Mark Jerome; Phony Sniper, Phony Combat Wounded, Phony Beirut Veteran

| March 28, 2019 | 120 Comments

Mark Paul Jerome comes to us from Stony Creek, New York. Mark is 55 years old as of March 2019.

Mark claims to have been a Sergeant of Marines (E-5) as well as a Scout Sniper (MOS 8541).

Sgt Mark Jerome – Scout Sniper 8541

Mark claims on his Facebook page that he served from 1982 – 1989, and held the MOS’s of 0311 (Rifleman), 0331 (Machine Gunner) and 8541 (Scout Sniper).

Mark Jerome – Facebook Profile

Mark served in the U.S. Marine Corps and by the judge of the bling he wears, he is damn proud of that.

Here he displays a Purple Heart, along with the label “COMBAT WOUNDED.”

In a picture he used as his Facebook profile photo for a while, he also suggests he was awarded the Purple Heart.

And in the following photo he wears a Purple Heart medal on his ball cap.

This photo shows the same ball cap and Purple Heart medal, but also shows the Sgt insignia.

In these photos of his jacket, you can see the patches for 0311, 0331 and 8541.

BEIRUT, LEBANON

Then there is the matter of Beirut, Lebanon. If Jerome was wounded between 1982 and 1989 as he claimed, there were only a few conflicts that this could happen to him — Beirut, Lebanon 1982-1984, Operation Urgent Fury – Invasion of Grenada in 1983 and Operation Just Cause – Invasion of Panama in Dec 1989.

At one point, Mark was a member of the Beirut Veterans of America (BVA) Facebook group.

Mark Jerome’s Facebook post in the BVA group.

He was asked a few questions in PMs.

MNPF probably meant Multi-National Peacekeeping Force but the correct acronym is MNF for Multi-National Force in Lebanon.

An old post had a friend claim that Mark Jerome was there during the Marine Barracks bombing in Beirut on 23 Oct 1983. Mark never corrected him and posted in the same thread.

In this post, Jerome suggests he is on the ground in Beirut calling in a fire mission from the USS New Jersey, a ship which did fire shells into Beirut.

He was asked about his service in Beirut as well as his Purple Heart.

At this point – Mark Jerome blocked the person asking the questions. It sounds like it was too painful for Mark to talk about.

ACTIONS CONDUCTED BY MILITARY PHONIES

A Purple Heart database for all wounded in Beirut was checked – Mark Jerome’s name was not on it.

Mark Paul Jerome’s military records were ordered through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request.

USMC CAR / HSM DATABASE

A search of the USMC Combat Action Ribbon (CAR) and Humanitarian Service Ribbon (HSM) database came back with a “NO RECORD” response.

It must be noted, however, that this database has been known to not be 100% inclusive so nothing can be concluded from a negative result.

Mark Jerome’s photo was not included in the group photo for STA 1/8.

DISCUSSION and SUMMARY

SUMMARY SHEET

Mark Jerome’s summary sheet shows just under four years of active duty. He was discharged from the USMC as a Lance Corporal (E-3). He was not a Sergeant (E-5) as he claimed.

The summary sheet shows that he went on deployments due to Sea Service Deployment Ribbons. We know that one was in Japan.

The summary sheet does not show a Purple Heart as he had claimed.

This is in violation of the Stolen Valor Act.

Nothing in his military records support Jerome’s claim of training to be a Scout Sniper or serving with any STA units.

Nothing in his military records support his claim of serving in Beirut.

STOLEN VALOR

The official military records for Mark Jerome do not support many of his claims – many of which are in violation of the Stolen Valor Act.

If these claims were leveraged by Mark for something of value over the years, including monetary gain, work positions, or advertising sniper or wounded warrior to further a business, Mark may be in violation of the Stolen Valor Act. Individual state laws may apply as well.

