Air Force Academy ignores Mikey and the MRFF

| December 29, 2015

Air Force Academy

A few weeks ago the mis-named Military Religious Freedom Foundation and their founder, Air Force Academy grad, Mikey Weinstein has been complaining about cadets on the football team who took advantage of the freedom to practice their religion and prayed before a game. From the Chatanoogan;

“It’s a disgrace. It’s a putrid example of fundamentalist Christian supremacy, triumphalism and exceptionalism and it has to stop,” Mr. Weinstein said.

“Those individuals that are dressed in the Air Force uniform, that’s their uniform of the day. They’re members of the military and they are under different rules than the civilian counterparts they’re playing on the field,” he charged, causing the Air Force to immediately call for a Board of Inquiry.

Because the MFers aren’t about religious freedom at all. Well, just before Christmas, the Air Force Academy responded;

“Recently the United States Air Force Academy received a complaint about its football players kneeling in prayer. An inquiry was initiated, which found the football players’ actions to be consistent with Air Force Instruction 1-1 and its guidance on the free exercise of religion and religious accommodation.”

“The United States Air Force Academy will continue to reaffirm to cadets that all Airmen are free to practice the religion of their choice or subscribe to no religious belief at all,” academy officials said in the statement. “The players may confidently practice their own beliefs without pressure to participate in the practices of others.”

Mikey and his penchant for hyperbole compares the Air Force Academy to Pol Pot;

The Air Force Academy’s internal review of this matter is a pathetic sham and transparent farce of the highest order.

Let us not forget that it was hardly a respected, deconflicted and disinterested third party entity or outside agency that inquired into MRFF’s charges against the Academy of unlawful, orchestrated, Christian-sectarian team praying by its football players.

Indeed, having the Air Force Academy’s very own Athletic Dept. essentially “investigate itself” in this sordid unconstitutional matter of fundamentalist Christian triumphalism and supremacy is about as “impartial and effective” as having Pol Pot “investigate” himself for his killing field crimes against humanity or having Bernie Madoff direct the “investigation” of his investment business for allegations of pyramid or Ponzi scheme illegalities.

Maybe if the team busted out their prayer rugs and faced Mecca it would make Mikey feel a little better about the whole thing. Mikey and MFers, on the other hand, need a crying towel and they really need to consider changing the name of their organization to something like the Freedom From Religion Foundation. Or ISIS.

Typical hyperbole after receiving a perfectly reasonable reply which deviated from the one they sought.

    • UpNorth says:

“(P)athetic sham and transparent farce of the highest order”. That only means that Mikey didn’t get his way, so now he’s going to stomp his foot, hold his breath, then cry to mommy that he didn’t get his way.

  2. Pinto Nag says:

Probably needs to have his rabies and distemper shots updated. Foaming at the mouth is never a good sign, Mikey.

    • desert says:

Lil Mikey will one day face the Judge of all creation and answer for his ignorance…just before he is tossed into the lake of fire….!

      • valerie says:

If he were a genuine nonbeliever, that lake of fire would have no effect. He’d walk right across it, because it would not affect him.

He isn’t a nonbeliever. A nonbeliever can observe religious activity, and allow that some of his neighbors may be good folk, but are a little tetched in the haid. He’s more like a disbeliever, someone who needs to pick a fight, to win an argument, because other people’s belief matters to him. The significant difference is that other people’s beliefs matter to him. Other people’s expression of a faith, where he can perceive it, upsets him. That can only be because, at some level, belief matters to him. That lake of fire is ready and waiting, if for nothing more than his dishonesty.

  3. Hondo says:

Shouldn’t Mikey’s last name be spelled “Whinestein”?

It’s putrid and disgusting that this pathetic sonofabitch is actually a classmate!

  6. Nicki says:

    Dear Mikey –

From one atheist to another, SHUT THE FUCK UP, BITCH.

    Love and kisses,
Someone who doesn’t shit her panties at the mere mention of a god.

    • Bill says:

Ah, but Mikey found a way to make a living by being a whiney little attention whore.

