Sergeant Kyle LaFlore murdered on leave

| January 7, 2018 | 82 Comments

KETV reports that 27-year-old Army Sergeant Kyle LaFlore was murdered while he was home on leave in Omaha, Nebraska from South Korea. His father says that he had also been deployed twice to Iraq and twice to Afghanistan.

Medics found the 27-year-old Army sergeant outside of Reign Lounge with a gunshot wound just before 2 Saturday morning and took him to an area hospital with CPR in progress.

Police said LeFlore was pronounced dead at Nebraska Medicine from his injuries.

LeFlore’s father, Kay LeFlore, told KETV NewsWatch 7 that he believes his son was walking to or from his car in the parking lot when somebody tried to rob him of his jewelry.

By all accounts, he was a good father and a good soldier;

Kay [Kyle’s father] says Kyle was eager to finally spend some time with his 5-year-old son, Kyle Junior, or KJ.

“He lived for his son, and when he got the chance to be here in time for Christmas to open packages and celebrate Christmas with his son, that was my best time I’ve ever had with him,” Kay said.

LeFlore was also an accomplished wrestler, competing and winning in the Eighth Army Combatives tournament over the summer in Seoul.

According to family, LeFlore was a dedicated father and husband, and was taking classes in hopes of one day working for the CIA or FBI.

“If you knew him, you loved him,” sister Kandy LeFlore said.

“dedicated father” on leave out at the bar @ 2am with jewelry…..

    Just sayin’

      • jonp says:

Not too bright, either. I am struggling to come up with anything positive that happens at 0200 outside of a ghetto bar…nah, can’t think of one.

        • 11B-Mailclerk says:

          Knowledge or assumption?

          • Grunt says:

I’ll say it. Assumption based on SGT LaFlore’s race and choice words from the article (bar, jewelry)

Assumption being, can’t take the hood out of the Soldier and there was some sort of thuggery involved, and that since he was *gasp* out at a bar at 0200, he must be complicit in his own death in one way or another.

jonp doubled down on this bit of very thinly veiled racism in a post towards the bottom of the page where he offered condolences “Although his actions may have been unwise and led to this”.

If SGT LaFlore was white, FC and jonp wouldn’t have posted what they did.

            Just sayin’

            • 11B-Mailclerk says:

Any bar at 2am us usually a gathering of Saints…. Not.

“Nothing good happens after 0100” or so I was told.

Non-drinker, thus was -very- much sought as designated driver drinking buddy.

Country western dives always seemed the most … combative. Most other flavors ran far more to posing than punching/worse.

            • Peter_Olinto says:

Grunt hit the nail on the head with his comment. It’s a shame that in 2018 some people, especially some veterans, can’t just see green rather than black, white, brown, etc. What makes this all worse is we are are discussing a dead soldier here and people are losing site of this; leave all of your BS views/prejudices aside and just say RIP.

            • jonp says:

No, actually it had nothing to do with his race. Why would you make that assumption. The “dedicated father” was outside of the Reign Lounge next to the river at 0200. How would you know what I was thinking you clown? Play that racist shit on your own time

              • Peter_Olinto says:

It’s not just him, dude. Read some more comments in regards to your buffonery.

              • Grunt says:

Jesus man. There’s always one. I give you grudging props for being a not just racist fuck but a glutton for punishment but seriously now, enough is enough.

You’ve made your point, being black and out at night makes you amenable to being killed. Much like a woman wearing a pretty dress deserves to be raped, I’m sure.

Anywho. Reading the rest of your responses here, your douchbaggery lights up the page like a fucking illum round. Keep it coming, we all need something to point and laugh at besides your cock.

    • 19K-STG says:

      What are you “just sayin'”?

A reported 4 tours in Iraq/Afghanistan, which means at LEAST 2 years separation from his family and probably more. That is hard on a marriage and he was still married to the mother of his child. Nothing in the linked report indicates he was doing anything wrong.

Who hasn’t come home on leave and gone out for a late night drink or two with hometown buddies?

      • SSG Kane says:

Well, I haven’t. But then I’m a caffeine swilling herbal teatotling Mormon boy, who’s picked up plenty of fellow soldiers who “gone out of a late night drink or two with buddies”.

And for all my self righteousness I’ve never begrudged them that, or resented the 2 AM phone calls.

Military shit ain’t easy and everyone has their own releases.

      • Yef says:

4 deployments and still just a SGT?

        Something ain’t right.

