“No cops” sign causes hoopla

| August 10, 2017 | 137 Comments

A number of people have sent us links about the sign on the front of the EAV Barbell Club in Atlanta.

The owner says that he’s had a long time standing policy against cops and active duty military members in his club. From 11Alive;

“We’ve had an explicitly stated ‘No Cop’ policy since we opened, and we also don’t open membership to active members of the military,” he said.

For Chambers, a lifelong political activist, the sign and policy is a political statement outside a multi-use space which serves as a gym, community gathering spot and meeting place for activists in the metro area.

He says groups who work out there are generally minorities who are uncomfortable with the presence of law enforcement agents.

In the video interview at the link, he went on to claim that the police serve capitalism and white supremacy and for that reason he doesn’t want them in his club.

The Atlanta Police Department would not comment on the policy, but told 11Alive News, “Were we to respond to an emergency there, this sign would not stop us from lawfully doing our job.”

“If they have a warrant, they can go anywhere they want, but we’re not breaking the law,” Chambers said.

That’s fine, it’s private property and he can do whatever he wants, but he also has to suffer the consequences of his politics. I wonder what stupid excuse he has for keeping active duty members of the military out of his little shit hole club.

Probably has quite an extensive rap sheet.

  2. Wilted Willy says:

What a first class pussy! I hope the cops take their sweet time responding to a robbery call to his little shit hole! Fuck Off you little dick stain!

  3. USMCMSgt (Ret) says:

By brother lives in Atlanta and told me about this. He said that gym isn’t in the best location probably won’t last long anyway. He also said that veterans and military aren’t invited to use the gym because, according to the owner, military people are “murderers” who serve to advance capitalism (whatever that fucking means).

    • Graybeard says:

I’m surprised (although I ought not to be) by the widespread ignorance of the nature and role of our military.

I had to bite my tongue the other day when my youngest son’s f-i-l claimed that the military exists to help oil companies.

Some feuds are just not worth starting.

      • USMCMSgt (Ret) says:

Just like the whole DHS exercise where SPECOPS were being used, and people thought it was a “dry run” to confiscate everyone’s firearms.

There are some fucking idiots out there.

        • Graybeard says:

That’s the problem – they reproduce.

        • USMC Steve says:

That would not be a problem were it not for the regime in power at the time such things happen. Frankly, given the Clinton crime family and the Obama regime, I would find something like that entirely credible. The socialist democrat party goes out of its way to do such things in the interest of gaining and keeping power. And when a significant part of your senior leadership is batshit nuts, such as Pelosi, Waters, Schumer, etc, that is certainly not helpful.

      • Pinto Nag says:

It’s an educational experience to go on YT and listen to people on the freeway lose their shit over military convoys going by.

      • Eden says:

SOOOOO thankful my son’s FIL is himself an Army veteran. Lotsa military on both sides. Even my daughter-in-love’s grandmother was in the Army back in the day.

      • Old 1SG, US Army (retired) says:

Even if that’s the case (military protecting oil companies) what’s his beef with it? By the way we do a strategic reserve that we do protect and anything that we might need… like keeping shipping lanes open, etc, etc,

Some of the crap that people say just amazes me… he probably drives a Prius and only uses a “teeny weeny” bit of gas and “clean” electric, and one square of toilet paper to wipe his arse!

    • IDC SARC says:

He’s against the military and capitalism…I guess he just conveniently forgets the fact that his rights to life, liberty, and and the pursuit of happiness are guaranteed through the capability of force.

      • bg2 says:

People don’t seem to understand that “freedom isn’t free,” IDC SARC. They don’t quite get that someone else with a gun who served time in our military was responsible for maintaining the conditions in which his anti-military, anti-cop business has a chance. A real grade-A ingrate.

    • Bobo says:

If he’s so opposed to capitalism, I can only assume that he’s providing his services for free, or, at a minimum, set his prices to only cover his expenses and not make a profit.

As far as the location, having been an Atlanta area resident, his gym is located solidly in what my wife and I used to call the “must carry” zone. There is little to no chance that I would park my car there long enough to work out and expect it to be there, or in the same condition, after getting done.

    • Anonymous says:

      Good ol’ left/libtard Hot-lanta…

    • Jeff LPH 3, 63-66 says:

Gee Whiz, then dick head gym owner is also a capitalist by owing a gym unless he lets his peeps use it pro bono.

    • A Proud Infidel®™ says:

IMHO those look like prison tats on his face and neck and said gym looks like it’s in an old building that was originally built to be a garage.

