Chris Kyle; RIP

| February 3, 2013

Since I knew about it before most people, you’d think I’d have dealt with it by now. But I haven’t. I’ve been staring at an empty screen for more than two hours wondering what I could write. I never met Chris Kyle, but after reading his book, you get a sense that you have met him.

But, last night, I got a call from someone who wanted us to help the police find Kyle’s killer. I was stunned when he gave me the news. I have no idea who it was that called, but he had access to police message traffic, so, you know, I can guess. So I called the sheriff’s department and they confirmed for me that the incident had indeed happened, but they wouldn’t confirm that Kyle was involved.

But, anyway, I guess they caught Eddie Routh, Kyle’s killer. According to some of our Marines with access to the Marines On Line database, Routh is a corporal and a unit armorer and currently in the Individual Ready Reserve – that status you do before you get out of the service.

According to Fox News, Routh was apprehended near Lancaster, TX at about 9:30 local time last night after shooting Kyle and his neighbor in the back and fleeing the scene in a pickup belonging to one of his victims, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Now, if you don’t want to get pissed off, you should stop reading here. I cruised over the Huffington Post and read some of the comments those tiny-brained morons were leaving and, of course, it’s all about gun control and veterans. And of course, they tell us that Kyle’s death was karma for killing more than 150 insurgents. Twitchy logged some of the “tweets” from the Leftist ghouls yesterday celebrating the death and standing on his body for their political agenda.

Here’s an example;

    Hondo … thank God someone is supervising us!

    I did not want to go Queen on him … but he made me do it!

  2. Isnala says:

    Harry two words for you: “Lend Lease”, with out which you would be speaking Deutsch.
    -here endith the history lesson.

    RIP Chief, you fly with angels now.

    The soldier stood and faced his God,
    Which must always come to pass;
    He hoped his shoes were shining bright,
    Just as brightly as his brass.

    “Step forward now, soldier,
    How shall I deal with you?
    Have you turned the other cheek?
    To my church have you been true?”

    The soldier squared his shoulders and said,
    “No, Lord, I guess I ain’t;
    Because those of us who carry guns,
    Can’t always be a saint.

    I’ve had to work most Sundays,
    And at times my talk was rough;
    I’ve had to break your rules my Lord,
    Because the world is awfully tough.

    But, I never took a thing
    That wasn’t mine to keep;
    Though I worked a lot of overtime,
    When the bills got just too steep.

    And I never passed a cry for help,
    Though at times I shook with fear;
    And sometimes … God forgive me,
    I’ve wept unmanly tears.

    I know I don’t deserve a place
    Among the people here;
    They never wanted me around,
    Except to calm their fears.

    If you’ve a place for me here, Lord,
    It needn’t be so grand;
    I never expected or had too much,
    But if you don’t, I’ll understand.”

    There was a silence all around the throne,
    Where the saints often trod;
    As the soldier waited quietly,
    For the judgment of his God.

    “Step forward now, soldier,
    You’ve borne your burdens well;
    Come walk peacefully on Heaven’s streets,
    You’ve done your time in HELL!”

    @ Isnala, AMEN!

  4. FloridaFlyer says:

    Let’s stop the ugly fighting and debating and turn this thread into something honorable for Chris Kyle. He was a Christian and I’m sure he would prefer only positive comments versus the ugliness portrayed on here.

    Chris Kyle defended our country for all of us — no matter what side of the political fence you sit. Let’s try to be as honorable as he was.

    God bless, Chris Kyle and those who are still fighting for freedom.

    Thank you.

  5. Lucky says:

    I’m working as a tobacconist now, Chris was a cigar guy, so tonight, myself and a cigar rep for one o the brands will be lighting up in Chris’ honor at the shop.

  6. Ex-PH2 says:

    I posted this @177, but it was overrun by bile, so I’m reposting it, now that things seem to have calmed down.

    Now cracks a noble heart.
    Good night, sweet prince
    And flights of angels
    Sing thee to thy rest.

  7. Lucky says:

    Shit, that last one cracked my tough guy demeanor. I’m a sucker for Shakespeare

  8. Lucky says:

    “There is special providence in the death of a sparrow…”

  9. MCPO NYC USN (Ret.) says:

    Good Idea # 358 … so here it is again:

    The Navy Hymn

    Eternal Father, Strong to save,
    Whose arm hath bound the restless wave,
    Who bid’st the mighty Ocean deep
    Its own appointed limits keep;
    O hear us when we cry to thee,
    for those in peril on the sea.

