First “Marines United” court martial conviction

| July 11, 2017 | 48 Comments

Military.com reports that the first Marine has been convicted in a summary court martial for his participation in the Facebook group “Marines United” where folks shared pictures of fellow Marines in various stages of undress for community commentary;

He pleaded guilty at summary court-martial June 29, according to a Marine Corps news release, and was sentenced to 10 days’ confinement, demotion by three ranks, and forfeiture of two-thirds of his pay for one month. The Corps is also moving forward with efforts to administratively separate him from the service.

The Marine was not identified or described by rank or unit.

Marine Corps spokesman Maj. Brian Block told Military.com that a summary court-martial is considered an administrative proceeding, unlike general and special courts-martial, and that the Marine was therefore protected from identification through the Privacy Act of 1974.

The article continues that other Marines have been dealt with outside of the court martial process;

Of these persons of interest, 67 are active-duty or reserve Marines, while 22 are civilians. While NCIS continues to investigate five of the cases involving Marines, the other 62 have already been passed to relevant Marine Corps commands for punitive or legal action.

In addition to the one summary court-martial, there have been two administrative separations, seven non-judicial punishments, and 22 other adverse administrative actions, according to the release.

“These cases span beyond the Marines United Facebook page and include a spectrum of behavior,” Block said in the release. “While many cases involve photos, clothed or explicit, some involve verbal remarks without images.”

I’m thinking the marines that accepted NJP were smart and the ones adversely administered relatively fortunate…..Marine Corps had to act on this forcefully given the notoriety….as said you can be the example or when that fails be made the example

Good. I hope they all get booted and have to pay a hefty sum to the victims…. Knob wankers.

I never joined that group but now I wish I would have. The Corps seems to be all hell bent to identify who was posting there even if they were discharged long before the group was even founded.

Makes me wonder why the Marine Corps Rear Echelon Commandos can’t seem to be able to identify the KIA and Wounded in action from Beirut.

It seems they are more interested in finding people that comment on titties than notifying the loved ones of those killed by Iranian sponsored terrorism that they may qualify for compensation.

How about they get their shit together and develop some priorities.

I would love to see the Corps come after me for something I post online.

There are only a few pictures out of hundreds that were not posted online by the women themselves.

Whats next, every woman that ever worked at Hooters who goes on to become a doctor later can claim she is being “shamed” online because she posed with thousands of men with her tits as the center of attraction.

Dead and wounded Marines and their families deserve a wee bit more of Headquarters Marine Corps attention than some former Lance Corporals tits…or one would think.

REMF’s have infested the Corps leadership. I hope Sec Mattis unfuckerates that shit.

Dave Hardin, my admiration for you just went up 12 %. You obviously can read my brain, because I was thinking the exact same thing.
        Marvel or DC?

        • FuzeVT says:

          Dave,
I don’t disagree, but would offer the following thought. Part of this is driven by congress and (until recently) the administration. The ship hasn’t come about fully yet and I think those in the Grand Puzzle Palace in DC are still acting as if Omama – or whatever his name is – was still in charge. Even WITH the change in administration there are still congressional shit-heads and the press to apply pressure over things like this. That creates an overreaction for the sake of “optics”. (E.g. Dead Taliban peeing, SS Flag showing.) I am SO GLAD that Gen Mattis is in charge, but it is going to take time to make things sane again – if that is possible in 2017.

What would help in all things would be if the people that are on our side politically (or are at leadt ostensibly on our side โ€“ talking to you, GOP) would ignore the news. When CNN, MSNBC, etc. say that people are outraged, it is THEY who are outraged and the rest of the US either supports what caused the outrage or just don’t care.

This DOES NOT MEAN, of course, that rear echelon commandos don’t have their priorities straight. So back to your original point, I agree!

Dave, you are completely wrong, and your post here is full of outright lies.

First off, there are no unaccounted for Marinesrom Beruit. Where did you get that B.S.? Alex Jones or Glenn Beck?

Second, this is completely different from a girl working at Hooters. These are Marines, many of whom were photographed without their permission, and those photos posted online by other Marines. The Marine just convicted was active duty as were many of the victims. Even if they weren’t what about that Marine For Life stuff I always hear?

What REMFS have infested the Marine Corps leadership. The Commandant is an infantry Marine with an impressive record, the SMMC is an artilleryman, and the Vice is a Snake Driver who was the ANGLICO to freakin 1st Recon bn/1st MARDIV. What did you do in the Marines.

That said, I do believe that you would have joined this group. You are essentially justifying a criminal and cohesion destroying act based on your bigotry. Thank God you aren’t wearing a uniform.

        • Dave Hardin says:

          Well, In no particular order;

I am Atheist so thanking God for anything involving me will be up to you.

I was an Admin Clerk in the Corps.

Ok, you might have me on REMF’s. More accurately, I should have said “Leaders that are more concerned with feelings and the appearance of political incorrectness than with killing the enemy…or training to do as much.

The ones “photographed without their permission” as you say were all harmless pictures of women out in public places. Most of them were pictures while they were working out at a public gym. So ya, its bullshit to get your panties in a bind over women with camel toes doing squats.

Of course we still have the matter of Beirut. Sadly, I have spent the last several months in a effort to contact the loved ones of those KIA and WIA in Beirut.

I have had to do so because the United States Marine Corps seems to be busy tracking down Marines who seem to like pussy and make comments about as much while in a PRIVATE group not open to the public.

So, all matters concerning the expectation of privacy aside…I invite any REMF on active duty to breech my right to privacy.

In fact… I dare them. I post pictures of naked women all the time.

What I do in a private group comment or otherwise is none of anyone who was a lousy Cannon Cocker or an Angliworms concern.

Decades of war and we have SMMC with no CAR? Not one valor award between the CMC and the SMMC combined. I think that is actually a first.

I will display my toilet seat and Meritorious Mast for a flawless Junk on the Bunk with pride.

          Meanwhile, you can keep praying.

          • Dave Hardin says:

Ok, I did not mean to underbellish my service…I actually never got a Toilet Seat for marksmanship. I like Alex Jones, when he crashed the set to TYT and the politically correct progressive babe with the nose job called him a Fat Phuk…that was gold. Fat shaming by a liberal progressive. I often wonder why the Nose Job chick didn’t have the wart removed. Its kinda freaky to see a woman that spent a fortune on a nose job not have a wart removed from it.

Insofar as Glen Beck goes…he cries too much for me. Kinda reminds me of a Hollywood Marine that gets pissy when real Marines talk about actual boot camp.

All I can say is I am glad that the internet was not around when I was young and dumb.

I burned a bunch of letters from my HS girlfriend. Can’t do that with an internet post. Today our stupidity is recorded where we cannot easily (if at all) erase the stupid stuff we said/did with an ex.

That said, I believe that the Marines handling of this situation is not the best method of dealing with young stupid hormone-driven Marines.

  6. HMC Ret says:

So much stupidity and immaturity to go around I don’t even know when/where to start.

  7. Green Thumb says:

A bunch of idiots on both sides.

  8. Deplorable B Woodman says:

    When/if in doubt…..DON’T.

  9. FatCircles0311 says:

Fuck Marines over to appease shit civilians that would never serve.

RIP hog boards. RIP heterosexuality in the Marine Corps.
