Tobin Lee McGuffin; phony SEAL

| February 19, 2018 | 183 Comments

Someone shared their work on this Tobin Lee McGuffin. He also goes by Cody McGuffin, Cody Lee McGuffin, Lee Cody McGuffin, Arthur Lee Grey, Tobin Cody McGuffin, Lee McGuffin, and Lee Grey. I’m sure there are more names, but those are all I know about. He’s in Wisconsin for the time being, but he’s been living in Wyoming, Montana, North and South Carolina, Alabama and Virginia. It’s as if he is on the run, isn’t it?

As you can tell from his little cap, he claims to have been a Navy SEAL. Of course, if you ask to see his records, he’ll tell you they’re classified, but not so classified that he can’t wear that cap. Do real SEALs ever wear that fugly cap?

He was in the Navy, for eighteen months 1978-1979, as a machinist mate aboard the submarine USS Francis Scott Key while it was stationed at Rota Spain. He went up and down the rate scale until he bumped up against a summary court martial and found himself out on the street.

No SEAL training or assignments. He does have a bunch of war stories about things that never happened.

Jesus. The phony SEALs are running up the score here and I don’t think there is any way for the Army posers to catch up at this point.

  2. Wilted Willy says:

Please Army, we can beat these phony ass SEAL’s?
How hard can it be to lie your ass off, buy a phony hat, get a dog and a motorcycle and don’t forget that one poser standby, a dog and a doo rag! I mean really WTF do we have to do to beat Navy? Just think like it’s football??

I dont understand why you all waste so much time worrying about people who do this. Its kind of sad to see grown men jump all over someone who is just trying to show their pride in this country, by saying they were part of something bigger than themselves. It doesnt hurt anyone, that some old man says these things

    • Jonn Lilyea says:

Yeah, it’s his pride in his country that made him do this.

    • Wilted Willy says:

In case you don’t understand, these cocksuckers are lying about service to this great nation! They didn’t have the balls to actually accomplish these deeds they lie about and they stand in the blood of those who did! Do you get the picture now snowflake??

    • Skidmark says:

Oh poor Sharon, you’re delusional that this doesn’t hurt anyone. Are you the same Sharon that stuck up for a previous phony recently? If you are, you were wrong then and you’re wrong now. These phonies lie, cheat and steal…there’s a reason those words are always used together in sentences; If you’re a liar, you’re generally a thief…If you’re a thief you’re always a liar, see, these all go hand in hand. The countless victims of these posers need a voice, these good Veterans that out these fools are that voice. Good honest people have sacrificed their lives for this great country, and to have their sacrifice stepped on by these degenerates is a shame and intolerable.
Sharon, next time you want to say something so ignorant…Don’t. Thanks.

    • IDC SARC says:

Military Service and Honor has a place with us Vets that you Sharon Nickols, will never know. Many of us here at TAH have BTDT and deployed in harm’s way, some multiple tines, myself included. We see those like who you are sticking up for as dregs, those who decided to be sub-par and get thrown out for being that suddenly want to falsely claim to be what they weren’t, LIARS who didn’t hold their own weight, carry even their own load and now they want to ride the coattails of those who have. I myself did a mere three years of Active Duty and came back in after a NINE year break in service in order to get deployed which I did twice! That dreg you speak for IS NOT “showing patriotism” as you say, he’s claiming to be something he never was and he’s getting the ridicule due him.

    • Claw says:

      “grown men”

Ha. Just wait till the TAH Lionesses get here.

      The blood will flow……!!!!!

Sharon Nicols says of posts regarding Stolen Valor, “It doesnt hurt anyone, that some old man says these things….”

Sharon. There are those here who would be glad to walk you through what Stolen Valor means and why exposing phonies, frauds, and liars is so important. Me, I’m not one of those. There simply is too much info here, there, and everywhere regarding this issue, so I’m not about to do your homework for you. I’m being nice. I really want to tell you to GFY but I won’t, not yet, anyway.

    • Mick says:

“It doesnt hurt anyone, that some old man says these things”

      Oh, yes it does.

Ask yourself what/how much this poser may have swindled out of any number of innocent, gullible others with his lies about being a SEAL.

We’ve proven time and time again here at TAH that Stolen Valor IS NOT a victimless crime.

    • Ex-PH2 says:

Oh, Sharon, Sharon, Sharon, you damned fool!

If it makes you bitter to realize that you’ve been hoodwinked by a con artist, that’s just tough bananas, kiddo.

