Karl Dawson; phony war hero

| February 27, 2018 | 111 Comments

Our partners at Military Phonies share their work on this Karl Avery Dawson fellow. He claims that he’s a “highly decorated” Marine who was “missing in action” during a secret squirrel mission. That the Corps had already set aside a burial plot for him until he made it home and they took him to see the President, for some reason.

Then the Marine Corps bought him the uniform that he wore at his wedding;

Well, he was in the Marine Corps for nearly three years, but he was a 3072 Aviation Supply Man and he was discharged as a Private (E-1).

His only award is a marksmanship badge, no Silver Star or any of the other mountain of medals he is wearing.

  1. Mason says:

He was begging to be caught with his medals and ribbons displayed like that. What a mess.

  2. Cris says:

    The Marines have landed!

  3. LiRight says:

I can’t wait to forward this story to some of my USMC combat experienced friends.

What a complete and utter asshole!

  4. David says:

It looked like a reversed negative – thought that was obsolete in the digital age.

    • Martinjmpr says:

I was going to ask the same thing. Someone flipped the JPG over?

    • Stacy0311 says:

      Not reversed.
Douchenozzle made a half-assed attempt to wear his multitude of medals and ribbons correctly.

When wearing Dress Blue A, medals are worn on the left, ribbons for which no medal exists are worn over the right pocket.

Except this twatrocket is wearing medals on the left (completely out of order) and ribbons (medal and non medal ribbons) on the right.

Shooting badges are not worn with Dress Blue A and NEVER on the right side

It’s like he went in a surplus store and said “1 of everything please”

No idea what that weird beer can insignia is over all of his ribbons

  5. AW1Ed says:

Three year E-1 with a rifle pizza box. How could the Corps stand to lose such an outstanding Marine?

  6. Cris says:

Even the most amateur phony would know the silver star would be at the top, along with a couple others….and this idiot actually spent nearly 3 years in the Corps?

  7. Cris says:

He went in in 1980 so he’s about my age…

Yeah, we were both at Khe-Sanh in ’68 when we were 7….

  8. A Proud Infidel®™ says:

  9. lmn0351 says:

yep any Marine would wear medals and ribbons…..gotta love it

    • FuzeVT says:

The problem is that there are ribbons in his ribbon stack that represent medals. Oddly, when assigning awards to himself, some of the highest (Purple Heart and Silver Star) are not in his medal rack. Those are relegated to the LOWEST spot were his ribbons-for-which-there-are-no-corresponding-medals rack.

Other medals in his ribbon stack:
      Armed Forces Service Medal
      Marine Corps Good Conduct
      Humanitarian Service (AKA Purple Handjob)
      Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal
      Defense Distinguished Service Medal

Then, of course, we have to address the Navy Shooting badges.

      And the ubiquitous Fourragere.

And whatever the F— is above his ribbon rack.

And the fact that it looks like he has silver jump wings below his expert jump wings. I’m no recon dude, but I’m pretty sure that’s not right, unless, of course, that is actually an EOD badge and he is therefore totally legit.

Maybe if he had stayed in the Marine Corps longer then the socks I’m wearing he would know how to be a better faker.

He’ll be so proud that he made a spectacle of his lies in front of God and everyone on his wedding day.

What’s it like to have your husband lying to you in front of everyone you guys know on your wedding day, Mrs. Dawson?

      • USMCMSgt (Ret) says:

His ribbons and medals may look out of order of precedence when we look at them, but when he looks down at them on his uniform, they look right.

        It’s a matter of perspective, I guess.

        Fuck. This. Guy.

        • Cris says:

You’re right! Hilarious! What a maroon! It’s one thing to place one ribbon upside down, but the whole GD rack?

          • IDC SARC says:

kinda but not really since nothing is supposed to be below the shooting ribbons…which btw aren’t authorized on a USMC uniform even if earned as a previous USN veteran

as a Marine Reg Corpsman I could wear my USMC shooting badges or my Navy pew pew ribbons..one or the other but not both, but it’s a no-no for Marines…as is the Army Service ribbon, NCO pro development, etc.