    • MrFace says:

Exactly, Its Atheist like this that make my head spin. Let them pray if they want just like I don’t have to pray if I don’t want. Stop making the rest of the non-believers look like shit.

[/I think I might have accidentally hit the report your comment button, that was in error. My apologies]

    • SFC D says:

Perfectly stated. Concise, right to the point, polite, and easily understood. No big words for poor little Mikey to get tangled in.

Mike Weinstein, I’ve heard that your parents hated you to the point that your bathtub toys were a toaster and a hair dryer! DONT get to feeling insulted, but I have to ask if you consider it your life’s mission to spread harebrained idiocy and intolerance? And DON’T thank me for insulting you, IT WAS MY PLEASURE you smegma-headed Santorum-stained dingleberry on an inbred buck-toothed Swamp Donkey’s ass! 😀

  8. Twist says:

Maybe he should rename his group more appropriately to the FFCF; Freedom From Christianity Foundation.

    • A Proud Infidel®™ says:

How ’bout “Crusaders of Christianity Kicking? C.O.C.K for short and he could call any followers “COCKheads” or “COCKs”! Come to think of it, Mike Weinstein could label himself the organization’s head recruiter pulling people in making him a “COCKsucker”! 😀

  9. Twist says:

Has he complained that Christian Chaplains wear the cross on their uniforms yet?

  10. medic09 says:

Good on the Air Force. A common sense response.

As for Mr. Weinstein, reading his comments I can almost see the flecks of spittle fly as he has apoplexy and gets dragged away in a straight-jacket. Wow. And Pol Pot? Really? Even Madoff, who did indeed really ruin the lives of many? This guy is as unbalanced as they come.

    • Casey says:

Is it too late for a blanket party?

      • A Proud Infidel®™ says:

Here’s a hammer and directions to the beach.

  12. rb325th says:

Mikey wasn’t ignored, he was just told to sit down and STFU.
I have no issue with atheist. I have a huge problem with the likes of Mikey who believe that their beliefs trump the beliefs of others, and the twisted version of the 1st Amendment that they go by.
You do not have Freedom from others practicing their beliefs. The one practicing their faith has protection from the likes of Mikey.

  13. The Other Whitey says:

Let me just preempt Lars on his pet issue here and say everybody gives even fewer fucks about his opinion than they do about Mikey Whiner’s.

Now that that’s out of the way, if they players weren’t compelled or pressured to join in, which there’s no indication that they were, then his complaint is itself a Constitutional violation. No surprise there, as he’s living pretty comfortably on the income of his “nonprofit.”

  14. A Proud Infidel®™ says:

I honestly think I’ve come across half-rotted corpses less offensive than you, Mike Weinstein. At least you are not obnoxious like many others, you’re obnoxious in a far worse way! Here’s some advice for you Weinstein, let your hair grow out more to cover the scar, control your drooling and NOBODY will know you’re the recipient of a badly botched lobotomy! Another thing I heard about you is that you once ran away and your parents sent you a letter saying “DO NOT RETURN AND ALL IS FORGIVEN”.

  15. Coffeypot says:

He doesn’t even consider himself a bigot. If you don’t believe as he does, you are wrong and open to hostile criticism. That is the definition of bigotry.

  16. Steve says:

Just a little something to remind you guys that this horse sh!t is going on all over the place.

Some people wait with baited breath for the opportunity to be offended by ANYTHING. It makes me ducking fisgusted.

(Not to change the subject, but I looked up ‘IDC SARC.’ The only thing I could find had to do with the ‘SARC’ part, but …
      I. AM. IMPRESSED. How many lifetimes does it take to learn all of that??)

      • SARC IDC says:

The IDC part stands for “Independent Duty Corpsman”

It just means a wider scope of practice in the medical part of the job as a SARC:8403 than a SARC:8427 without the additional classes.

Youtube has some pretty kewl videos on SARCS, but the Navy pulled off the coolest one though IMO. (the operator was speaking too honestly)

      • sj says:

Damn. That’s a tough breed that I’d never heard of. Salute!

Now that its been exposed here, how long before we get a SARC poser?