The Bombing happened just after I started my senior year of hs. I had been approached by all the recruiters in my junior year but wasn’t sure which to go to. But Between Grenada and the bombing that terrible October I decided on the Corps. The tragedy was so horrific I just bawled , not here’s what I don’t get , first off I don’t like SV in any form but I can more easily understand why a faker would want to fake heroism or saying they served when they didn’t. I think it’s a product of low self esteem and a desire to deceive. , what I don’t get is the desire to say you were a part of, or associated with, a tragic event , be it Beirut , 911 or the Orlando massacre or even. to lie and say they have PTSD. Which I deal with and wouldn’t wish it on anyone. It blows my mind when I hear these “ I survived” stories it doesn’t make sense to me

    • Martinjmpr says:

what I don’t get is the desire to say you were a part of, or associated with, a tragic event , be it Beirut , 911 or the Orlando massacre or even. to lie and say they have PTSD

It’s the same thing with fake POW claims. Why in God’s name would anybody pretend to have been a POW?

I think the answer is that these people are sad sack losers who see themselves primarily as “victims.”

Most of us “normals” understand that life isn’t always fair and sometimes you get dealt a bad hand. We do what we can and we get on with our lives.

But people like Jerome have completely absorbed the “victim mentality.” They see themselves as broken, hurt people. Instead of just dealing with their pain and disappointment like the rest of us, they wallow in it, they rub it all over their faces, they roll around in it and say “LOOK AT ME! I’M A VICTIM! PITY ME! WAAAH!”

Making up fake stories about PTSD or being a POW gives legitimacy and lends a heroic component to their victim-hood.

The short answer as to “why do they do it” is simple: Because it gives them what they so desperately crave: Attention, pity, unearned admiration, and in many cases, it gives them a “heroic” way to excuse their bad behavior.

      • PTBH says:

While I am not suggesting this is the case with Mark Jerome, some people that have been associated with the Marine Barracks bombing have been awarded millions of dollars even though they do not appear to have been in the Marine Barracks building that was blown up.

        Example: John Wayne Nash
        https://thisainthell.us/blog/?p=69041

Just saying – there could be a financial, as well as a morbid incentive.

      • Non Cedo Ferio says:

Great way to explain it, thanks. Ya know we all have our crosses to bear but I know that for us” normals” the cross is real. I’m wondering if some of these folks actually start believing their own lies to the point of experiencing “ trauma” in the first place def most want to play the victim card for sympathy it’s really messed up. I guess why maybe it’s bothering and confusing to me is I just saw the first two episodes of “ The Act “ on Hulu. It’s about the gypsy rose Blanchard true story of her mom physically and mentally torturing her by passing her off a severely disabled person to gain money and attention. So strange the way some ppls minds work. Just like those guys I see at VA with the PTSD ball caps. Smh so messed up

      • HMC Ret says:

Jerome here is typical of so many who consider themselves a professional victim. someone who would have rose to the occasion if only given a chance to do so. Some have self loathing b/c they weren’t involved in the fray but desperately wish they had been. Punch line … IMO they are a failure but covet hero status.

I knew he was bogus from the get-go. No obvious POW/MIA Patch, no Harley, no service (PTSD) mutt, etc. Now he’s got some ‘splaining to do. Best for him to confess his bullshittery and disappear, but …

It’s hard to believe he would overlook the POW Patch, what with his love of patches. Dumbass

  2. 3/10/MED/b says:

For someone who doesn’t want to talk about it, he sure looks proud in all those Purple Heart pictures.
I was Army, but isn’t the group of Marines/Sailors there at the time of the bombing/aftermath a fairly small community?
He does have the mandatory vest with patches.
    Dumbass.
    The internet is forever.

    What? No dog?

Here’s a Google hit for you Mark Paul Jerome…Enjoy you new found innerwebz fame!

Mark Paul Jerome (what’s up with having 3 FIRST names?) is a lying embellishing piece of excrement that should have been scrapped off the shoes before being allowed in. You possibly had honorable service in the Marine Corps when many did not serve, but you had to become a lying embellishing asshole who placed a rancid cherry on top of the sh^t sundae you made of your life. May the Souls of all Warrior Marines that served honorably gnaw upon your lying embellishing piece of sh^t self for all eternity.

      ESAD Mo Fo!!!