      • Claw says:

        Upside down CAR.

        Nuff said.

      • Mick says:

‘And the fact that it looks like he has silver jump wings below his expert jump wings.’

In the photos posted over at the Military Phonies website linked above, those wings above his silver jump wings actually look like enlisted Naval Aircrewman wings.

Everyone knows that a 3072 Aviation Supply Clerk is just the same as being a Naval Aircrewman.

        Totally legit.

        • IDC SARC says:

looks more like the silver device is a wreath surrounding something rather than basic jump wings…just doesn’t look like jump wings to me, maybe one of the numerous air force badges currently available

      • Peter the Bubblehead says:

Correct me if I’m wrong, but on the medal side, isn’t he wearing what looks like the Defense Meritorious Service Medal BELOW the NDSM? (Of which it looks like he is wearing two side by side, but hard to tell with the photo quality.)

  10. Cris says:

I want to feel bad for the wife, but is she THAT naïve? But, then again, this happened a couple years back. Maybe she smartened up since then and left his ass.

  11. Combat Historian says:

He disappeared into the bowels of Hotel Street with a mahu and his outfit at Kaneohe declared him AWOL, so in his own interpretations that became “MIA on a secret classified mission”…

  12. Graybeard says:

Three years and this high-speed low-drag idiot discharges as E1?

He goes to stupid faster than DAB goes to lawn-dart.

  13. MCPO NYC USN Ret. says:

Two things that make this story completely legit:

    1. Uniform and medals delivered by UPS … not USPS … not FedEx … UPS I tell ya!

    2. Special War on Terrorism … aka “S What?”

  14. Atkron says:

The USMC version of an AK (Aviation Storekeeper).

    Semper Die dickhead.

  15. GDContractor says:

Here’s his manifesto, absent any punctuation. He’s expecting comments. Fire for effect.

    • GDContractor says:

And since I know 2/17 AirCav doesn’t do Facebook AND he has a fine appreciation for proper punctuation, I present the copy/paste text in full. You’re welcome.

    • MrBill says:

I got nothing out of that except he said something about Bad Company. At least he has decent taste in music.

    • thebesig says:

Here’s a translation of what Karl Dawson, phony War Veteran, said:

I want to talk about Tippmann and Associates. They’re located at 4410 New Haven Avenue, Fort Wayne, Indiana. This company allows an anonymous Vietnamese citizen to do the following:

      * Threaten people
      * Call women names
      * Cause damage
      * Creates a hostile work environment
      * Injures a highly decorated combat Marine

This company refuses to do anything about this. They ignore complaint paperwork submitted to them. In addition to this, Mark Bailey did the following:

      * Falsified documentation
      * Sent threats via email
      * Lied to the insurance company rather than pay a few dollars for medical bills and expenses.

In order to remedy this, we’re going to go to take the following actions to fight back:

      * We’re going to notify the media and get them involved. We’re going to contact Channel 15 and Channel 21.
      * We’re going to contact the GAO that handles government sales and purchases from Polar King Mix. My friends will tweet about this company.

Do not work for this company. They are very bad. They cheat employees. They bribe employees like me to make false statements. Those involved are going to end up in court. This includes Dan Kong Tram. He lives in a boat in Indiana.

Less I receive additional information about this company, I’m going to pass this information along to my friends. This company violates people’s rights every day. There is also an EEOC complaint, filed on them, as well as documentations.

She’s getting involved. There are plenty of photographs, and documentation, of all the illegal OSHA violations. We’ll see how much their Catholic Charities (?).

Besides, they’re allowing a Vietnamese, who’s not even the natural citizen, to violate the rights of combat Marine. He can’t sleep, how about that.

That’s amazing that a company, and many like it, stay in business. It’s also amazing how he could keep his job. The other employees know exactly what he’s doing.