This “Tobin” person is only in this for himself. NOT for you, NOT for vets, NOT for anyone else – just himself. He’s a screw-up, period. He couldn’t even finish one full hitch in the Navy – got thrown out like the trash he is.

And you’re falling for his BS, too. He seems to be really good at finding suckers to leech off of. And what harm does it do? People like “Tobin” steal from real vets, not simply in lying about service (if they had any at all), but by defrauding people like you.

Get over it, deal with like a grownup, confront him, and move on. There are better fish in the sea than this lying son of a tick-infested jackanapes.

I sure hope your relationship with him didn’t go any further than a handshake and a cup of coffee.

    • HMCS(FMF) ret says:

Sharon – if you ever served (and I’m guessing that by the ignorance of your statement, you haven’t) you would understand that we take our service (and for some sacrifice) seriously. So let me sum it up for you, snowflake princess…

      SIT. DOWN. SHUT. UP.

      Get it?

    • Jeff LPH 3, 63-66 says:

Hey Sharon, We gave you your Nickol’s worth to speak, so let me put in my two sense. I think that you are a very gullible snowflake and maybe you should spend more time sitting around a campfire singing koombya and banging sticks together singing Sara Sponda Sara Sponda. If one says that they were part of something bigger than themselves and they were not, well that’s what this site is all about.

    • Civilwarrior says:

Sharon, I’m going to take a wild ass scientific guess and say that you never served. Phony balonies like this douchecanoe piss us off because they pretend to be something they weren’t. Using your logic, it would be okay for me to claim that I was “Special Forces” because I was OPCONNED to a CA Det back when the fell under to SOCOM umbrella. Fine. Fuck it. I’m pretty much a Green Beret then. Such bullshit.

    • SFC D says:

It’s Sharin’ Peters! Good morning Snookums!

    • NHSparky says:

Ever attend the funeral of a legit service member, especially one who has served in the SEAL community?

That’s fucking why, sweetheart. He was a gutless turd and a loser dirtbag who was shown the door for being such a jackwagon. He wouldn’t have lasted 2 days at BUD/S, and I don’t mean the physical part.

See, most folks, but especially in the elite communities, place a high value on integrity, something your boy Tobin seriously lacks. He earns our scorn and contempt because he couldn’t even do his job in the Navy, but he’s going to claim to be a member of a very small and elite community? For what purpose?

And oh yeah–as has been demonstrated many, many times before, Stolen Valor is usually just one indicator or other shitbaggery.

Now do I need you to write that on your hand and smack yourself in the head so it sinks in, or will this explanation suffice?

    • Sparks says:

      Oh Boy! A Chew Toy!

    • Mason says:

He had so much patriotism that he got NJP and a summary court martial in just over a year. That’s impressive commitment to fuckupery.

      • NHSparky says:

Looking at the timeline, I’d say his shitbaggery went past plaid into full potato.

First mast in March, last mast and court martial in July. Four fucking months.

And no doubt that doesn’t include all the “help” he got from his division, report chits, and times he got sent to XOI but didn’t go to mast as a result.

That’s some weapons grade douchetool shit right there.

    • Combat Historian says:

    Hello Fellow Service Members,

Our names are Destin Foree, Kayla Rogers, and Dylan Dingels. We were all volunteers of the Veterans Fishing Foundation (VFF). The principles behind the foundation changed our lives dramatically as well as gave us a purpose, and we have decided this opportunity cannot stop. The idea behind this foundation allowed every Veteran the ability to relax, rehabilitate and reintegrate. In which every honorably discharged Veteran has earned.

We are greatly saddened to have to inform the members of the Veterans Fishing Foundation that we have learned that our founder Cody Mcguffin was exaggerating his claims about his military service. As reported by a Veteran Blog (see link this link http://thisainthell.us/blog/?p=77811). It is for this reason that we feel this page must be removed and we are starting over from the place of integrity and honor.

As honorably discharged Veterans who have been significantly changed through the principles of the VFF we have established a new foundation called Operation Reel Vets. Please work with us as we are still in the process of rebuilding the nonprofit organization. We will be changing the current Facebook page name to Operation Reel Vets and changing the website to http://www.OperationReelVets.org.

Thank you for your patience while we rebuild this organization with integrity and honor.

    – 25 May 79 CO’s NJP

    – 20 Jul 79 CO’s NJP

    – 26 Jul 79 Summary Court Martial

    A real stellar performer.

