Noam Chomsky; the blind squirrel finds a nut

| August 22, 2017 | 38 Comments

According to the Washington Examiner, Noam Chomsky doesn’t like the so-called “anti-fa”. Chomsky has had a hard time not liking anything on the political US Left, but these criminals seem to rub him the wrong way;

[Chomsky] says the anti-fascists feed the fire they seek to extinguish.

“As for Antifa, it’s a minuscule fringe of the Left, just as its predecessors were,” Noam Chomsky told the Washington Examiner. “It’s a major gift to the Right, including the militant Right, who are exuberant.”

Many activists affiliated with the loosely organized Antifa movement consider themselves anarchists or socialists. They often wear black and take measures to conceal their identity.

Chomsky said, “what they do is often wrong in principle – like blocking talks – and [the movement] is generally self-destructive.”

That’s further than the US Civil Rights Commission was willing to go when they had an opportunity to condemn the violence committed by “anti-fa” in a vote, according to Fox News;

On “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” [Commissioner Peter] Kirsanow said the commission unanimously agreed that white nationalists and neo-Nazis should be condemned for their role in the violence, but the Democratic commissioners resisted including Antifa in the resolution because of their own political leanings.

“That type of viewpoint discrimination is antithetical to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights,” Kirsanow said. “You could easily say that if the situation were reversed 50 years ago, where would the United States Commission on Civil Rights be?”

He’s serious. And so screwed up that it’s funny. Obviously, Common Sense is not a requirement of the Civil Rights Commission.

  3. Ex-PH2 says:

Told you so. The more those screeching SJW howler monkeys under any idiotic self-label screech, shout, throw things and try to destroy us, the more people they push over to the right-hand side of the political fence, especially those who were mostly undecided.

    He is right.

  5. Thunderstixx says:

The pukes on the left that pull shit like they do are a direct result of the whiny liberals that feed the entire machine known as the demonrat party, which includes him.
Keep it up assholes, pretty soon you’re going to bite off a great big chunk of this shitburger and you ain’t gonna like the taste of it…

  6. Martinjmpr says:

The militant left has never done well in this country, at least not since WWII. Their most effective foot soldiers prior to the war were striking workers but after the war, the “workers of the world” realized they could do better for themselves by working within the system and so they joined the mainstream.

  7. A Proud Infidel®™ says:

The more people see of them pulling their shittyassed stunts, the more they come to our side of the political fence, keep converting people to our side, you inbred fleabags! And if you’re SUCH a fragile snowflake that a mere statue offends you into next week I suggest you call for a *WAAAAAAH*mbulance to come give you a peanut butter sandwich, some Kool-Aid and a group hug while everyone sings “Kum-ba-yah!

Alan Dershowitz, who is a liberal Democrat and Harvard law professor emeritus, has this to say about Antifa:

“Dershowitz: Many of Those Tearing Down Statues Want to ‘Tear Down America'”

‘Alan Dershowitz warned that many of those tearing down Confederate and other statues are trying to take America down with them.

“Antifa is a radical anti-American, anti-free market, communist, socialist, hard, hard left censorial organization that tries to stop speakers on campuses,” the Harvard law professor emeritus told “Fox & Friends” on Tuesday.

The violent anti-Trump group participated in riots responding to the violent white nationalist rally that left one dead in Charlottesville, Virginia earlier this month. The riots left statues from Confederate generals to Christopher Columbus to Abraham Lincoln defaced and in some cases torn down.

Dershowitz noted that some statues put up during the Civil Rights era were meant to intimidate. Those should perhaps be moved to museums, he suggested, to teach students about how statues can be used for bad purposes.

However, doing “what Stalin did, just erasing history and rewriting it to serve current purposes does poses a danger” and amounts to “educational malpractice,” the lawyer said.

“Once you start rewriting history of African Americans in this country, you have to start rewriting history of discrimination against many many other groups,” he said. “We’re both a nation of immigrants and a nation of discrimination against immigrants.”

“I’m a liberal, and I think it’s the obligation of liberals to speak out against the hard left radicals just like it’s the obligation of conservatives to speak out against the extremism of the hard right,” the lifelong Democrat stated.’

  9. Dave Hardin says:

Everyone knows the fatuous verdict of the great Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes, who, asked for an actual example of when it would be proper to limit speech or define it as an action, gave that of shouting “fire” in a crowded theatre.

It is very often forgotten that what he was doing in that case was sending to prison a group of Yiddish-speaking socialists, whose literature was printed in a language most Americans couldn’t read, opposing President Wilson’s participation in the First World War, and the dragging of the United States into this sanguinary conflict, which the Yiddish-speaking socialists had fled from Russia to escape.

Every American should have a course in the classic texts on this matter, which are: John Milton’s Areopagitica – being the great hill of Athens for discussion and free expression; Thomas Paine’s introduction to the Age of Reason; John Stuart Mill’s essay On Liberty.

It’s not just the right of the person who speaks to be heard, it is the right of every citizen to listen and to hear. And, every time you silence somebody, you make yourself a prisoner of your own action, because you deny yourself the right to hear something.

“I have always strenuously supported the right of every man to his own opinion, however different that opinion might be to mine. He who denies to another this right, makes a slave of himself to his present opinion, because he precludes himself the right of changing it.”
― Thomas Paine, The Age of Reason

I argue that it is every Americans Right to hate…or to love…or to partake in the milk toast of apathy. Speech is the vibration of thought, who dare criminalize thought?