I’m inside the company. Though they’ve already signed statements; they bribed 265 other people to sign the statements. These 265 people have no knowledge about this guy, and they do not have any experiences with him. They went and wrote “Franny” on the inside of the kitchen. We’re going to see how business goes for them now.

I’m accepting comments, except for any comments by Vince Tippmann Sr. He’s the owner of this company, along with Bill federspill. I know Mr. Tippmann knows about it now. I’m, but he refuses to do anything about it. So, I guess when it hits the paper, and it’s in the news, and it affects her business, maybe he’ll do the right thing.

As far as Dang Cong Tran, your days are numbered. Get a good lawyer. What you don’t already own is going to be stripped away from you.

Again, do not do business with Chapman and Associates’ Polar King Interstate Cold Storage. Their clients will be notified and the companies they do business with will be notified. They’re going to find out about everything that goes on there.

In the words of someone I used to know:

What the hell is that mess?

  16. Jeff LPH 3, 63-66 says:

My comment fits right into this post. As I posted in the past, I spent two years in the Army Guard which I did not talk about much since the Guard is State run, but after The Guard was deployed over seas into harms way, I felt different in that maybe I should wear an item of clothing which represented my Guard unit. I ordered a ball cap with ARNGUS CO B on top and 1ST BN 242 INF on the bottom. The Sales girl asks what I would like embroided in the middle so I said to put something in that represented the Army Infantry. She says I’ll get a rifle in the middle and I said it was ok. Hat comes in yesterday afternoon and when I open the package, an oh shit comes out of my mouth and every bad thing I did in my life time flashed before me. Turns out she had the Expert Infantry Badge (army) embroided on the cap. She did not tell me the name of the badge on the phone. The first thing I did was to razor off the stitching’s which took me over two hours and left a horizontal spot across the cap. I joined the Guard after the Navy and did not do any Army recruit training. Every thing was on the job training. Everything on my Navy caps are legit. I like to comment on this site and would not like to be the COMMENTEE on this site. Boy, I love to make a short story long. Since the hat is a custom job, no refund on it, so i’ll still wear it.

    • Daisy Cutter says:

We’ll have to get a ruling on this. Before you removed the emblem, did you take a bathroom selfie with the cap on?

      • Doc Savage says:

        Leather vest and doo rag?

        • Jeff LPH 3, 63-66 says:

Daisy Cutter; If I did that, And it got out, it would have broken my virginity about being a phony Navy or Arngus embellisher of un authorized emblems/badges etc. If the ruling is against yours truly, do I get 30 lashes with a Ronzoni wet noodle from the TAH crew.
          P.S. I love this.

          • Daisy Cutter says:

In full disclosure, I at one time wore an unearned Purple Heart on my Navy uniform. I probably had some others on there that I didn’t earn. It was perfectly legit and no disrespect intended.

Venture to guess as to the circumstances this was not in violation of the Stolen Valor Act?

            • Claw says:

Not Jeff, but I’ll venture a guess.

You thought it was the ribbon for the Navy “E” Ribbon.

              Am I close?

              • Daisy Cutter says:

It was a U.S. Navy sanctioned Disney movie filmed in San Diego called “Tiger Cruise” with Hayden Panettiere and Bill Pullman. They never used me in a shot with that uniform on, however. I was in dungarees on the flight deck, however, but you can’t see my face. There was a disco scene where I was dancing with Hayden but they ended up not using that scene either. I got nuttin’ but a story.

I know there have been debates about this, but I checked into it beforehand. This is an exception, that you are portraying a fictional character on film. People report incorrectly that you have to purposely screw up your uniform in a film so it is not authentic. Meaning incorrect placement, etc. This is not true.

                • rgr769 says:

I played an undecorated Union Army cavalryman in “Getysburg,” and part of my heroic scene where I saved a wounded LT made it to the big screen (about 2 seconds), but all I got was a TNT logo’d T-shirt that said, “background artist.”

