Katie Ann Blanchard, Army Nurse doused in gasoline, set on fire and stabbed by civilian co-worker.

| August 12, 2017 | 105 Comments

For over  a year Lt. Blanchard had warned her command that 54-year-old Clifford Currie was a threat to her safety.

At approximately 5:10 p.m. on September 7, 2016, a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (NP) at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas, heard screaming from an office adjacent to hers at Munson Army Health Center. The civilian NP ran into the hallway and found 26-year-old 1LT Katie Ann Blanchard, an active duty Registered Nurse (RN) and mother of three, on fire from the waist up. (Details of the attack from the FBI Criminal Complaint, dated 8SEP16 can be found here.)

The smell of gasoline filled the hallway. The NP could see another coworker, 54-year-old Clifford Currie, in the office with Katie.  He was clutching a straight-edged razor in one hand and a pair of scissors in the other. Currie, a short, rotund man weighing well over 200 pounds, was screaming at Katie and stabbing at her face even as she was engulfed in flames.

The NP rushed in and attempted to help Katie put out the flames and get away from Currie. Both the NP and Katie fell to the floor while struggling with Currie, who continued to stab at Katie while putting his foot on her neck and hollering incomprehensibly.

A Doctor from a neighboring office heard the commotion and rushed to assist. She and the NP struggled to restrain Currie, who continued to stab at Katie. Even with Katie’s two heroic female co-workers fighting him, Currie was hell-bent on continuing his assault as Katie lay smoldering on the floor.

Clifford Currie: Employee of American Federation of Government Employees Union

One would think the horror of this event would have some kind of closure because Clifford Currie was found guilty this past week of Assault with Intent to Commit Murder. He is facing 20 years in federal prison and will be sentenced in October.  Sadly there is much more to become outraged about when it comes to this case.

For most of the thirteen months that she worked with Currie, she tried to have him disciplined or removed before his disturbing behavior would eventually escalate to her attempted murder.

Katie was Currie’s immediate supervisor, and she wrote over twenty negative counseling statements for Currie stemming from his consistently abysmal work performance, complaints directly from patients, and his outright negligence in performing his role as the Exceptional Family Member Program Care Coordinator. Katie repeatedly communicated to her command that she felt unsafe with Currie at work, and she felt untrained to deal with his combative attitude and escalating threats.

Currie overtly threatened Katie on multiple occasions prior to the September 7, 2016, attack.

Katie and her husband before she was brutally attacked.

Clifford Currie was a member of AFGE (American Federation of Government Employees Union).  It is being reported that his Union President, Audrey Harris, has loudly stated to multiple employees at Munson Army Health Center, that Katie “deserved” what she got.  She did not deserve to be doused in gasoline, lit on fire, stabbed and beaten.  It is my understanding that Audrey Harris  is still employed with the AFGE Union Local 738.

When Katie’s initial Section Chief transferred from Leavenworth, her new Section Chief took Katie’s pleas for help seriously. She endeavored to stop Currie before he escalated by going to the next Officer in the Chain of Command. But this Section Chief’s effort to put a stop to Currie’s behavior using the proper protocol was met with an admonishment that both she and Katie were acting irrationally as women and needed to come with facts—and not emotions.

It appears to me that Clifford Currie is not the only one that should be held accountable for what happened to Lt. Blanchard.

Before and After picture

It seems the Command and AFGE need to have their altitude adjusted.   There is much more to this case.  Google is your friend.  I am not sure who should be contacted if anyone wishs to voice their concern, but I think this guy:

Michael Kelly – National Vice President, District 9
Phone: (405) 670-2656
Fax: (405) 677-8481

Seems like a good place to start.  I will post some links below.

  1. Doc Savage says:

This thing is a friggen travesty from beginning to end.

    • HMCS(FMF) ret says:

      That’s an understatement, Doc… a motherfucking understatement.

There are people a list of people that should be disciplined for the HELL that they have put Lt. Blanchard and her family through. AS TO Audrey Harris – that bitch should be taken out and horsewhipped for her statements, and then terminated from her job.

