Missing the point on Stolen Valor

| July 3, 2012

We’ve been getting email over the last several days from some of our valor thieves demanding that we remove the posts about them. Yeah, that’s not going to happen. They claim that the Supreme Court has made their sociopathic behavior legal, while that’s somewhat correct, the Supreme Court did not make what we do illegal. Justice Kennedy wrote that the remedy for false speech is more speech and TAH is more speech.

Our idiot buddy, Dallas Wittgenfeld, thinks that somehow coming on a forum chocked full of veterans and telling us that the Supreme Court protects his false claims is some sort of rational defense for his “costume”.

He tried to get TSO fired from his job, but since TSO’s employers know that busting phonies and sociopaths is his job, they gave him a pass. So Wittgenfeld took to putting graffiti on the internet with pictures of TSO with a line drawing of a penis on his face – now I thought that was funny. TSO is posting about it later, and I’m sure you’ll get a chuckle, too.

But Wittgenfeld, along with Jonathon the Inhaler Sharkey have missed the whole point of the Supreme Court decision – the judges decided that we’re doing a fine job of policing the internet of phonies and that the possibility that the government could abuse the Stolen Valor Act outweighed the need for criminalization of the phonies.

So after engaging in verbal battle with Mr. The Inhaler all day Saturday, he tried to convince me that I should go into business with him – a true sociopath. And because I said he must be insane, he said I don’t care about veterans. Whatever. Anyway, this is a teaser for TSO’s tome, so stand by for the longest blog post on TAH ever.

Admin send me all you think you have on ole Thunder Chicken I got something for his ass real soon. Free speech does not give you the right to earn money off of the tears and blood of wounded Warriors…

  2. JAGC says:

Like you said, if these people would actually read the opinion, it says quite plainly that the legal and most appropriate method of dealing with such liars and frauds is to really pile on the public shame and scorn. So you are merely doing what the Court suggested. But I suppose it’s too much to ask that valor thieves actually read the opinion prior to citing it.

  3. Eric says:

Funny that he claims its all real until the SC decision, then he’s saying its alright for him to be a poser. Interesting…

But then, there should be hope that this next year we will see the improved version of the SVA. So I suppose they’ll go back to denying it again? Such strange tidings.

And thanks again for having this site here, not just for fakes but all the other information you present here. Quite informative and insightful. Something I found when I was in Afghanistan when I read about that SSG Marquez guy who claimed to have been in Viet Nam? Glad I found it.

  4. Old Tanker says:

Oh, this is going to be fun….I’m getting the popcorn ready now!

  5. Jumpmaster says:

Time to turn up the heat on these POSers.

  6. Jeff says:

Holy hell I just read the blog about that bag of smashed assholes Sharkey for the first time and had the most fun I’ve had all week!

  7. Just A Grunt says:

Too bad the pogue couldn’t read to at least page 3 of the decision. He would have found this in Justice Kennedy’s decision.

“And it has not shown, and cannot show, why counterspeech, such as the ridicule respondent received online and in the press, would not suffice to achieve its interests.”

In other words Justice Kennedy applauds the work being done by folks like TAH, POWNetwork, Doug Sterner et al in naming and shaming these frauds.

The courts ruling mainly states that the scope of the law must be narrowed. Claiming to be a super spook assigned to the 99th Mess Kit Repair Team working behind enemy lines ain’t illegal but it is laughable.

  8. You should have a whole section in one of your website columns dedicated to links with the names of all the our Stolen Valor pals. All accumulated, easy access and reference. Choose a thumbnailed face or name or something…since this site seems to get lots of traffic.

Great! I was about to devote an entire page to a “scum of the week” what a great way to start

    • Kay says:

Who died and left this website to people who do not know or care to do due diligence about the information you publish. What if you are wrong. This is unreasonable hurt to soldiers and their families. I noticed that you are mostly forwarding comments that are agreeing with your side. And, yes, you have free speech; but, in our case you are WRONG. Therefore I do not trust what you say.

      • Jonn Lilyea says:

        Give me an example please.

      • Old Trooper says:

Wow; a dead thread brought back to life by someone that is all butthurt about someone they love that was outed on this here blog thingy.

Kay; no one died and left this website to anyone. The owner of this website just asked you for an example. We don’t give 2 shits whether you trust us or not. This website and its content weren’t created for you.

Now, don’t go away mad, just go away.

I love people whose parents named their kids after a letter. Not smart enough to come up with a whole name I reckon…

Please peruse the stolen valor gallery and pick out the cases that have been exposed that chap your pooter.

Muqdadiyah19D: just take a look under the “Categories” column and click on “Phony Soldiers”. You’ll be alllllllllllll day looking at ’em all.

  11. Dave says:

SCOTUS said the exercise of free speech covers public lying… it did not say anyone calling the liars out has to back down (if anything it encouraged them.) Their speech in which they say “I was a MOH SEAL with Delta and 3,254 tours in Afghanistan” may be protected, but yours telling them they are lying sacks of slimy handwipe precum is equally protected.

Note – the Houston fella who claimed an MOH and PTSD who lectured at police departments etc. was taken in yesterday on federal misdemeanor charges – SCOTUS may allow “free speech” but when you forge a federal form like a DD214…. that ain’t protected.

  12. Hondo says:

Dave: you mean Paul Schroeder? (smile)

  13. Dave says:

yep, knew he had been written up but thought his actual arrest was relevnant. Unfortunately, reliable sources tell me he also lied to his wife for years, and she is really devastated over this. So much for “victimless”.

  14. DR_BRETT says:

    No. 7 Just A Grunt:
Repairing the ENEMY Mess Kits (“behind enemy lines”) sounds like The Constitution’s “. . . giving them Aid and Comfort.” Perhaps “Treason against the United States . . .” ?? !!
    (*sarcasm* — slightly)