    O Christ! Whose voice the waters heard
    And hushed their raging at Thy word,
    Who walked’st on the foaming deep,
    and calm amidst its rage didst sleep;
    Oh hear us when we cry to Thee
    For those in peril on the sea!

    Most Holy spirit! Who didst brood
    Upon the chaos dark and rude,
    And bid its angry tumult cease,
    And give, for wild confusion, peace;
    Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee
    For those in peril on the sea!

    O Trinity of love and power!
    Our brethren shield in danger’s hour;
    From rock and tempest, fire and foe,
    Protect them wheresoe’er they go;
    Thus evermore shall rise to Thee,
    Glad hymns of praise from land and sea.

    RIP … SOC(SEAL) Chris Kyle, USN (Ret.)

  10. Ex-PH2 says:

    362, 363 — Now this is much better.

  11. Lucky says:

    MCPO, goddamn it is everybody trying to make me tear up at work???? That’s one of my favorite hymns

  12. Lucky says:

    The Army equivalent to Eternal Father:

    The Mansions of the Lord

    To fallen soldiers let us sing,
    Where no rockets fly nor bullets wing,
    Our broken brothers let us bring
    To the Mansions of the Lord

    No more weeping,
    No more fight,
    No friends bleeding through the night,
    Just Devine embrace,
    Eternal light,
    In the Mansions of the Lord

    Where no mothers cry
    And no children weep,
    We shall stand and guard
    Though the angels sleep,
    Oh, through the ages let us keep
    The Mansions of the Lord

  13. Ex-PH2 says:

    Yes, we are.

  14. MCPO NYC USN (Ret.) says:

    Lucky – Silently weep everyday, as I do, for it is a chilling and stark reminder of what great sacrifices are made each and every day by our warfighters.

  15. Lucky says:

    Thanks EX PH2! Well if anyone’s in Arlington around 5:30 or 6, stop by Ballston and light up a cigar in honor of SOC Kyle, Shaitan al Ramadi.

  16. Hondo says:

    Guess I’ll repeat myself here also:

    Under the wide and starry sky
    Dig the grave and let me lie:
    Glad did I live and gladly die,
    And I laid me down with a will.

    This be the verse you ‘grave for me:
    “Here he lies where he long’d to be;
    Home is the sailor, home from the sea,
    And the hunter home from the hill.”

    Rest in peace, Chief Kyle – brother in arms. Rest in peace.

  17. Lucky says:

    MCPO, I will forever carry a reminder of that on my body. I have a Soldier’s Cross and John 15:13, tattooed pretty fraking big on either side of my ribs. I was a Delayed Entry Soldier in the Reserve in 2002, still on high school, I packed up my unit as they left for Kuwait. I lost a steady stream of friends starting July 1st of 2003 with the Company 1SG, a great man and mentor, and it hasn’t gotten easier in the last decade. I’ve grown up with this war, I feel like an old man at 28. Shit happens, but this? My personal opinion is that the 25 year old piece of fecal matter is faking PTSD and stole the truck because he wanted it. Chris and his buddy just got in the way. I want that assholes scalp

  18. Twist says:

    I never thought that this is where I’d settle down

    I thought I’d die an old man back in my hometown

    They gave me this plot of land me and some other men for a job well done

    There’s a big white house sits on a hill just up the road

    The man inside he cried the day they brought me home

    They folded up a flag and told my mom and dad we’re proud of your son

    And I’m proud to be on this peaceful piece of property

    I’m on sacred ground and I’m in the best of company

    I’m thankful for those thankful for the things I’ve done

    I can rest in peace I’m one of the chosen ones I made it to Arlington

    I remember daddy brought me here when I was eight

    We searched all day to find out where my granddad lay

    And when we finally found that cross

    He said “son this is what it cost to keep us free” Now here I am

    A thousand stones away from him

    He recognized me on the first day I came in

    And it gave me a chill when he clicked his heels and saluted me.

    And everytime I hear twenty-one guns

    I know they brought another hero home to us

    We’re thankful for those thankful for the things we’ve done

    We can rest in peace ’cause we are the chosen ones

    We made it to arlington yea dust to dust

    Don’t cry for us we made it to arlington

    I know it is a country song by Trace Adkins and not Shakespeare, but I thought it is appropriate.

