Navy Lt. Christopher Carey Short killed in crash

| June 25, 2018

Stars & Stripes reports that Navy Lt. Christopher Carey Short was killed in a crash of an A-29 Super Tucano light-attack aircraft Friday. Lieutenant Short was a native of Canandaigua, New York.

Short had been participating in the Air Force’s Light Attack Experiment testing the capabilities of the A-29 and the AT-6B Wolverine.

The statement announcing his death did not mention the other crewmember who, according to the Air Force, suffered minor injuries and was airlifted to a local hospital.

Red Rio Bombing Range is the U.S. military’s largest open-air test range at 196,000 acres and part of the Army’s White Sands Missile Range, about 65 miles north of Holloman.

The A29 is a crop duster with guns and bombs attached and built in Brazil.

Used to pretty good effect in the Afghan Air Force

So what are we experimenting with?

    • wut says:

where and when were A-29s used for “crop dusting?”

      • Tallywhagger says:

The “crop” is frequently ISIS or one of the Islamic hybrids. As for being dusted? Haha, youtube is replete with lively action reports!

    • Kilo 3/7 says:

Neither the Super Tucano nor the Wolverine were ever crop dusters…. you are thinking of the Air Tractor entry which was eliminated from consideration a few years back.

Always sad to loose one. For some reason this reminded me of the loss of one of my former AFROTC students. Midair down in Mississippi. He was a T-38 flight instructor. It can be a dangerous business.

    Rest in Peace, Lt Short.