And, the assholes at Munson Army Health Center in Leavenworth, Kansas and at Warrior Transition Unit in San Antonio, Texas who have done everything to screw with Lt. Blanchard should be disciplined – it’s fucking disgusting what they have not done to take care of an injured Soldier.

      • Doc Savage says:

Just watch how the AFGE and lawyers will try to turn this around and make Currie the victim….how he was pushed into this because of “micro aggression” against a minority, or some other PC bullshit, in order to get him less time behind bars…”He wasn’t loved enough, had drug problems, was being oppressed by the establishment, etc”.
Truth is, this fucker was a ticking time bomb that everyone ignored or swept under the rug in the name of “diversity” or some such heinous horseshit.

      • Graybeard says:

IMHO, Audrey Harris herself needs to have done to her what happened to 1LT Blanchard.

This ought to never have occurred.

These damned federal government unions need to be broken, banned, and exterminated.

    • desert says:

No shyt! Cut that worthless bastards balls off with a very dull knife, then hang him in the town square!!! Bet this pisses the liberal scum off, no gun! so guess gas, fire, knives are acceptable to scum huh?

    • desert says:

You know, for 3 thousand years the Bible has told how to handle people like this…but the liberal/communist/dumocrap scum think they are smarter than God…how’s that working out for you scum, read the news lately (I mean besides the Trump bashing?) “An eye for an eye”, take that p.o.s. out, set him on fire after a dose of gas and stab the shyt out of him..no vital places tho, just make the asshole suffer! then when he burns out, hang him in the town square for other a.h.’s to see what happens when you are less that civilized….fear of reprisal is all that keeps ANYONE in line, we have no fear of reprisal anymore, punch their library card and send them home…bullshyt, punch them with a .45!!!

  2. Combat3c0 says:

So many things to say, all of them very inappropriate! I am holding back so many negative thoughts chief amongst them is drawing and quartering.

  3. AW1 Tim says:

My own personal opinion is this: Those responsible for ignoring this young woman’s pleas for assistance, those union reps defending the rat bastard who did this, and Katie’s supervisor, should all suffer the same fate as Katie.

As to the rat bastard cowardly mother fucker who did this? Handcuff him, cover him in chum, and toss him into shark-infested water.

This story just pisses me right the hell off, and shows agin why NO ONE who gets paid with tax dollars should be a member of a union. The sooner our government ceases the folly of collective bargaining, the better it will become, and the better off the taxpayers will be.

  4. Ret_25X says:

    Unions; Fuck!
    What are they good for?
    Absolutely; Nothing!

Why do unions want to protect this type of person?

For the same reason that gangs protect a street corner. Members are payers and the cash flow is all that matters.

When the mafia shakes down a business for jobs it is illegal but when a union does this it is “labor relations”.

Why? Follow the cash to the DNC.

    • Private Parts says:

Preach it brother. Unions are ruining this country under the guise of “improving” the lives of members. Great improvement if I am promised a higher wage if the job no longer exists because the union ensured its destruction.

I get told all the time “Oh, do not like Unions? Do not like making more money?” and I am sure to mention that I am happy to be working. You know, actually working. If I do not do my job, I starve. Simple and the way it should be.

    • Ex-PH2 says:

Why were the people in that command unwilling to do something about the threats before anything happened? If you read the article, nearly a year later, she’s not getting the financial help she’s supposed to get and needs and is being blocked from hearings that she should be allowed to attend.

If this incident is an embarrassment to the command, then they need to be censured about it, not this nurse.

  5. CPT11A says:

Currie needs a Chilean chopper ride. Since Harris will apparently defend Currie no matter what, he can join him.

  6. Kafir says:

Good thing the post is a gun free zone, so she couldn’t defend herself. Now if the National Gasoline Association would just stop common sense gasoline control laws from being passed…

    • Some Guy says:

I hear your sentiment, but hospitals are not the best place to be running around with guns. Even if they were, it’s doubtful she could have gotten off a clean shot or that it would even be her first reflex while engulfed in flames.

