Another phony soldier to leave the Senate

| January 26, 2013

The New York Times reports that Iowa Senator Tom Harkin won’t be running for another term in the Senate;

“To walk away from this position and this power is not an easy thing,” Mr. Harkin told The Des Moines Register on Saturday. “But I think it’s the right thing. And I have two years left. I’m not passing the torch sitting down, it’s a running relay. I intend to be very active over the next two years.”

There are names that, when mentioned in polite company, remind me of why I got into the phony-busting business and Tom Harkin is one of them. It seems that for years he told tales of his daring-do in the skies over Vietnam fighting the clouds of MiGs that descended on him. B.G. Burkett’s book, Stolen Valor broke the news that he was a ferry pilot who flew damaged aircraft out of the theater to the depot for repairs. When his records emerged that proved he’d never served in Vietnam, he began referring to himself as a “Vietnam era” veteran.

He should have been voted out of office decades ago, but, hey, if Iowa wants to be represented in the Senate by a liar and a phony, I guess it’s their business. I just thought that it was my job to remind everyone on the day he announced his impending retirement of the kind of man he is.

Please don’t lump us all together. I have voted against him at every opportunity! Glad to hear he is leaving. And, for some odd reason, The Newspaper That Iowa Depends On, has never printed this information about him, to my knowledge.

Another phony like Blumenthal of Conn. Served in the Marine Reserve but claimed to have been in RVN. Even though it was on video, he claimed he was misquoted and the sheeple of Conn. elected the douche bag. This is the same scumbag who wants background checks to buy ammo.

Wait, why is he saying “walking away from this POWER”? He’s a servant of the People, he has no power they don’t give to him. Quit acting like it’s an abdication, Tom, you’re just retiring. Far too late, for my liking.

  4. FatCircles0311 says:

Too bad we can’t have these dorks fill out a resume if they want to run for office and then be able to rail their assholes inside out when it shows they lied on it.

  5. DaveO says:

Most Americans don’t mind liars and phonies who bring in Government pork. It’s the liars and phonies who are fiscal conservatives that get replaced.

Harkin, for all his failings, kept the money coming in to Iowa.

  6. Clem Dog says:

Oh and he is a Democrat, surprise, surprise!

What wasn’t that printed in the article?

voting out all incumbents in 2014, he just got out before
being voted out, don’t let the door hit you in the ass on
the way out. “Politician and diapers both need to be
changed often, and for the same reason”. Mark Twain

Tom Harkin said the same thing as Wayward Bill said, I’m a Vietnam era vet. Wayward Bill was featured here, Wayward Bill Chengelis, chairman of US Marijuana Party lying & phony – .

This blog post was posted on The Vietnam Veteran.

Thanks for keeping up the good work.

Hmmmm. I was in Germany as a dependent (my father was a red leg Warrant stationed in Augsburg, FRG) during the Vietnam war. Naturally it follows that I to am a Vietnam Veteran … by association.

(Actually, I think he was an E-5/E-6 … if I remember correctly he didn’t get promoted to WO-1 until around 77/78, but it’s been a long while, and my memory is a bit fuzzy.)

  10. AW1 Tim says:

Iowa (where I was born) has a lot of men to be proud of.

Harkin is not one of them.

  11. NHSparky says:

If the guy had just said what he was, it would have been fine by me, but noooooooooo…

  12. USMCE8Ret says:

    John Kerry – Democrat/liar/shitbag.

    Tom Harkin – Democrat/liar/shitbag.

    Richard Blumenthal – Democrat/liar/shitbag.

And the similarities keep going and going. I don’t have time to make the whole list.

“To walk away from this position and this power is not an easy thing,”

Dead giveaway of supreme douchebaggery. You are supposed to be a public servant not an powertripping piece of shit.

  14. Ex-PH2 says:

Well, at least he admits why he stayed on the job: it’s a POWER TRIP!!!!

  15. A_Proud_Infidel says:

    Good riddance.

  16. Stacy0311 says:

didn’t read the NY Times article but dollars to donuts somewhere in the article it probably referred to “Harkin’s Senate seat”. Just like the press referred to it as “Kennedy’s seat”. It’s a pet peeve of mine. No asshats, it’s NOT his seat, it’s the senate seat of the people of the state that they represent.

  17. Ex-PH2 says:

@Stacy, in Illinois, Jesse Jackon, Jr., has resigned ‘his’ seat in the US Senate and people are now lining up to get ‘Jackson’s seat’. They’ll always do it incorrecly, no matter what.

  18. Ex-PH2 says:

    That should be ‘incorrectly’. Sorry.