  19. Isnala says:

    Understandable Gumbo and not to make light of, or in any way say that those other people’s loss/sacrafice isn’t as great, however there are 2 primary drivers of this story: 1. Many people who author and/or read this blog knew Chief Kyle and not just from TV and his book, but have served and/or met/spoken with him (also the biggest factors in my mind,) and 2. Chief’s work after his retirement to help fellow Vets is a shining example and one to emulate of us taking care of our own, especailly with the bang-up job the Government has done trying to do so.

  20. Jack Shack says:

    Forget “gun culture” for a second. This guy made it his life mission to brag and gloat as much as he can about the huge number of people he killed, and how they’re all “savages” and “subhumans” and linking them to things like abusing women, etc. that I seriously doubt he witnessed through his sniper scope (which gave him his only glimpse of his victims).

    Therefore, I don’t know on what planet you jackoffs can say we’re way out of line in giving him exactly the same treatment in death that he gave the people he killed. What I’m doing is infinitely less grave since I’m not the one who killed Chris, just someone who takes great pleasure in seeing nature’s justice on a mass-murdering neocon Arab-hater.

  21. Ex-PH2 says:

    Oh, here we go.

    So, Jack Wagon, you never saw any of those news videos coming out of Afghanistan not so very long ago, of women being executed in a soccer staium or beaten in public? You didn’t see ABC’s investigation into the madras where boys from age 5 are taught to hate Americans and want to kill them, and said so on camera?

    There’s a hell of a lot of other stuff that you missed, but since you lead a sheltered life, you need to be reminded that Khaled Sheikh Mohammed, the so-called blind sheik, was responsible for the first attack on the World Trade Center in 1993, using a truck bomb parked in the parking garage. It killed 6 people, injured several thousand, and created a crater 100 feet in diameter, several stories deep and several stories high. The attack was planned by a group of conspirators including Ramzi Yousef, Mahmud Abouhalima, Mohammad Salameh, Nidal A. Ayyad, Abdul Rahman Yasin and Ahmad Ajaj. They received financing from Khaled Sheikh Mohammed, Yousef’s uncle.

    If that doesn’t fit into your meme, then let me bring up the four hijackings financed by Osama bin Laden, in which the hijackers flew planes loaded with American citizens and their children into the two tower of the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and a hayfield in Shanksville, PA.

    You want to go over that mass-murdering neoncon Arab-hater bit againg? Should I bring up the destruction by Saddam Hussein of villages and homes belonging to the marsh Arabs in southern Iraq, the Iraqi people he murdered and ordered to be murdered, and the Kurds he used as guinea pigs when he was experimenting with nerve gas. That was all on television, on the news. I can include the Kuwaitis he executed and tortured when he invaded Kuwait to grab its oilfields and access to shippping, and the way his troops dynamited the oilfields and did massive damage to the environment of the Persian Gulf and the desert.

    Shall I bring up more? I have a wealth of information as backup.

    You, on the other hand, have nothing.

  22. Lucky says:

    One, fuck nugget, Chris never gloated or bragged, he was a true silent professional, he went out of his way NOT TO. Two, those “innocent Iraqis?” Guess what, most of then weren’t Iraqi, but foreign fighters who went to Iraq for the sole purpose of killing westerners and Iraqis, and Milano were white skinned Chechens or Tunisians, Jordanians, etc. they were ENEMY COMBATANTS, kills, not “victims”. If you truly believe that they are “victims” you are one sad, sick, little dicked mother fucker. You are the epitome of fucking stupid, you make Ron Paul look like Einstein. And that’s saying something. I cannot believe you don’t have the god damned common courtesy to show some respect for the dead, especially since he was a better man than you, Gunga Din! I swear on all that is Holy, someone should pimp slap your Mother with their ring hand for the sheer insult to the rest of the world that is her allowing you to make it into adulthood.

  23. Lucky says:

    Sorry guys, that filthy little C_m Dumpster set me off, I’m sick and tired of people denigrating Chris’ memory, Snipers, and allowing idiots like Routh and Poe to get away with fake claims of PTS, it’s chickenshit, and there really should be a punishment involved

  24. Ex-PH2 says:

    @377 – And you think you’re alone in that?