      • Thunderstixx says:

        That is not true, SG.
Hospitals are one of the first places that individual people, staff, patients and patient’s families should be armed.
They are home to various forms of lowlife, have tens of thousands of doses of narcotics, have people there that are in compromised situations and the cops are too busy playing social worker with a gun to see all the abuse and crime that goes on in a hospital.
Taking firearms away from law abiding citizens does nothing but leave criminals an open door to a million victims a day all across this country.
Hospitals and Nursing Homes are perfect places for people to be able to protect themselves…
Why in the fuck does everybody want to strip us of our God Given Right to self defense as guaranteed in the Bill Of Rights as the Second Amendment ???
Why is it morally superior for someone to be robbed, strangled with their panty hose and raped then killed than for that person to be able to fight back and have to explain why the now room temperature puke has a great big hole in their chest ???
And where in the fuck do people get off passing that kind of judgement in the first place ???
Who gave you the right to say that I can’t protect myself wherever I am ???

        • 11B-mailclerk says:

Some folks cannot see the “protect” side of the coin, only “threat”. People in the “save/protect” field often overlook this.

Up to us to become better at explaining the “protect” side, in non-threatening ways.

I suspect that “immunization” is an approach that might work.

You need something like 96%+ immunization to stop epidemic outbreaks, and to prevent diseases from being entrenched in a population. The germs die out, and people live healthy lives.

The sidearm is violent crime immunization. Each person armed not only immunizes themselves, but also those nearby.

The -mechanism- of carry-immunity is often misunderstood. Just the presence of a willing and able person, or a simply display of a weapon by such a person, will deter or dissuade. Thanks to Hollyweird, all they see is “guns blazing” scenarios.

          Concealed carry = Immunization
          Don’t be anti-vax

Better sales pitch. Better examples. (and a long long slog to overcome myths)

        • 11b-mailclerk says:

          Thubderstixx,

Are you saying a -nurse-, who evaluates conditions and threats all day, who is relied upon to make life and death crisis decisions, who is a trained soldier,

cannot make a valid shoot/no-shoot decision, at contact distance, when being attacked by a prior known bad actor?

I find that assumption unsupported by evidence.

She was required to be helpless. Look at the result. Somewhere, in a dark corner of a deranged mind, another monster is thinking the same mayhem thoughts.

          Enough.

        • desert says:

Amen, may the maggots against guns be found in a position of needing one and not having one! lessons that way are HARD LEARNED…..!

      • David says:

Some guy – and the two people who responded to help subdue Currie could not have gotten off shots?

I don’t carry to protect me….I carry to protect those who matter to me.

    • liz omps says:

Her do-nothing command could have posted an MP to the workspace which would have informed the putrid cretin, Currie, that he would be summarily ended if he continued to threaten violence upon the person of LT Blanchard. Instead her command threw her under the bus. COL Kent, Col Kassella et.al must all now be punished with pay loss and grad loss as well as being admin sepped. They are ALL negligent and share the blame in LT Blanchard’s horrible, lifetime of anguish.

  7. Hondo says:

If any incident I’ve ever heard of calls for a court-martial for dereliction of duty, this one does. And it’s also one of the few times I’ve wished the Feres doctrine wasn’t controlling legal precedent.

I hope the young lady and her husband go to court and take the AFGE for everything they have. The local chapter president’s statements here appear to indicate institutional approval for this criminal act – if not aiding and abetting same.

The POS who did this deserves far more than the 20 years he might get at sentencing. Hopefully he’ll never again see a single day of freedom before he begins the eternal dirtnap. And may his afterlife hold far more pain than his crime’s victims experienced.

  8. GDContractor says:

    Sickened beyond words.

  9. OWB says:

This is precisely why so many of us find union membership and public employment to be mutually exclusive conditions. While the lack of union support would not have prevented this nutcase from being a nutcase at least it would have prevented the actual, literal support they gave by encouraging his disgusting behavior.

This has gone beyond outrageous when employees are required to tolerate criminal behavior at work.

There is so much to say about this, and none of it good.

  10. Crusty CW3 says:

I am told by people very close to the case that thanks to the AFGE protection racket for him that not only was he on the job long after he should have been fired before this happened, but he continued to get a paycheck for a month after while he sat in jail and was still technically employed for another 3 months without pay before they could totally get him fired.