It is the actions of our fellow citizens that should be judged. Have my fellow citizens forgotten…or never learned…that being American requires us to stand and defend our neighbors right to shout that which we have spent a lifetime in opposition to?

I will close with this and go back to my duties as the Village Idiot:

If we don’t believe in freedom of expression for people we despise, we don’t believe in it at all. —-Noam Chomsky

How come none of these numbskulls have burned books yet? When does that start? They tried burning flags has fall and that didn’t work, because they burned flags that weren’t theirs. So when are they going to burn books?

    • Mick says:

Sadly, that’s probably just around the corner…

    • Dave Hardin says:

I predict “they” will, hate speech as an entity in a free society is an oxymoron. “They” will probably start with books like:

The Tyranny of Experts or White mans Burden.

Being provocative is hateful in 2017.

    • Mick says:

Book Burning — Historical Film Footage: Books burn as Goebbels speaks

    • Ex-PH2 says:

Well, from what I’ve found by digging for it, if you’re going to have a public bonfire, you have to get a permit. You have to notify the Fire Departments, too. That means that you can’t just start a fire in the public square and toss books into it, or LPs that you spent money on and want to burn (vinyl!!! very poisonous!!!) because you didn’t like what John Lennon said about the Beatles being more popular than Jesus.

If they plan to do that, they may try but I don’t think they’ll get very far with it. You can’t, for instance, burn books published on Kindle of Nook or whatever, can you? No, this will all require some special snowflake stupidity just to get it going.

If only someone could show up online or on TV and say ‘Whaddaya, stoopid er somethin’?’

  11. Deplorable B Woodman says:

Noam Chomp-me may have gotten one-in-a-row correct, but the only thing I’ll be giving him is my used excreted butt nuggets, if he cares to get them out of the bowl before I flush.

And, to paraphrase, it’s, you can’t yell “FIRE” FALSELY in a crowded theater. Justice Holmes wasn’t going to stop anyone from giving warning in an emergency.

  12. 11B-mailclerk says:

Anti-Free may indeed be a violent-but-tiny-fringe of the Left.

The SturmAbteilung was a small violent-but-tiny-fringe of Socialists in Germany, until the SA were unopposed so long they grew huge and began to scare the daylights out of the freaking SS of their fellow National Socialists.

The time to denounce and oppose violent thugs is -early- and -often-.

  13. Mark Lauer says:

That crash you just heard was me falling off my bar stool.
Chomsky actually taking a position AGAINST leftists?

Maybe he’s a little smarter than we thought.

  14. Jeff LPH 3, 63-66 says:

How about tearing down the democratic party as I have mentioned in the past. these are the peeps whom the kkk worked for and democrats were also members. they were also the segregationists and the ones whom voted against the 1964 civil rights act. These are the ones who want to keep the welfare system so the poor can vote for them. These are the ones who did not want the free slaves to own fire arms. Only person I hear say this is Mike Huckabee just like the 1952 national immigration act which carter and der monarch obama used but a no go for the current Pres. This info should be shown on tv, internet and bill boards.

  15. Perry Gaskill says:

The majority of news media wants to absolve Antifa and other leftist groups of any responsibility because it fits the goal of getting rid of President Trump. It’s part of a strategy of using any means necessary.

It seems to me there are two main issues currently driving the radical left: 1) ICE, deportations, open borders, and 2) Hillary lost, globalism, and open borders. Most of the U.S. national press is also pushing this agenda because to avoid an existential threat, it has started to move into global markets. It’s also likely because eight years of fawning over Barack Obama eliminated their ability to be critical of the left. Such fawning might have been driven by wanting to avoid appearing racist no matter what the circumstances, or because the quid pro quo nature of the business caused a shift over time.

Nor is it about the law anymore; apparently emotion and the mob (or potential voters) counts more.

In a story running today on the Huffington Post, Arizona Representative Raúl Grijalva is quoted as saying that enforcing the law against illegal immigration is Trump wanting “to coddle and comfort the alt-right and extremists in his base at the expense of the rest of us.” Apparently if you’re Grijalva, pandering to your “us” Latino voter base is more acceptable than enforcement of the law or sovereignty supported by a majority of all Americans. Who is being the racist?

Such Grijalva support also likely comes from those such as Noemi Romero, an illegal who was working in a grocery store in 2013 when she was arrested and thrown in jail for two months. Romero, still apparently a non-citizen, is evidently of the view that border security is racist.

According to Romero, “We’re not going to accept white supremacy…We are not pardoning white supremacy under this administration.”

It can make you wonder if Noemi’s “we” refers to the editorial voice, represents all illegals, or if she merely has a frog in her pocket. Who is being the bigot?

Another interesting example of how far the whole white oppression thing can be carried was a recent curious piece in Vice by a Lebanese guy named Mike Miksche. It’s about how stressful it is to try to “pass” as white folk now when you’re just a poor misunderstood Arab immigrant. In point of fact, Miksche and his immediate family look about as ethnic as Gene Wilder.

  16. Stephen McCartney says:

This is reminiscent of the Cultural Revolution in Red China (circa the 60’s). Their hatred and anger will eat them up as well as the fools who try to “align” with them. The member’s credibility will be executed and them removed. Look at the video of the Antifa thug slugging the BLM who asked him to remove the bandana.
They will eat themselves up as it all unravels.

It is ALL because Hillary lost.
They can’t get over it and Soros is funding it.
The Confederate statue issue is ALL because the entire South went for POTUS in 2016 election and this is payback