    • Just An Old Dog says:

I was Army, but isn’t the group of Marines/Sailors there at the time of the bombing/aftermath a fairly small community?

Yes, pretty small. It was Basically a Battalion of Infantry with supporting units that increased the number of boots on the ground to about 1500 or so tops.

    • DinoSquid says:

Between the USMC, USN, American civilians and the French, and its 36 years later, yes I would think the numbers would be rather small.

  3. Outcast says:

And now it appears yet another one joins the Stolen Valor Brigade. Seems they almost have enough to form their own Military or group, even better yet would be prison for Stolen Valor inmates. They try so hard and yet little recognition. What can I say, oh, next candidate soon.

  4. Daisy Cutter says:

“I don’t want to be reminded or talk about it at all”

I was at a VA hospital yesterday and didn’t see even close to the amount of bling this poser alone is sporting. Jerome earned the EGA, was a Rifleman, and honorably served a hitch. Should’ve been proud of what he did accomplish. Now internet infamy will record his lies and deceit for posterity.

    • A Proud Infidel®™ says:

I’ve yet to see anyone sporting that amount of bling anytime any time I visit the VA. I say the more bling they sport, the more full of shit they’re likely to be!

Yes, I agree. If the bling blinds you then it is likely not earned.

      • HMC Ret says:

Roger that. The more they have, the less likely they actually earned it. Sometimes I know I am wrong. It’s funny to eavesdrop convo between/among veterans. I’ve discovered that the one with a dozen patches, leather vest, (possibly) bogus service mutt etc. will often just STFU when actual specifics are called for to defend their claims. The less they talk from the beginning, the more of a real deal I consider them to be.

    • FatCircles0311 says:

Picking up as an 0311 can be very difficult because it’s the highest populated MOS in the Corps. Depending on what the cutting score is you can be shit hot and not meet it. For the 03xx MOS’s such as 0351 the cutting score while I was in was insane essentially meaning your ass wasn’t getting close to picking up E4 with only 4 years in. It’s weird how they do it and not picking up E4 in the infantry within 4 years doesn’t mean you were a shitbag. You also have commands that fuck with marines trying to prevent them from being promoted. I saw it happen to one and had it done to me. Some NCO never turned in all of the MCI’s a marine did on purpose saying he did. How do we know? Well when his ass transferred out of the unit they were all stashed away in his barracks room to be found. I had some faggot in the company officer just flat out not submit my PFT scores before. Zero accountability for it either.

      • FatCircles0311 says:

And you know what I was in a NCO billet with my own team as a lance coolie above actual corporals too so rank isn’t everything. Rank is a pay grade, billet is everything.

    • Guard Bum says:

E4 in the Army is basically automatic, making Cpl in the Marine Corps is a lot tougher and as FatCircles 0311 said, the 03 MOS is usually the hardest. I was an 0351 and made Sgt in just under 4 years in 1981 but it was almost a fluke because I benefited from an unusual drop in the cutting score that got me promoted first time eligible.

Most Marines of that era did 4 years and got out as Lance Corporals and it was not a reflection of poor service.

    • SgtM says:

Grunts promote veeeerrryyyy slowly in the Corps. E3 is usually the EAS rank for a 4 year grunt 03.

  16. Ex-PH2 says:

Why is it that I have this hankering to call these scout sniper claimants “snout skippers”?

  17. FatCircles0311 says:

He could have been a machine gunner if he was in a line company. We had a lot of marines do weapons platoon that were infantry school 0311’s simply because they needed bodies to fill those billets. It wasn’t uncommon for marines to get sent from their platoon to weapons. They wouldn’t send them back to infantry school to formally get the MOS but they were whatever the company billeted them as for all purposes. I was billeted as a 5811 for several months but didn’t go to the school to officially earn the MOS although for a period of time in my paperwork for that command my MOS was listed as 5811. There obviously is no record of that on my DD214 under formal education though.

The rest sounds bullshit though. Many STA occupy billets they didn’t get formal schooling for as well or pass. Few get their hog’s tooth and pass the scout snipers course but the corps needs bodies filling slots in the platoon. He’d have H&S in his unit though for that and he doesn’t.