  18. Dave Hardin says:

Again the Jaboni Jew has something against public prayer. Well, so did Jesus, but that is another matter all together. Its not like any of them read the damn book anyway.

So Jaboni Jew feels obligated to do something to justify his $300,000 in take home cash. Give the guy a break, watching a group of people that believe chewing on the flesh and drinking the blood of a dead Jew is a good thing might make him a bit pissy.

Christians have only been waiting 2000 years for JC to stop phucking around and come back, Jaboni Jew and his friends are still waiting for the guy to show up in first place.

Ahhh… Christmans is over…I have been praying to Jonn lately. He didn’t seem to give a shit about the Steelers last week. Maybe if I pray to Hondo things will be better this week.

        • Pinto Nag says:

I have a suspicion that the Northern Path will never be the same after I’m done with it.

Mead for breakfast, huh? I’ll have to try that, somewhere down the line. 🙂

    • GDContractor says:

Glad to know you are OK Dave. After you didn’t comment on that Mark Vicars thread yesterday, I was worried about you.

      Regarding Hondo, he has angels.

      • Dave Hardin says:

Vicars was a Navy SEAL, I wouldn’t want to piss off a squid that plays with guns. Besides, just look at him, he looks like the aborted spawn of Fred Mertz and Phylliss Diller.

      • A Proud Infidel®™ says:

I always heard rumor that Hondo has more Angels than Hugh Hefner has Playboy Mansion Bunnies!

    • Claw says:

Hang in there, Dave. Only two days and a wake-up until your self imposed “be a nice guy” order can be lifted.

      We’re all here for ya.

      SHOOOORT !!

      • A Proud Infidel®™ says:

Well DAMN, Dave’s SO SHORT right now he could high dive off a dime into a drop of water!

      • GDContractor says:

        Self imposed?

And here I was feeling sorry for him…

        • Claw says:

I think Dave did say it was self imposed, but, as frequently happens according to my Household 6, I could be wrong.

          • Claw says:

Yep, as usual. I was wrong.

Just read in Dave’s comment below that it was his Spousal Unit that placed him on Behavioral Probation until 1 January.

        • Dave Hardin says:

Actually Soviet imposed. Those Godless heathens celebrate New Year like we do Christmas.

Her and the rest of Hondo’s Honeys wouldn’t let me deploy for this years War on Chistmas.

So I stuffed their socks instead.

    • medic09 says:

Okay, Dave, before I get uppity about your repeated reference – what the hell is a Jaboni Jew and what the hell are you on about?

And for official reference, PLENTY of Jews disagree with this guy (those who’ve even heard of him); me included.

      • Dave Hardin says:

Gosh Doc, you have to wait until after the 1st for me to tell you what I really think. Spousal Unit has me on Behavioral Probation until then.

A Jaboni in the context of what I define it as is a loser, a jobless parasite, worthless man, a hard crunchy brown mark that only goes away if you Shout It Out.

Of course plenty of Jews disagree with him, its in their DNA to disagree. Never met a Jew that didn’t like to argue.

Don’t worry about me, I dont chew on dead Jew . Tried it once, kinda bland really, almost like a cracker. I do like your pickles though.

        • medic09 says:

Looks like I’m the only one here who doesn’t find it funny. Losing battle.

          • Dave Hardin says:

I don’t find it funny at all. I was not born one of Gods chosen people. I have no intention of adhering to the Noahic covenant.

I am Atheist Doc, the humor of watching people being pissy because they have an invisible friend I am supposed to respect has gone away years ago.

            Phuk Abraham and his God.

            • medic09 says:

Immaterial, Dave. Weinstein doesn’t do anything because of ‘God’. Nowhere does he say so, as far as I know. Your issue (all of ours, I think) is what he does and how he constrains others from harmlessly exercising their rights. So why keep telling us he is a Jew? It smells of bigotry to me, and I’m questioning you on it respectfully and seriously.

            • Dave Hardin says:

Fair enough Doc. My issues with Mr. Weinstein are tenacious. It is commonly thought that he is Atheist, which he is not. He is Jewish. He prays to his God several times a day. He has stated that openly several times.