  11. HDrn says:

As a nurse, I have followed this case since I first heard about it. This is such a travesty and inconceivable. We have so many issues in the public health system with violence. Couldn’t begin to tell you how many times I’ve been assaulted by a patient. Of course, we are a “service industry” so we aren’t allowed to report to the police. Shut up and keep your job! Our complaints are always silenced and disregarded. Only recently a nurse was beaten and raped for three hours because corrections didn’t watch their patient and the C.O. Had his weapon stolen. That C.O. ran and hid!! To see that this crap happens in the military is such B.S. To see that there is a paper trail is infuriating and disgusting. Threats need to be taken seriously. What I can say though, is that Katie has remained strong and brave, she smiles through every interview and remains positive and focused. Asshole couldn’t kill her courage and bravery. My hats off to her strength, and to the other women who stepped in despite the dangerous situation.

  12. Mick says:

‘It is being reported that his Union President, Audrey Harris, has loudly stated to multiple employees at Munson Army Health Center, that Katie “deserved” what she got.’

WTF? 1LT Blanchard ‘deserved’ to be set on fire and stabbed? I’m speechless.

That comment from Audrey Harris in support of Clifford Currie’s actions leads me to wonder if there may be an underlying black against white racist aspect to this unspeakable crime.

  13. Mark Lauer says:

    “Deserved what she got”
    HOW?

When would it ever be appropriate to douse someone in gasoline, light them on fire, and stab them to death because they fear someone?
If dear union rep can answer that one I’d be very, fucking impressed.

  14. 26Limabeans says:

Sick animal needs to be put down.
Change the law if you must but
this animal needs to be put down.

  15. Frankie Cee says:

This is typical conduct, (or MIS-CONDUCT), by trade unions. I am not one bit surprised that the union local would say shit like this. Not as bad as this instance, but I have endured some hell from the Teamsters, cutting 8 of my truck tires, and putting sand in my fuel tank, while I was a member of the local that did the deed. I have seen the president of a Teamsters local, and the business agent, and the “committee man” corner a terminal manager and make him rehire a driver that was fired when he fell out of a truck cab, dead drunk, and couldn’t even stand.

  16. Ex-PH2 says:

Why was currie employed there in the first place? If a union connection protects an unstable employee from being fired when he endangers coworkers, there is something wrong.

There is so much wrong stuff going on here, it’s incomprehensible. Audrey Harris needs a lesson in simple common decency…or needs to have the crap beaten out of her. (That’s my anger speaking, nothing else.) I don’t think she has any common decency at all. If she isn’t fired, I’d like to know why. The union should at least be sued into the ground.

I wish Katie well, hope she recovers completely and that she leads a long, full life. No, she did NOT deserve this. No one does.

  17. A Proud Infidel®™ says:

IMHO he and his Union Rep need to share a cell and I say weld the door shut while the key is being ground into dust.

    • HMCS(FMF) ret says:

There are other people that need to be painfully held accountable for their inaction:

      – The first Section Chief
      – Both Hospital Commanders (COL John Kent and COL David Cassella)
      – LTC Matthew Fandre – Casella’s aide
      – The head of her medical team and the WTU in San Antonio

All of them have failed her countless times before and after the attack.

      More details here: http://www.thedailybeast.com/she-begged-the-army-to-stop-him-then-he-tried-to-burn-her-alive

    • Ex-PH2 says:

Frankly, what Harris said, i.e., ” It is being reported that his Union President, Audrey Harris, has loudly stated to multiple employees at Munson Army Health Center, that Katie “deserved” what she got….” violates the 1964 Civil Rights Act, Title VII, so Harris should not just be disemployed, but should also be charged with that violation.
The only way you can shut these people up is to hit them in the pockets, which is fine with me.

  18. The Other Whitey says:

Three things. First, is there a reason why this godawful cunt Audrey Harris shouldn’t be burned at the stake? I mean that in the literal sense. Tie the bitch to a post and set her ass on fire. See how she likes it. She still won’t be suffering as badly as Katie Ann Blanchard, as nobody will be beating or stabbing her in the process.