  25. Lucky says:

    Definitely not, was apologizing for my outburst, I’m now smoking a Perdomo Lot 23 Maduro in an effort to calm the fuck down and relax, and in honor of Chris Kyle, he would light a Stogie up after each mission.

  26. Ex-PH2 says:

    Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water, eh? Naw, the hagfish are always waiting.

  27. MCPO in PJ's with Popcorn says:

    Hey jack fuck … Last Friday I spent the day with his former CDR. Would you be willing to repeat this bullshit to his face and the company he keeps?

  28. Lucky says:

    I was fighting the urge to cross collar, triangle or rear naked choke the asshole

  29. Jack Shack says:

    Ex-PH2, that’s what you people (neocons) do. You never make a direct justification for your conflicts. All you do is tell us your version of how weeeealy weeealy baaaaad “those people” are. You guys are known to bring up Saudi practices and pin them on Saddam Hussein, the first Arab leader to abolish shariah courts and replace them with a full common law system (it’s back to shariah, now, in great new Iran flavor). You bring up random shit left and right that doesn’t have a passing resemblance to a true casus belli, but is only there to make people think “ewww those people are just all around icky, let’s just kill them all.” This is the attitude Chris had and while there’s probably no superhero residing in outer space if there was one he would roast this bloodthirsty redneck knuckeldragger piece of dogshit in a spit rod in hell with limbs tied together an apple in his mouth.

    As for Saddam’s atrocities, all of the major ones were in the late 80s and early 90s, and yes there is a statute of limitations on using such things as an excuse. Or else what’s to stop us from seizing, say, France and justifying it with their atrocities in Algeria in the 1960s?

    Bin Laden has always said in his propaganda videos from the 1990s that he believes the US must be attacked because otherwise it will never stop bombing and brutalizing Muslims. In all of his videos, he counts one American act of mass-slaughter (Iraq bombings & sanctions for 10 years, arming Israeli settlers and soldiers, and putting troops in Saudi Arabia). If he hates the things you and others suggest, then why would he pick the more religious western country by a mile? If cultural and religious sensibilities are the problem, most European countries make a better target than us. But those countries mind their own business and don’t invade others for no reason.

    By the way ex-PH I’m not “sheltered.” I guarantee you I traveled far more, seen a lot more (I venture far behind the typical tourist zones), and have a far less naive worldview than you, even at my relatively young age. You think opposing wars of aggression is silly college-age idealism. What’s next, calling those opposed to baby-rape a bunch of prudes? I never advocated universal love or any of that bullshit, just that government stop behaving around the world in a matter that if done by individuals would be seen as sociopathic.

    As for you “Lucky,” if you think he didn’t brag about all his kills and really rub in how he feels zero remorse and says “they’re all savages” then that’s your problem for coming to a message board discussing a guy you clearly didn’t bother seeing the interview of. Now go kill yourself, you fucking brain-dead asshole. Now run along before I bang your mom and make you my stepson, and move your bedtime up. (directed at Lucky, not Ex-PH2)

  30. Lucky says:

    MCPO, I used to eat my dinner (regular breakfast, I was 3rd watch) with a Senior Chief from Team 4, I wonder how he’d take the news of this asshole denigrating Chris…

  31. MCPO in PJ's with Popcorn says:

    Hondo do you have a city and state for Jack the Quack?

  32. Lucky says:

    See the interview? Fucktard, I’ve READ HIS FUCKING BOOK. I’ve met his friends and employees and some of his SEAL buddies, I have more insight on him and what he said than some anonymous little dick licker like you. Hahahaha wowwwww! Did you guys hear this? Dude, for one, my old man is still around, good luck fucking my mom, he’s a Force Reconnaissance type, he’ll kill you, skull fuck you and then use you for target practice. Nice try, thanks for playing, go suck start a shotgun like you do Ron Paul’s cock

  33. MCPO in PJ's with Popcorn says:

    Thanks jonn.

  34. NHSparky says:

    I’m rapidly starting to lose patience with these fucktards.

  35. Retired Warfighter says:

    What a waste of oxygen. Something tells me that the Jack Shack is the only place that guy gets any action.

  36. Hondo says:

    RW: nah. Where Jack Shack is at right now (Riyadh) there’s always manlove Thursday.

    Only question I have is whether he plays pitcher or catcher. Or both.

  37. Ex-PH2 says:

    European cities? Obviously, Jack with his ‘worldview’ has forgotten the commuter train bombing in Madrid in March 2004, with 181 dead and 1800+ injured. And I should include the London underground suicide bombings, plus one doubledecker bus, on july 7 2005.