Telling you that I am Atheist does not describe what I am but rather what I am not.

What I am is Anti-Theist. I have very little respect for religion of any kind. I do however have an abiding respect for the Constitutional right for people to worship as they choose.

I have found that pointing out the absurd beliefs people hold because of their religion lets them see religion from a different perspective.

Weinstein is funded my many in the Secular Community who believe he is Agnostic or Atheist. I find it ironic that people in the Secular Community that pride themselves on evidence and reason fund a man that is opposed to their principles.

It is near impossible to track down exactly how much money is taken by Weintstin from his little Not for Profit Organization but it appears it will be in excess of $300,000 this year. Nearly half of all funds received.

His justification for doing so is fallacious. He appears to bill the organization as if he is working 68 hours a week as an Attorney for the group.

I have made efforts to contact him directly through his site about the issue. He seems to have lost his voice on the matter.

I am unaware of what particular form of Judaism you profess to believe. I have found that the average American is unaware of the absurdities practiced by different forms of Judaism.

Scribbling a phrase usually from Exodus on a small piece of paper, stuffing it into a little box and strapping it to your head in a effort to exercise telepathic superpowers to communicate to an invisible being who will suspend the general laws of physics so events will sway in your favor is nonsense.

Most people have no idea what the wearing of phylacteries is or why it is done. 5 Children, infants to be precise died last year when a Rabbi who was infected with HERPES sucked the blood from the penis of those infants with his mouth infecting them. A bizarre ritual from the Bronze Age protected by law in New York.

Most Americans have never been to the West Bank, Negev, Golan Heights, or anywhere else in Israel for that matter.

The dogma of Judaism can become every bit as militant as any Islamic extremist. Standing up to the ludicrous nature of any religious dogma is a passion of mine.

I call Weinstein a Jew because that is what he is. I point it out continually because those who financially support him are unaware of that fact to a large degree.

I agree that the whole thing reeks of bigotry. Weinstein parasites off the Secular movement in this country. He professes a faith in a religion that most of us in the Secular Community believe the world would be better without.

If you think I display some signs of Anti-Semitism you are correct. I am also Anti-Islamic, Anti- Christian, and I stand against the belief in any other invisible deity that people who suffer from cognitive dissonance believe in.

The problem with so many is they see different religions as harmless. I do not. Knowing that grown, normally rational people teach children that chewing on the flesh and drinking the blood of a dead Jew is somehow a good thing sickens me.

As a Jew, Weinstein supports a dogma that is every bit as bizarre as those he fights. A Jew telling Christians they may not pray in public is a sounding crescendo to bigotry.

              • medic09 says:

I won’t try to educate you about Judaism. Not my place. Nor is this thread. (I will point out that you, yourself, displayed complete ignorance about what tefillin/phylacteries are, and how or why they are used.)

All of your antis, or just the one global anti – antitheism – have nothing to do with the Weinstein issue. Your objections to him (all of our objections to him) aren’t because of some religion that he does or does not practice or how does so Judaism doesn’t motivate nor inform what he does. (Whatever Judaism he does practice, it most certainly is not traditional from what I gather; and I live in his general AO.) Our objections to Weinstein are because he seeks to unnecessarily limit the rights of others to freely practice religion in public. And he goes out of his way to do so. Your other issues with Judaism were and are irrelevant and didn’t need to be stated in regard to him; unless your real objection is that he is Jewish – but I understand that is not the case. All your other equal-opportunity- antiism doesn’t matter here, because it isn’t the reason for the problem.

Oh, and thanks for your measured response. Appreciate it.

                • Dave Hardin says:

My honor Doc. I am always open to being educated about a different perspective on matters.

I think I can support my position that his religious beliefs are relevant to the matter.

I believe they have a purpose for being stated, not the least of which is bringing some of them to light so others may look into the matter for themselves.

                  I appreciate your candor.