Second, tell me again why it’s such a bad idea for military personnel to have the option of carrying a concealed weapon–or for that matter, overtly strapping on a sidearm–at their normal duty station? Maybe then we’d be hearing about one violent asshole getting ventilated rather than a young woman with three kids suffering nearly-fatal disfigurement. She and two other women were unable to physically overcome a physically-unimpressive male violently attacking her. She already feared for her safety from this shitbag. She should’ve had the option available to her to put holes in him when her fears were confirmed.

Third, if one of my female firefighters approached me with any kind of concern, and I brushed her off because “you’re acting like a woman,” my superiors would immediately be so far up my ass they’d trigger my gag reflex. In addition to being very not cool, that’s a complete failure of leadership. Maybe her concerns are unfounded (Blanchard’s sure as hell weren’t), but “because she’s a woman” is not a reason for anything except which bathroom she uses. That asshole oughta be shot, too.

  19. Joseph Williams says:

What all the after actions of delays and in IMHO looking for crap to hang on her. I suspect their is Command infulence in play. Someone afraid that their lack of action is going to end their career? Joe

  20. Toasty Coastie says:

My thoughts and prayers go out to this Lady and her family. I know first hand what she went through LEADING up to the attack. I had the same thing happen to me in my CoC when I went to them about being harassed by 3 of my “shipmates” constantly. I was the only female in my unit. Can you guess what happened?

No, I was not set on fire, beaten and stabbed. I was raped repeatedly and beaten within an inch of my life. Know what happened next? After I was released from the hospital, I was given a Negative Page 7(Article 15 for you Soldier types), and transferred to a new duty station for not being a “Good Sailor”. I was an E-3 at the time. Know what happened to my “Shipmates”? A big fat fucking nothing.
My heart goes out to Katie and the the Ladies that tried to help her. In this regard, I’ve BTDT. Disgusting that nothing has changed AT ALL in the 26 years since I was retired out.

As far as that Audrey bitch goes, I hope Karma visits her in the exact same way.

Please excuse me while I go cry and have flash backs. Thank you PTS. /sarc

    • Graybeard says:

      I’m sorry TC.

Wish I could catch everyone involved for you and cut their balls off with a dull knife.

      • Toasty Coastie says:

Thank you Graybeard. I have put my trust into Lady Karma to collect payment. I will ask her to drop extra blessings to you and your family for your beautiful heart <3

    • Thunderstixx says:

Good God, that is just fucking disgusting…
My heart goes out to you Toasty.
Yet one more reason to allow concealed carry at all times.
Constitutional carry is the buzzword and human safety is the goal…
I hope that they get their asses handed back to them and karma takes an incredibly big shit on them that lasts for the rest of their lives…

    • A Proud Infidel®™ says:

I wish for each and every one of your tormentors to receive karma in as painful a way as possible much like when my now-ex Brother In Law fell while hiking and broke both legs and an arm in a remote location while hiking (He beat the crap out of my Sister while they were getting divorced).

    • Fyrfighter says:

That’s horrible Toasty, my heart goes out to you! I can’t imagine the strength it took to carry on the way you have! May karma do her worst to all those involved!

      • Toasty Coastie says:

Thank you all for your good and kind wishes. It was a very long time ago. While I am still paying the price, and always will, (the physical will never be fixed, the mental part, comes and goes), I have no idea what happened to my attackers or the Command that punished me vice the ones who hurt me.

My point wasn’t to share this with all of you for sympathy. It was merely to say that Women in Service are targets and always have been. I am sure that Ex-PH2 and other women here could tell horrendous stories of their time in as well. My incident happened over 26 years ago when it was still relatively difficult for women to Serve. I had hoped as time moved on things would have changed. Alas, it has not given the horrifying crime committed to this Lt and her rescuers.
There are still some men in positions of power and even some women who only look out for themselves and have their eyes on the $$ or promotions. They don’t care about their female troops and some even today, do not believe women should even be allowed to serve.
That is what absolutely must change. And not by stupid Power Points either. It must be instilled during Boot Camp and OCS and if dereliction of duty is found to have been a part of these attacks the punishments should be no less then Levenworth, loss of all rank and pensions and anything else of value.