How the hell do you get Captain’s Mast and then 6 days later get Court Martialed? On the way out the door from mast fire up a doobie? This guy is special in a special feces kinda way.

      • Jeff LPH 3, 63-66 says:

RM3; I don’t feel too bad now about this. I went to Capt’s mast on a deriliction of duty charge because I didn’t check the low pressure air compressor down in the boiler room while on cold iron watch while in dry dock in the Philly yards. It wasn’t logged in the log book as running so I did not check it and it ran out of oil. Navy equipment always seem to leak so that’s why there are those 2 inch high flat iron around the machinery. A- Gang is auxilliary so we maintained everything from the ships horn down to the reefer flats. Turns out that I got a suspended bust and was asked to re enlist some time before I got out. Did a couple of years in Inactive Reserve after my 3 year Kiddie Cruise in 1966. Ship went over to San Diego and Viet Nam in 1967. In those days, US Navy ships were held together with Permatex adhesive. I’m sure you 1950’s greaser’s remember Permatex in a tube.

Just so you know, they never have the caps with the BASS (Big Ass SEAL Shield) out in front on display.

You have to ask and they have to go in the back and get one from a special section of the storeroom.

  18. mr. sharkman says:

‘Do real SEALs ever wear that fugly cap?’

    SFC Lilyea,

As mentioned in the comments section for a different phony – due to the prominently displayed Budweiser, the answer is likely ‘no’.

Most caps/insignia that are ‘legit’ would not have any inscription(s) and/or insignia that an outsider would ID as anything relating to NSW. But of course such an authentic cap would be useless to a phony trying to portray himself as a current and/or former Teamguy.

  19. mr. sharkman says:

    Army, you know I love ‘ya. Nothing but respect for Army. They do it all;

Scalpel; my Brothers in Army SF
Really sharp, heavy knife or tomahawk (;) ); Army Rangers (Lead the Way!)
Anvil and Hammer; Big Army, Mech. Inf, Armor, etc.
Death from the Skies; AH-64s and Friends

But until hollyweird cranks out 3 or 4 super cheesy, stupid movies about the above listed badasses, and the guys involved write 20+ cheesy books – some of them full of BS (see: The Red Circle, etc.) – you simply can’t compete with the hype and attendant propaganda effects, I don’t see any hope for you all in the Total Phonies Category when it comes to any Stolen Valor contest, race, etc.

                • 2/17 Air Cav says:

Day #5. All kidding aside, Kayla Rogers asked Jonn to remove this post. She wrote, “It is for this reason that we feel this page must be removed…” She explained that she is a volunteer for a Vet fishing charity which was established by Cody McGuffin, a/k/a a/k/a Cody Lee McGuffin, a/k/a Lee Cody McGuffin, a/k/a Arthur Lee Grey, a/k/a Tobin Cody McGuffin, a/k/a Lee McGuffin. The connection between between SV and other bad acts being well established, I asked her for a few simple things, including the registered name of the charity and in what state or states it is registered. I also asked her for the officers names. These questions were not even met with “on advice of my attorney….” but were ignored. That raises bright red flags of suspicion and prompts me to wonder about the legitimacy of the charity for which the founder, Mr. Alias, solicited donations. That’s my recap and the record. I’ll keep waiting for her response.

  30. Starbux says:

Hey man his records are classified! They are super secret squirrel classified, level 10. They are in a SCIF at area 51 or is Area 52? Anyway they are next to project Blue Book and the Alien Autopsy reports, bwahahaha. In it his is medical file where he got an anal probe while investigating the alien crash as Roswell.

  31. Casie McGuffin Price says:

It’s sad to say this man is my father or should I say sperm donor! He is a lying pieces of shit and a sorry excuse for a human being. I’m truly sorry for any hurt he has caused anyone and I pray you all have learned who he truly is and that you stay clear of him !!!!!

  32. 2/17 Air Cav says:

I am perplexed and mystified that Kayla has not responded. I don’t like feeling that way so I decided to check on Veterans Fishing Foundation. I found an article from Hawaii that features Mr Alias. It seems a nice doctor donated a boat to the VFF but–and you’re not going to believe this–the state of Hawaii has no charity by the name Veterans Fishing Foundation. At least, when I checked, it came up with an alert saying that there is no charity by that name. This makes me wonder who, exactly, has title to the vessel and whether someone was snookered. The article also mentions St Petersburg, FL so I checked that state’s records. No VVF. I don’t get it. Golly. Could it be? From the article, the link to which is below: “VFF and the captain and crew of The Ku‘uipo at Ku‘uipo Sport Fishing will provide at no cost trophy fishing charters for veterans Monday through Friday, Feb. 5 through 16, 2018. Lunch and drinks will be provided.