    • M1Hound says:

So we, as “…’murderers’ who serve to advance capitalism…” That sounds to me that his gym must free otherwise he would also be a capitalist. In addition, if I were an LEO or other first responder responding to a call for service at this location I would have a hard time being very punctual in my arrival. I know our men and women in uniform take an oath, as I have also taken, and continue to provide service for pukes like this little baby punk. I can’t say everything I think about this butt plug and his sign but……we all know…..

      • Eden says:

I dunno about LEO, but for EMS, they keep logs of how long it takes us to respond to calls–how long between tones dropping and driving out of the station, how long it takes us to get there, how long on scene, how long from scene to hospital. Not sure we could get away with any significant delay. However, considering the location, we could stage based on lack of scene safety and wait for law enforcement. . .

    • Doug says:

you mean the same capitalism that lets him open and profit from his little place of business?

  4. Ex-PH2 says:

No ‘girls not allowed’ sign? I’m hurt! I’m calling ‘SEXIST MALE CHAUVINISTPIG’ on this gang-tatts gymgimp.

  5. Jon The Mechanic says:

This is a private gym and has the right to allow whoever the hell they want to allow as members.

Just because we may not agree with their decision, it doesn’t mean that we have to be whiny little bitches and throw a fit like snowflakes do when someone does something that they don’t like.

And for those of you that believe that law enforcement and EMS should take their time responding to this location if there is a call, I say this. They are more professional and mature than this idiot, and will do their duty to serve anyone who needs them. Quit hoping that they will ignore the oath that they took to serve their fellow man.

    • Jonn Lilyea says:

That’s why I took so long to post the story. I have no problem with a private businessman restricting access to their private business. Hell, even I do it here at the blog. But that bullshit about “serving white supremacy” pissed me off.

    • Hondo says:

True, Jon the Mechanic. But that doesn’t mean we have to remain silent – and can’t call the dipstick jerk a dipstick jerk.

And it also would IMO be apropos if Lady Karma bit him square in the ass because of his being a jerk. Hypothetical example, which I’m neither condoning nor advocating: it would be ironic as hell if one of his “clients” decided to beat the hell out of him in a dispute over a bill – and did it at his gym because he knew it was a “no cop zone”.

      • Graybeard says:

It would be even a greater Schadenfreude if the one(s) doing the beat-down was a BLM dude.

      • CPT11A says:

        This nails it.

The left, and I’m not including you in this JtM, loves to refer to conservatives as snowflakes when they call bullshit on things. This misses a key difference however.

When college students try to shut down and chase off a right-of-center speaker, that’s being a snowflake.

When a gay couple tries to force a baker to make them a cake and then use the government to force them out of business when they refuse, that’s being a snowflake.

When a fat, D-list celebrity tweets an airline to report transphobic talk from its employees and tries to provide enough information to locate those specific employees, that’s being a snowflake.

Pointing and laughing at an imbecile is NOT being a snowflake.

    • IDC SARC says:

Restricting clientele by occupation legal or not is bullshit. And it is perfectly acceptable to ridicule him publicly for his obvious asshattery.

Had he posted a no muslims, McDonald’s employess, meat eaters, vegans allowed sign he would probably have active protesters outside his business.

A sign is something that wants attention….well, it’s getting attention.

Also if that is a community building receiving any sort of community funds, then he probably can’t restrict access legally.

    • Fyrfighter says:

I agree, that Police, EMS, Fire, etc will do their jobs, and respond when called, that being said, this guy is a waste of skin, and while he has the right to do this (how again is it different from the gays that sued, in theory, over a “wedding” cake???) as others have pointed out, we also have the right to ridicule this dumbass… that being said, I seriously doubt anyone here would want to join , or in response, sue, or advocate that anyone else would sue over this. That would be throwing a fit like a whiny bitch snowflake as you mention

    • USMC Steve says:

I wasn’t aware that we had been stripped of our 1st amendment rights to call bullshit when we see bullshit. I stand so informed. Thanks.

  6. USAFRetired says:

If a private citizen business can be sued for refusing to bake a cake for a same sex “wedding” becuae it is against their religious beliefs. Why can’t this fellows business be sued for discrimination against military and law enforcement.

    • Graybeard says:

‘Cause it ain’t right, even if the left does it.

    • IDC SARC says:

He can be sued, just takes someone to file the suit. It will go on until a suit is filed and a judgement made in the favor of the complainant…or he caves before that happens.

Just like all the laws prior to Heller…the suit had to be filed and pursued before changes effected.

I have no legal expertise, the only law I ever formally studied was Healthcare Law, so I’m just seeing it as I kinda believe it to be by the experience of living and watching.

      • USMCMSgt (Ret) says:

Agreed, but not sure if a discrimination suit would last long in court since LEO’s and the military isn’t a protected class.