So on that note, this is the first and last time I will ever talk about this. For those of you that are still active or have female relatives serving, if they come to you for help, help them. If they are full of shit, it will reveal itself. If they are not, then you need to make sure the proper channels are notified and and the proper and right investigations and outcome is secured before any more attacks happen. If anyone here is a survivor of rape and need to or want to talk, Jonn has my permission to share my email for contact. Actually, that goes for anyone. My shoulders and ears are always available to anyone who needs a friend to talk to.

Thank you all again for the kind words.

My affection to you all <3
        TC

    • Eden says:

TC, I have no words, just unrequited anger for what happened to you. I pray comfort and healing for you, spirit, soul, and body.

  21. Sparks says:

I don’t even know how to put what I am feeling into words. I wish all the best for this young lady and her family. As for the perpetrator, those in the Lt. Blanchard’s chain of command and the union president all need some serious, serious punishment. I think of what I want to do to each of them and just doesn’t seem enough.

  22. DoozyRN says:

    Wow. I hate unions.
My prayers to this brave nurse who still manages to smile. May her future be as bright as her attacker’s is dark.

  23. Tony180A says:

Best wishes to Lt. Blanchard. Rot in hell Currie and may your enablers and everyone in the chain of command who turned a blind eye get their just rewards. This is fucking infuriating!!

  24. MT FAO says:

LT Blanchard, My sincerest apologies that the Army failed you so miserably. It sickens me that the service I gave so much to let you down so badly. I wish you a speedy recovery and all the best for you and your family.

As to the chain of command at that hospital and WTU. Every single one of those officers up to the first GO should be cashiered in utter disgrace for incompetence and inability to lead. Leaders are supposed to above all lead and take care of their people. That means doing something when someone raises an issue as horrific as the actions of Mr. Currie. Having dealt with GS Civilians before, I would have enjoyed having a documented pattern of misconduct like that. There should have been no issue getting that waste of breath fired for his pattern of toxic and intimidating actions, regardless of any union BS. The lack of action is absolutely stunning. The chain of command at a minimum should have put Mr. Currie on unpaid leave and conducted an investigation. They could have referred him to the board of nursing for decertification as a nurse practitioner. They should have brought in law enforcement very early given his continued pattern of behavior of intimidation and constant threats. Even in back woods Montana that is against the law. As for that Union rep and her sick comments? She and the union should be sued for their protection of Mr. Currie and broken in court.

God this makes me so damn angry. There is no way this should have been allowed to happen by any leader.

  25. mike says:

I’m going to take the devil’s advocate side when it comes to hee supervisers because the articles I’ve read have always been vague on what was actually reported (though in hindsight were obviously true). To take action you do need facts not feelings or you end up in trouble.

It seems that these should’ve been easy to provide. Attach security reports from when she had to call them to get him away from her. Attach copies 9f the counseling statements she gave him for poor performance. I wonder if the lack of action against him is based on poor compilation of documents and facts. If so this should be a major teaching event for how to deal with events like this up and down the chain.

NOW TO BE CLEAR, statements like you’re behaving like women and she deserved it should be actionable if proven. Especially the one alleged against the union rep.

    • gitarcarver says:

      Mike,

Take a look at the Daily Beast article referenced above:

First, [Blanchard] said, she complained to Col. John Kent, who was in charge of the facility, and then to his successor, Col. David M. Cassella, who was there for only a month before the incident.

“Come to me with facts not emotion,” Cassella’s aide Lt. Col. Matthew Fandre told her and another woman officer, she said. They were complaining that his behavior was escalating—becoming more hostile and more belligerent. She had an armload of paperwork she’d filed on Currie’s poor performance and multiple threats. Fandre didn’t want to look at it.

It seems the supervisors weren’t willing to look at the documentation provided by Blanchard.

One person may be “emotional.” Two, perhaps.

Two people with documentation should not be ignored.

      Ever.

      • HMCS(FMF) ret says:

Willful dereliction of duty by all three of the officers. Their failure to do anything allowed the incident to happen and change Katie Blanchard’s life.

