Valley mom holds suspect at gunpoint, man arrested after injuring officers and K-9

By: Zach Crenshaw
TEMPE, AZ — One mother said her quick thinking and nearby pistol helped protect herself and her kids during a home invasion.

The situation ended with an injured police K-9, two hurt Tempe police officers and a mother who forced the suspect out of her apartment at gunpoint.

“It was either me or him, and I had two kids. There was no way I was going to let them get hurt,” the mother said.

Anthony Chambers is now charged with two counts of aggravated assault on an officer, three counts of kidnapping, harming a service animal, and five other felonies.

The police report says it all began around 7 p.m. on Super Bowl Sunday.

Tulsa jury acquits man in Valentine’s Day murder trial; defense attorney argued killing was in self-defense

By Samantha Vicent
A jury on Friday acquitted a man of first-degree murder in a Valentine’s Day 2017 shooting in south Tulsa that the man and his attorney argued was self-defense.

William Wolverton Bridges, 46, faced the charge in connection with the death of his friend, Christopher Coffelt, based at least in part on claims he provided inconsistent accounts of what happened leading up to the shooting.

The jury, which did not receive any lesser-included offense instructions, took about 3½ hours before returning a not-guilty verdict. Bridges was out of custody on bond throughout his trial.

Defense attorney Shannon McMurray argued her client feared for his safety because Coffelt “lunged” at Bridges after taking methamphetamine intravenously in Bridges’ bathroom.

A medical examiner’s report indicated Coffelt was shot four times, including once in the neck, and had methamphetamine in his system at a level consistent with recent use.

But Assistant District Attorney Kevin Gray contended Bridges’ actions weren’t justifiable because Coffelt, despite being intoxicated, had no weapon in his hand when he was shot.

Pittsburgh police: Resident, suspect in Knoxville home invasion shot; suspect critical

Pittsburgh police are investigating an alleged home invasion in the Knoxville neighborhood in which two people were shot Friday night.

Soon after arriving at the 300 block of Moore Avenue about 7 p.m., police found “multiple shell casings and a male resident with a gunshot wound to the hand,” spokesman Chris Togneri said.

He said that man was taken to a hospital in stable condition.

During the investigation, police discovered that a resident shot at the alleged home invader.

That man was hit by gunfire multiple times.

The wounded suspect fled on foot to a residence on the 200 block of Moore Avenue. An ambulance transported that man to a hospital in critical condition, Togneri said.

Starting the work-week, Delta Whiskies and Whiskettes, we have a perfectly acceptable tally of 1 / 2 / 0, with one achieving ambient temperature, two hoping Blue Cross will cover additional orifices caused by rapid lead injection, and again none in the wind. Too cold outside, I suppose.

Mama Bear should have shot the dindu FIRST, then called the cops. We’ll see this one again. Hope the puppy dog is OK.

Tulsa; coulda went either way. Lesson being, if there is only one to tell the story, that’s the only story the jury will hear.

Pittsburg: “Knoxville used to be a nice neighborhood until the liberals built the projects, and the residents destroyed it.” From the comments of the locals. I’m shocked I tell you, I’m shocked. FIRST I’ve ever heard of such.

Maybe the wounds will turn gangrenous. Or a nice super bug staph infection.