                  • medic09 says:

Okay, so now I need some edumacating. How do you figure his religious practices figure into his equation. My understanding is that his Jewish involvement is very liberal/reformed. I’m quite sure he doesn’t give a hoot about other people’s religion. So it seems to me that is objection to religion in public are based not on religious principals; but on social and political ideology. How do you see his religious beliefs in the equation?

                  • Dave Hardin says:

Sorry, I should have checked back earlier.

His religious practices come in to play for several reasons.

He is funded by many from the Secular Community that are under the impression his is Agnostic or Atheist. Pointing out that he is not by highlighting his religious beliefs brings it to their attention. I have already spoken to several who have contributed to his cause who now will not continue to. There will be some who will continue to.

It is all too common for those in the Secular community to be chastised for attacking religious expression. Again, pointing out that he is a Jew demonstrates that this is not an attack by Atheists.

He very well may not care about other peoples religion…to some degree. He most certainly does care about these particular people publicly expressing their religious conviction in public.

People have a right to free speech, to include expressing their religious practices. Their individual right to pray in public is no less protected than his right to profess being a Jew. It is their way of professing Christianity.

I have, and will continue to protect the right for people to worship as they choose and to express that choice in public. I will also use my rights to free speech to point out how bizarre their beliefs actually are.

These are not children in this case. They are legal adults, I do not agree with their beliefs but defend their right to have them.

College football is played on Saturday. Does his objection to their prayer at a game have anything to do with them playing on his day of Sabbath? Does his practice of Shabbat have anything to do with his choice to object?

That might seem odd to many people that it could, but they have never been to Kiryas Joel or a Haredi community in Israel on Saturday.

Of course a video of him riding in an elevator alone on Saturday would clear up the matter.

People often say they dont care about other peoples religion, when in fact their actions prove they do.

Being free to express himself as a Jew while objecting to Christian adults expressing their choice is bigotry in its finest form.

There was no mandate to pray, no organized guidelines on how they must pray, or to whom.

I often stood silent, head bowed, during prayer, I spent the time thinking how lucky I am to not live by silly superstitious rituals from the Bronze Age.

  26. Veritas Omnia Vincit says:

Just because I’m not a believer doesn’t mean I lack knowledge of the literature, I am reminded of a passage regarding prayer in public.

It’s from Matthew as I recall and if I am quoting my KJV of the bible (yes I the non-believer have several bibles and concordances as well)

And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

I always understood this message to mean if you are indeed a godly man your god knows that without you having to display it when it serves no purpose other than a public display. There are other passages which indicate there are moments for public proclamations, but one wonders how many christians actually read their book of instructions and contemplate the meaning of such passages as this one.

I think it’s really fucking stupid to think your god gives a rat’s ass how you perform on a football field while people who are praying to be granted a few more days of life while fighting cancer are routinely ignored.

But hey, whatever floats your philosophical beliefs in magic boat I guess.

At the end of the day I don’t care if they pray or don’t pray because it seems a colossal waste of time just prior to a game when a more appropriate activity would be to continue keeping the musculature properly warmed while playing a sport responsible for 50% of the 3.8 million concussions and 96% of the catastrophic (fatal or crippling) injuries suffered in high school and college sports. Clearly their god doesn’t much care about football players based on the numbers of them praying versus the number getting injured.

Pray away boys, pray away. The constitution allows you to enjoy whatever delusions help you through the day. I’m not going to sue over this and I’m more baffled than offended.

How do you know they are praying for a win at a football game?

They could be praying and thanking God for the opportunity to be there. Or thanking him for letting them be able to go to the academy.

Not all praying is asking god for something. Mine is always about thanking him for what I do have.

      • Veritas Omnia Vincit says:

Then follow Matthew 6:5 and keep it private and do not act as the hypocrites do to be seen of men….if it is indeed thanks to your god for your gifts he requires no public display according to your god’s own gospels….

after all Matthew 6:6 and 6:7 follow up on that principle:

But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

But like I said, I’m not going to sue over this horseshit it’s just another public display of piety it carries zero value plus or minus for me. I just find it entertaining that christians feel a need to defend a practice one of their own gospels instructs to avoid.