    Okay, sport, you hate this country so much, fine. You are free to leave, go live with your unwashed friends in one of those exotic places where dysentery and cholera abound behind the typical tourist zones. Oh, and by the way, typhoid is on the rise over there, not to mention measles, which, in an adult, are fatal, diphtheria, and polio, also known as infantile paralysis back in the 1930s and 1940s. My sister had that but recovered from it. Thank God for Dr. Jonas Salk’s polio vaccines. Encephalitis, malaria, meningitis, hepatitis — all fun to get, but the worst of them is a rare, but always very bad, disease called viral meningeal encephalitis, transmitted by mosquitoes, and widely known to destroy brain tissues and reduce the victim to the mental capacity of a 3-year-old.

    Enjoy your trip. No one will stand in your way when you leave. Be a stranger. Bye.

  38. Ex-PH2 says:

    Oh, he’s gone? Already?

    Oh, that’s why the air suddenly became breathable again. Thank you, Jonn and Hondo.

  39. Lucky says:

    Thanks guys, I about lost it with that fucker. I will endeavor to persevere in not feeding the trolls, but I kinda want to jack that fucker up right now

  40. Ex-PH2 says:

    And I so very much wanted to ask Jackwad if his father still calls his bastard.

  41. Ex-PH2 says:

    No proofreading. Grrr.

    That should be “if his father still calls him his bastard.”

  42. Hondo says:

    Lucky: just consider him the “effluent” left behind by Devil Dog in today’s “The Damn Few” episode. Seems about right to me. (smile)

  43. MCPO NYC USN (Ret.) says:

    Lucky … have not seen a good scull fuck since the PI in 86. Long story …

    About the troll … he is probably an ex-pat living in Riyahd working as a contractor in critical infrastructure, government, management services, or spouse of the same. Riyahd is like any large western city therefore many of these US hating POS live there because they don’t have a country or an idiology that would fit a civilized society. The good news is, if he is a USPERS, he certainly has the attention of the CIA now. JACK ASS!

  44. Lucky says:

    I still can’t believe that mother f_cker got that personal.

  45. Redacted1775 says:

    So in other words, you know shit about absolutely nothing. No surprise there. Turd.

  46. A_Proud_Infidel says:

    Jack-boy, when your time comes, they just need to throw what’s left of you into a septic tank, because that’s where shit belongs! Have fun next man-love Thursday, the best part of you ran down your momma’s leg, you should have been a blow job !

    The freedom for you to post your blithering idiocy was paid for with the blood, sweat, tears, and lives of us Vets, scumbag, emigrate to North Korea!

  47. Redacted1775 says:

    “People of your profession need to pump themselves up with so much macho jock bullshit”– Never really found this to be the case. I think dumbasses like you who get in over their heads need to say this as a way of justifying your resentment (resentment based on years upon years of bullshit getting crammed into your head, by the way) of “our profession”. If anything it’s very telling of your needless inferiority complex. Your verbal diarrhea continues to prove how little you actually know. And I suppose Hitler and Stalin just stopped on their own accord, got bored with the whole world conquest thing right? Moron.

  48. 2/17 Air Cav says:

    Okay Jack Shack. I’ve read your comments. What’s your point? Is it that people die in war? Is it that those who make war don’t do the fighting? Is it that individual soldiers are to decide what wars are just and, consequently, when they will fight and when they will not? What is your point exactly? Do you know?

  49. Twist says:

    “such as using napalm” No napalm was used in Iraq.

  50. Ex-PH2 says:

    ” any look into the culture of those respective miliaries shows that the US military encourages hooliganism to a greater extent than those other Western countries.”

    Should I bring up the ‘hooliganism’ (polite word for it) engaged in by Saddam Hussein’s army during the invasion of Kuwait, and the dynamiting of Kuwaiti oilfields on their retreat? Or the raping of Afghan women by the Taliban when the Taliban was originally being pushed out of Afghanistan by the US at the request of the Afghan government?

    You do say ‘their culture is barfight violence’, so how does that make the Canucks and the Brits less hooligan than we are?

    And, for the record, I did not grow up around guns, nor do I know anyone who ‘grew up’ around guns, so making a blanket statement like ‘we have grown up around guns’ is incorrect.