        Fuck them.
        Fuck their careers.

      • mike says:

The problem is that the article and quote you provide don’t show what she actually said or what documents or evidence she provided.

        • gitarcarver says:

          From the article:

She had an armload of paperwork she’d filed on Currie’s poor performance and multiple threats.

She had the documentation on his threats and the reason(s) he would be threatening her.

I have no idea what business you are in, but if a subordinate is going to walk into my office with an “armload” of documentation and concerns on an employee, I’m going to listen and not dismiss them out of hand.

You certainly are free to play, as you said, the “devil’s advocate,” but facts are against your advocacy here.

    • WhirleyGirl says:

1LT Blanchard had stacks of paperwork and write-ups about this guy– from patients and the multiple escalating encounters she had with him as well. That’s why this is so egregiously negligent. These people– her first Section Chief LTC Pascale Guirand, as well as the others already mentioned need to be held accountable for their willful negligence.

  26. A Proud Infidel®™ says:

Clifford Currie ought to have his face torn off and used for ass paper as all the higher-ups in that place get their careers flushed down the shitpipes for letting that happen.

  27. Madconductor says:

This is heartbreaking and enraging – at the same time. I wish good fortune to Lt. Blanchard. I believe Hondo has a good solution for the Union – who is totally responsible for the continued employment of such an asshole. Sue them for twice what the union assets are – settle for half and put them out of a business they have no business in.

And if any incident at a military site would need a special prosecutor, this one screams for one. There’s a chain of command that needs purging.

  28. Combat Historian says:

1LT Blanchard: God bless this young woman…

Chain of Command: Utterly and completely worthless…

Union and union rep: Sue ’em until they’re broke…

Currie: A bloody violent death in prison…

  29. Poetrooper says:

So far I’ve read a lot of anger here against the union involved and public service unions in general, anger well and truly directed in my opinion. But the 900 pound gorilla in the room here is POLITICAL CORRECTNESS rooted in the perp’s race and, I would rather suspect, that of his social justice warrior union boss.

As soon as I read that “She deserved it!” crap my first thought was why? Because she’s white? Do not lose sight of the fact this took place at a time when this SJW crap was peaking under a protective CinC and the promise of a Democrat victory and therefore the continuation of a PC military.

Public service unions, social justice warriors and Democrats are all huge proponents of political correctness as apparently is AMEDD.

    • Ex-PH2 says:

SJW crap doesn’t matter, Poetrooper, if Harris violated the 1964 Civil Rights Act Title VII, as it appears she did by saying the Lieutenant “deserved it”.

That is the real 900-lb gorilla. It applies to everyone, including butthurt black people with a chip on their shoulders. It also makes the union culpable in this case. What I found in reading the Toxic Command article is that LT Blanchard has been blocked from hearings about her using specious reasons such as the HIPPA Act, which means that unless she forces the issue, she has no access to any information or decision about her. That’s another violation.

The patient’s rights are supposed to be protected, not violated. Ditto an employee fearing harm by another employee. If Currie was not removed simply because he was black and Blanchard was white, then the 900-lb gorilla is not political correctness or the union.

I detest unions for these reasons, not to mention the greed they show every chance they get.

      • Poetrooper says:

The hell it doesn’t matter! Reverse the races of the players here and see how differently this entire situation would have played out.

C’mon, Ex-Ph2, you’re from Chicongo so you know laws, especially Civil Rights laws, don’t apply equally, if at all, to the protection of whites. And my sources in the military routinely complained during the eight years of Obama, that military regulations and justice were bent to satisfy the tenets of political correctness as well.

Had this nurse been black and the civilian employee white, those colonels would have been all over the problem and we all know it. Pretending it’s not so is not going to change or improve things. Hell that’s just practicing PC, yourself. The 900 pound gorilla most assuredly is race and political correctness, the union is merely the means of implementation.

      • Ex-PH2 says:

Oh, Poe, we’re on the same track, y’know. I was being sarcastic when I said SJWs don’t matter. I always forget the /sarc tag. My bad.