              • Jeff LPH 3, 63-66 says:

Claw, speaking of the “E” Ribbon, I replaced my Navy Whites made out of a polyester/cotton mix I believe and had my Engineering E’S and Ships patches that I saved after I threw out my sea bag years ago. I noticed that the new E’S are Ribbons and my Red E was cotton that was sewn on the jumper sleeve. I had to go on a web site that dealt with awards, uniforms etc and was told that I could not switch over to the red E Ribbon which I was not authorized to wear since I was already out of the Navy for over 50 years so I had a retired neighbor who sewed on the ships patch MM3 crow and Red combat Engineering E patch.
Great job. I was authorized to wear the crow when I started my monthly Reserve meetings and nothing was said about the OKIE 3 ships patch even though I passed the MM3 test onboard but not able to wear it until My Reserve time. I passed the test just before I got out so hence the not wearing it onboard at that time. I hope no one rats me out on this one.

        • Jeff LPH 3, 63-66 says:

Doc Savage;, Nah, the only thing I was “Vest”ed in was my 401 K plan at work and the only doo is on some of my Doo Wopp T-shirts/sweat shirts that I wear. I did own a 2 cycle rice burner bike, not a Harley many years ago when I lived up in Long Beach LI, and used to ride it out to the Oak Beach Inn in Suffolk County NY. on the weekends before I retired.

  17. Jeff LPH 3, 63-66 says:

Looks like the Marine’s are getting into the TAH starting gate. Get out your Kelco class calculator slide rule (flats) and the TAH racing form and lets get to work.

    • Graybeard says:

In the 2018 TAH Phony Race we have six (6) prior entries under “Marine.”

I am classifying Karl Dawson under “Unearned Awards” (the fourth such entry) with points for having had real service, claiming Secret Squirrel, and Full Retard.

  18. MrFace says:

This guy is not just a valor thief but he completely nicked my credulity.

  19. HMCS(FMF) ret says:

I’m going to take a guess and say that KARL DAWSON is into seekrit skwirrl SQUEAKHOLE OPS at the local truckstop.

  20. Hondo says:

Does anyone know if the Defense Distinguished Service Medal has EVER been presented to a USMC SSgt?

Hell, I’d be surprised if anyone enlisted – except perhaps some of the CJCS SEAs – had ever received one.

  21. rgr1480 says:

So what is that over his right breast ribbon-rack? It looks like a badge with a crown: a Brit or Canadian regimental badge?

    And why????

  22. HMC Ret says:

You all seem to be having trouble understanding what the guy is saying in his story. I did, too, at first, but I figured it out. I’ll decipher it for you as follows:

    Da fuk?

  23. Usafvet509 says:

Clicked on GDContractor’s link, and sent him a little love. He instantly deleted it, looks like. However, I did point him this way. Hopefully, we’ll have a little fun….

  24. Skyjumper says:

C’mon now, this guy’s statement is extremely
coherent! Stop picking on in him! I read it from top to bottom and understood every word of it.

Course, (true story coming up) last week Monday I slipped on ice in the driveway, flew backwards and landed with the back of my head on the bottom deck step. Almost but not quite became unconscious; managed to crawl back into the house and eventually found my way to the hospital. After five hours or so after being cat-scanned, given a neck brace, pampered by good looking nurses and prescription-ed a wad of drugs, I was eventually sent home. Still not right in the head (some of my friends say I never was in the first place) but yeah, this guy makes perfect sense. 😉

    Lying Arschloch!!

  25. Just An Old Dog says:

Noted that he was discharged about 60 days short of what should have been his actual EAS as a Private from Sub-Unit at Camp Pendelton.
Marines aren’t discharged overseas for any reason. Those that are within a certain amount of days of EAS are sent to Sub Units and processed, also those who were given punitive discharges are treated the same.
    Guy is as shit bag.

  26. Bill M says:
