Chuck Schumer; crocodile tears, hypocrisy and chaos

| March 20, 2017

Chuck “I think we can nail him” Schumer is back at it. He will not be one-upped by Pelosi’s “But we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what’s in it….”.

Back in 2013, recall, a GOP effort to defund ObamaCare in a federal spending bill led to a 16-day shutdown of the federal government. Democrats were irate (as they always are when Republicans advance their policies), and none more so than Schumer, who explained how his party was above the fray.

“You know,” he said on ABC’s “This Week,” “we could do the same thing on immigration reform. We believe strongly in immigration reform. We could say, ‘We’re shutting down the government, we’re not gonna raise the debt ceiling, until you pass immigration reform.’?”

But, he added ominously, “it would be government chaos.”

So, the Republicans were harum-scarum in 2013, now the Democrats are righteous rebels in 2017.

New York’s senior senator doesn’t like the fact that Republicans mean to insert provisions for border-wall funding and deportation of illegal immigrants in a must-pass bill to keep the government funded past April 28. So he’s threatening a filibuster to block passage — which would result in furloughing government employees, just like last time.

Back then, Democrats called it “hostage-taking.” Now they’re blaming Republicans for leaving Democrats no option but to take hostages themselves. Or, as Schumer put it: “They will be shutting down the government and delivering a severe blow to our economy.” Meaning: When they do it, it’s reckless; when we do it, it’s principle.

Go get ’em Chuck, maybe you can convince them with some crocodile tears, your hypocrisy has no limits.

If it were not for double standards, the Democrats (and some Republicans) would have not standards at all.

  2. AW1Ed says:

    Allow me.

  3. Veritas Omnia Vincit says:

Kind of like how he was for a travel ban in 2015 before he was against it in 2017….it’s just another in a long list of apparent hypocrisies committed by Schumer and company.

Once a lying sack of shit, perhaps always a lying sack of shit.

  4. 2banana says:

Finance and budget bills only require a simple majority.

The republicans can pass whatever they want if all their RINOs go along…

    • Hondo says:

Absent the Senate exercising the rumored “nuclear option”, if I recall correctly ending a filibuster requires 60 votes.

  5. 2/17 Air Cav says:

“which would result in furloughing government employees, just like last time.” Furloughing? That’s the new word for paid vacation w/o charge to leave, isn’t it?

    • AW1Ed says:

Except for the “paid” part, you are correct. And leave is not authorized by law, and will not be approved.

      0 for 2.

      • ex-OS2 says:

I was under the assumption that furloughed employees received back pay and still accrued annual leave? The OPM guidance indicated that in the 2013 report.

        • 2/17 Air Cav says:

Correct. The 2013 shut down cost us 2 billion for fed employees to officially do nothing.

          • Hondo says:

Don’t think so – see OWB’s comment below.

My recollection is that those Federal employees deemed “emergency essential” were retroactively paid for time actually worked. Others affected by sequestration’s cuts were placed on LWOP for the number of lost hours.

          • IDC SARC says:

FYI,I worked every day of the “furlough.” Told them they’d have to remove me physically if they didn’t like it. 🙂

Most others were here working as well.

Backpay isn’t automatic, congress has to authorize it. We employees trying to do our jobs don’t make the rules, we just get stuck dealing with it.

I don’t apologize at all for what happens, Employees have nothing to do with it. I’m trying to train troops everyday as best I can.

Anybody thinks the employees like being pawns, I would say, IME that is generally incorrect.

      • 2/17 Air Cav says:

AW1Ed. No federal gov’t employee lost a dime in a shut down. All were paid retroactively. So, they were off, were not charged leave, and were paid. I call that a vacation w/o charge to leave. Matter of fact, without having to commute, buy gas, or purchase another round of Girl Scout cookies in the office, the employees made out better than if they had to word–er, show up at the office. 2-0

        • AW1Ed says:

Not how I recall it, but I was exempted and expected to work until all the DON’s funding for our work was depleted. I was out on Leave Without Pay (LWOP) for a few days, and never was compensated for that. It was a sequestration, not a furlough, which I believe is how the bean counters weasel worded their way out of payback. It really hurt a lot of our younger personnel.

          4. Q. During past government shutdowns in 1995 and 1996, furloughed civilians were paid retroactively. Is that expected to happen this time?
          A. Sequestration and resulting furloughs will affect the civilian workforce differently than a lapse of appropriations (government shutdown). There is no provision for employees to receive retroactive compensation at this time. Employees should not plan to receive retroactive compensation.

          • 2/17 Air Cav says:

You might want to talk to HR about that because there is a continuing resolution, passed in 2013, that pays all fed gov’t employees for pay lost through shut downs.

            • OWB says:

Maybe it was only the employees who actually went to work who did not get paid? Sounds about like how the federal geniuses would handle it.

            • AW1Ed says:

That may be the case for other government branches, but we DOD civilians took it in the shorts. Hell, our contractors weren’t even allowed to come into the workplace. They didn’t lose any money or time, but they had to work from off-site. Won’t hurt to ask HR, though. Worse they can do is say “No.”

              • Hondo says:

Don’t hold your breath. I know a number of folks that were similarly affected. They took it in the shorts too.

My recollection is that only those who actually worked (e.g., “emergency essential” employees were later compensated for that time. Others were not.

        • Grunt says:

Not quite how I remembered it. More like “as an exempt employee, work every day like usual with the hope that you’d eventually be paid.”

I don’t know all of the people who work for the G, but of the ones I do know I can think of precisely zero who viewed the shutdown as some sort of paid vacation.

But what do I know. I was just an exempt employee during the shutdown. I’m sure you know a whole lot more about the day-to-day of working without expectation of a paycheck that I could possibly be aware of.

          • AW1Ed says:

Easy, G, we were there in ’13; they’re looking at what was back in the mid -90’s government shutdowns. Apples to orangutans comparison, but you can’t blame ’em. All govvies are slack jawed stump fucking slackers, and all the 14 hour, no overtime, you can comp it later, days I put in won’t change that.
So we do it for the Big Bucks! *snicker*

  6. Ex-PH2 says:

Crocodile tears? I have some used kleenex I could send him.

What does it take to shut off the mic these dorks gravitate toward?

  7. The Other Whitey says:

Fucking hypocrites. In other news, Chuckfuck’s fat slut cousin’s latest standup show went down in flames. It seems Special Snowflake Amy got IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes to reset the rating votes for it twice, and it still came out smelling like shit.

Now if only the other Schumer’s reelection campaign would have a similar outcome…

  8. USMC Steve says:

My understanding is that the filibuster is dead, pretty much, thanks to that Dumbass Reid’s forcing of the passage of the Nuclear Option.

    • Veritas Omnia Vincit says:

Funny how no one thinks dumb shit like that won’t come back and bite them in the ass hard…

  9. Wilted Willy says:

Fuck Chuck up the ass with Satan’s rotten cock!

  10. ALVO says:

    FUCK YOU UPCHUCK. Whadda schmuck.
