effect of ‘I know you have a new boyfriend, don’t get an innocent man killed,’ ” the report states.

Simpson carried the woman upstairs, undressed her and forced her to take a shower while he watched, the report states. He then performed oral sex on her, according to the report.

A sheriff’s deputy arrived at the woman’s home a short time later, the report states.

The woman told investigators that Simpson had previously broke into their old business and stole items before leaving for South Carolina where his family lived, according to the report. She also said that Simpson continuously sends her text messages, “some of which are sexually explicit photographs.”

Simpson’s statement to investigators was redacted from the report.

The FBI and Naval Criminal Investigative Service are conducting a joint investigation of Marines & Mickey, a NCIS spokesman said last month. Investigators are looking into the financial practices of the charity, which Simpson founded a year after moving from Anderson to Florida in 2013.

Simpson told the Independent Mail earlier this month that he has provided investigators with 613 documents showing that Marines & Mickey paid for 41 Marines and their families to visit Disney theme parks and also sent 313 relatives of Marines to boot camp graduations.

“We did nothing wrong,” he wrote in an email.

Simpson has been under scrutiny since the Lance Corporal Skip Wells Foundation severed its ties with Marines & Mickey last March. Wells, a 21-year-old Marine, was one of the five serviceman fatally shot in July 2015 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, by Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez in what the FBI called a crime “motivated by foreign terrorist organization propaganda.”

Simpson misrepresented his military background when he approached Cathy Wells at a memorial service for her son, according to Jason Weeks. Weeks is a former Marine who joined Cathy Wells in creating the nonprofit named after her son.

Simpson, who grew up in Belton, has claimed that he served in a Marines reconnaissance battalion and as a Parris Island drill instructor.

According to a Marines Manpower & Reserves Affairs spokeswoman, Simpson enlisted in the Marines in 1994. The spokeswoman said Simpson served as a finance technician before he was demoted to the rank of private and involuntarily discharged after a special court martial in August 1997.

The court martial came two months after Simpson was arrested in Oconee County while absent without leave. He received a one-year suspended sentence after pleading guilty to unlawfully carrying a handgun.

Simpson ran a burglar alarm business in Anderson after leaving the Marines. Numerous customers complained about the business and state officials suspended its license in 2012.

A judge approved the divorce of John and Tonya Simpson in October 2016, according to court records from Lee County, Florida.

Simpson said earlier this month that the federal investigation of Marines & Mickey “is being pushed by a jealous foundation” that didn’t “do anything for Marines.”

“Everyone likes throwing those rocks inside their glass houses,” he said. “What do those idiots think will happen to me? I’ve never had any felonies and never will.”‘

Sweet Tap-Dancing Freyja, this guy is as low as I can imagine. Approaching a Gold Star Mom? Julio, we’ve got one for you. Don’t bother with lube.

    Motherfucker felon criminal shitbag…bet he’s also a ticklemonster…

  23. Bill (a NIMBY/Banana) says:

This one takes the (urinal) cake. He’s done enough shit in so many out-of-balance ways he’s gonna get a sunshine state (disbarred) lawyer who will get him off fer being Crazy.

    • A Proud Infidel®™ says:

IMHO just trying to hire that roadkill rat-faced organism as legal representation might be a scam to sway a judge to rule someone “Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity”

  24. Bill M says:

I just have no words. What a pile of crap!

  25. IDC SARC says:

FFS…I dunno where to even start.

    fukking waste of DNA

    His ad copy should read:

“Brig Bunny Bunko Brothers! Our craft is GRAFT!”

  27. Jason Weeks says:

I’m Jason Weeks, mentioned in the article for outing this shitheel for stealing over 150k from Cathy in personal loans, and fundraising in Skips name, before I caught him and lured him to Marietta GA under the premise of presenting a large donation, and giving him a chance to make a good faith payment to Cathy before going public. This FOIA is the result of a years worth of investigating, waiting, and hoping he would be exposed. Thank you to the admins of this page for finally presenting the official DD214 and discharge conditions that we knew from the beginning, but couldn’t present to the public without the official FOIA. He is currently awaiting araingment on Monday Feb 20th, in Lee County FL, for sexual assault against his former gf who was also involved with his fraudulent foundation, and while we don’t condone his behaviour, she is the mother of a Marine herself and told Cathy when asked to stop using Skips name and image that she did not own a Trademark on his name, and continued to defraud Marine families using Skips name. We have very little sympathy for a Marine mother who would tell a Gold Star mother she had no right to her sons image when she herself could become a Gold Star mother herself at any time…
We are now waiting for the federal indictment on stolen valor, and wire fraud charges from all 50 states where donations originated and were deposited into gofundme accts in SC where the Marines and Mickey foundation was registered as a 501C3.
Also of significant interest, he not only presented his service to include being an 0321 with 2nd Force Recon, and Parris Island Drill Instructor, MSgt with multiple combat deployments in Iraq and Afg, he has a elbow to wrist Recon Jack tattooed to his right forearm.
We look forward to hearing how that works out for him when he meets a few 0321’s in the system…
Before anyone questions my background, I served from 1989 to 1993, with HMH 463, deployed to DS/DS, and a WestPac to Iwakuni, Okinawa, and the PI, and taking a 90 day early out after returning to KBay, getting out with an honorable RE1A discharge as a terminal lance.
I now co-chair the LCpl Skip Wells Foundation with Cathy Wells, and organize the annual memorial ride with the Wingmen Motor Cycle Club.
Please feel free to contact me via fb if anyone has any questions, we are grateful to,the admins for finally exposing the long awaited DD214 putting the stolen valor rumors to rest once and for all. Big day for us, thank you and Semper Fi.

This is a deeply personal issue for me. I am a proud mom of a Marine. My daughter graduated from Paris Island two years ago. There was no way that I was going to mid her graduation and I sought out resources to help with the cost of the trip. That’s how I encountered Marines and Mickey.I applied and was to receive 100.00 toward my family’s hotel room. There were some conditions associated with receiving the assistance one of which was that my new Marine had to call John Simpson so that he could congratulate my new Marine. Well…that was this scumsucker’s hook to get more money. You see, he preyed upon the new Marines not really to congratulate them but to get them to donate to the charity. My daughter authorized a one time donation of 200.00. A couple of weeks later another 200.00 came out while she was at MCT. Luckily, the Credit Union had placed a hold on her account while she was at MCT due to possible fraudulent activity on her account that isn’t related to this, but thank God it happened as I have read of accounts from other victims who had multiple transactions made on their accounts.

The SOB had it planned out so that he would get brand new Marines who he knew would have lots of money in their accounts at graduation to donate while they would be on leave. Then he could keep taking funds while the Marines were at MCT, and in the field when the Marines wouldn’t have access to check their accounts for a month.

This guy is lower than low…a true bottom feeder and a total disgrace. I wanted to share my story because I feel like this part of his story gets left out. My daughter was not his only victim…there are many more. He and his charity were banned from PI as I understand it as well it should have. I want to see this lying, thieving POS get what he deserves and all of the Marines and Marine Families he victimized get the justice they deserve.