In my view, Harris violated the 1964 Civil Rights Act by failing to take steps to protect Blanchard from an employee who had made repeated threats, and then finally acted on them. That’s a clear violation of Title VII, especially since it was documented. Harris is the responsible party in this, and should be held accountable because of her attitude. The union? Haul them into court, also. They are part and parcel of it. And the officers who failed Blanchard need to be fired, not slapped on the wrist.

I’m looking at this from a civilian corporate view, not the civil service side. One report of bad behavior will get a reprimand. A second will get disciplinary action and after that, dismissed, and no unemployment compensation, either.

There was an article in the paper this morning about how bad it is becoming for people like nurses and doctors who work in public health services, especially in the prison system. It is so bad, in fact, that some of them are questioning themselves about whether or not they should even go on with it any longer. I can link to the horror stories, but I don’t think it’s necessary.

        • Poetrooper says:

“There was an article in the paper this morning about how bad it is becoming for people like nurses and doctors who work in public health services, especially in the prison system.”

What you want to bet, Ex-PH2 that everything I said in my previous responses applies in spades to those public health services?

BTW, don’t trust a pissed off old geezer to pick up on your SARC, even a geezer as incredibly brilliant as Ol’ Poe.

          Heh…

Their heads are exploding because they can’t figure out what, if anything, should outrage them.

The sane among us don’t care if the participants are male or female, white or black, young or old – criminal activity should always be reported and prosecuted by proper law enforcement authorities. Skin color, gender, age et al are not excuses for illegal activity.

      • MSG Eric says:

But she’s probably a white conservative and she’s married and doubtfully supports feminism in any way so they’ll side against her because she’s not what THEY want her to be. She made her own choices in life.

    • Poetrooper says:

As I said above…every damned one of them is afraid to say a damned word because of political correctness.

    • CPT11A says:

Bleh. Blanchard may be a woman, but she’s also white, straight, cis (what a stupid word), a mother and a member of the military. If I were a betting man, I’d say Christian and at least right-ish as well.

Leftists don’t give a fuck about her.

  31. MSG Eric says:

I have been stymied by the fact there are still UNIONS for federal government employees. With the amount of regulation and protection they get already, why is it at all legal for them to be members of a union that will protect them so vehemently in this regard?

I can see maybe city workers and private organizations having unions, but with unions like the SEIU being the largest contributor to political campaigns in the US (and I know this’ll be a total shock) and 99% of their contributions going to Democratic candidates, the problem is they have too much power and ability to do things and protect those they shouldn’t.

While dealing with GS employees is already a pain, the union part really doesn’t help at all. Same as everyone else, the emotions here to do some serious pain and permanent harm to Mr. Currie are fairly strong for me. No Mercy for him at all.

    • ifcsguy says:

Perhaps my memory is getting dim, but don’t I rightly recall Reagan clobbering a union that represented government employees? Didn’t that do anything to slow down their infestation? Hell, ATC folks probably have a new union today. Hope this new guy will do more of what Reagan did in that regard.

      • Eden says:

All of the FAA personnel who were hired after Reagan fired all of the striking union members are now hitting mandatory retirement age. And yes, they do have a new union now.

      “Not guilty”?

What, by reason of insanity? All twelve of them?

    • Ex-PH2 says:

He does at least have one guilty finding, which I’m sure will get an appeal. Let’s hope any appeal goes against him. I do not think he belongs in a civilized setting at all. But the news of this guilty verdict coincides with a disturbing story that the one remaining scumbag from a group of 4 in the 1980s, who hunted for lone women, raped, tortured and murdered them (some were never found, and may never be) in horrifying ways is due for release from prison. The brother of one of his victims wants him to stay in jail, period. They were called the Ripper Gang, based on the way they tortured and raped their female victims.
      http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/ct-ripper-crew-met-20170811-story.html

Prisoners not only don’t like child abusers, they also do not like those who torture and murder women.
Three of these beasts are dead. Two were executed, one died in prison and the last one is facing release. No one wants him out of jail, period.

This Currie person fits right into that same mould. I think that 20 years is too little for him to face, since LT Blanchard has to live with what he did to her for the rest of her life.