    What a shitbag.

I had a dorm and office mate “Marty” who was a regular down on B.C. (Business Center = “Bring Cash”) Street at the clubs.
If I remember you could get two like 8 oz Rum and Cokes for like $4, or whatever your drink of choice was, cheap rail Japanese alcohol.

Well the Marines (yeah YOU GUYS) came into town from being up north on the island for 6 (week?) jungle training. We always got the safety brief when the Marines were going to invade.

Well a few of us, including Marty went down to BC street to bring a “FNG” to the banana show.

We found a joint where Marty knew all the girls. There were a couple of 4 top tables with Marines at them. We sat down and ordered drinks. The FNG was sitting there watching the “show”, mouth agape. I loved doing this. I remember being the FNG with my mouth agape and after the 2nd or 3rd time, it was like, Meh.
So Marty already pretty tipsy goes up to closest table of Marines and yells at the, HEY FUCKERS, IF YOU EACH BUY ME A DRINK, I’LL EAT THE BANANA!!!!

So, remember for like $4 you get double drinks so this was like 8 drinks for good ole Marty. The Marines were all like “Yeah ok buddy, you won’t do it, and slapped like $15 on the table.
Ole Marty stood up and walked up to the stage, limbo’d, leaning over backwards and laid back on the stage.
The “young lady” doing the show wiggle up, over top of Marty’s open mouth and dropped off a chunk banana “POP”, right in Marty’s pie hole.

Marty stood up and screamed like a WOOOOOOPPP! or something like that and sauntered over to the Marine’s table chewing as he went. He grabbed the Marines money and walked off.

I looked over ant the Jungle Trained, hardened Marines and a couple were making YOU’RE A FREAK and OMG GROSS…PSYCHO AIR FORCE GUY!!, but the immediate response was to have horrified and mouth agape faces 10 time worse then the FNG we took down there in the first place.

I just sat there and laughed my ass off, tears running down my face, because, you see, I’d seen this a number of times and it *never* failed to amuse and horrify.
Marty *was* either stupid, fearless, or just didn’t give a shit and enjoyed freaking people out.

        *End Cool Story Bro*

During my days as a Trucker I always heard stories about the Donkey show at “Boys Town” just South of the Border in Nuevo Laredo Mexico, they even had a van pull up to the Pilot Truck Stop to take customers! I didn’t partake because there was NO WAY I was going to let my Gringo ass go into a Border Town after dark without a bunch of real friends I knew I could count on.

        • HMC Ret says:

Saw the ‘shows’ in TJ but never went w/o a bunch of guys. Also the shows in Kin Ville (Hansen). Felt safer there but still went with a bunch of guys. Found the shows fairly gross after seeing for a few times. Never heard of a Llama or watermelon show and don’t even want to think about it.

Schwab for a UDP pre-95. No women, Henoko Liberty Restrictions and the oldest USO on the planet.

18 months there, 18th Transportation at Kadena 84-86.

      Ping Pong balls
Pepsi Bottle with coins stacked on it
      Cigarettes.
I’ll reply to FatCircles0311 as well.

      • USMCMSgt (Ret) says:

I suspect the same lady that was performing that “trick” in 84-86 is still there.

IIRC, someone told me she had been there for years. The same lady was performing the “show” in 1989-90 when I was on Hansen, and the same one when I was on a UDP two years later.

1989, first leave after I got qualified, did a MAC flight to PI via Oki.

Nice little warmup, if I may say.

  20. Forest Green says:

Hate to pick nits but; my combat history page lists participation in the Beirut cluster as “Multi-National peace keeping force” in all three entries for me. Since those were the days of typewriters and multiple clerks trying to get it all done after the fact, I’m sure there are plenty of variations.

BVA refers to it as Multi-National Peacekeeping Force.

Oh, and this guy is still an asshole.

  21. HMCS(FMF) ret says:

Mark Paul Jerome DORKED THE SQUEAKHOLE by claiming to be a Beirut veteran… and I’m hoping that he catches HELL for it.

