The Panama City Beach, Florida Police Department released this yesterday on their Facebook page;

The Panama City Beach Police Department announces the arrest of 44 year old, Air Force Colonel, Michael Shawn Garrett, from Tyndall Air Force Base. Garrett was arrested after he solicited sex from an undercover Panama City Beach Police Officer, who was portraying a 14 year old boy online. Garrett described in detail his sexual interest with the child and insisted on meeting in person. Garrett was taken into custody without incident after he drove to a predesignated location in which he believed was the child’s home. Garrett was charged with Traveling to Meet a Minor for Sex, Solicitation of a Minor for Sex and Unlawful use of a two-way communication device. He is currently being held at the Bay County Jail awaiting first appearance.

There’s been a lot of these lately.

Another one who never learned the lesson taught on the Innerwebz way back in 1994:

    Men are men.
    Women are men.
    Children are cops.

At least this one got nailed before he could hurt someone (or another someone.)

  2. Hondo says:

In a just world, the USAF would court-martial and dismiss this (alleged) perv. However, my guess is he’ll be allowed to retire and face civil charges instead – “because dismissal means losing his retirement, and that might hurt his family”.

Sorry, but he brought this on himself. He hurt his own family (if he has one) when he tried to solicit an underage teen for sex. Criminal charges and loss of all retirement benefits as the result of a dismissal would be justified consequences.

    No sympathy.

    • AW1 Tim says:

Actually, in a just world, the “officer” would be sat down in his cell, have his rights read to him, told what charges he will face and what the costs to his family will be if he is convicted.

Then the senior officer present would get up and leave the prisoner alone in the cell, with the door closed, for 5 minutes, with a pistol on the table with 1 round in the chamber.

If the “officer” facing charges had any care at all for his family, he’d do the right thing and use that round, leaving his insurance settlement for them, etc. so they could get on with their lives.

      But that’s just me.

    • Fyrfighter says:

Agree Hondo, and especially, with the fact that it was a MALE underage teen, he will get a slap on the wrist at best..

    • The Old Maj says:

If he is in prison he does not get any retirement. You have to eligible for call to active duty.

Doubt he will do jail time though, first attempted offense. It could happen but he will hire a first rate lawyer and weasel out of it.

    • afizmyf8 says:

Actually, a situation similar to this happened with a Captain at Tinker AFB, OK. The Captain was found committing sodomy on a minor girl at Draper Lake and was dishonorably discharged from the Air Force and allowed Oklahoma to take jurisdiction of the case and sentenced him to 16 years in an Oklahoma Prison. This Colonel needs to be reduced to Airman Basic, stripped of all potential benefits, denied retirement, and given prison time.

Mission Crossfit? Some new weird kinky shit?

      Great advertising for crossfit!

    • A Proud Infidel®™ says:

I remember seeing a number of the Crossfit junkies FAIL their PT Test during my tour in Kuwait.

      • MSG Eric says:

The same issue with the newer “PRT” that was started a few years back. They noticed a decline in PT scores Army wide after switching to PRT. Why?

Because Soldiers spent so much time stretching for 20 minutes a day for 4 weeks, not doing enough running, and doing an excessively long “build up” phase they didn’t get enough of the basics in.

Wanna do more push-ups? Do Push-ups. Wanna do more Sit-ups? Do Sit-ups. Wanna Run faster? Run.

I think They let someone who’s done Yoga for 20 years write the new Army PRT and it hurt everyone who had to use that stupid concept. I think its fine for Basic Training because of how out of shape young kids are, but you can’t switch up to a new concept like that Army wide and not expect a decline.

I did a survey a couple years back about the “new” PT concept and it was 90% Crossfit WODs. I rolled my eyes so much that I got a headache.

There’s nothing wrong with doing crossfit if you want to do that and you can pass the APFT and are “really” in shape. But you have to do the running, the long slow running, along with the fast shit otherwise you’ll fail.

    • Jonp says:

Nothing wrong with crossfit as long as you realize what is and that its not the end all be all just part of an overall fitness regime. With as many out of shape and obese people we have everyone should be happy anyone is doing anything physical

  5. A Proud Infidel®™ says:

SMOOTH MOVE, Colonel EX LAX!!! He ought to at the very least face Dismissal and time in a Florida PMITA Prison. I wonder how many years of service he flushed down the shitpipes letting his perversity think for him?

  6. MSG Eric says:

I’m surprised he was even arrested, he does crossfit! How dare they! Don’t they know he does crossfit?!?!

  7. Graybeard says:

    Ruined his career.
    Disgraced his family.
    Disgraced his service.
And who knows how many children’s lives he has destroyed?