The charter boat will leave Honokōhau Harbor located at 74-380 Kealakehe Parkway in Kailua-Kona at approximately 6:30 a.m. daily beginning Monday, Feb. 5.”

I really wish Kayla would stop by again to explain this mess before the AG’s office rings.

    https://bigislandnow.com/2018/02/01/local-doctor-donates-fishing-vessel-for-veterans/

  33. 2/17 Air Cav says:

Thanks for the email address, Kayla, but I won’t be using it. This isn’t a personal issue, this Veterans Fishing Foundation charity business. My interest is in doing what I can to ensure that a charity that claims to exist to benefit Veterans and solicits donations toward that end is a legitimate charity that does what it says. I find it rather coincidental that the same day I post the link to the article regarding the donated boat is the day that you finally comment again here. I have no doubt that you were taking a look-see and hoping that this would just blow away. It won’t. The can of worms is opened and the little buggers are crawling around. If I were you, I would first contact the doctor who donated the boat and come clean with him. I would then set about establishing a registered charity, in accordance with Hawaii law, as well as Federal law, if the charity is a nonprofit 501(c)(3). But, hey, that’s what I would do. In the meantime, I expect, other people will be asking you and yours more questions more formally.

    • Kayla says:

When it’s al legit and up and running legally and all details will be shared as far as our new foundation moving forward, the new pages will be up you can see any info you’d like to see I want to distance ourselves and “our” mission as far away from Cody as possible but as you know these things take time… no boats by us have been fished since and will not be fished without all the proper and legal protection… give us a chance it doesn’t happen over night unless it’s for pure profit and going into someone’s pocket! Not the case here!

    • Destin Foree says:

      2/17 Air Cav,

This is Destin a former volunteer with VFF. just so you know Kayla Dylan and myself posted on the VFF Facebook wall to inform the followers of the vff that the founder one Tobin McGuffin was a fraud and we were shutting down the Facebook page. We never wanted the TAH article removes. We have been in contact with TAH as well as the Attorney General’s office in Wyoming where the charity was founded. I was the one that initially looked into Tobin McGuffin claims and requested verification that he was or wasn’t Navy SEAL from Don Shipley and SOCNET. The initial request to SOCNET was on 6th February and to mr. Shipley very shortly after that. We submitted the information that we have to TAH before this was published and have been in contact with the Wyoming Attorney General and FBI throughout this because like you we don’t want to see veterans or donors or anyone for that matter get ripped off. The doctors boat is safe it has not been transferred and he is aware that Tobin McGuffin is a con man. Kayla Dylan and myself would be happy to share all of the information that we have to include all of the email and text message traffic showing when we discovered that Tobin McGuffin was a fraud and when it was reported so that you have a complete picture of what occurred. I can very much appreciate your desire to see that this is not allowed to happen and it is for that reason that I would like to share everything. If you look at Cody McGuffin on Facebook and look at his comments you will see that he is attacking me because he holds me responsible for providing the information that was published by TAH. He has been very quick to attempt to do damage control spinning this to play the victim to keep his charity open. hopefully you can understand that because of the potential for fraud we contacted the Attorney General and donors and there are underlying circumstances that required we wait before making all of the information available. While I don’t know if the Attorney General plans to take any action at this time we would like to ensure that as many people as possible are made aware of what Tobin McGuffin is doing and they can form their own opinions. like I said we have nothing to hide and I’ve done nothing wrong other than falling for his BS, which when you see how it was to be done is pretty slick. I have spoken to Mr Shipley on several occasions and after discussing with Kayla and Dylan we will be contacting him again to try to make this phony SEAL as famous as possible. So you let me know what information you would like to see. Sorry if you think we didn’t respond fast enough but some of us have things to do and I’ve been trying to ensure that people don’t get screwed over and that’s what my priority has been since it was discovered that this guy was a fraud. So let me know how I can get in touch with you because you seem to be someone that has no love for these POS fakers and knows how to spread the message so that they’re not able to do this again. By all means please contact the Wyoming AG POC Ms Miranda Shelton at 307-877-2113 or mshelton@lcwy.org or myself docforee@gmail.com

  34. 2/17 Air Cav says:

I get that you want to establish a legal and legitimate charity, to separate yourself from Mr. Alias, and to start anew. In my view, that’s not nearly enough. There was a charity with which you were closely associated and that charity solicited donations. According to a news article, the charity accepted a boat from a donor. If that charity was not registered and the donations it received were going into the pocket, so to speak, of individuals running that charity, well, that’s fraud and that’s a crime. I suggest that you contact the appropriate authorities and lay out all that you know about the charity you say was established by Mr. Alias. I also suggest again that you contact the boat donor and tell him what’s going on. Title to that boat is in someone’s name. If your hands are clean regarding the VFF, you will have no reservations about doing this. If they’re not, well, it’s just a matter of time. This isn’t some old movie in which a group of youngsters say, “Come on, gang. Let’s put on a show!” This is the real world and charities have legal constraints and obligations that must be honored. If you need to know what authorities to contact to provide a complete account of your unregistered charity, just ask.

    • OWB says:

Good. Now it sounds like we may be getting somewhere.

It’s not like you asked anyone to compromise any criminal investigation which may be going on, A/C. Just a few reasonable questions to help all of us determine whether there was a legal resolution in the offing or a re-run of the typical poser dance routine.

Kayla. There are many people here, starting with Jonn Lilyea, whose individual and aggregate knowledge I find incredible. If you visit here often enough, you will be astounded. Most of us are Veterans but not all. Those who are not are beloved Gold Star Moms, firefighters, you name it. I do believe that you are sincere about straightening matters out regarding VFF. I wish you well in that, and I hope that you will first clean the slate with the boat donor and others who may have been taken in by Mr. Alias. Updates here will be welcome.

      Aloha to 2/17 Cav,

Destin here, just wanted to follow up and let you know that we appreciate the advice. The things that you have suggested have been done the Wyoming Attorney General as well as the FBI where contacted immediately after this being published on the TAH blog. The boat donor was made aware of what’s going on the day I confirmed that AKA McMuffin was not a Navy SEAL and that there would be blowback from his claims that would negatively impact this Foundation and the doctor’s lawyer is digging into the foundation paperwork to determine if there is any legitimacy to the foundation. The boat is safely stored still in the doctors name and no transfer paperwork has been completed and will not be done until it is determined that the foundation is legit which at this point we all highly doubt, as this is not the first time low speed high drag Cody McMuffin has attempted to form a 501 c 3. What really bothers Kayla Dylan and myself is that we are not stupid people we searched for information about this guy and couldn’t turn up anything that would make us question his intentions although it was only a cursory internet search. Lesson learned there conduct a full background check prior to getting involved in any business dealings with someone you have only known for a short period of time. at this point we are at somewhat of a standstill as to which direction to go now. As I said the Wyoming attorney general and FBI have been made aware, the donors lawyer will be requesting information from the foundation or the IRS as to the status of the charity. The charity was incorporated in Wyoming and has an EIN number but since I am not a member I cannot be told if the charity has even submitted a request for the 501 c tax exempt status and according to the IRS the Foundation has 27 months to submit that request. during that time the foundation is allowed to accept donations however donors must be made aware that a 501 c 3 tax exempt status has not been granted and the foundation is not allowed to state that they are a 501 c 3 tax exempt organization when soliciting donations which is something that McGuffin has done giving donors the false impression that the organization is an approved tax exempt 501 c 3 and because the boat was donated to be used by the foundation and ongoing operations a receipt for the donation should have been provided within 30 days. So if anyone has any additional ideas of what we need to do we would greatly appreciate your advice as we want to make sure that mr. Alias is not able to do this again. If you’re looking for some interesting reading with comedic value you should look at Cody McGuffin Facebook page. There are people crawling out of the Woodworks to lay out all of the things this man is done and he continues to use me as a tool to deflect all of the attention off of his self telling anyone who will listen that I’m the liar, I’m the guy who’s out to ruin his foundation when it’s nothing more then his ego that ruined his foundation. Even if this Foundation was legitimate claiming to be a Navy SEAL in a veterans organization was not a smart move knowing that it would be looked into at some point but his ego wouldn’t let that go. we do want to establish a legitimate charity to help vets. Many people would question how fishing is helping but I will tell you from personal experience the support networks built during these trips are something that a veteran could spend years trying to establish after leaving the military and you just can’t find that in a lot of places and that’s the reason that carrying on is so important to the three of us as well as some other unnamed Veterans who have poured their time and effort into making the veterans fishing Foundation a success. Anyway thank you again to everyone for the advice and please if you think of anything else by all means let us know.
