Afghans train female soldiers

| April 13, 2012

A Reuters article tells of the 12 women in the Afghan Army who are assisting ANA troops in night raids;

“Before we joined this unit, our operations were done by foreign troops and they did not know our culture. People were critical so we joined to help out,” [SGT Sara] Delawar, a former policewoman in Jowzjan province, said.

“I have already fought the Taliban. My comrades were martyred in fights with the Taliban and we have killed them too, but during the night raids I haven’t fought insurgents yet.”

Fluent in four local languages, Delawar is one of only 12 female soldiers who has been trained to fight and conduct searches in what is an attempt to pay greater respect to cultural sensitivities.

Yeah, that’s going to piss off the Taliban. I’m surprised Karzai or the Obama Administration would go along with it.

    If your enemy is pissed at you, you must be doing something right. 😉

    The ladies would probably do a better job than the males

    An odd effort, given that Karzai confirmed his support of the religious edict stating “”Men are fundamental and women are secondary.”

  4. /There’s not a damn thing we can do that will really help those people…and when we leave, they’ll just rape and kill those female soldiers.

    I wonder if Karzai or some of the mullahs are going to order the women to protect their wives and female children, once the westerners leave? For some reason ‘harem guard’ came to mind as about the only justification the mullahs might accept.

    I don’t have a problem with this in theory, I curious to how it works in practice. The avergae woman is not and will never be the equivalent of the average man physically. Opconning for certain missions and assigning them to their own unit is probably the best option. Only a hundred isn’t alot though.

    Sorry can’t get video to play. PC giving me trouble lately.
