Gaylord Marty Surratt; phony Beirut Marine

| June 1, 2015

Marty Surrat

The folks at Military Phonies send yet another phony by the name of Garlord Marty Surratt who told a Veterans’ Day gathering of American Legion members, in 2012, about his experiences that surround the time that he was wounded at the Beirut bombing in October, 1983;

Surrat claims

Well, that turns out to not exactly be true. The National Personnel Records Center says “Who?”

Gaylord Surratt FOIA

But, Mr. Surratt seems to be a self-solving problem. This last Christmas Day, he shot his mother, with whom he was living, and then walked into another room and shot himself. His mother survived her injuries, thankfully, but being a Marine Corps sniper dude paid off for Marty and he has passed on to his Great Reward.

Yeah, I know, he was probably a little bit unbalanced, but they’re all unbalanced, aren’t they? Some more unbalanced than others. It looks like he owned his own trucking company, so how bad could he have been…well, up to the point where he shot his Mom and himself?

Sniper AND Beirut, of course. Alas, no NDSM. Pffffft.

  2. A Proud Infidel®™ says:

According to one article his first name was Gaylord. He shot his own mother before he killed himself, that gives him a special place in hell. AS TO him owning a trucking company, well… I remember when I was a rookie OTR Driver *COUGH* years ago, and in one company orientation they told us that on average in the U.S., another trucking outfit goes belly-up bankrupt about every two hours.

  3. Combat Historian says:

I’m sure he penned a suicide note blaming all this on “the PTSD” he caught in Beirut…///

    • Green Thumb says:

Sad story all the way around.

I wonder what pushed him over the edge?

      • Pinto Nag says:

The same moral rot that made him claim fake honors is the same moral rot that made him shoot his mother and then himself.

There is no such thing as a victimless crime, particularly where Stolen Valor is concerned.

  4. nbcguy54ACTUAL says:

I’m sure Bernasty will blame the TAH Nation for this suicide too…

  5. Dave Hardin says:

But Jonn he is already dead. Why can’t you just let the man rest in peace?

  6. Ex-PH2 says:

I had a friend who raised show ponies in the 1960s. She had one breeding stud pony with the name ‘Gaylord’ in his registry papers, and some of his offspring carried that name.
The transition to the story about this guy’s problem is that Gaylord is a fine name for a show pony, but in this guy’s case, he was a horse’s ass.
It might explain his behavior, but on the other hand, sometimes nothing explains this kind of behavior other than a life badly lived.

  7. ChipNASA says:

Well, one good thing about this story….he won’t show up here bitching and moaning and threatening us.
    😀 😀

/so we got THAT going for us, which is nice.

  8. nbcguy54ACTUAL says:

    Two things:
-You’d think the AL would do a better job of vetting it’s speakers
    -I hope this dude isn’t occupying a space at a Veteran’s cemetery

  9. Flagwaver says:

Waiting for a certain phony CPO and disbarred lawyer to say we drove him to self-murder in 3…2…1…

    • A Proud Infidel®™ says:

I’m surprised he hasn’t done that already and added Gaylord to his list of “Veterans driven to self-murder by TAH” as Daniel A. Bernath puts it.

  10. Sparks says:

While I was raised to not speak ill of the dead, he’s still a Shitbag! I am glad his mother survived though.

  11. Daisy Cutter says:

How could he stand there in good conscience and give a speech to the American Legion talking about something he wasn’t even a part of, then collect all the accolades of being a hero?

I realize that he’s dead, but I would think:

    1) the American Legion would want to know they were duped even though it will prove sad and embarrasing and
    2) that people in Surratt’s community don’t attribute this to combat-related PTSD and treat him as some kind of Chris Kyle (if there is any chance of that).

His memory should not be associated with the US Marines, most especially since he wasn’t.

  12. ChipNASA says:

Now now, this is NOT the TAH that I know and love.
This gentile person has go to the great repast. He’s dead. He is no more.
I think it’s unseemly of us to talk Ill of him regardless of his past transgressions.
Now, let’s all open up your TAH hymnals and sing a song of recognition for this individuals service to our great country…..

    Hymn….Hymn….Hymn, him fuck him….Ooooh Hymn….Hymn….Hymn, him fuck him….Yeaaaaa

  13. B Woodman says:

    From Monty Python’s “Dead Parrot” sketch. . . .

“‘E’s not pinin’! ‘E’s passed on! This parrot is no more! He has ceased to be! ‘E’s expired and gone to meet ‘is maker! ‘E’s a stiff! Bereft of life, ‘e rests in peace! If you hadn’t nailed ‘im to the perch ‘e’d be pushing up the daisies! ‘Is metabolic processes are now ‘istory! ‘E’s off the twig! ‘E’s kicked the bucket, ‘e’s shuffled off ‘is mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin’ choir invisible!! THIS IS AN EX-PARROT!!”

Sorry to make fun of the deceased, but I’m just bent that way with certain shitholes, and between Mr Gaylord, and the TAH company I keep, I just couldn’t help me . . .I mean, myself.

  14. MSGRetired says:

I wonder if he will get Full Military Honors at his Burial ? That would consist of 7 Marines Pissing in the Hole ..