          • Skyjumper says:

Maybe we all need to go to todays Dave Hardin’s Zoya page and contribute to the ACLU. I’m sure they would take legal action and straighten out this individuals discrimination against LEO’s. /sarc (smile)

        • IDC SARC says:

There is still the matter of the community building. As far as I know the only way you can legally keep someone out of a community building is if they are in violation of existing laws such as health and safety guidelines.

          • IDC SARC says:

some states and local areas I see…have rules regarding exclusion in that anyone that is refused service must be refused for good cause, not simply because the owner doesn’t want to serve them.

Good causes cited are socially unacceptable behavior and safety.I wouldn’t summarily dismiss the possibility just because of the established protected classes without knowing the state and local ordinances.

I wouldn’t give a dime to this asshole myself.

If I had more time I would dig for the ordinances in that area. The fact that the police have stayed out of it, probably means in this case there is no such stipulation or it is loosely worded enough to easily skirt.

            • Fyrfighter says:

IDC, from the article above, I’m thinking that by “community gathering place” he means a place other peter puffer criminals can gather and talk shit.. I doubt, or at least i hope that noone would give this clown a chance to run an actual community center

        • USAFRetired says:

Since so few folks serve in the military they are and we were a minority. Precedent for establishing the military as a protected class can be traced to the Soldiers and Sailors Civil Relief Act.

        • Texas Nomad says:

Veterans are, but he seems to specify LEO & active military. Georgia legislature could pass law prohibiting discrimination against people based on their employment… but, its either nanny state regulation, or allow the course of capitalism to correct this guys extraordinary stupid business decision.

  7. Silentium Est Aureum says:

    Fucks given: zero.

He’s a piece of shit that doesn’t rate the time or effort it would take to tell him to fuck off.

As previously stated, he can do what he wants, but shitty business decisions have consequences.

  8. Dapandico says:

A police officer has challenged the owner to a charity boxing match.

  9. gitarcarver says:

He says groups who work out there are generally minorities who are uncomfortable with the presence of law enforcement agents.

As Jon the Mechanic notes above, he can do what he wants.

However, one has to wonder whether this individual realizes that instead of making relations between cops and minorities better, he is making them worse.

We have a tendency as people to divide into tribes and it is when the tribes meet and find out they have more in common than not, we all are better off for it. Doesn’t he think that the people in his gym have the same concerns and hopes in life that cops do? To go to work, make a living, go home, raise a family and give a better life to their kids than they had?

(It is also odd that he hates capitalism but has opened a gym. I wonder if he is charging memberships? I also wonder if his ban extends to ex-military people.)

While he has the right to ban or not serve cops and the military, to me the bans are counterproductive. And maybe that is his real goal.

  10. Ex-PH2 says:

I’d like to point out that Ivanka Trump was kicked out of a gym in Washington, DC because she was Ivanka Trump and the gym owner didn’t like her or her father or her family or Republicans.

A business owner does have a right to be selective about customers. The business about bakeries being sued for refusing to bake cakes for gay bashes was about getting attention, nothing else, and that is the same thing here.

I find it offensive that he does not include “NO F—-NG WOMEN” in his signage. That is just mean. I shall consider suing him for discrimination.

  11. Jackthe Jarhead says:

You know, if you look at a picture of his gym, would anyone go there? It is a musclehead gym and many of the customers are probably former inmates, as the owner probably is.

As has been stated, he can ban anyone he wants in his business. No problem, but he did this to get attention and attract business.

Well, he got the attention, showed he was a moron and his business will probably fail. It is a business so it is part of the capitalist system which he hates so much.

Ignore him and he and his business will be gone. In three months everyone will be saying “Who”?

  12. Jay says:

Nice face and neck tattoos. Gym is probably a shit hole anyway.

  13. HT3 '83-'87 says:

I’m calling this neck tattoo “tough-guy” a big pussy. No Cops or Active Duty Military would be caught dead his “Blue Oyster” themed shit hole, so this douche retro-actively claims he’s “keeping them out”. Him & his cronies can enjoy their prison-style “man cave” free from the prying eyes of the respectable citizens of Atlanta who have exactly zero fucks to give.

  14. The Other Whitey says:

Fuck him. I’d be willing to bet real money that his place of business has at least a couple of previously-overlooked code violations going on, though. Maybe they should look into that.

I believe every business should have the right to refuse service. I also believe decisions have consequences. If he’s an asshole, he should expect nothing less in return.

  15. OWB says:

Hmmm. If it is his privately owned business, who he chooses to serve and/or exclude is none of my business. Just like any other business.

Unfortunately, too often somebody somewhere decides that “open for business” means that the owner is no longer free to make many decisions about how and when to conduct the business of the business.

  16. Flagwaver says:

I thought discrimination against the military was illegal.

  17. Commissar says:

This guy seems to have deep mental health issues.

Why are the curse words blurred out?

I came across a storage place that would not rent to military (active or reserve) once.

It pissed me off so I checked the legality of it and apparently it is legal.

I guess they crossed the Soldier Sailor Civil Relief Act and auctioned a deployed service members stuff. Got hammered for it. Then decided not to cater to service members again.

  18. JarHead Pat says:

  19. Carlton G. Long says:

Eddie Money really let himself go. Epic v-neck t-shirt by the way.

  20. A Proud Infidel®™ says:

It looks like it’s just a matter of time until he goes out of business, so I say to hell with the dimwitted dickless wonder!

  21. Jeff LPH 3, 63-66 says:

Would not be suprised if one day the FD Brothers gets a call for a smoke condition inside the building and the can and irons man break out all the windows under the ghetto mentality statute instead of just lifting the windows up. Love it.

  22. Green Thumb says:

    Face tattoo = Felcher.

  23. jerry920 says:

He doesn’t allow LEO’s or AD Military members? Fine. No LEO’s, friends, relatives and supporters. Same with AD military. If you fall into those areas don’t take your business there. Got to have income to stay open :)Get the word out Atlanta.

  24. Sparks says:

My money is on he has a record and has done time. His gym probably caters too former inmates who want to work out in ALL the ways they did in the joint.

  25. CPT11A says:

Lifelong political activist? I saw his picture and thought lifelong meth user. Figured that led to the prohibition against cops. AD military was just overkill to be safe.

And since he hates capitalism, does he provide free membership at his gym?

    What a chode.

  26. Mark Lauer says:

Don’t know if I’d want to spend any time there anyway.

An online review of the gym stated that the owner had offered to sell steroids to the reviewer, claiming they were “safe” and that he “wouldn’t get in trouble”. If that were the case, why even mention it.
The reviewer also stated that, when he was in the locker room, he saw two men engaging in oral sex on each other. One of the men asked the reviewer if he’d care to participate for a price.
The reviewer said “no thanks”, and has not returned to that gym.
So, if you are interested in a space that hates cops, military members, veterans, sells illegal steroids, and offers gay sex for money, then this is the place for you.
If you’re normal, you should just avoid the place and stay healthy.

  27. Lars Taylor's Narcissism says:

Greetings comrades, it is I, Commissar Poodle here to give you another one of my great nuggets of elite schooling wisdom.

Before you blow what you intend to be the “Mother of all farts,” check your memory and be sure that you didn’t take any laxatives. And, for anything that you hold near and dear, don’t take laxatives if you don’t have diarrhea.

That oversight caused me great embarrassment today in what should’ve been a steal of a humor show.

  28. IDC SARC says:

Evidently, there isn’t a false narrative he won’t suck balls deep.

  29. RM3(SS) says:

Don’t like cops? Get in line. I’ve looked and looked and I just can’t find a fuck to give. Maybe tomorrow will be a better day.

  30. David says:

The police chief, mayor and majority of the police force are minority’s, so what are they uncomfortable about. Atlanta, Memphis, and Birmingham are predominately black. I don’t know about Nashville. Sounds like maybe something illegal is changing hands.

  31. CPT11A says:

The owner is a wife beater. Google “Jim Chambers Atlanta arrest” and you get to see his ugly ass mug, with enough of the neck tats to clearly identify him, but without that faggoty shit on his cheek.

  32. commissar says:

    Poor guy. He looks sad.

    Or constipated.

I can’t tell the difference. I probably have spectrum disorder.

  33. FatCircles0311 says:

He looks like a real winner. Neck and face tattoos, a hatred for military and law enforcement pretty much guarantees he’s a shitbag extreme with a record.

Asshole like that eventually get what is coming to them.

  34. Mark RM1 USN ret. says:

Wife beater AND a Social Justice Whiner. Ain’t he special. 😒

  35. Green Thumb says:

Maybe this turd could head out to LA and work out with “His Gayness, The Jayness” Big Gay Jay Kerwin.

  36. Nicki says:

A friend of mine did a little research, and guess what he found! The cock gobbling ass monkey is a filthy one percenter!

    • Skidmark says:

What club does he allegedly run with? You do realize that alot of veterans are “1%er’s”. I’m not saying I agree with this fella and his policy, but he can run his business however he likes, probably right into the ground I’d imagine. Back on topic though, calling all 1%er’s filthy is assuming something unknown. Not a 1%er myself, I do know many and most of them are great people, not exactly what you see on tv and read in the rags.

  37. Mike W. says:

    Criminals “fear” cops and military.
F*** this and the other pieces of excrement.
