Mosque attack in Egypt; 200 dead, 130 injured

Fox News reports that Islamist extremists attacked an Egyptian mosque today resulting in at least 200 killed and 130 injured, according to Egyptian news agencies;

The extremists launched an attack on the al-Rawdah mosque in the town of Bir al-Abd, some 25 miles from the North Sinai provincial capital of el-Arish, Egypt’s state news agency MENA reported. The attack appeared to be the latest by the area’s local Islamic State affiliate.

The security officers said the men opened fire on worshipers during prayers while driving in off-road vehicles. A Ministry of Health spokesman said the terrorists set off a bomb during the attack.

“They (the extremists) were shooting at people as they left the mosque,” a resident told Reuters.

“They were shooting at the ambulances too,” the resident continued.

Unarmed churchgoers seem to be the best targets. No one has claimed responsibility for the attacks yet.

From Newsweek;

The extremists reportedly approached and fired at the mosque from four “off-road” vehicles and blew up vehicles to block worshipers from exiting the mosque, the AP reported citing three police officers.

From The New York Times;

Islamist militants detonated explosives and sprayed gunfire at a crowded Sufi mosque near Egypt’s Sinai coast on Friday, killing at least 235 people and wounding 109 more, in one of the deadliest attacks on civilians in the country’s modern history.

The gunmen lingered at the scene even as emergency workers arrived to treat the injured, and opened fire on several ambulances, Ahmed el-Ansari, a senior government health official, said on state television.

An absolutely despicable act. Hope Egypt rounds ’em up soon for a quick trial and a good beheading.

  2. Ex-PH2 says:

    Worse than barbarians,they are.

May they rot slowly and feel every second of it.

They can’t get along with each other yet liberals want to keep importing them en masse to the USA…

  5. The Other Whitey says:

Why should we respect their places of worship if they don’t even respect their own?

  6. A Proud Infidel®™ says:

Here’s another about ISIS beheading 15 of their own, that’s gonna do wonders for morale!

As a Christian, I know this is reprehensible, but as a citizen of the Republic of the United States, I’m looking for a downside and not seeing any. Does this make me a bad person doomed to hell?

Religion of “peace” = religion of piss.

    • Sonny's Mom says:

Looks like it was a Sufi mosques, and Sufis are practically infidels, far as IS is concerned.

      • Deplorable B Woodman says:

ISIS considers anyone not them, to be infidels, to be exterminated with extreme prejudice.

        • 11B-Mailclerk says:

slight difference, but absolutely essential: “apostate”

To be an unbeliever is forbidden, but the observant Muslim is supposed to try to convert them first. (Dawa)

It is forbidden (Haram) to leave Islam. It is actually one of the worst transgressions in that belief system. Thus the apostate is beyond the pale, and to be killed as expeditiously as possible.

The various sects, especially the main Sunni and Shia sects, see -any- deviance as apostasy, not unbelief. The strict interpreters of those sects essentially justify homicidal psychosis.

This little difference explains the carnage, for example the Iran Iraq war, and Islamic State slaughtering every Muslim that isn’t them.

… the Arabic word for “submission” , of the slave to a master, is “Islam”. This explains everything. Not “salaam”, which is “peace”.

The news media seems to have done a poor job of explaining the dynamic of what happened in Egypt. According to reports, ISIS militants were responsible for carrying out an attack on a Sufi mosque, but there hasn’t been a motive presented.

ISIS apparently grew from the remnants of a minority Sunni faction in Iraq following the fall of Saddam. The Sufi faction of Islam is also predominately Sunni, and amounts to a mystic cult. Why would ISIS want to attack them?

People, even crazy-ass terrorists, tend to do things for a reason. What was hoped to be gained by killing those at a Sufi mosque in Egypt?

    • 26limabeans says:

Feeding frenzy. Kinda like group sex.

    • 11B-Mailclerk says:

      What was the goal? Terror.

    • Reddevil says:

What is to be gained? The same thing that AQIZ (Zarqawi’s organization and the father of ISIS) wanted when it bombed the Golden Mosque in Samraa: to deepen then exploit the differences between Sunni and Shi’a.

Review the history: Egypt, and the Sinai specifically, have a special significance in jihadi thought. Remember that while the Sinai is Egyptian territory, it was seized by th e Israelis in the ‘73 war, was returned as of the Camp David Accords, and is patrolled by the MFO.

More importantly, the Accords wer one of the justifications for the Sadat assasination, which imprisoned and shaped the thinking of two key jihadi figures: Al Rahman (the Blind Sheik),and Zawahiri, the spiritual founder of al Qaeda.

I’m sure the Egyptian media is asking the people of their fine and historic nation to just give up a few more of their plentiful individuals freedoms for a little more security. If so, this will never happen again.

It must have been those angry white male Christians that the Democrat Underground Facebook page says is the real terrorists.

  12. Jeff LPH 3, 63-66 says:

I don’t see the lame stream media and the liberals blaming the “ASSAULT” Rifles and explosives on this one. they put the blame on the peeps doing the dirty deed, so why do these shit heads put the blame on fire arms instead of the user when it happens over here.

  13. NoToMuslims says:

I don`t see a problem. When muslims kill other muslims, the rest of us end up with less muslims. That is always a good thing.
I say let`s hope they kill each other faster. Lets lock them all in a basement and give them weapons. Let them slaughter each other. As a normal, cizilized non-religious european I think it`s great when muslims kill each other. Less muslims = more peace and freedom for the rest of us.

  14. NoToMuslims says:

Those “unarmed churchgoers” you talk about are muslims. In other words, the people who will gladly rape your daughter, steal your property and then kill you. So be careful before you start crying about those `poor innocent victims`. Those victims are in reality your worst enemy. You should be very happy some of them are dead now.

    • Reddevil says:

Nonsense. What other religious groups are you happy to see slaughtered? Do the Mormons and JWs bother you to much with their incessant knocking? Anything but ‘normal’, I think.

Like it or not (and clearly you don’t) freedom of religion is a foundational value in the US- a notion introduced to American political thought, , ironically, by Baptists in Virginia.

  15. GDContractor says:

When will our stateside citizens learn from these events? Concepts such as soft targets, secondary ambush, situational awareness. FBI can only be so good. I hate to sound paranoid, and I hope I don’t come off that way, but I continue to be amazed by the vast majority who think that “assault rifle bans” and gun free zones will protect them while never learning anything from events beyond our borders and the nearest Starbucks service area.

  16. AW1Ed says:

    Death toll over 300 now.

“Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el Sisi has vowed to retaliate with brute force for the attack on Al Rawdah mosque that left 305 dead and 128 injured.”

  17. Docduracoat says:

You will note that Egypt has strict gun control
So the Sufi’s could not shoot back

  18. Ex-PH2 says:

These Daesh guys really know how to piss people off, don’t they?

What are they doing? Is this their version of ‘pull back, regroup, strike again’? Just askin’.
