Douglas Winn; phony combat veteran

| July 15, 2018

Our partners at Military Phonies share their work on this Douglas Winn fellow who claimed in court documents that he was an Iraq War veteran and that he suffered from PTSD. He also claimed an award of the Bronze Star Medal.

At the time he was facing a bunch of charges for being a fairly bad dude;

The following are criminal charges against Douglas Ray Winn in Oklahoma. Some are ongoing in the courts and related to his military claims in court for leniency, and one (i.e. cultivation of controlled substance) were dismissed.

CF-2016-00250 – Assault & Battery with a Dangerous Weapon
CF-2016-00250 – Domestic Abuse – Assault & Battery
CF-2016-00248 – Domestic Abuse – Assault & Battery
CF-2016-00248 – Feloniously Pointing Firearm
CF-2016-00248 – Plan/Attempt/Conspire to Perform Act of Violence
CM-2012-00054 – Possession of CDS (Controlled Dangerous Substance)
CF-2011-00201 – Cultivation of Controlled Substance (Felony-Dismissed)

Anyway the Army remembers his enlistment a bit differently than Douglas;

It doesn’t look like he deployed. He was assigned to the 208th Signal Company, but they deployed to Iraq and returned before he even enlisted. His next assignment was to an OSUT Company of the 2/81st Armor at Fort Knox, Kentucky – a training unit that didn’t deploy to the war against terror.

The military records do not support Douglas Ray Winn’s claim of several things:

No designation of “Spec Ops” identified in his records.
No assignments overseas. No medals to support overseas assignments/deployments.
Nothing to support the claim that he fought in the Iraq War.
No Bronze Star Medal.
If Douglas Winn has PTSD, it doesn’t appear that he has it from experiencing the Iraq War directly.
Trained as Nuclear/Biological/Chemical NCO and a Chemical Ops Sgt vs. a “Spec Ops Sgt” as he claimed. Nothing wrong with being an NBC / Chemical Warfare specialist, which is an admirable profession – just wasn’t in Spec Ops.
He could have been retired after five years, but it would have been a medical retirement.

    Jailhouse cum dumpster.

    • CPT11A says:

Probably, but in a just world, “domestic abuse- assault and battery” would make him a bullet dumpster.

  2. Jeff LPH 3, 63-66 says:

I wonder if he’s related to base ball player Early Winn. What happened, no Phony Seals today?

  3. 2banana says:

He does have the NDSM and an ARCOM.

    Same thing – right?

  4. Roh-Dog says:

Was this dude 45 when he first enlisted?
Quit Army-ing because of Recruiting School, maybe not a total idiot.

    • Roh-Dog says:

Ok, Military Phonies has his age as 41 as of July 2018.
Douglas Winn has his personal Facebook high school graduation as 1978.
      Crossed wires here?

  5. Ex-PH2 says:

What a charming fellow! I’ll bet he’s a wonderful companion on fondue date night!

  6. SGT Fon says:

seems he is free on bond now. I don’t have a fax machine and the DA’s office was not kind enough to provide an email, but anyone that feels like faxing them this info, here is the prosecuting DA’s info and a link to the case details:

All they need to do is ask this clown for his DD 214. Or request that from NPRC. Making them aware of something should start the ball rolling.. Lying to the court is a whole new ball of wax.. More trouble awaits this clown.

Douglas Winn, phony Iraq War Veteran, needs to realize that he won’t win by lying about his service in the age of the Internet and FOIA. 🙄

      The above document should’ve read:

COMES NOW, Douglas Winn, Army Service Ribbon Veteran…

    • 5JC says:

Be a damn shame if he went to prison over perjury charges as well. Judges tend to get really pissed off when you swear to tell the truth and instead tell a bunch of lies.

“If Douglas Winn has PTSD, it doesn’t appear that he has it from experiencing the Iraq War directly”

    Indirect PTSD?

  9. Non Cedo Ferio says:

I’ve met him. 208th was our BDE common unit. I helped them get ready for our deployment in 03. I don’t remember seeing him for the first time until about a year after we got back. I don’t recall him being a bad Soldier or getting into any trouble while at 108th. I hate that he’s made such terrible life choices and claiming he’s a combat vet to boot.

  10. Non Cedo Ferio says:

Your right about him not joining up before we deployed our brigade rolled out in the first 2 weeks of Feb 03.

  11. RM3(SS) says:

With those charges we should just revoke the good conduct medal. What is it in relationships that some guys think “she doesn’t want me around, if I beat her ass and point a gun at her she’ll change her mind”.

    • Ex-PH2 says:

It’s because their brains are either in their pants or they sit on them, if they have any at all.

My Military Law class was taught by Col. Gifford (the attorney representing him) and I got to know him quite well during my law school years…find it hard to believe that he would just accept Winn at his word and not do his due diligence, but you never know what Winn presented to him. I find it pretty shocking considering Col. Gifford’s own military background. Just feels really off to me. Weird.

    • Skippy says:

If my memory serves me right

  13. Jarhead says:

I believe you missed one of the pending charges against him; “Felonious Bullshitting, 3rd degree” Say, wasn’t this asshat kin to Ed Wynn, “The Perfect Fool”? Uncle Ed, BTW as bright as he was originally turned down the leading role in the Wizard of Oz, thinking it was beneath him. So how many plea deals have this idiot turned down?

  14. Jarhead says:

Also unable to find correct email address for the Creek County D A’s office. However, this should work. Send email to County Sheriff Bowling and ask him to forward it on to the District Attorney. Google the following: When you get on web site, click on “Contact Us”. You are now ready to go. Ask Sheriff Bowling to please forward email with your own comments to County District Attorney.

  15. Wilted Willy says:

Can someone please tell me how my pos brother David “Doc” Shrum can get a 100% disability from the PTSD while making false teeth? And he has been pulling this scam for over 20 years! Dear God is there no justice in this world??? I bet he claimed his false Purple Heart because he didn’t use enough novacane and some asshole bit his finger!

  16. Green Thumb says:

I wonder if All-Points Logistics has reached out to him yet? This case seems right up Lori Benton’s alley.