As for his dress up escapades, Mark Paul Jerome is just showing the world what he wears when he goes to Brucies Bath house (Entrance in the Rear) to work as a Junior Apprentice Towel Fluffer.

    Fucking Assclown…

    Two words:

    1. Vest
    2. Patches

    That is all.

    MCPO OUT!

    • A Proud Infidel®™ says:

You’re right. NO Do-rag, no dog(Thank God) and NO Harley!

I’m willing to bet that Mark Paul Jerome might have been a mediocre member of the USMC, a problem child that ran around the barracks screaming and bragging about his DD214 and separation when his time came, six months later was wearing EVERY kind of USMC shirt, hat and bling less than six months later and still does while spinning his web of bullshit!

  23. Jay says:

Fucking TURD. You served with HONOR in a time when your country was hurting. You served in a very coveted MOS (0311 RIFLEMAN). You didn’t step on your dick (well, if you did you didn’t get CAUGHT) as evidenced by your good cookie. You saw the WORLD as evidenced by your SSDR (x2). You did your 4 years. And you now go and piss it ALL away because as good as all of that was, IT WASN’T GOOD ENOUGH. EAT A DICK, MARK PAUL JEROME. People have DIED to earn that medal you so nonchalantly sport on your little cap. “I don’t want to talk about it”. Yeah, you don’t want to talk about it because you don’t want to have to remember which story you told, you piece of shit.

  24. 26Limabeans says:

So who’s grave is he pissing on in the photo?
Seems he has a habit of that.

  25. OldManchu says:

This is why I wear nothing with any military reference. I don’t mind when others do, I just want to make sure I don’t look like this sack of balls.

  26. Dave Hardin says:

At one point the shitbird had this picture on his FB page.

But that is a picture of Steve Russell and his NCO’s.

From the TOW section in Beirut…

  27. Mason says:

Wears USMC hat adorned with pins, obnoxiously over the top USMC jersey, puts 24 pieces of flair on his vest, posts to social media constantly about his service and the horrors he saw. I’ll go out on a limb that he’s got veteran plates with a USMC license plate frame and 40-60 stickers all over the truck.

Gets asked about his time in the Corps: “I can’t talk about it, it’s too painful.”

  28. David says:

Re a comment above that he ‘served when the country was hurting’ mid 80s was the time of Graham Rudman and Fit to Fight when cost cutting was the rule of the day.

    • Jay says:

David: That was me. The fact this dude came in THREE DAYS after Beirut is what I meant. I was but a sprout living in Jax NC area when it happened. It was a DARK TIME here.

  29. 5JC says:

One of these days I’m going to get me a vest to have a dog on motorcycle. The dog will wear everything and I’ll claim that he was a veteran of the Beirut.

  30. Are BLT Marine machine gunners still called gun bunnies.

  31. 100E says:

Ahhh! The ubiquitous ‘black vest’. No poser is fully dressed without it. I even see BS vests in the VA, complete with a bunch of sewn on crap that doesn’t go together. They usually have their ‘stress dog’ with them.

  32. Kenneth Taylor says:

I can’t understand why a man with a good service record would step out side and piss on it like this drongo has done.

  33. HMC Ret says:

Hey, Jerome, you do know you are officially screwed don’t you? I wanted to verify that for you if there was any question about it. Welcome to your ‘Google Is Forever’ fame. Dunce …

“If these claims were leveraged by Mark for something of value over the years, including monetary gain, work positions, or advertising sniper or wounded warrior to further a business, Mark may be in violation of the Stolen Valor Act. Individual state laws may apply as well.”
Of course these people always have a money motive.

  35. Outcast says:

Maybe some day someone will make sense as to all these Stolen Valor types as they never carry any of the load of the ones that survived. Where is the valor of a War, 1 year in land far away from family, around 14,000 names placed on a wall including 2 H/S classmates, 1 H/S classmate almost completely disabled, many dead from A/O, 1 pilot captured and POW for close to 7 years, mortar round landing behind you during 1 of 7 attacks on base. Years wondering why them and not me, or was there something I could have done to saved more lives. Where is the Valor, more like burden of ones disgrace due to no answers for questions in ones mind.