        Just sayin’

      • Yef says:

“LeFlore was also an accomplished wrestler, competing and winning in the Eighth Army Combatives tournament over the summer in Seoul.”

Something in the crafting of that sentence makes me think that he won some rounds in the Combatives Tournament, but didn’t win the Fat One.

And with all this still just a SGT E-5?

        • Bruno Stachel says:

Knock it off. You are bad-mouthing a murdered soldier.

No one here gives a shit about your disrespectful attempts to analyze his career progression.

        • Peter_Olinto says:

Oh Fey, silly Fey, or is Yef an acronym for Young Enlisted Female?

Here we find you once again attempting to belittle a fallen soldier. Hmm who was the last one…oh that’s right, Sgt LaDavid Johnson, the soldier who died in Niger. You kept insisting on the fact that he was a mechanic, and how that somehow had anything to do with the horrible events that occurred that night. Instead of just being a decent person and giving an RIP and condolences to his family, you just kept trying to dig for ultimately nothing. I’m trying to find the link between Set LeFlore and Sgt Johnson…hmmm. Fuck off, Fey, you have provided no value-add to any of the blogs comment sections.

Yef, do as you’re told, STOP huffing the floor wax and get back to cleaning your 1SG’s Office like a good little meathead.

    • Peter_Olinto says:

You read the post and that’s all that you could take from it?

      • RM3(SS) says:

Wow. God knows none of us have ever been in a bar “gasp” until 0200. Jewelry, like a ring and a watch, maybe a gold chain? Gotta be pimpin.
Think you missed the mark on this one FC0311.

    • BigJohn says:

      I’m just sayin’ “just sayin'”
      That’s getting old.

That is not a responsible statement to make regarding the passing of a veteran and Patriot. I AM SAYIN.

Four tours in hell and comes home to take a breather and gets whacked. There is so much I don’t understand about our existence. Maybe I’m not supposed to, but stuff like this just gets me. I doubt I’ll ever get a handle on ‘it’.

RIP, Brother. May you rest in eternal peace.

  21. jonp says:

Although his actions may have been unwise and led to this it he still did not deserve to have it happen.
Thank you for your service, SGT.

  22. NHSparky says:

    Rest easy, Sergeant.

And to the perp, hope your spending an eternity in hell is worth it.

  23. Veritas Omnia Vincit says:

Wow, the comments section was entertaining today, maybe not in a good way.

Being an ever older, increasingly surly curmudgeon it occurs to me that the anonymity of the internet often leads to a debasement of the simple exercise of decent manners.

Used to be a time when you thought someone who had a poor outcome and might have made better choices you kept that shit to yourself because, well because it’s fucking rude to tell a victim it’s their own fucking fault even if you don’t come out and say it that way.

Here’s a kid doing what over 99% of our fellow Americans can’t be bothered to do and he lives through four trips to places where folks want him dead but gets popped after some drinks with friends in his home town and some of his anonymous “brothers” think he brought it on himself.

If that’s not all kinds of fucked up, I don’t know what is.

Rest in peace young man, and may your family find some solace in knowing your strong spirit lives on in your boy.

  24. Mr. Pete says:

I keep re-reading this article, and it makes me madder then hell each time

    • OWB says:

Me, too. Then I read a few of the comments here and get even madder.

Very few people deserve to be killed. This young man certainly shows no signs at all of being anywhere near to that.

Why anyone here wishes to cause even a moment of pain to the family of Sergeant Kyle LaFlore if they happen upon our remarks is beyond my comprehension.

Once again, RIP, Sgt LaFlore. May your fmily find some peace knowing that most of us are with you on your journey as you try to make sense of this loss. Your Kyle may not be here, but he has a few millions brothers and sisters who are with you all the way.

  25. Jonn Lilyea says:

A man accused of fatally shooting an Army sergeant outside a bar stole his necklaces and later admitted to the shooting, a prosecutor said in court Tuesday.

Kyle LeFlore, 27, was shot in the chest at close range and died soon after being rushed to the hospital early Jan. 6. His funeral service and burial were held Tuesday.

Larry Goynes, 27, has been charged with first-degree murder and was ordered held without bail.

  26. Jonn Lilyea says:

Omaha Police have made a second arrest in the investigation of Kyle LeFlore’s death. Jason Devers faces a charge of First Degree Murder.

Devers, 35, was arrested and booked into Douglas County Corrections for First Degree Murder on Thursday, January 18th.