Put him in a room full of mirrors, with a audio recording of the charges on continual play – he sees nothing but himself, hears nothing but his crime.

  8. FatCircles0311 says:

What is more embarrassing being arrested for gay pedopila or being caught wearing crossfit gear?

    Haha what a shitbag.

    WTF?

Stop this horrible, brutally destructive paedophile bullshit.

    • MSG Eric says:

The Army times keeps doing their judicial punishment lists monthly / quarterly and it is astounding how often they are for sexual assault, especially against minors. Very disturbing and something that should be analyzed to find out truly why. (Without doing another damn mandatory training powerpoint briefing for everybody)

It all took off with the ‘free love’ movement of the 1960’s hippies.

Then add the concept of moral relativity – where what you think is wrong does not make it wrong for me.

Cut out moral education because it is founded in the concept of a deity, add the anonymity of the internet, and a cultural move to narcissism.

        Hey Presto! Tickle monsters!

Sick… absolutely sick. Flushed everything down the shitter over his sick desires. Hope he enjoys his time in poundhimintheass prison – the boys at the BTJT Deli will greet him with “loving” arms.

  12. USAFRetired says:

This guy is an Air National Guard O-6 in Title 10 status. Not sure what the military can do about him.

    • A Proud Infidel®™ says:

I’m hopeful they AT LEAST give him a Dismissal, then let the State of Florida try and convict him and then let hin serve a stint as the “Property” of Bubba & Thor while they rent him out to the rest of their cell block.

    • MSG Eric says:

It depends on what he was doing that day. But, once he’s convicted they’ll be doing away with him posthaste.

    • O-4E says:

Title 10 = active federal service = UCMJ

If he were Title 32 that would be a different story

      • MSgt A says:

State of Florida has the same UCMJ for guard members. They don’t even need to be on a status for it to apply. This guy faces UCMJ either way.

      • Commissar says:

Yep, though there is a pretty good chance they will let the civilians prosecute this so the air force does not have to keep him on orders to prosecute him.

This way they can stop paying him and stop being associated with him.

    • MSgt A says:

If he’s in title 10 status then active duty can do what they want with him, if he is title 32 then the ANG can do it. Either way, it’s the same UCMJ as the Florida Guard had adopted the UCMJ as it’s state military code.

      • O-4E says:

State’s don’t do Courts Martial. Though allowed for under most, if not all, State UCMJs. State’s simply don’t have the time or resources to do them.

The last time my state did a Court Martial was in the 60s.

  13. Green Thumb says:

    Sicko-fuck.

  14. Just An Old Dog says:

Looking at his age it looks like he got his commission when Clinton was in office and DADT starting taking affect.
I remember during his time ( at least in the USMC) quite a few officers were commissioned that in my opinion were nothing more than “equal opportunity hires”.
I distinctly remember 4 of these clowns that spent the minimum time in platoon or company command and got shuffled off to a useless staff job.
I can only imagine what kind of shit got commissioned under Obungler due to their skin color, having a clam instead of an eel betwixt their legs or being taco-slappers or flute-players.

  15. rgr769 says:

But, but, butt, it was only that ghey kind of sex. Isn’t that the new norm now. And besides, maybe the Col. self-identifies as a hot 15 year old girl. There is nothing wrong with xer going after a 14 year old boy, who was really an adult cop, is there? We need to stop being so judgmental and so cis-gendered on this forum. Ask yourselves, what would Lars do?

  16. NavyEODguy says:

When these pop up with the perv being an AF Colonel, I immediately forward to my Brother (Retired AF). His wife is still on AD and is a LtCol.

I keep telling him that if this crap keeps up his wife may make the “Bird” real early.

  17. Ex Barracks Lawyer says:

The ucmj hasn’t adjusted, but the cc gets to decide what charges he faces inside the fence. Outside, he’s hosed. If he lives on base, that ends, although his family can stay, he no longer can reside in housing…
Eagle Dr. Is shit hot waterfront for the head shed folks. Tyndall breeds this stuff….remember Capt Erika Furlong…aka captain Amerika…from the late 90’s.
Sad to say the AF is promoting the alternative orientations now with all this lgbtqdfrng bs. Pride day hosts a parade where all the freaks can come out to play and pediphilia is an orientation according to them….Soddom is coming to roost and our Gov is going to crap with these maggots. Pedestal has pics of nude teens all over his house as conversation starters. The Clintons enjoy their time on the Lolita Express and the USVI campground for the pediphilia elite…hell is arriving folks. I doubt this prick will see any real damage other than earlier retirement from the new rotc job….sad day for all the new gay cadets he was probably casting for big jobs in the Af.
